I would suggest getting a desktop so that you can make modifications as time goes on. 16gb of ram should allow you to run 3 or more sites at a time. Also a good graphics card helps. This is the one I have and its a beast of a machine. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-desktop-intel-core-i7-12gb-memory-1tb-8gb-hybrid-hard-drive-gray/4819400.p?skuId=4819400

Just keep throwing money at the issue.

Many thanks for replying. My upload speed is 1.8 and all the sites use justcamit, my lenovo has a quad core I think.

Well throw money at the issue lol

Or in seriousness since justcamit uses 800kbps upload you do ideally need more upload before you will benifit from different hardware. 800kbps x 3 = 2400kbps 2.4Mbps 0.27mb sec. so 1.8 wont cut it for 3.

New hardware wont really help until you got more upload however its a nice shiney and pretty thing that can sit on the desk that does what the one you have already does.

Ideally check provider speeds in your area or ask your provider which package they have gives you most upload speed.

Quadcore i7 should easy be enough for 3 sites with justcamit. a duo core i3 will run a single site.

Always try and make money first before you spend on other things.

Thanks so much Selena I can upgrade to faster fibre( I'm with Talktalk) which has an upload of 19. Xx

I am on Talktalk check first the speed I got 19Mbps on the large fibre. However the cheaper 10Mbps package is more than enough for 3 sites on justcamit and its much cheaper.

Just so you know. Its vdsl which is fiber to the cabnet then copper to the house. Ita still fiber speeds its just to distance to the cabnet thats the issue to check.

Talktalks routers arent as locked down as some of the crappy routers I have seen however it is 100Mbps ports for the network. They dont do a 1gbps network router anymore.

Brilliant! I'm chatting to them at the moment finding out prices. I really appreciate your help. Xx

If the router doesnt cut the mustard for you I know a few under £80 routers that will. Rather than splashing out on a nightfire router that others will tell you to buy. N17u vdsl Asus as example. Still has a duo core and all the features of a nightfire just doesnt look like a landmine and cost anywhere near as much.

Amazing advice, Selena! Your tech knowledge is amazing lol, I am so ashamed.

I have been using this laptop since 2012 and somehow still banking on AW; but It's time I got serious about splitcamming though as although I do well, I know I am selling myself short I really want to give SM another go, and also work SkyPrivate and possibly MFC.

After paying off a load of debt I am finally in a position to buy a new laptop - I can spend up to £600 (about $750) Should I prioritise an i7 over everything else? I am getting this as the general truth from re-reading threads here. There are lots of other laptops I've heard about, but I know that particularly for SM, an i7 is essential.

Is there anything else I should look out for? Would any of you be able to recommend something in about that price range which you've had experience with? I have heard great things from my friends about non i7s but they aren't cammers so it's a whole different thing. I need decent stream across, say, splitting two sites and having Skype on in the background.

Thanks a lot xx

edit: I should mention, my internet speed is really good

Does it have to be a laptop?

I use a amd fx8350 8core and it splitcams fine.

Let me know if it has to be a laptop or not

Also are you UK or USA?

Arwen25
12-13-2016, 04:57 AM
Well, I guess not! I mean the only issue is space, but I reckon with a bit of organisation it would work fine.
Is there anything else I would need to consider before getting a desktop?

Thanks so much xxx

OK just you get more bang for your buck with a desktop.

Better heat management. Upgrade options easy repairs etc

I just need to know which country and will post some links

OK laptop. Stay the fuck away from 7th gen i7 they are shit

The best i7 laptop found so far for splitcam is something with a 6700hq cpu the 7500u in a 7th gen runs SM at 60% cpu so stay away.

Laptop
£480
MSI GL62 6QF 1089UK 15.6-Inch FHD Gaming Notebook (Black) - (Intel i7 6700HQ, 16 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, 1 TB HDD, GTX 960M Graphics Card, Windows 10) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LMWCCXW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Kt-tyb1SZG884

Desktop
£650
PALICOMP Gaming PC INTEL Skylake i7 6700K 4.0Ghz Turbo 4.2Ghz Quad Core - 8GB 2133Mhz Crucial Ballistix Sport - 1TB Sata3 HDD - AMD R7 250 2GB - 1080p Gaming System - No OS - Game Max GM-1 Blue Case https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DWIZKK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KA-tybD80KXRR

This doesnt come with Windows however you can buy windows 10 cheap like £10 with a real key from eBay.

Just to give you an idea on these

7500u. 7th gen. 2 physical core 2 threads per core. So quad core. Cpu score 5120
6700hq 6th gen. 4 physical core 2 theads per core so octo core cpu score 8120
6700k 6th gen 4 physical core 2 threads per core so octo core. Cpu score 11250

So the new 7th gen is a pile of shit in terms of cpu for your dollar.

The 6th core 6700 ranges are beast cpu. And ideal for split camming. They are solid 8 core cpus and can handle huge loads.

Just for a difference of opinion

Amd fx8350 8core desktop £560 with Windows 10

ADMI ULTRA GAMING PC - AMD FX-8350 High Spec Green LED, Home, Family, Multimedia Desktop Gaming Computer with Platinum Warranty: Powerful AMD 4.0Ghz Eight Core CPU, Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti 4GB DDR5 HDMI Graphics Card, HDMI, High Speed USB3.0, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, 24x DVDRW Drive, Bronze Rated PSU, Phanteks Enthoo M Pro Green LED Gaming PC Case, Windows 10 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SJM9QT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NG-tybAP45CZF

Cpu score is 8500 so faster than the 6700hq laptop

So I would find it hard to recommend anything that isnt a i7-6700 based cpu or a fx8350 based cpu.

Its literally based on sheer performance which is what you need for splitcam.

The amd fx8350 8core runs the smbroadcast at 20% cpu

The int i7 6700hq 8 core runs the smbroadcast at 28% cpu

The int i7 6700k ocore runs the smbroadcast at 20% cpu

I know this from my own pc. Marinastar has a i7 6700k and teddy_bear has a 6700hq.

Well use the saving and have 2 c920 cams. You can splitcam with the smbroadcast encoder then.

But for any girls reading this

I7 - 6700hq. If you want a laptop
I7 - 6700k or fx8350 if you want a desktop

These are splitcam grade processors not typical consumer grade processors.

Its a shame the i7 7500u is such a weak cpu so buyer beware unless your only working 1 site they might be advertised as the best there is but when you actually check the performance scores on passmark its a pile of shit compared. That said Intel flood the market with so many different types of cpu its a mine field. So always check the cpu model type. Some i3 are faster than some i7 some i5 are faster than i7

So I tried to pick out the very best for price grade cpus.

Dont forget as a camgirl we dont need amazing graphics cards. A Nvidia 1080I 8GB is a total waste. So is a rx480 8GB so you can always save money on this area of a desktop.

A $5 second hand silent HD5450 1gb by amd will still display 2 screens at 1080p so if possible stop wasting money in this area. Unless you play games like doom 4 in 1440p over 60 fps of course.

Since most high end graphics cards cost more than a pc do you really want something so high end?

I do wish there was a proper sticky for this area so could get proper cpu comparisons up and how to set the pc for max performance.

Thanks for the tips on saving on graphics, that's not something I had even entertained, I don't game or anything so that is something I can save on. If I went for the laptop you suggested, would it be an idea to invest in the two webcams you suggested with the savings, and cam from separate laptops (using my old one for AW as it works fine), and then maybe split SM with another site so I am splitting using two laptops? I am concerned about the audio issues I've seen a lot of people having on the splitcam guide thread. I have splitcam before using two laptops (my bf's i7 fast one for SM), but never from the same PC. I hope it's something I could get the hang of..

Appreciate all the information you're provided, Selena. x

I use 2 webcams on one pc it makes the zoom pan and tilt harder to use but doable.

I however use more than 1 screen 4 in total so it makes it easier to see whats happening in chat.

Its easy enough when you get used to it. That laptop i7-6700hq cpu can run 2 cams fine. Its very nearly as powerful as my amd cpu.

As far as I know I dont have audio issues however when split camming I just pop a wet wipe over the SM broadcast camera so the freeloaders can hear as it drives them nuts they cant see.

What do you guys use to clean your pc? I was using CCleaner, but the last time I used it it screwed with Windows Movie Maker and it took me a long time to figure it out and get it working again. I'm hoping to find a program that will leave my other programs alone and only clean what I don't need :)

Wanted to revive this thread to add a very valuable resource that EVERYONE on the Internet should have.

AdBlock Plus (https://adblockplus.org/)

It's a free plugin for most browsers and will block ads on nearly every website you visit. As some sites contain ads with malware, this is important to have. It will also speed up most web pages when loading. (And if you download it on your phone, it saves data because half of your mobile data is chewed up by ads.) You can disable it for websites you visit frequently & want to financially support (like bloggers or YouTubers). I highly recommend it.
