They'll offer insane money. Insane money ($5 mill) was paid for the book. The movie will do gangbusters, at least the first one, so Uni won't worry too much about spending. They're sitting on a goldmine, so the faster they can get the movie out, the better. That means everything's more expensive. But wait too long and they'll lose the momentum of the book.
My guess: they'll use the book as a template of sorts and try to give it a classy Adrian Lyne-like makeover. Do a 9 1/2 WEEKS for a new generation.
But if they stick strictly to the book...yeah, they're screwed. Dare I say the writing is worse than TWILIGHT. And that's saying something.
