^ The Mr. Rogers of cats! Oh my gosh, that cracked me up!

Randomness, so I saw this earlier on a different forum and some of the answers were hilarious.. if someone broke in to your house and stole what's on top of your fridge, what would they get? It would be a toaster oven, a crockpot, Gin-Gins, protein powder, and Natural Calm powder from me.

It'd be a Dutch cookie tin and healthy cereal that no one wants to eat. Please note there won't be any cookies in the tin.

Jazz (the orange tabby) is driving me nuts. He's been on a very strict prescription diet for ten years. He's gone through stubborn spells, but he's been especially stubborn lately. He races to his dish, sniffs the food, then gives me this sad look. I gave him some kibbles of dog food to see if his appetite was okay and he lit up like a little kid and wolfed it down. But I have to be very careful about what he eats.
I called his vet and got him a different kind of prescription food which he seems to like a little bit better.
Another problem is that Lily (windowsill agitator) will zip through the bedroom door if I open it an inch and hide under the bed, thinking she can steal Jazz's food later.

Older pets can be very fussy about their food. We've had our dog on a special diet for a few years now.

We recorded a cover of.Cough’s “Let It Bleed” over the weekend, mixed on some PC program, just to it out there as a teaser. It’s still in rough mix, and we’re waiting for the band’s approval to upload it, as this was just a jam session recording, and we never really intended to use it for anything. But it came out pretty well, so I’m hoping that since we’re not monetizing it, they’ll be alright with us doing that.

The original:

Hopefully our recording will be posted up soon.

The dog has been eating his poop so the vet gave us stuff to put on his food to make the poop taste bad.

I would have assumed the poop already tasted bad. Wouldn't the food and poop taste the same?

Dogs will eat poop to get nutritional value out of it. Weird I know but many of them scavenge for food anyways.....

Once is ok, Electra, but when you rented that billboard outside his house, that just crossed a line for me. Also dressing up as a Jet Blue stewardess, breaking into his house at 4am, and throwing those little packs of salted peanuts at him while repeatedly telling him to "fasten his seat belt". I think you can see how this might be disconcerting!

I read in Grit where someone reported giving his dog colloidal trace minerals which stopped it eating deer poop in three days. I think the nutritional approach is probably the most valid approach. Have been trying to find trace minerals.

My educated guess as a foodie- it's a completely weird combo of textures/flavors/colors. The same way some people are terrified of mole sauce (a Latin American food item) or freaked out by blue corn, a chunk of pineapple chilling on a pizza slice is just too offensive.

People are weird in general, food likes and dislikes are part of that weirdness.

It could be it is non traditional.

It could be it makes their poop taste bad.

Many years ago, I ordered a hamburger and it came with catsup on it. I always make a point of saying no catsup now. I had never heard of anyone putting catsup on a hamburger.

But… people might turn up their nose at broccoli on pizza, but never have I seen it met with the sort of fanatical zeal which pineapple on pizza receives. I can talk about the most morbid shit at work, make necrophilia jokes, etc., but the moment I suggest throwing a ‘Hawaiian” pizza into the mix during pizza day, then they really freak the fuck out.

I looked the stuff up. They only sell it to vets, and it is just monosodium glutamate and gluten. It appears MSG is about $600/ton or if you sell it in the grocery store is small packages about $2/ounce.

Well, fuck.

Jazz wasn't simply being fussy about his food. It's cancer. Advanced. I don't know how much time he has but it isn't much. He's basically the perfect cat- never misbehaves and has never so much as growled or hissed. He just wants to love everyone. He's thirteen, which I know is getting old for a cat, but he deserves a couple more good years at least.
He has lost his three brothers to cancer. I don't get it. It seems so cruel.

For now, Jazz seems like his usual, cuddly self. He bounds off his cat tower and hops up in my chair. This is so fucking unfair.

Or I can insist on ordering one of those when pizza day rolls around.

If I were a guy, I could be like, “Hey, you like pizza?”. Then when they said yes, I could be like, “How about giving me a pizza that ass?”.

Probably wouldn’t have much effect, though. The humor those guys have can get really homoerotic sometimes, especially among the ones who are veterans.

Jazz has perked up over the past few days. He had been staying in his carrier, acting lethargic. Now he's up and about, almost acting like his old self. He's still hard to feed, but I got a bunch of different flavors and sometimes I can get him to eat a good amount. After being on a strict prescription diet for ten years, I hope he's enjoying it. Valerean root seems to be helping and I wish I'd thought of it sooner.
I have no illusions that he's getting better, but if he can have a few more days in comfort, then I am grateful for that.

Yes, along with mirtazapine (which I've been on myself). His situation is about the same: no discomfort, still very alert, and quite cheerful. I don't know how he's doing it. He's been sitting on the windowsill and watching birds a lot.

When you're sitting there, multi-tasking, eating while feeding your baby and you get the strange feeling like someone's staring at you so you look up and there's a big orange cat in the window, looking in. It cracked me up because it was just sitting there staring at me, not blinking or anything like that Michael Rapaport cat.

So they decided to get more durable radios for the equestrian instructors than the BaoFeng ones we’d been using, which is good for me, because they bought some used Motorola HT750s from me/my business. That way, they’ll have better survivability if one of them falls off of a horse. Wish I had more Kenwood TK-360s available, though… the Motorolas are a bit of a pain in the ass to program.

So remember that if you’re planning on buying a two-way commercial radio… Kenwoods are easier to program than Motorolas.

53298

The one on the left is one of the BaoFengs we use. In bulk, you can get them for less than $10/each. On the right, a Motorola HT750, which those retailed for around $600 - $800 new, but now generally run about $50 or so if you buy them on EBay. Both are 16 channel UHF radios

Yes, I know I’m a dork. But I don’t really care.

Quite. Which is probably why I get along with them so well. Even guys, but women especially get a bit weirded out by the hobbies I take up. Why am I into two-way radio? I didn’t have a smart phone, television, etc. growing up and could only use the Internet at school or at the library. My neighbor however did ham radio, and my parents didn’t object to him letting me key up. I think I was maybe 6 or so and I made contact with someone in New Zealand, which to me was just the most fascinating thing ever. So I just upgraded my ham license from Technician to General Class, plus I hold a GMRS license, plus I’m licensed for a number of itinerant and non-itinerant business pool frequencies through this business we started. I never lost interest in it, though now I do more local communication on GMRS, 2 meter, and 75 centimeter bands. But now that this upgrade will expand my band privileges, I’m looking forward to sending and receiving some QSL cards.

Jazz is about the same. He was purring and giving out hugs just now. He's been hanging out in the living room, still showing no obvious signs of distress. I've been encouraging him to eat as much as I can without stressing him.

I continue my search for Necco Wafers but have been unsuccessful. The company posted a list of stores selling them and they seem to be mostly in the Midwest. Supposedly, they're at Walgreens, so I'll have to check. Fortunately, my benzo tapering has been going well. I've heard of people having hellish withdrawal symptoms. I am strictly sticking to my doctor's instructions, but am a bit nervous about going off completely.
