Some people put up various colored lights for different holidays. I wish that was a bit more widespread, rather than Christmas lights year round. Then you’d have changing colors for each season/holiday. Shame fiber optics are so expensive, because they let you change light colors readily without requiring bulbs, LEDs, or fixtures to be swapped out. With those, people would probably be more apt to leaving lights installed and simply changing the colors to match the season or holiday, and only change out major fixtures (e.g., swap out Krampus… excuse me, I mean Santa and the reindeer for the Easter Bunny or whatever).

I always thought it would be great to have lights as a permanent installation (when the house if built even).

How about holograms.

My former roommate is such a jackass. He adopted a cat over the weekend - one that had been feral. The appeal to him was that it was mean and hated everything. “My spirit animal”, as he said.

And he named it Old Scratch. So punny :sarcastic

I am never using Rover again. Some girl went AWOL with my keys over the fall, and Rover refused to comp me the cost of changing the locks because they called it a "property damage" issue. Um, 24/7 unauthorized access to my home seems like a safety issue to me. And even for property damage issues, owners have the pay the first 250 on each claim.
Now, earlier in January some idiot girl LOST MY DOG. We were doing a meet and greet at the dog park, and instead of coming in the main dog park area like someone with a functioning brain would, she called my dog into the entrance gated area. And she had left the outer gate WIDE OPEN. WTF. I did get my dog back quickly, thank God, but he has no recall and I was really upset this. I reported it to Rover asap, because I was told they ban anyone from the app who loses a dog. It's been 6 weeks and they haven't done anything. I can see plainly that this idiot is still active on Rover, free to lose or kill other people's dogs and each time I contact Rover for an answer they send me their same BS template language.

I think the new guy hates us already. He fell asleep in the break room today, and that’s not something you want to do here. He has two plugs in each ear, for four of grab padlocks and put them through the plugs. So he was freaking out all day, because we all acted like they were locks we didn’t have keys to, though we got the keys and took them off at the final break for the day. Except for one guy… at first, he was like, “oh, shit… I didn’t know we were supposed to have keys to them”. It took us a few minutes to realize we were serious. So I told him to lay his head on the table, and I’d get it off of him. So I grabbed a pair of bolt cutters, and a large six inch grinder. I plugged the grinder in, hit the switch to activate it, and he looked up, saw it, and really began freaking out. So it took a good while to calm him down and convince it that I was joking. Then I broke the shackle with a pair of bolt cutters. I don’t think he’s terribly happy with us right now.

Not sure I really grasp all that (he had locks in his ears?) but lol sound wild.

Tomorrow, I need to buy kitchen trash bags, a length of chain, & some tiny light bulbs.
Someone might think I'm a serial killer.

The chain is to attach the cart I use at my storage place to my unit, so ppl won't grab it when I have leave for a few minutes (it's happened)

Also, I'm meeting my friend for lunch, & want to ask him to bring a couple trash bags for me but I feel silly asking that.

LOL, I already got 2 bags off the one neighbor in the little house in back.

January 2019 was rough. I had two deaths in the family ten days apart and it just went on from there. My life didn't get back to normal until around April. This year has started off completely different.

On Monday we were able to finally buy the house behind us for dirt cheap. It was run down and hadn't been lived in for seven years. Papers signed it's ours. We thought the next step was to get a demolition crew to come out and take it down. Apparently the city had already scheduled plus paid a crew two weeks ago for that. I came home two hours ago and it's all gone. We didn't have to pay for it!! I'm so happy and now I'm gonna go buy some more turtles.

We checked when we got our permit and there is nothing on the books for this property. Also we got details from the demolition company on how much the job was...far less than what we were expecting to pay independently. If it comes to that then it'll be okay. But I'm not gonna make a lot of noise trying to connect the dots for them. I'm just gonna enjoy the moment. ☺️

Went to have lunch with a couple people today, and the waiter at this restaurant went on this spiel about their cheese, how the restaurant owners have their own dairy farm, and they make their cheese here in North Carolina, and it's so wonderful, etc. Meanwhile, I'm from Wisconsin - where we're sort of a big deal when it comes to cheese - and I grew up on one of the first dairy farms in the nation whose dairy products were all certified organic. So.......

And, aside from that, what a "lucky" haul I ended up with. The equestrian centers previously used the little 'blister pack' radios that you could buy at department stores, sporting goods stores, etc. When I took over the radio net, I switched to Part 90 radios and changed the repeaters to use split DCS tones with non-standard octals which weren't available on the menus of the blister pack radios. When I set up the repeater and radio net at the west coast center, they wanted me to bring the old radios back with me, whereas I just wanted the center to dispose of them as they would... take them to electronics recycling, put them up for sale, whatever. I didn't want them to be my problem. So, one of the buildings, I have my own space pretty much... it's a large room, and I keep some items in there... my riding tack, an industrial Craftsman cabinet I keep my equestrian center uniforms in, a 40"x20" toolbox so I don't have to run back and forth between the equestrian center and the shop if I'm at the equestrian center and need tools, a cot and sleeping bag if I have to stay overnight, etc., plus I have a desk with a network computer in there. Which, they have a bunk house I could reserve a space for myself in (some of the equestrian center employees live far away, so they'll stay here while they work, then return home during their time off, and a couple are kids who wanted to get out of the house for whatever reason, so they just stay there). But I made my own little space there, because there's a kitchenette and refrigerator inside the building, plus that room is attached to a bathroom... I'm pretty sure it was intended just to be a shower, then someone got the idea to install a toilet and a sink in it, so the end result is that you can literally sit on the toilet, shower, and brush your teeth simultaneously. But it's a private bathroom, rather than the communal bathrooms in the bunkhouse (though the bunkhouse has two - a male and a female bathroom). The room itself is quite large, and a bunch of used it to store stuff that we didn't want to or weren't able to keep in the logged property room, and that's what I did with the old radios from both equestrian centers. But now they want to partition it into two spaces. I'll still have my own space, and enough to keep all of my stuff in (and still be able to roll that toolbox out of there when I need to), but the side that was being used for storage is being made into something else, so they were going through all the stuff in there to figure out what to do with it, and they of course happened across the radios, so they told me, "You dabble in radio, don't you? You should keep these. Do what you want with them". Just fucking great. So now, I'm stuck with these...

52705

The ones on the right are Midland GXT-325s. The two in the middle are Motorola MR-350Rs. Those are both 22 channel radios classed as FRS equipment and are only capable of dual simplex transmission. The one on the left is a Motorola MR-355R, which has the same capabilities as the 350R, but also has eight half duplex channels, and it classed as a GMRS radio.

Looking on Craigslist, EBay, LetGo, OfferUp, etc., radios which either were the 325s or 350Rs or were equivalent to them were all over those places... it looks like the Midlands go for around $25/pair, while the Motorola MRs go for betwee $40-50/pair, shipped. Which is all fine and dandy, except how am I going to sell them in a market which seems oversaturated? The 355Rs were much less common, but no serious GMRS radio user is going to buy them... the blister pack radios all transmit 1.3 - 1.5 watts PEP on channels 1 - 7 and 15 - 22 (as do the 355Rs in 15 - 22R) and .5 watts on channels 8 - 14 in narrow band... GMRS rules for licensed operators allow transmission at 5 watts PEP on channels 1 - 7 and 50 watts on channels 15 - 22 (including the repeater inputs when duplexing) in wide band, plus B-Tech and Wouxun are offering GMRS-specific handhelds which transmit at five watts in wideband specifically for GMRS, else users will either buy Part 90 commercial UHF radios and use those, or they'll buy the inexpensive BaoFeng radios (which are illegal for anything outside of ham radio use in the US, but enforcement isn't terribly strict).

So now I have 23 pairs of the 325s, 14 pairs of the 350Rs, and 34 pairs of the 355Rs, and no fucking idea what I'm going to do with them, unless an electronics recycling event comes up soon and I actually have the time and patience to drop these off there. I'm sure I can give a couple away to the neighborhood kids for them to play with, but not nearly all of them.

We already have an upstart business… a couple people from my ham and GMRS radio groups and I have an upstart business dealing exactly with that, which we bought the license and assets of another member who had started his own business and decided to retire 100%. Rentals of HTs and mobile radios, vehicle upfitting, and eventually we want to expand into setting up repeaters and such.

As is, we have a range of Part 90 commercial radios we rent out, and are licensed for all the business band itinerant frequencies and several licensed pairs in the VHF, UHF, and 700/800/900 MHz ranges. Which, as a service provider, we can let customers operate under our license and frequencies. As far as HT radios go, we have several Motorola and Kenwood commercial radios we rent out, as well as Project 25 capable Harris XG series radios, and we can set up simplex and half duplex radio nets, including conventional and LTR trunked radio nets. Whereas the legality of renting radios that use FRS (a license by rule service) is questionable, and it’s unappealing… you have no assurance of exclusivity with FRS. Listen to FRS/GMRS1, and you encounter a lot of kids using them as toys. Other frequencies, businesses too cheap to get their own license.

If I were to do something like that, it would make more sense to get an inexpensive Part 90 accepted radio (such as the BaoFeng BF-888S), load them with business band itinerant frequencies, and just plug in separate DPL tones for each group which rented them.

I work a vanilla job which is traditionally hard on a person’s body and I know I have a shelf life as a stripper. So I’m really hoping this works out.

For the record, I'm not a fan of that band, and really don't like the content of their material from the Barnes era. I just know of them and some of their "timeless classics".

Their material since Chris Barnes has gotten a bit milder and a little more bearable. I do like this one.
