actually i always started at a new club on amateur nite (pretty much like a "free pass" nite). amateur nite can be amazinig at clubs cuz the guys love the fresh meat, girls who are new. plenty of times ive banked amazing on amateur nites. in my opinion if the club isn't good enough to garner some decent bucks on amateur nite then the club isn't worth working.
Ooooh, thanks for the amazing advice! I will give it a try. :D

I was (and am) a dancer first. I make way more money dancing, but it's more spread out over a shift (6-10 hours), whereas with camming, it's easy to make money more quickly, unless it's a weekend. For me, I can make about half what I do dancing in two hours of camming. With dancing, making $500 is spread out over about 10 hours. Plus, my club requires you to work a weekday for every weekend day that you work, which doubles the amount of time I spend working, and therefore cuts my average in half. We literally have almost nobody in the club until 10PM on a weekday. Even then, for the rest of the night, it's about 3-4 guys at a time in the club, usually locals that don't want to spend money. I like dancing because it's physical activity and it allows me to get out and be social in a way that camming doesn't allow. When it comes down to it, I prefer camming.

I definitely prefer dancing, I made lots more money for sure. I never had a problem being motivated to go to work, it was rare I missed any day of my schedule unless I was actually sick.
I miss the stage, I love to dance and it is great for exercise.
I can't find motivation to get on cam in free chat so I mostly do independent shows, which if I was single I would be homeless because I'm just not making enough with independent shows to pay my bills yet. I'm still trying to find that motivation to get in free chat and actually stick to a flat 6 hour schedule for about 5 days a week and I'm sure I will get used to it and make a good living eventually.
I miss my social life, when I was dancing, I had a huge social circle, I always had something planned with my friends, if I was bored there was no shortage of someone to call to go to the bar or somewhere with,. Now I barely leave the house and have no social circle except for my boyfriend, our roommate and a couple people that live around the area.
When I get back to the states, I am definitely going to start dancing (Stripping road trip, yea!) I am also going to cam while I dance as well and try to implement the two. I wish I could go back to dancing now but I can't yet for reasons I won't mention.

I def prefer and make more camming. I loved being on stage but it was really hard for me to come out of my shell when it came to approaching and interacting with customers. Plus I really, really, really hated having to chat guys up in order to get a dance. I just wanted them to hand over their money and be done. Not being able to come out of my shell hindered my money. I ended up quitting after like 6months because I was too dam recluse.
I don't have a problem being myself or hustling customers on cam....its 100x more easier. For some reason its always been easier for me to come out of my shell after I get comfortable. Which is probably why camming works for me so much better then dancing. If I had the personality for stripping I def would still be doing it along side camming.

You can't see a pretty face in dark club lighting.
This has really been bugging me lately. I love my face, but the clubs here are ridiculously dark. Even with heavy eye makeup, I feel like I become just a walking body.

That bothered me too.
The thing I like about camming over dancing is that you are mostly a face and a personality. Its about how different you are, rather than with dancing where it is about how similar or conventionally attractive you are. Even if customers prefer you to be different, hiring managers at clubs do not and will often turn you down, tell you to change your look (get thinner! get blonde or get implants! no butt!), or fire you. So dumb. Camming, the more different you look, the better. Curves translate well on cam too. At least with camming, you have creative control, and you can also control your schedule.
The thing I like about dancing over camming though is that its more about a sales pitch, flirting, and hustling. And its more glamourous and you get to exercise. Its also more anonymous and a more social activity.
But I do hate that dancing is trendy because it has really fucked up the money in most places. And I hate being around that much alcohol because I'm rarely in the mood to drink, or if I do, then its a short phase because I remember why I hate it (I think I might be allergic?).
They have their pros and cons.

I'm glad this thread's revived again. I just now started back camming, & for the longest have been trying to go back to dancing, am having a ton of anxiety over it. Plus I've been doing various temp vanilla jobs, that have been super draining. Last night was the closest I got, they said to come back another night::)
What I like better about dancing, is the 'cash in hand' right away.:)

Granted, Dancing in Portland is probably a different scene than many other places and I have only cammed a grand total of four or five times but I prefer camming to dancing so far. I came to realize that I simply do not have the disposition for dancing. The hustle always eluded me- probably because it felt so pushy which made me feel icky and try as I might I just couldn't develop the knack for it. For another, I could simply never pull an audience on the regular. I'm a decent looking girl- certainly better looking than several girls that made far more money. Being almost constantly overlooked or ignored, having guys jump up from my rack as soon as I walked on to the stage- it got to be demoralizing. I felt as if I was ugly or not worth looking at. It didn't help that I couldn't pull the good shifts anyway. On a few occasions I was outright harassed- Coins thrown on stage, dirty names. I've been followed to work. I felt so scared that I picked- up and brandished and sign post with nails protruding from it which I was fortunate enough to find on the side of the road. Once I was sexually assaulted up against a dumpster by a customer who Lured me out of the club by offering me gum and a band-aid for my knee. He gave me 100 dollars afterward so Im sure he thought that he had purchased my services. I'm a sensitive, thin skinned kind of girl. I'm honest and trusting and as such tend to regard everyone as being honest and trustworthy and I've suffered plenty for it.
Camming has lots of rejection inherent in it, just like dancing- guys will flit in and out of your room and I figure it's because they don't like what they see, or more likely aren't seeing what they want to see. It's the same thing but without seeing someone physically get up and leave, it's a lot easier to take.On cam, there are no looky-loos that stand just behind the rack where the view is just as good and they don't have to tip though I'm aware there are sites where this does occur. The hustle still eludes me and the crassness- "show tits", "show ass", and the MFing "BB" thing... It really gets me, as do the other near-constant assaults on the english language. This is far and away my worst quarrel with cam work but if that's the worst I have to deal with, I'd say that's a big step forward.
On the whole, I feel that Cam work affords a far greater sense of safety- both physical and emotional. I have no one to answer to and no cook, dj, bouncer, manager, etc who get's paid an actual WAGE with his hand in my pocket demanding a cut of my more often then not meagre earnings whether or not he performed any service for me. there's no chance of my getting fired for objecting to music I find insulting, being laughed at and then fired for being raped, Insulted and shamed for being slipped a roofie on my second shift of dancing ever by a customer who bought me a red bull. Camming carries zero risk of that.
If anyone is disrespectful or rude or just plain weird. I have the ability to tell them to go kick rocks and no one can say boo about it!
There are surely unscrupulous people on the supply as well as the consumer side who will do their level best to exploit the weaknesses- real or perceived of others but I find these things easier to ignore in the virtual sphere.
The only thing that I liked about dancing which I miss doing CamWork, (at least on my soon to be FORMER cam-site which forbids music due to copyright issues) is the ability to play and dance to music that I enjoy. I can take that or leave it. Also, the boredom and inertia are greater being as I'm alone in my quiet room rather than the more festive atmosphere of a bar full of people and music but again, the sense of autonomy and safety are WELL worth the trade-offs.

I miss the stage. My 'theme songs.' My yoga on stage. The pole. The counting cash after work. The afterparties. The haze of booze and pills and stupid amounts of income. I miss my hot pink lights that I paid the DJs to reserve for me ONLY. I miss a lot of it. But then I remember all the shit that accompanied dancing. It WAS NOT glamorous. At all.
I love this whole post, but especially this bit. This has really helped remind me that even when I miss certain things about dancing in general, that doesn't mean I miss dancing as a whole.

Sometimes the amount of money strippers make is tempting to me...but then I remember I can't walk in heels to save my life, let alone DANCE in them.
Camming let's me sit at home and people pay me to be myself. I just don't have the patience to try and live up to the stripper archetype. I barely know how to put on make up...I do whatever allows me to be the most genuine with people.

I just started camming consistently,so I made more dancing but I know if I put in more off cam work and cam more it can only eventually get better. I only worked thur-sat at the club and I always cashed out with atleast 5-600 and on a good night 1000.
The money was right there in your face and in hand in the club, and I worked at a club where we had a huge beautiful stage that I would rock.I never had a huge issue in the club with drama other than a ex friend who worked at a different club come too fight me whenever she got drunk. Our bouncers were awesome, managers even the dicks were not that bad...
But the negative was....I had too drive or catch a car pool too the club and it was 30-45 mins away and if it was in the winter sometimes because of the roads 2-3 hours...We would all crash most of the time at the Micro-tel or Embassy Suits...That i do miss...our slumber party's after work.I miss a lot of the girls I lost touch with and I miss the hook ups that dancers get...Going out?No worries if you are broke or don't feel like spending anything, your in vip.
Tons of gifts,One year I worked after I went out on New Years...I did 5 suits in a row with another dancer with these dudes that just wanted too hang out and watch Sports Center...Super cool guys from Missouri ,not grabby at all and had really good manners...I made 3800 and was tipped another 1000 :) then when we were thanking them when it was closing time one hugged me and slipped ANOTHER 500,about 3 dubs of kush and a 100 gift cert too Red Lobster :))))))
I was on the floor screaming from happyness!!!! My dads birthday was the next day and I was only working too take him out too eat and get him a small gift! I walked in flat broke from bills and christmas and was leaving with almost 4 grand! I tipped everyone really well and called it a week...I dont think that will happen with camming but a girl can dream!

I think it SEEMS that way but... With dancing, money is up and down. So it might LOOK like you have bigger days with dancing, but you also have smaller days with dancing that you can't do anything about. Like, you could make $1,000 one night, and then $100 the next night.
With camming, its pretty consistent IMO, because you can always log in later or earlier in the day to complete your goal. You might not, but you do have that option, and its not available with dancing. You would be more likely to do $550 one day and then $550 the next, and average exactly the same. The fact that you don't have many $1,000 days makes it SEEM like you'd make more dancing, but with dancing, you aren't able to come back later in the day to finish your goal.
They really are 2 different beasts though.

This this this!!!!! I cam during off season for my club and this is total truth. When I cam, I know that I can do x$/week and when I strip in season I know that I can make probably more than that in fewer days but it is so up and down that there's no real way of knowing. Plus, there's so many variables. Like, you can go into work and there's wayyy too many girls or something happens that REALLY throws you off your game and you're stuck in a club with no real way to fix it because there's so many external variables.
I hope that makes sense... I'm leaving stripping right now to go back to camming even though I know that I might be able to make the same amount stripping. I just can't deal with the up and down of stripping when I know that I can make it camming for sure.

I always thought I'd just be cutting my teeth on camming before stripping - I thought I needed to make sure my skin was thick enough for adult entertainment, and it felt way less scary to start at home.
Now I have no intention to switch gears. Camming has been good to me. There are a lot of things about it that kill my motivation to audition at a club - strapping myself into heels all night, dealing with overly-touchy customers, possibly getting rejected due to my not-so-toned tummy? No thanks. I love being able to monitor my feed and set my lighting to super flattering levels. I love never having to leave my bed. I love seeing the same sweetheart regulars and being able to ban anyone who gives me trouble. I love working whenever I like and taking days off on a whim.
I'd have to make an insane amount of money stripping to offset those benefits.

Interesting thread. I found out about camming because I wanted to be a stripper, but I don't have the body for it (I have a belly that in its heyday was frequently mistaken for a pregnancy...so...yeah). Love camming to pieces, but still have the occasional yearning to get on stage. Not likely to happen without a drastic change in diet and exercise...so not likely at all!

I like camming but I love dancing... IN A GOOD CLUB!
This. The thing about stripping IMO is that your experience is really going to depend completely on the club. You can have a completely different stripping experience in 2 clubs that are across the street from each other.
I'll take camming over stripping even in an amazing club any day though. Stripping is hard fucking work, it's very physical and you oftentimes have to chase your money down and suck it out of guys as opposed to camming where the guys just come to you and hand it over. I find the money to be pretty similar too but with camming the money is very consistent and I'm able to work way more hours camming than I can stripping.

I guess it depends on how well you keep secrets, but I don't think camming is necessarily more private (among people who matter -- you friends/family/boss/coworkers/etc) than stripping. I've only ever told 2 or 3 trusted friends that I was a stripper, and gossip broke out so that practically everyone I knew found out (lesson learned). I think the same is true of camming... yes, people can find you online, and you can be outed, but it's most likely going to happen because you told a friend who later told everyone else... and even then, strippers/camgirls who have been outed still manage to find vanilla careers and move on with their lives if they choose.

I liked dancing when it was good. I hit bigger numbers faster, but after camming for only a few weeks I prefer it 10x over dancing. I'll happily make a little less at first than ever be grabbed, touched, argue with guys over why I won't blow them, or have to smell any stank breath or b.o ever again!! I also see there's more long term earning potential in camming- I'm not exhausted all the time so I can do it longer. I don't have to drink in order to approach random people and put up with them. I never fear for my safety. You can only be at one club at a time and usually have to stay the entire shift or be penalized. You have to pay house fees and tips whether you make $ or not. In camming I can work numerous sites, come and go as I please, and there's no cut taken out of my pocket if I don't make anything. I will never go back!

I personally felt more violated and exposed while camming than i ever did dancing. Which doesn't seem to be the norm. Stripping for and grinding on dudes never felt intimate or personal to me. Whereas masturbating for a crowd in my bed definitely crossed my boundaries.
I firmly believe that 99% of sex workers have preferred niches in this industry. I don't meet many women who cross over frequently. Many of us dabble a bit but stick to a certain niche (dancing, camming, escorting, etc.).

^^You don't have to masturbate for a crowd, or even masturbate period, to cam. I don't even simulate masturbation on cam because like you it's just not my cup of tea. Meanwhile I do things on cam that a lot of vanilla girls would probably find to be unpalatable. Different strokes for different folks.

^Yeah, i know. That was just my experience. We've all had different experiences. This thread isn't about prescribing our experiences to others. We're just expressing our own camming vs dancing thoughts.
A lot of this depends on so many factors that are hard to track, too. No offense to me, but there is no way that i could make significant money on cam without doing more sexual things. Plenty of women can because their appearances or personalities translate into $$$ on cam. I'm not one of those women. Shrugs. We all have our niches.
Genoveve
11-05-2016, 10:20 PM
^^I definitely didn't mean to prescribe my experience to you and tell you to do what I do, I apologize. I just figured it was worth mentioning because I feel like something that deters a lot of girls from camming is the belief that there's only that one way to make money, when in reality there's infinite ways. I was one of those girls, when I first started camming I did your typical vanilla stuff; toy shows and such. It wasn't till like 2 or 3 years into it that I realized there's girls who only do the niches I liked and still made money so that's when I made the switch.

I'll gladly take camming over dancing ANY damn day. Ya the money dancing was good when I was super skinny & unhealthy but then it started to cease in time. I hated crowds & hated having to punish my body on a nightly basis with alcohol to overcome my shyness to make money off them. Camming to me is SO much more fun & relaxing as a job. At first I was shy about masturbating to ppl online live but i got over it when I realized that I could be ME & not have to get on some stupid diet or join a gym bc of my weight. I feel much more appreciated as a woman since I've started camming honestly. Did I fail to mention how liberating it is also with having NO schedule?! YES my fave aspect of it all & not having o answer to no body. Hands down camming wins my vote :)

I felt weird about this aspect of camming at first, but after I did it in my first show it was no longer a big deal for me. I pretty much fake it anyway, although I have had some good times on cam lol! It was very much like my first time stripping. I was so worried about being naked in front of other people, but after the clothes came off once I was over it.
I've heard similar things from my dancer friends when I told them what I'm doing now. Of course the best hustlers (stripping) I know are extreme extroverts. They don't seem to mind dealing with people in person so much and wouldn't enjoy being home alone in front of a laptop all day. They love nightlife, feeding off the crowd. I'm very introverted with social anxiety so that's probably another reason I prefer camming. That said, I'm very thankful for my experience stripping as many of the skills have transferred well to cam. I feel like I have a leg up already knowing how to flirt, sell and smell bullshit from a mile away.

Yes!! Being able to work anywhere, anytime, and not having to be stick-thin makes camming very appealing to me. I also know that if I ever get my breast implants removed, camming will be far more accepting of my naturally flat-chested, pear-shaped self than stripping.
Also, I'm a horrible stage dancer. I can do lapdances, but put me on a stage and I'm just going to pose cutely near and around the pole until my time is up.
The biggest downside I have found to camming is that it makes me feel like a hermit. I've become a pretty sociable introvert, so while the strip club was overwhelming at times, it gave me a built-in social life... with camming, I have to really go out of my way to be social.

I feel safer & hotter camming than dancing as a whole. i love how I don't need to tslk to a bouncer or a mngr regarding work or my performance. I'm a dancer and I'm thinking of camming but I'm wondering about the pay. I read a lot of threads but people aren't really explicit about how much they make.
I make $800-1000 a night dancing in the summer. I make $400-700 on other slow season nights
What is camming like? Do you think the money would be similar? What's your experience if you danced and cam?
I read about girls making $300 dancing and camming they make a lot more. Well, Id be pretty upset making under $500 a night tbh.
How about people screen grabbing your show? How do you girls deal with that?

I do both. I go back and forth between which one I prefer. What I like about cam is that it's been pretty consistent for me. When I log on I know I'll make money unless it happens to be a really off night. I can be myself and don't have to hustle guys to spend like I do in the club. At the strip club, I have to force myself to be more outgoing, approach guys, I always end up drinking too much, and the money can be bit or miss. Some nights there could be 30-40 girls working and very few customers so then I'm hoping I get lucky. And some nights I do get lucky and do very well and could make $1k or more... lately I've been camming more but when the club seems to pick up more, I will probably focus on stripping more but then I can always log on cam for a couple hours here and there for some extra money. I'm happy doing both for now. I also agree with another poster that cam work seems to have more longevity as a career. I'm 31, and I think I could probably dance another 5 years or so but I could probably still make money on cam into my 40s if I want.
