i REALLY do not know what to do! i am at my wits end with this. so basically since switching over to the 'new settings' my feed is blurry. i cannot make shit for money like this. i contacted sm support for help and just now finally heard back from them and they told me that i HAVE to switch to an i7. i don't know what to do. i am at a loss with this. (which means both of my laptops are useless since they are both an i3) FUCK!

That's odd - I'm camming on an i3 atm but it's rammed with ram & has a SSD & my upload is 20meg so maybe that is helping
Shit babe you might need to sign up elsewhere while you get the funds together for an i7
Good luck with everything

is there a way for me to add more ram? how are u able to cam fine from an i3? sm is my bread and butter unfortunately. i need to figure this issue out. in the mean time, i can make c4s clips up the wazoo before payout. but i really cannot afford to buy another laptop atm.

I always ram my computers with as much ram as they can take because it's cheap & why would you not want everything to run quicker - it's a no brainer.
Also have now taken to chucking anything away that moves, ie, switching the HDD for SSD which really helps; if you can't afford a new pc then maybe try these quick fixes which are helping me until my i7 arrives next week (all going well!)
Hope that helps!

^ pardon my newbness on this but how do i go about doing that and how much does it cost?

Just a voice of precaution: an SSD DOES makes the computer faster (Because the most common bottleneck in a computer is the hard drive where the OS is installed. SSD's have transfer speeds that even saturate the SATA 6Gb/s ports, they're extremelyfast) BUT, it WILL NOT make a difference in the streaming performance. At the end of the day, you'll be bottlenecked by your upload speed.
Also, SSD's require special maintenance called TRIM, which is only fully available in Windows 7 and Mac OS X Lion. SSD's degrade too fast, and TRIM helps solve that somewhat.
SSD's usually are around $200-$600USD depending on what capacity you want (They're usually very small and only meant to store the OS. You REQUIRE another mechanical HDD to store other things there, for optimal performance).
Again, I don't recommend it. If you want a faster hard drive, get a Western Digital Velociraptor, but again, it won't help much.

^^ My stream is blurry too. But it's not outright horrible I guess, no one has complained and I haven't noticed a huge dip in traffic/privates so I'm hoping it won't be a big deal. I hate it though.

Try to use CPU-Z to get the specifications.

ok, i DID get an email from vanessa this morning. turns out that i HAVE switch back to the old settings so that my stream will be fine. (turns out, i missed some steps, ooops) she said that the new encoder settings are for i7's or i5's in particular, so i switched my settings back (thnx to vanessa for providing all the steps) :)
@karina my specs are intel core i3, 4gb RAM, 64 bit 0perating system and my upload speed is 3.20mbps.

Is the 64-bit OS really worth it? I know it allows you to use more RAM, but I've never had anything but program compatibility problems with them. :/

My feed has been super blurry lately too. I thought it was my cam but realized it was only when I was on SM. I have an i7 so idk what the deal-io is. Oh well. Cant wait for all the changes to be made and all to be well again in SM land lol. Wait....I don't think that's ever happened before lol

I need specifics regarding your processor. If you're using Windows Vista/Seven, click on Start Menu and right click on computer, then click on properties. Where it says "Processor" tell mespecifically what it says.
Considering all of the reports, it seems like the problem is on Streamate's side.

Personally, I haven't had an issue with the 64-bit. I have Windows 7. I think it's great.
I don't even have an i3, i5, or i7. I have a dual-core because that's what SM said to use when they first started running HD, so that's what I bought. However, I have 6 mb RAM.
As for upgrading RAM, search for your computer online and find out what kind of RAM it's capable of holding and how many slots it has for installing more memory.
Ex:
Memory Capacity: 12GB DDR3
Memory Spec: 4GB x 3
Memory Slot (Total): 4
Memory Slot (Available): 1
Maximum Memory Supported: 16GB
I just looked up a random computer. This computer comes with 12GB but it can hold up to 16GB. There's one available slot, so that means you can go out and buy 4GB of RAM and install it in that open slot. It's super easy, just open the computer up and pop it in.
I haven't done this in about 6 years, and I did it on a really old computer way back when, but I remember it was really easy. By the way, 4 GB should be pretty cheap and I think it's totally worth trying that out until you can save for a new computer.
I plan on buying an i7, and I really could pinch pennies and get it now, but I'm waiting until I absolutely can't cam with my dual core anymore, and so far I'm still making money with it. There's nothing wrong with it, so I really hate to box it up just yet. Also, I've been looking for deals online, but hubby says we're buying the best we can find. If there's an issue, he wants me to be able to e-mail support and give them the specs to my kick ass computer, so it's known that it can't possibly be issues on my end.

Replacing your own RAM is a piece of piss - REALLY! I've done it in all my computers both Mac & PC. At the moment the most RAM windows can use is 16GB but that will no doubt change in future

^^^ agreed that adding RAM ... and increasing system ram settings ... is the single most cost effective improvement available. And yes it's as simple as buying the correct memory and plugging it ( them ) into open motherboard socket (s).

SM is highly annoying. I just bought a new labtop last year. There the only site that does this ridiculous stuff. Luckily I need a desktop otherwise I would give them a not so nice gesture. I've used a Mac before but I'm not all that familar with them so it will be a learn curve. I've also never had an Asus an I'm always kinda iffy about buying new brands.

I don't splitcam, so I may be overlooking something, but to me those two stand out. Just remember that there's always a weakest link, so if your internet is mediocre, no computing power can make up for it!

For those of you with blurry streams, what are your upload speeds?
Here's why I ask.... Using the new encoder settings I have tested on all three of my computers....
My PC desktop which is an AMD equivalent to an i7 (you do not HAVE to have and intel processor people!) runs the encoder settings absolutely perfectly, fps stays at 29.
My Macbook Pro which is an i5 runs them perfectly fine....
My iMac which is an i3 runs the new settings really well also....
My upload speed is 35mbps, so I am wondering if it is the upload speeds that are giving some of you the problems you are seeing. Because clearly I have computers ranging from an i3-i7 and I'm seeing generally the same performance across all computers. The fps does drop a tad on the macs to about 22-25fps, but I think that is possibly a ram issue. But otherwise, I could get by using any of these machines and not see a drop in performance, placement, etc.
I think if you don't have a high upload speed to support the stream it's going to hurt you more than the processor you are using....?

If you decide to get a Mac, keep in mind the split cam options are extremely limited. Not only is there no decent program to split the cams, you cannot run two instances of the encoder. This is a big factor in why I got a PC solely for camming.
And besides, why spend the money on a Mac for camming? You can get a super fast PC for a fraction of the cost that you can run into the ground working, and you won't have wasted an expensive machine. When I cammed on my Mac it got VERY hot, which is not good at all. My last Mac over heated and the logic board went out, and I had to replace it! Not something you want to do!
Overall, I do not suggest Macs for camming. For everything else, absolutely. For camming work, no.

In my opinion, the Sony looks like a bad deal for camming. Cannot add RAM, and there are only 3 USB ports. I look for at least 6. You might also want to look for 3.0 if you're planning on spending the money anyway. And I really know nothing about them, but those all-in-one computers make me very wary.
I wouldn't buy a Mac for camming unless you love them, really know how to use them, aren't splitting, etc.
I know nothing about Asus. Personally, I will be buying Gateway, but that's just my personal preference.
PrincessLuna

I definitely recommend an Asus. They have more than enough power for split camming and is a long term better buy than a Dell, Gateway, and most other brands. I have 2 Asus' and my newer one is a G53S. It's super SUPER quiet. No fans going off and getting picked up by your cam. Also, the vents are on the back so they're much easier to keep cool than most other laptops. I am NOT a laptop girl. I love my gaming machines (they're like my babies) and have only purchased these laptops for mobility; so I was incredibly picky. Completely impressed and not disappointed.
EDIT: Oh, hey, we're talking about desktops; way to read the forum Lunah.
WELL THEN! For a desktop I have to recommend a Cyberpower PC. I had a custom one built that is an absolute MONSTER in speed and memory for $1,100. This included a liquid cooling system and huge fans. They also threw in a free 22" monitor and free shipping.

You most certainly can run two instances of the encoder on a mac. Albeit its a bit more complex then the double clicking you would do on a PC. Unless you are trying to stream using two separate video sources, I do not really see why one would want to do this. You can stream to multiple sources using the same instance by simply using the "backup url" as your second FMS.
As for the split camming options mac has lots to offer, however the only two free ones that come to mind are camtwist and many cam. I honestly prefer camtwist and have found it better then everything that is offered in the "free" price range for PC. That said what I do envy (that is very pricey) that is only available for PC is Videoblaster http://vidblaster.com/

Where is the backup url on the encoder? I don't see this setting, maybe I'm blind lol :)
If you use the same encoder for both sites you stream to, then what do you do about the settings being different for each site? For example SM settings are way higher than cams.com settings...?
Also, which split cam software is available on the mac? I don't mind if it's not free, I paid for the one I use on my PC. I just have not been able to find a good one for mac, I don't know maybe I'm not searching for the right thing....? I have found a lot of "video effects" type things, but nothing that splits my cam without degrading the quality.

The encoder actually allows you to save your settings to a file. Set up your SM settings, save it, then set your other site settings, and save them as a seperate file. It adds a step in that you have to load the settings file when you start up, but it beats the hell out of setting them from scratch every time!

The 2 I am considering though are dual core and I don't know how well they will work. Here are the specs if anyone can give me some advice or opinions....

So, I'm changing my response regarding my opinion on the Asus vs other computers. I spoke to several people yesterday in the course of shopping for computers. They told me that Asus has been a hardware manufacturer for 20 years and, while they're new to whole computers, they are creating great computers in which the hardware works very well. Like they know which motherboard works well with which other parts, etc. Also, I was told that they create very solid, quality motherboards.
I am now looking at buying the Asus CM6870-US-3AB. It has all the specs I need, and I don't need the blu-ray reader listed on for the US-AA model. The CN6870-US-AB has an i7 processor with the Ivy Bridge (that's 3rd generation, as opposed to the Sandy Bridge, which is also an i7 but it's only 2nd generation.) I chose to go with the Ivy Bridge because apparently it increases CPU efficiency anywhere from 5% to 15%, and for gamers, there's an increase of up to 50%. The specs listed are wrong about the USB ports. There are 8 total: 4 each of 2.0 AND 3.0. That's awesome. It has 16GB RAM, 2T harddrive. That's more RAM and memory than I'll probably ever need, but at least I don't have to worry about it.
Basically, that one has everything I need. I found it for $880.
I was amazed at how few stores near me carry i7s. And the ones that do only have the equivalent in an AMD or they only have it in a laptop or all-in-one. They didn't have a single i7 that was a stand-alone CPU. Well, except for one store that had some Alienware machines that someone ordered but didn't buy. But the guys at all the stores really don't recommend Dell as strongly as they recommend Gateway or Asus even. In fact, they seemed to be saying that for their money and purposes, the Asus are the best machines and will probably last the longest.
Just thought I should update, after spending the last day doing research and basically interviewing techies.

I have an AMD, and it's a quad core. You are definitely going to want at least a quad core.

I have an AMD equivalent to an i7 and it works absolutely perfect for camming. There is nothing wrong with getting AMD instead of Intel. I am really not understanding why everyone is insisting that they HAVE to have an Intel...?

Ahh...this is what I figured. I guess I will stick with the quad core I have since it's only 6 months old but still buy one of those dual cores for my son because he needs his own computer. We are sharing mine and that just doesn't work well lol

If anything you should just buy yourself a brand new beast and give your son the quad core :P

That's actually what I wanted to do but those 2 computers had payment plans and I wanted to take advantage of that. I'll keep looking though but so far my AMD quad is working great.

Just to set the record straight, on a 'stand alone' basis, NOTHING that AMD currently offers can equal an Intel I7. On the other hand, the Intel I7 is at least $100 more expensive than an AMD processors ... and in a multi-tasking environment involving heavy graphics like camming, the new AMD FX series 8 core processors come damn close to I7 performance. Similarly, the AMD A series quad core processors pretty much replicate the performance of an Intel I5 in a camming environment.
With that said, any AMD dual core processor that is still available is going to be VERY slow, even compared to the Intel I3. As a personal opinion, I would not consider investing in an AMD dual core processor based computer today, nor would I consider investing in an Intel Celeron based computer. Both are essentially 'two generations' behind the times.
