I'm dreading the summer, but the weather is perfect during the months you mentioned.

I noticed that as well. Arizona or Oregon (usually Portland).

I could only ever see myself living in California, Oregon, Seattle, or New York. I prefer more milder climate due to arthritis I get when the weather changes or its cold though. And all of the things I'm interested in are in California... minus the price tag ugh.
State Income Tax in California is 10%. It's insane.

Minimum wage is high though. I have many friends who live in Oakland, pay $400-600 for a room for rent and commute to SF for work (public transportation) where minimum wage is $10.25. Most jobs in the East Bay start at $10/hr anyway. My job in fast food 2 years ago paid $10/hr. And rent is a lot cheaper in other cities.
Yeah, I understand that's why it's high, but self employment tax is high enough as it is and I don't think it's fair to add on an extra 10%. Self employment tax + federal income tax will be around 30% for me. If I lived in California, it would add 10%, and I would owe 40% in taxes. Arizona only has a 4% income tax, which I'm fine paying ... but 10%?? I would feel robbed.

If you're self employed and have a good accountant you shouldn't be paying much in taxes anyway...I didn't last year. I just gave all my info to my accountant and he did his magic and i ended up not owing. Remember a few months ago when Warren Buffet said he pays less taxes than his maid? All you need is a good accountant. If you move to CA Pm me for my guy's # lol.
Wow, I didn't even think that was possible. I'm shocked. I didn't use an accountant last year and I owed a lot.
I'll be hitting you up for your accountants number if I move to CA lol. In the meantime, looking for a decent one in AZ.

I'm from California and a ton of my hs friends relocated to Arizona. I briefly visited and wasn't impressed, but everyone I know there really likes it. It's really pretty there...I guess a lot of places really have that SoCal feel to them without the beach, or the high cost of living. Also, most states outside of California seem pretty scary to residents here so I guess Arizona seems like safe bet.

So how did you like Washington? And how long have you been there? I went on vaction to washington during the warmest time of year. Im from Miami, currently living in Austin. Ive been here a year and half and Im going back to Miami in a few days for good! But I did like Seattle. It was sooo lush and soooo green. I thought about moving there longterm

Oh girl...*shakes head*...get your ass to an accountant! Maybe visit a SC and ask the girls! But most accountants should get you a better deal. My accountant charges $200, for reference, and he also does previous years so he got a lot of my friends thousands of dollars back. I didn't work before last year so I didn't get any money back.
I know several girls on here who live near me so I'm going to ask around. I didn't work before last year either, so luckily I only paid the full amount for 1 year ... still, I could have used the money for a rhinoplasty, lol.

Anyways, thanks for letting me know. I'm going to find a CPA asap, so I don't get robbed again this year.

Oh I chose Iowa for now...because it is WAY cheaper than Minnesucka. I did not want to push the luck with my car. I'm heading for Nevada or Arizona soon though for sure. Iowa is just my pit stop hahaha.

They are pretty nice. Everyone looks at me like I am stupid when I say I am from the twin cities in Minnesota. They are like "WTF WHY DID YOU MOVE TO IOWA?" hahahaha I use to say the same to people who moved to Minnesucka land of the 10,000 retards and counting. No offense to anyone here if they are from Minnesucka...I was unfortunately born and raised there :/

Once mobile internet gets better and more coverage in the States, it would be cool to sell my house, buy a Winnebago, drive and just stop wherever looks good for the time being :)

Ever considered Las Vegas (no state taxes)? I've heard it's a great place to live if you have no vices. Obviously you wouldn't live downtown in the touristy area though. The economy isn't great there, but depending on what you do for a living, it could be a good option. I've never lived there - I just remember reading about it on Steve Pavlina's blog.

Is is very expensive there, as opposed to US? I love the cold also! PS I'm also a Dork

Is it more expensive? Yes and no. Depends on your lifestyle really. I've lived in a major city all my life and have never been rich. Therefore I know how to save a penny and how to enjoy a city on a budget. But I'm not here on my own. I have a fiance, so that helps. I live in the midlands and go into London quite a bit. So far so good. But the internet speed I got from Time Warner in the states waaay better than what I get now. Ouch

Yes I have, I have also moved from house to house, city to city, state to state. I literally just pack my shit and make a move.

Funny I found this thread though because lately I was thinking of moving to another country (where my parents are from) and seeing how life treats me over there.

I have, indeed. I just recently did that, going from Ottawa to Vancouver (where I currently reside). I haven't been here long though, it'll be a couple months by the end of June ... and then I'm shipping myself back to my home to spend some quality time with friends and family...because I'll be moving to Montreal after that/in the fall!

It can really be a powerful experience -- changing your environment can lead to changes in your behaviour or outlook, or atleast plant a seed in your mind. What I have found most difficult for me is meeting new people, you really have 0 rapport with anyone (even new friends) so it feels like everyone is flimsy and flakey on you, and that can be upsetting in a city full of strangers. The loneliness/solitary time in a strange place can do wonders for personal growth/self introspection, so keep that in mind. Just don't expect everything to blossom in the first couple of months, you need to ease into the transition.

I say go for it. You only live once, why not? You are also in a position where this is feasible and won't result in many negative consequences if things don't go your way. Good luck. :D

I've done it several times actually. Moved from Ontario to Quebec and back again a couple years later.
Then I went for a holiday in Florida for a few weeks and stayed several months- just shacked up with other dancers visiting from out of country.
I also left Canada and moved to Chicago after visiting it once.
Traveling is a bit difficult for me now, as my folks are getting older and I want to stay close to them.
Still, it's really enjoyable to even take a trip out of town/state for a change of environment. I think we all need a little vacation from time to time
