100% mac user here.. :D

Slightly off topic question, but has anyone tired the Logitech C930e webcam yet? I know that many of us are using the C920, was wondering if anyone is seeing a huge improvement with the 930e. From what I have read online is that its slightly better quality lens and it auto-focuses way faster than the C920.....

Has anyone had this issue with a laptop?

So I purchased an Acer laptop about 8 months ago, new. Every time I tried to open the internet it would open an error page. I'd go into my internet connection and have to do a troubleshoot. Then everything seemed find and normal and I'd be able to use the internet. I'd have to do this 10+ times per day. We had 50mb service with 10 upload. We have 2 desktop computers and they've never had any trouble.

Then I thought it was just a problem with my laptop so I purchased a new i7 toshiba laptop and it's doing the exact same thing! The internet always seems to be running so slow even though when I do a speed test it says 72 mb (we have 105 mb service now). I even bought a wireless receiver and it doesn't seem to fix anything. It's only a problem with my laptop as our desktop computers with a hard connection don't seem to have an issues.

I've been away for a while, but I volunteer myself to help in any way I can (When I get time) if you gals need help with your computer stuff. I'll ask another friend who also posts in this forum to see if she's willing to volunteer too.

So yeah, I say let's make this thread the Official camgirl tech support thread :p

@smaddy, is the laptop factory stock? Or have you installed another operating system in it?

Also, have you tried testing with an ethernet cable? You know, the network cable that goes from the computer to your router/modem.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask...but I want to know what is the best laptop to buy. I figured that a gaming laptop would be a good idea since it has to keep up with a lot of really good graphics without lagging.
What laptops do you girls use? I'm willing to spend a lot of money on this + a good webcam so I don't really have too much of a budget.

the video card isn't that important to video streaming, to be honest, althought the ones over 1GB do the trick just well.

The power lies withing the processor and the RAM memory.. the more, the better.. i recomment an i5 up to i7 intel processor, or an AMD over 3.0 Ghz.. it's absolutely mandatory to have a processor over 3.0 Ghz minimum.... as for Ram memory goes, 4 Gbs of memory should hold one site in HD without any problems, but you should go higher, in any case.

As for operating systems, i'll always be faithful to ye' old Windows XP... call me oldschool, but it's the one that doesn't cause me any software bugs, and it consumes little resources. There are two versions... the 32 bit version is old and cannot see more than 3Gbs OF ram, therefore, 64bit version is always my way to go. However, there are a few camsites who will ask you to upgrade to win7, such as Livejasmin.. it's only up to you.

My internet is super-fast, and i connect through a cable... wireless is pretty inefficient.

Gothpuppy... the perfect combination would be an i7 with 8 GB of ram + logitech c920, or logitech BCC500 if you fancy a remote control.

The advice in this thread (including the recommendations for free anti-virus) saved my beloved laptop from spyware and malware hiding in a program I tried to download. A friend of mine used the same download link (damn you torrents!) and her computer cost $350 to repair. Thank you all so, so much!

I wonder where the OP is, though. I'd like to merge the thread I made into this one, or at least some of the info, since I find that the info could be useful for all of us here.

Hello Ladies :) I am reading through this thread....I saw it says it's locked but people are posting in it again? I hope it's OK that I post here.

My laptop/webcam sitch is SAD. My money sitch is also very sad. So, I'm thinking of buying a new Webcam (Logitech C920) and seeing if that helps with my shitty camming quality. I guess my question, the first one anyway, if I get a new webcam but still use it with my old laptop....I'll have a higher quality image but still have the freezing screen/lagging issue that plagues my laptop....yes?

My second question is: does anyone have any advice for a laptop? I am a Windows user. I have an HP Pavilion. It was great for a few years but now it's slow/overheats/etc etc. I'm trying to keep the laptop budget under $500...if that's even possible. I'm probably gonna have to put it on a credit card regardless but yeah. I obviously want something that will work well for camming. I'd like to try multi-siting once I get the hang of this.

Any advice, is much appreciated :)

KarinaGiselle
05-07-2014, 06:03 PM
Well, that's kinda tricky...

Although the C920 offers a superb video quality, you gotta have the computer specs to match it. You don't need a super beast of a system, but something quite reasonable could be useful.

It really depends on your system specs: What processor you have, the type and amount of RAM in your system, whether or not you have a USB 3.0 port in it, etc.

I could suggest you a laptop, but before that (In order to ease the search): May I know on which country do you live? You can PM me that if you don't want to make it public :)

Cheers!

Yeah, I can up it to ~$700. Maybe a little more. I'll be getting a little bit of money from my first week in camming soon so that will help. Basically, nothing more than $1000. Any ideas?

Then, by all means, get any of these two laptops as they are, without adding any extra features or software.

And get the C920 from Dell, as well. Just to use their service, already

Does camming work on iPads?

KarinaGiselle
06-28-2014, 10:47 PM
Negative. The only way you could use an iPad for camming would be for Skypr shows. You can't stream with an iOS device (Or any other smartphone or tablet) to a site like Streamate AFAIK.

I need a good computer for camming and video editting. In thinking about a Mac since I mostly can from kinklive. Anyone use macs?

AspiringCamGirl
07-14-2014, 11:09 PM
^To answer your question. I originally had a MacBook Pro before I started camming. It was an older one, so the technical specs were not good enough to work on Streamate. I ended up buying a Windows laptop. I suppose it would depend on how much video editing you plan to do. My ex edited videos for a living and he only deals with Macs, but he also has very big projects. Unless you are planning on making your computer a huge video editing monster, I think it's something a Windows laptop can do. Nowadays, you can get an awesome Windows gaming style tower or laptop for under 1000 where you can cam and video edit on the same machine.

I wanted to add to this thread that a cooling fan is a must sometimes. If I cam longer than 2 hours, I can feel my laptop getting hot. I use this fan and I don't have that problem anymore. This is really important because I almost busted an old laptop last year before i even started camming because it could not cool down!

http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-NotePal-Ultra-Slim-R9-NBC-XSLI-GP/dp/B005C31HC0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405404386&sr=8-1&keywords=laptop+cooling

That is the one I use. Buy a laptop cooling fan NOW if you use a laptop!

Sorry to attach a reply on this thread, but I am having some major issues with my mic. When I log onto Streamate and click, start my show usually an approval box pops up with the mic and video settings offered on little bottom tabs. When I checked the setting on my mic to make sure it was working there were no sound bars! I tried restarting my computer, refreshing the Stream page, changing browsers. unplugging and replugging the mic, switching mics over to the Logitech C920 and still, nothing! I am running out of options. I tried switching computers and then the interface started freezing and wouldn't let me select anything. If I can't get this working, I will be out of time and money. :( help! I pretty much ended the day with $5 in one hour of work and in complete frustration once the cam was off from this mic not working. I threw a fit and you can imagine how frustrated I became when my mic end up hitting the floor. I paid over $900 dollars for a fast, good computer, $50 on my mic, paid for faster internet, made sure all my ducks were in a row and now, I have to stream with no sound which is, unrealistic. -sighs- I feel like I am out a lot of pocket money with little to no results. Can someone please relate or give me some advice as to how on earth I can fix this thing? What could it be?

I was having issues with my mic as well. Are you using a separate mic or the mic in your cam? I found that logging out and clearing history helped. Once I signed back into sm right click on the video stream > settings and was able to get it back but I had to turn it up in the settings of the actual microphone. My built in laptop mic is set as the default and it's awful so muffled sounding.

This is weird to me. I conducted a speed test with and without WiFi. Results: WiFi: UL 1.13mbps Hardwired: .82 Mbps

Does anyone have any advice on how I can remedy this? From what I understand hardwired should be at or more speed right?

My suggestions to get your computer at optimal health

1. Install Malwarebytes
2. Install CCleaner
3. Install Spybot Search & Destroy

My husband works as a computer technician and actually cleans peoples computer from virus's daily. Since he knows all about my camming and what I use, he has mentioned that he can tell who *might* be camgirls, hehe with splitcam software, manycam, etc. He even accidentally saw some woman's nudes once as well by her asking to unhide her files to move them over. How embarrassing.

Hey girls! Can a few a you tell me what is the minimum computer requirement a girl needs to have in order to be able to broadcast? I am having a major issue with an old Toshiba almost 8 years old. I got a new webcam c270 by Logitech and my video is freezing on CB. I am in need of work and I already troubleshooted the computer the most of my ability. Thank you very much in advance.

i3 or i5 processor is ok. But I definitely recommend i7 for optimal streaming. Not to mention, your upstream speed is a factor as well. You can however film clips in the mean time and sell them on sites like manyvid or clips4sale. Save up enough for a new computer/laptop that have better specs.

Hi Ladies! How do you deal with having to get your computer fixed. Mine is a few yrs old already and it's been through a lot the past couple of months. For starters I downloaded a virus from an attachment and then a few months back something fell and broke off a bit of the front end, it didnt really seem to effect the performance but now I have the monitor stuck in sleep mode and googling and consulting my ex we came to the conclusion that it's likely an issue with the computer and not the monitor.

I have years worth of sexy pics on there as well as videos. If I take it to a computer fixing place they will see those right? (So embarrassing..) plus the fact that I have 'real work' stuff there too :-/ do I just take it and screw what they think? Ps. I was in the process of taking new pics last so if that all comes up if and when they fix it they won't have to look far to find juicy stuff :-/

This is why I transfer EVERYTHING onto an external hard drive as soon as I finish work for the day. Does your laptop have a port that you can plug a regular monitor/ tv up to? I'd hook up a monitor and external drive to transfer and delete the files, then take it in for servicing.

I started to get one of those Chrome books that are like $250 just to cam instead of using my regular computer...still thinking about it.

Aurora14
07-23-2015, 04:53 PM
If you get a chrome book, you will have a hard time making money. Your stream will be choppy at best. As soon as I saw 2GB of RAM I stopped reading the specs on it. TVH I didn't expect much with it being so cheap. You get what you pay for. It is worth it to save and invest in real hardware.

Cleaning Temp Files and Registry
How Often: Once a week, minimum.
Why: In the day-to-day operations, a computer has to store a great amount of temporary data. Over time, these temporary files can add up, bogging down your system as it tries to sort through all the junk to find what it needs. Cleaning out these files is sort of like doing spring cleaning: Getting old crap out of the way so you can store new crap. It can also, depending on the program used, remove dead shortcuts.

CCleaner
OS: Windows, Mac (OS X 10.5 to 10.7)
http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER
How-to (Cleaner): CCleaner may look slightly intimidating when you first open it, but it is very simple to use. In the “Cleaner” tab, simply select the checkboxes for items you would like to have cleaned out. Be careful, as the greyed-out boxes, while you can click them, are generally something you don’t want to clear out unless absolutely necessary (such as saved passwords).

Once you have selected the items you would like cleaned, click “Analyze” and CCleaner will check through the files for things that are useless or unneeded, junk files. Once it’s done analyzing, select “Run Cleaner” to clean them out. You may have to Analyze and Clean multiple times for CCleaner to find all the junk. The more frequently you run the program, the less work it will have to do, making the process much faster.

How-to (Registry): The same process as the cleaner, for the most part. All the boxes may be checked in the Registry tab before selecting “Scan for Issues”. CCleaner will scan through your registry for errors, unused extensions, and other such things. When it finishes, select “Fix Selected Issues”.

Ccleaner will ask you if you want to backup any changes it makes. This is not mandatory. The program will then start going through the list of errors and things to fix. You can either click through them one-by-one, or simply select “Fix All Selected Issues” to have it automatically fix everything.

As with the cleaner, you may have to Analyze and Fix several times to catch all the errors. This is normal.

Do you guys see any noticeable difference between the FREE program of CCleaner and the paid versions? I'm thinking that as long as I remember to use it weekly that there is no need for the paid upgrade.

On a related note, I've been nagging my husband about maintainance on his laptop for like 3 months now. I keep telling him what he needs to do, but I won't touch it myself. I'm slowly killing my desktop, not getting accused of killing something that isn't mine. The other night he says, "I don't get why it is so slow. I haven't uploaded anything in months, only deleted stuff." The "Really!?" look comes onto my my face so he knows it is time to listen to what I'm saying. Just running CCleaner got his CPU usage from 90-95% down to 45%. He was so happy he played LOL with one of his friends and they had the best match they've played in almost a year. His procrastinating ways are going to kill me.

Yes, go to your windows update center. On the left, select "Change Settings". On the drop down, select "Check for updates but let me decide when to download and install them."

Hey, I'm really hoping that someone can help me out here. I've been having issues with my stream and realized that it's because even though my laptop is recognizing the ethernet cable when I plug it in, it's only connecting to wifi. I'm using an ASUS win8 laptop that I bought about a year ago. For some reason under Network Connections, it lists my wifi connection under an ethernet connection, and when I hover my mouse over the ethernet symbol in the right hand corner it lists the wifi connection and then says "Unidentified network No internet Access" below. I'm searching for a fix but so far nothing has worked, and I've tried two different ethernet cables.

Any ideas?

Have you gotten a fix for this yet? Maybe you need to uninstall the ethernet drivers and then reinstall them? Also look for an updated driver for your WiFi adapter. (https://www.asus.com/support/Download) But DO NOT uninstall your current adapter until you do. Otherwise you won't be able to get online. This should get you started. You just need to put in the appropriate serial numbers make/model etc to get the right drivers. Then save them to your computer. After you've done this uninstall previous drivers just to be safe.

Hey, thanks for the response PGD! I reset my modem, disabled and then re-enabled drivers and updated them, and that seemed to work. I think that I'm going to try to adding a different router so that I'm not relying on comcast's modem, I'm thinking that should help too. Thanks again!

Bring up the logitech webcam controller and uncheck autofocus. Then advanced settings turn off right light and gaun and white balance. Ideally you need to set these manually and you should notice the fps will climb. Back up to 26-30 fps. All it is the cameras processor is working to hard at the encoding for the auto to work right. So setting manual settings gives you the nice smooth 30fps experiance. Also turn the cam to 720p.
