Thank you SO much Twisted Princess!!! I am planning on getting a custom made computer, and know I know exactly what to ask for. I can not thank you enough!!!!

You're welcome!

And heads up to everyone else: I am actively back on the forum so I will be keeping an eye on this thread again for you all. <3

After 2 years from my latest purchase of i7 laptop with great specs (only regret: I didnt't get a 17''!) I'm finally ready to get a powerful desktop. I'm always using a cooling pad when camming (since the latest Streamate encoder upgrades) and editing but lately is getting slower with clips and I don't want to fuck it up and waste time.
So I'd love to hear some pointers (I bookmarked the first super useful post of this thread) how about the video card?
My use will be for video rendering and camming (I'd still prefer to cam mostly on my laptop so it's secondary I guess, but still important!)

Can anyone recommend me a very LIGHT and CHEAP laptop that can handle editing clips for Clips4Sale and etc? I am planning to travel for a couple months in South America with my BFF next year. So, I need a laptop for clips to keep make some money while traveling. I need something that is great for backpacking! :)

oh and no camming on this laptop. Can't cam in hostels. haha

I am seriously considering this desktop for camming. What do you think?

Also, I have always used Apple computers and never worried about security. Anyone have recommendations for virus, etc. protection?

That was a quick reply, thanks!
Notebook Dell Vostro V14T-5470-A50
Notebook HP Pavilion 14-v065br

The prices are almost the same, around 850 dollars here in my country.

I've ordered a computer from computerplanet.co.uk

9 working days estimate. Still have 7 working days to go! Can't wait until it's here. Is it here yet? How about now!? LOL

Here's the specs, and the case I've chosen:

Hello everyone,

I am forced to upgrade my laptop because I squirted all over it and now it doesn't work... So what I'm wondering is the minimum requirements (specs) for splitcamming, between AW (free chat on) and SM let's say? I am on a budget so I'll have to go for the minimum as much as I can, and it has to be a laptop.
My old one would heat up and use 70% of CPU when I tried to run the encoder and JCI at the same time and I of course don't want my new laptop to do that

I had a techy friend stare at this refurb as it seems to fill the requirements listed at the begining of this thread http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/product_detail/15535/Acer-Aspire-Quad-Core-Intel-2-16GHz-8GB-1TB-15-6-Laptop-Win-8-1/ could anyone else have a quick look and see what they think? I've always used Mac's and want to get a PC so I can run more/other sites.

Thanks for any advice.... I'm trying to figure out why it's so cheap.

Otherwise might get my friend to do a custom build.

My computer can't run the encoder. Would it be worth it to rent a computer from No Compromise Gaming at $225 a month for 18 months or just to keep saving up?

No. If you rent for 18 months at $225 you will spend $4,050. If you want a $2,000 laptop, it would be a really nice laptop at that allowance, just save $225 for 9 months.

It's so cheap because the processor is garbage. Here's a tip for those that aren't technically inclined: The first thing you wanna do when shopping for a computer for camming is see how well the processor does on benchmarks. This is a great site for that: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/. That processor in that laptop scored 1935, which is abysmal. I'd recommend not getting anything lower than 5,000, preferably closer to 10,000 if you wanna do a lot of splitcamming or stream in really high quality. Mine scores around 12,000 for comparison.

UK ladies - where do you shop for your PCs and/or parts?

I'm torn between building one and buying one off-the-shelf. Problem I have is that I don't like the look of the ones that have the better specs, and the ones I DO like the look of need to be upgraded anyway to get the specs I want/need.

I'm not in the UK, but the two sites I use apparently have UK versions. I build all my own systems and get the basic parts from NewEgg, but if someone wanted to get one pre-built I usually recommend CyberPower, they're legit.

Holy moly! My current PC's CPU's mark there is 1886 and thought it was heaven! I just 'upgraded' from a Pentium 4 with a single core CPU ranking around 488 on their chart. Thankfully, both PC's were hand-me-downs so I can't exactly complain. Guess I need to put in more hours and finally upgrade to something worth talking about, meanwhile I walk away in shame :))

I think I'll hear everybody laughing but... Do you think that I might splitcam Imlive (free chat) and Camcontacts (paid chat only), for example, with my CPU [Core2 Duo 2.66 Ghz] and RAM [4Gb]? For now? I tried splitting them and the stream looked fine, but only because I haven't had a single session on Camcontacts so far. I'm afraid the quality would drop dramatically in that case before I reach to close the Imlive video. Well, guess the answer's in the question :)

Please, don't even try. That CPU isn't even capable of handling a decent quality feed on ONE site lol. My ROUTER actually has a faster CPU than that :D

Thank you Tiffany! It's quite okay though for Imlive only. (might help the fact that my webcam isn't super brill either - Lifecam HD3000). If I managed with the older one for almost an year.... but back then, it only could've run Imlive and Winamp tops, with the CPU maxed. Opened an Youtube tab and boom, system freeze. Now I don't have to bother :) But still want to get something better, gah!!!! Obviously I'd love a brand new system, or at least a laptop. But saving is problematic these days, with rent and some late bills I really need to pay already. The next best thing I can come close to has the following config: DELL LATITUDE E6410 Core i5 540M (CPUbenchmark score 2430) 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3 (second hand laptop), very cheap. I'm not computer savvy like you, but I assume it is cheap because the CPU is pretty old. Would you recommend buying that and splitting between that and my current PC? Or try saving for a new one without question?
I envy your router :) :D
English - not my native language, sorry for any weird phrasal construction.
In fact, I think I wish for the cheapest basic PC or laptop (I'd really wish one because I want to move around) configuration which would let me split two sites, but I'm sure there's something related to this in this topic so *takes a big breath* back to reading it.

You get out of things what you put into them. If you cam as a 2nd or 3rd source of income, just to buy shoes with, sure, use a gameboy. But if camming is your main source of income? I mean, you don't see professional mechanics working with a $300 tool set they got at Kmart, so why should we as professional camgirls use outdated cams and computers?

Ok, on a serious note now: I need to start somewhere, don't I? I started with crappy equipment, I'm still there and, for the moment, I can't afford an Alienware. There are no PC rentals around my small city (heck, I don't even think there are such places in my whole country), no one to borrow one from, I am serious about this job and, although I have a fulltime job, that horrority pays me monthly what some of you girls make in a day and I need to supplement my income somehow. It's a vicious circle: can't quit my job to cam fulltime because I don't have the equipment and experience and some future job security, can't quit camming because I don't make enough at my job. Believe me, I didn't start camming just to buy shoes.
I kindly asked for some advice so I can try and work better with what I have right now. Before that I knew I need an airplane of a PC to work this job, and one of my goals was to save for one. Nah, guess I should quit, right? Ok.

You asked a question, I answered, no reason to get snippy. Work with what you can until you can afford the right tools, but spending money on inadequate stopgap measures in the meantime seems unwise, that's all.

Could someone please advise?

This is what I am currently camming from: AMD A8 5550M APU 2.10GHZ 8 gb Ram. Will not handle SM's old highest specs so I know this will not handle the new HD720 specs.

SOOO...I found this one (at a local place that I have credit, probably cheaper out there but...) since I have the ability to charge this one...IF its good enough I wanted to get it instead of outright paying cash that I do not have budgeted as spendable at the moment....

ASUS ROG GL551JW-DS71 15.6 inch FHD gaming laptop, NVIDIA Ge Force GTX 960 M...

Im thinking get it, because it has to be better than this one...but the comments on Amazon were 70/30 mixed so I thought I would come here and ask for help first. Techy girls..what do you think?

I don't know how much your local place is charging, but TigerDirect has that for $1049.99 +tax. But, after reading the Amazon reviews, it just seems like the people that left those happened to have bad luck. Especially since most of the complaints were all about different things. If the majority of the complaints/low ratings were for the same issue I would be worried, but if you get a warranty plan for 2 or 3 years (usually an extra $200) any of those issues are covered.

I haven't been on SM in a while and can't remember where to find their computer system minimum requirements, but I don't believe there would be an issue running SM on this system. Especially if you aren't split camming.

I actually ordered the G751JL last week. From what I can tell they are very similar. Once I get it I'm going to load Win10 and WoW to try it out. I can let you know how I like it.

That ROG is a solid choice, albeit a bit overpriced for what you get in general. If you have credit you can use for it, I'd say go for it.

Possibly, but not directly. In general, video cards DECODE video, not ENCODE it, so they're not really utilized for camming. As long as you have a decent card that supports your needs, that's fine. IE: I have a pretty high-end video card, because I run multiple monitors at high resolutions. Indirectly that relates to my camming because I can fit more things on the screen, but it doesn't directly effect it.

SweetGAPeach, I got my laptop in. Soon as I got it I immediately upgraded to Windows 10. Got it all configured so it wasn't sharing everything with everyone, and she is beautiful! There was slight lag when opening online based programs, but having it wired directly to the ethernet cord solved any hiccuping. That was the only problem I have had so far.

TiffanyTracy's assessment that it is overpriced for just camming is accurate. Whenever I computer shop, I do it with gaming requirements in mind. A lot of times I forget that most ladies only work on them. However, if you are going to be using it for multiple jobs (split-camming, filming, editing), it is my opinion, that the laptop would be useful for a long time while staying at or above minimum requirements you would need. Just my two cents.

Laptops from this brand/company are usually awesome and last forever. My husband has had one for years and it has outlasted his namebrand, super fancy, Alienware laptop. Regular camgirl maintenance has kept it running years longer than the last even though we have toddlers manhandling it once in a while.

^^Thanks you! I do not game at all. I did however get the computer yesterday...and I am soo impressed. I did not upgrade to windows 10, scared to jinx myself...will do it on shark week.

Now. I DO agree that I was way over charged, but like I said I had credit there so I got it. I do not split cam, lol film, or edit yet. But this is the difference in the two...with the lowest possible SM settings, my AMD A8 would use 85%+ of the CPU usage. With the one I got, I used 2500 bitrate with the 1280*720 settings for three hours last night and only used 34% CPU usage the entire night. I only got booted from a paid show once. And I think it made a HUGE difference in my stream. I have always paid for the extra fast XFINITY blast pack, or whatever, over 20 upload. Have had the package camming for almost four years now.

I am tickled with camming again. That is all :)

Need some opinions here....I have not cammed in the last 2 weeks due to going to Florida and shark week but Ive been checking the forums. I cam mainly on SM and I was having lower than normal traffic and glitches before I went on vacation and noticed there are still some glitches just from seeing what everyone else is posting. I know I seen somewhere about buying a gaming computer because of the new encoder settings coming out soon. I don't have a gaming computer but I just bought my laptop last year and here is the specs on it :

HP ENVY 17-j100 Notebook PC series

My processor is : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHZ 2.40 GHZ

Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB

64-bit operating system, x64 based processor

Are we going to need a gaming computer once the new settings for the encoder comes out? If so, what kind should we get? Or will the computer I have right now be ok till I can save the money to get a gaming computer? Just curious cause I will be going to best buy today to look at computers and if we need a gaming computer now I want to be shopping around.

Aurora14
08-18-2015, 01:10 PM
You don't/ won't need a gaming computer. The big reason most gaming computers have higher costs is that they have more CPU and graphics needs. Most gaming systems need to process so much more information all at once than they used to, and people like nice graphics or effects. That's why their prices are usually stupid. Most gamers get something beefier than they currently need in hopes it can keep ahead of games releasing and updating/patching for a while.

As long as a computer has:
Quad core i7 processor (better for encoding video, running multiple programs)
8gb DDR3 RAM (the more RAM your PC has, the less often it needs to load data from the hard drive)
1TB hard drives are super common now, I'm usually surprised when it is smaller
Do not use "integrated video", it will eat up your RAM

That's the basics I can think of off the top of my head. When in doubt, go to the site you are working, look up the minimum operating requirements, and upgrade those.

If you are a model that does a lot of her own editing and production with some serious equipment, that's when there's a point to getting a higher end graphics card. I run photoshop, firefox with lots of tabs, have video streaming sometimes, have steam open, among some other things.

I would spend no more than $200 on a graphics card for this.

The fucking dog broke my camming laptop. Can anyone recommend offhand a nice laptop find or two for $500-$1000? If it's not too much work, of course. I know I need to do my own research, but if there's any "latest and greatest" ya'll like in that price range, I'd appreciate the advice!

Doing some upgrades on my PC in the interim before I go and get a laptop which is what I actually want for camming because its more versatile. Buying a 4th gen quad core i7 processor chip and getting 4 more gbs of RAM (so I'll have 8 gbs in total). I have a decent graphics card, would I need to get another one? Everything else is sorted in terms of storage etc. I might get an SSD at a later stage.

Just want to know if the processor and increased RAM will help? I don't plan on split camming (yet) and this solution is just temporary for my desktop, but will that see me through for the time being or do I need to up specs in some other area too?

LolaBohemia

Get 16gbs of ram. It's worth it to pay a little more. Corsair is a good brand.
Get the SSD now. If you are amping your PC for speed an SSD does just that.
What graphics card do you have? I do design work and game so mine was important for those reasons but again, no need to spend over $200 on a graphics card.
Processor and 16GB of ram will help along with going ahead and investing in the SSD.

^^ I don't do anything design or game related haha, my graphics card is just kinda there haha. I'd need a new motherboard to fit 16gbs, can i just use the 8 in the meantime? Also with regards to the SSD, I don't think there is space for it at the moment in my case either. i know a need a whole new setup, but since I am transferring to a laptop soon primarily I kinda just wanted the extra RAM and processor so I could handle the new SM settings among other things. Also money-wise I can start there for now, so I just need to know if it will work or if I should just rather save for the laptop. I really want a slightly better stream so the laptop cash can come in a bit faster lol

I wasn't sure where to post. But here looks pretty good to me. I have a question: do you girls have 2 diffrent laptops/pcs for camming/personal life? I kind of squirted on my old i7 asus. I wiped it off quickly but it somehow still succed to break my keyboard. Some stupid asshole service has put a new keyboard but messed up everything inside the laptop (2 usbs don't evan work anymore & i checked - they can fix it back anymore). Anyway, if something else happenes to my laptop my mistake - it's practically dead. And i have this amazing idea of buying a new one on black friday lol (to be cautious and buy it before the old one breaks - at a great deal too LOL). But I always wanted to own a macbook. And macbooks don't get well with camming.

Here are my questions: do you girls think that having a 2 in 1 (camming and personal life) laptop is alright ? And which windows laptop brand do you think is the best (cutomer service, their service - warantty & all that) ? Besides Asus. Their service in general sucks big time.

Hello girls! thi shas been a very helpful thread, I have read, researched, got headaches and finally I think I will be getting this laptop: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T7XRH2A/ref=psdc_565108_t2_B00XQXZ42C the ASUS ROG GL551JW-DS71 15.6-Inch.

Ive seen that other people where interested in it and I was wondering if soemone got it, I happen to have $300 on amazon, my budget was $1000 at most on a new laptop, im not looking for THE laptop, just one a bit better than my acyual sony vaio ( that was a gift) and gets overheated, cant handle too much at the same time, is an i3, basically it works because the gods of camming are good (and I stream on MFC) aaanyway, I just wanted to know if anyone has any opinions on this laptop, any thought of a better option on another model where to put my money, any bad experiences with ASUS, (ive only owned HP & sony)
thanks and I hope somebody replies soon I have to buy it ASAP (this laptop has already failed me)

Bests,

I'm on the hunt for a new desktop for my office. I love my laptop (it's a year old) but the 17" screen isn't big enough and I want more ram (I have 16GB, 64-bit, 2.40GHZ and an i-7) but I feel like it's not giving me what I want in terms of split camming. I want something lightning fast, big, and good for multimedia, uploading, multiple tabs, serial splitting (like 5 free chat sites), etc. I'm going to switch back to my old ISP provider eventually because I really want the fastest speeds possible as I'm only getting an upload of about 5.06 :/ I need moarrrrr! HALPPPPPPPP!!! Any suggestions? TIA!

Posting here because I'm not quite sure where else to. I'm getting a new laptop because I cannot really continue on with what I have. It's OS is windows 8.1. I'm freaking out because I know there are problems with it and camming, but sadly no new tech comes with Windows 7 or the option to downgrade anymore...what is 8.1 or ever 10 like? Can I cam successfully with it?

I've decided to get a 27" All-In-One since I'm getting a floating desk and getting rid of my bulky one. That will allow me to wheel my chair and not worry about the tower sticking out, etc. Now I just need to worry about the bulky studio lights.

How important is the Graphics Card in relation to camming? I'm building my own PC and my budget is £950 (Upgrading from a 6 year old laptop - so decided to go all out.) I'm using PCSpecialist on-line (UK). At the moment I'm sitting comfortably at £943, but I'm totally unsure about what to select when it comes to the Graphics Card. I've kept it at, Integrated Graphics Accelerator, which is included in the price, but I'm not sure if it'll be sufficient enough? The cheapest upgrade (PNY QUADRO K420 - 1GB), flips my price to £1052 and I'm not even sure if paying that extra £109 is worth it? I won't be watching DVDs or gaming, the PC will be for camming alone. I'd also like a computer wizz to check my stats to see if everything is on point.

My current specs selections are:

Case - CORSAIR CARBIDE SERIES™ 200R COMPACT GAMING CASE (£48 - The cheapest case with 3 fans.)
Processor (CPU) - Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-4790k (4.0GHz) 8MB Cache
Motherboard - ASUS® Z97-E: ATX, USB3.0, SATA 6GB/S, SLi, XFIRE
Memory (RAM) - 16GB Kingston DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card - INTEGRATED GRAPHICS ACCELERATOR (GPU) (included)
1st Hard Disk - 2TB 3.5" SEAGATE SSHD, 7200 RPM (64MB + 8GB SSD)
Power Supply - CORSAIR 350W VS SERIES™ VS-350 POWER SUPPLY (included)
Processor Cooling - Super Quiet Titan DragonFly Heatpipe Intel CPU Cooler (£19)
Thermal Paste - STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING (included)
Sound Card - ONBOARD 8 CHANNEL (7.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD) (inclded)
Wireless/Wired Networking - 2 x ONBOARD 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORTS (included)

I upgraded both my to Win 10. I actually like it. The only issue I've had is sometimes my internet won't connect. I have to reconnect manually or restart my computer and then it's fine. But that could be a problem with my laptop because it only happens on my older laptop and not my new one. There are some security precautions you will want to take and they are detailed here https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?202086-Thoughts-on-Windows-10&highlight=windows.

^^ thank you!! Yea sadly I am aware of the security risks, which is why this new computer will have only camming stuff on and no social media at all or anything else.

Does anyone cam with a laptop 8gb i5 5200U Processor. This is the computer I currently use on stream ate and wondering if it can't handle the SM encoder? Is this not powerful enough for camming?

I think I'm finally ready to buy a laptop for camming. I'm mainly going to use it for SM but I might use it for split-camming on it as well. I'm looking at the MSI Computer G Series GS60 Ghost Pro-002 and SAGER NP7258. I'm leaning towards the MSI because its lighter but I'm not sure. I'm ultra scared of getting a laptop and having to buy a new one in 2 years because SM decided to change their settings. I want to go with the one that has the best specs. Which do you guys think is best? (aka which one can handle new streaming settings if SM decides to throw a new one at us in the near future?)

I'm so glad to have found this thread. I was searching and searching for it, using the terms "laptop thread." Lol. Out of curiosity, how often do y'all replace your laptops? Is there a typical frequency for cam girls to replace their laptops? I've had my Toshiba Satellite P875-S7102 for a couple years. Considering getting a new one once my federal refund gets here.
