Can I resuscitate this lovely lighting thread? Currently not working on lighting for camming, which is easier I find, but for clips. I move around more in my clips and camming is tolerant of all kinds of low production values, but HD video customs and for clips4sale? Not so much. What are you using lately ladies? I have a set of umbrella lights and the cowboy softboxes (don't use them at once). Recently gave up incandescent altogether, as well as gels. Trying to get rid of the blue tone and get a truly natural skin tone. No access to natural light, usually (sadly). Considering the bad reviews for these amazon kits daylight bulbs, perhaps I need to change up the bulbs that came with them. Right now my olive skin tends to look pasty. Tried large gold umbrellas, I use a reflector. Back to the small white umbrellas that came with the kit, but think I might need bigger ones. Any thoughts?

^^ I use 4 regular lamps placed around the perimeter of my room at different heights. I use 2 blue tinted fluorescent bulbs (from Home Depot recommended by Friday's Child somewhere in here) and 2 warm fluorescent bulbs(from the dollar store). Very simple. Light look great. They bounce off the walls and mirrors in my room to give nice all over light. NO shadow. I don't use gels, umbrellas or expensive light bulbs. 2 of my lamps are $9 clip lamps from Home Depot. One is on top of my tv monitor. You can seriously remodel your lighting for under $50 with clip lamps (remove shade) and or lamps from the thrift store and/or Walmart! :)

Cool tips Rainey, especially I think that would be great for those who don't have a dedicated cam room and want to keep the clutter from lights and such down. My studio is too big to bounce light off the walls (13' ceilings, at 25' x 25' space at least), but I like to do that in my peach spare bedroom or white bedroom at home sometimes.

Whoa you need the big guns. Have you tried LED lights instead? They have a larger falloff so they may work better for you in such a large space...camera people are always using them in lofty places. They can be pricey but if you shop around you'll get a great deal. I love B&H. Here's a good set:

Hyori, are you still subscribed to this thread? I read some online tutorials on LED and it seems like the way to go. I'm seriously considering investing in this set, as it can go from warm to cool and I often have white balance/coolness problems on my videos. 2 lights and a keylight. Can you tell me how you know LED is good for a space like mine? Is it simply wattage or something else? Not something I found the answer to in my research. I'd like to stick with a Canadian company because of shipping and duty tax, so I'm looking at Henry's: http://www.henrys.com/77719-LUMAHAWK-LMX-LD936ASKT-LED-3-HEAD-KIT.aspx#prodtabs-1

I'm glad I saw this thread. It reminded me to order the diva ring lights. My lighting set up is too bulky and at night I have to play with the yellow effect. I use to 5 light lamps. It's a pain in the butt. But I've researched these diva lights and I really want one. It has tripod threading for most any camera device. I think when I get it Im gonna just use it only. I like a cozy soft look for camming. This video breaks it down

I want one of those too, but I think they work best in smaller spaces :( I love the white ring they make in the eye !

Yea I have a small camroom that I work from. But in the video it shows how it can work well in a three light set up. And it's a really big light the diva ring. I was surprised in one video when a lady stood next to it. Go to about 9:30 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RKtQZRqfek&list=LLF_VIZXpwrI6iGyGM-70RCw&index=5 The whole packaged deal was around $650 and down http://www.dvestore.com/search.php?search_query=judy&x=0&y=0

Holy shit, yes, get those lights, they will have more than enough power for your space. Those are fucking bright! Plus they won't heat up like CFL's or incandescents. You'll probably want to keep the temperature at 5500k--the purest white light. I find that anything lower is yellowish and anything brighter is blueish but then again, it depends on your complexion and how much natural light you have around you.

My god I just about had an orgasm when I saw those lights.

I still want to make improvements with my lighting, but I've actually had quite a few customers tell me they love my lighting.

The color of my walls really helps: they are a very soft peachy cream with stripes that alternate between matte and gloss. They reflect light in such a pretty way, my work is almost done. I'm not a very pastel person but somehow it works in this room.

I try to use straight daylight when I can, but I tend to be on at night. I use a architect desk lamp with a daylight bulb in it, and a floor lamp with a soft white bulb. If I were to do this in another room, i would definitely just go with a third light, and use a daylight bulb in it. Depending on the colors of my surroundings, I would maybe just do all daylights.

It doesn't look professional, but it looks very cozy, and lit pretty well. It's a bright dim look, if that makes sense.

Hey lovelies been a while!!!! Haven't checked in here in a hot minute but felt deja vu seeing this thread alive on the first page of CC haha!

Upon AnnMorette's savvy recommendation on page 2 here I got the Cowboy Studio kit (http://www.amazon.com/Cowboystudio-Photography-Portrait-Continuous-Umbrellas/dp/B003WLY24O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350987735&sr=8-1&keywords=cowboy+studio+lighting+kit) just wanna chime in it's been like over two years and I've replaced the daylight bulbs a gajillion times but thing is sweet and can't beat the bargain price!!!!

I don't find it that much of a pain in the butt for set up and take down either; I use two extension chords and set up all three in under ten minutes for fuss free indoor lighting. Wish I'd thought to invest in a three point lighting system from the get go because it was totally worth it so if you're new to camming or on the fence about what to pick try this to get a feel (I was new to the whole setting up lighting thing when I purchased it.) Just thought I'd chime in on the good word...

Best of luck and happy cammingggg :D
