SERIOUSLY! Ummm yeah if you open your own cam site, you'll probably make LESS than a 35% profit after advertising ($$$ + time), chargebacks (big reason why girls quit their paysites), bandwidth/streaming costs, and the money it takes for initial start up.

The fact that girls want to complain that they are only getting paid 35% with no chargebacks when there is an option to get paid 75% with a little work & business sense, is ridiculous. If you want to be lazy or you don't like their model, don't work for them. Its their site, not yours.

I love SM for this reason. Any of us can be making 75% if we bring in the customer through the link they provide us. This is a HUGE! Invest your time & energy into marketing & get a big pay raise.

I do NOT get models complaining about the 35% cut at all. When you can be making 75%/20% for doing your own marketing. If your to lazy to do marketing as apart of your job, then stop complaining.

75% is a major number, was totally excited when I signed onto SM. Love that many men sign up through my links. Wished that more models would do their own marketing. What does it hurt to have another skills set to help you get ahead in life.

Well, the strip club equivalent argument you are making is that Penthouse, Scores or other upscale strip clubs should allow any new dancer who wants to try working there an opportunity ... regardless of how out of shape, overweight or otherwise unappealing they might be. PLUS if the marginal new dancer finds herself unable to attract enough paid club customer spending to exceed the cost of her 'house fee', that the club should not only waive the house fee ( = reduced profit margin for the club ) but also 'give' the marginal dancer some of the money earned by 'top performing' dancers who are also working that night to 'compensate' the marginal dancer for the time she spent in the club !!!

We clearly disagree on the subject of whether or not webcam hosts have a 'duty' to provide webcam hosting and video stream bandwidth to any girl who signs up ... regardless of the girl's ability to generate sufficient revenues to 'pay her own way'. We also clearly disagree on the subject of whether or not marginal camgirls have a 'right' to be paid 'something' in exchange for the time they spend logged in, regardless of whether or not the marginal camgirl has actually produced sales revenues in excess of the costs she has created.

I get what you are saying, but I actually would have no problem with having to "audition" to webcam in the same way that you "audition" to dance. I would prefer that to a house fee.

I also don't equate the current system to "giving the marginal dancers money" - if you don't earn, you don't earn. make nothing, get nothing. Its more like saying that a strip club takes a larger amount of money from the earning dancers and uses it to expand the club, bigger and bigger, hire more servers, more bouncers, more bartenders, and then opens the doors to any woman who wants to dance. The money is going toward the business, and supporting the women's ability to work without necessarily earning money that way, not by directly giving them money.

However, I think that the main issue is that you are directly comparing camming to stripping, when the two industries are very different, and many girls like me came over to camming BECUASE they are different! I don't want camsites to be run like strip clubs - if I did, I'd go back to the damn strip clubs!!

... with one very significant difference ... a marginal dancer who doesn't earn money in an upscale club is NOT creating direct costs to the club when she is allowed on stage. But a marginal camgirl IS creating direct costs to the webcam host when she is allowed online !

Depends on the club! many of the clubs that I have worked with have provided really gorgeous locker rooms, hair dressing stations, extra tampons, hair ties, makeup and nail polish if needs be,even shoes/garters/etc for girls that forget them. I've heard of (though not worked in) clubs with jacuzzis, tanning beds, practice poles....Not to mention just the basics that everyone uses - space heaters or fans in the dressing room, cleaning, toilet paper, etc etc. And then on top of that - the most upscale clubs that I have worked at usually provided free champagne for the dancers!

And that is on top of the just basic wear and tear that is created by being in a space, heat, hot water etc that is distributed between staff, dancers and customers.

So I actually think that in the long term, dancers that do not make money DO cost a club money.

i'm extremely grateful that camming is not like stripping, because i don't have the right body type to be a stripper. but i am decent at camming and i can do porn.

that said...if streamate were run like a strip club with 75% payout plus a "house"/bandwidth fee, i'd be making about twice what i'm making now, given the same amount of traffic/paid shows. however...i like not having chargebacks and other perks. i'm not sure how high of a payout sm could do even with a house fee to offset bandwidth costs, because of chargebacks and advertising costs. even a 50% payout plus a house fee would probably make me more money than i make currently, though.

Sam, I could really use any tips you have about how to make the link that SM gives us convert. I've have invested so much time and energy marketing it and I've never gotten a single signup. I really have no idea what I am doing wrong.

I push it on Twitter, Tumblr, and C4S. I've even answered some questions on yahoo answers hoping to get traffic. For the life of me, I am not sure where else I can promote it or how to promote it more often than I do. :/

I'm down to signup. I don't know if it will do much help, but sure as hell doesn't hurt in trying :)
