As much as I hate snow I wish that it would at least snow for Christmas. It's just been overcast, gloomy, cold, and rainy these past couple days. The snow can fuck off after Christmas though, lol.

Probably a pic thread.
& Given the law of probabilities it's most likely a stickied thread that is officially "The Oldest"...

A shortage of stones has pushed many females into "prostitution"
.
Adélie penguins build nests out of stones, and a shortage of stones has pushed many females into "prostitution": they mate with other males in exchange for stones. Some duplicitous females have started going through the elaborate courtship ritual to get the stones, and then running off before the male can mate. Both sexes also steal stones from their rivals' nests.

My daughter has a ton of toys, some that she has never removed from the boxes so I figured why not donate them to someone in need. I posted them on craigslist's free stuff section. I got ton of responses from creeps asking me if I was male or female and a few who seemed to think I was looking for a date. Finally someone responded saying struggling single parent, work hours had been cut, times were tough, and they have a 4 year old daughter at home who loves Barbie dolls. It was the first response that wasn't trying to figure out what gender I am or trying to get any personal info about me, and seemed genuine. I'm trying to get over the creepy vibe I got from the dude once I met up with him in person and gave him the Barbies. It's probably just me being weirded out and judging a book on the cover because he looked like the Freakshow character from Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. I hope his little girl enjoys the Barbies and that it makes her Christmas better.

This reminded me of something gross/funny that happened recently.
We gave away some furniture to a homeless old guy who was getting back on his feet.
I had to talk to him on the phone to co-ordinate the pickup of the item- he honestly tried to bring up something sexual on the phone because I made a casual offhand remark that he definitely mis-understood.
LUCKY for me my boyfriend and the helper that homeless guy found to get the item were present when he showed up so he acted right when I met him.
Kind of a depressing reminder that not all homeless people are "down on their luck" or "mentally ill"....some are the type to choose the dumber decisions to go with in life and end up with no place to go as a result.
Still glad he took that furniture, I hate seeing things go to waste.

Anyone else hear imaginary text message alerts or the phone ringing whenever you are showering, washing dishes, studying, doing laundry or some other mundane task? I mean when you think you heard a text message alert or phone call, and when you hurry up and check, nothing.

No but crowded airport is hilarious - when the standard text notification sounds everyone in a 30 foot radius frantically digs in their pockets or carry on bags or whatever, then goes back to sleepily plodding to their gate

I say sometimes because, more often than not, someone actually will interrupt me.

Aww, that's awesome! I wish we had such a thing in my home state. I've never even heard of this before until now. It'll be nice because I'm missing having animals around that I can pet and cuddle with. My current apartment's pet policy is ridiculous so I resorted to having fish but it's not the same. I can't pet or cuddle with my fish but I still love him.

Have you read the book, "Spindletop" by James Clark and Michael Halbouty?
https://www.amazon.com/Spindletop-James-Anthony-Clark/dp/0872017915
And here is more
"Before the Lucas Gusher blew in the big one, oil production in the states was fewer than 60 million barrels a year, with most of it coming from back east. A well was considered a good one if it produced 150 barrels a day. The Lucas Gusher produced an estimated 100,000 barrels a day. By 1902 Spindletop by itself was producing 20 percent of the U. S. market."

Unexpected product endorsement- I bought Shasta diet soda b/c in my region the other choices are way overpriced lately.
This delivers a JOLT of caffeine. Like I drink coffee all the time and this soda is more caffeinated than my average cup.
I stopped buying Shasta a long time ago but now I will re-start. Bang for the buck factor here.

Everyone check your receipts before you leave a store check out area....I got overcharged for something but it's doubtful I will get a refund b/c I didn't look at the receipt until days later and this store makes customers bag their own items so I just grabbed my receipt and left (people behind me, busy store.) I did email about it but it's a small amount of money so I'm not going to dwell on it. However it is always easier to take care of that sort of issue right when it happens.

From the cistern, around the well house, to the water trough. A few years ago we had the plumbing in the house (and some outside) replaced with pex which will not break if it freezes. Maybe every three years it gets below freezing and stays there more than 24 hours. The water trough can freeze over. This year, I bought a submersible heater, had to order online as the feed stores here don't carry them.
