I get a new one every year. Planning to film and edit more this year so the rog 551 is looking a solid choice. So much more expensive over here though :(

As soon as my federal refund gets here (may be here tomorrow...got my state refund on Jan. 25), I'm getting a new Toshiba laptop with an i7 processor. I've been very pleased with Toshiba laptops that I've used, so I'm gonna keep going with Toshiba. :) I told my son that whenever I get my new laptop, I'll let him have this one. He's very excited. LOL.

I'm probably getting this one.

I have a question though. Why does that one^ not say anything about having solid state drive (it appears to be the better of the two laptops), yet this second one below does have solid state drive? This second one also has less RAM, which is another reason I'm aiming for that first one I linked. I've been reading that it's better to get SSD vs. hard drive.

I'm looking for a new laptop to use for working on streamate. I think I might buy a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 laptop.

I'm not tech savvy at all, but I think it looks like it meets all the minimum requirements for SM. It's I7, has 8 GB memory, and has 1 TB hard drive.

I've attatched an image with all the computer specs. Could someone who's more tech savvy please tell me if this looks like a good laptop?

And I'm wondering if anyone knows if paying for the Dell extended warranty would be worth it?

Thanks :)

I haven't been on ImLive since I got it, but I will let you know. I do wanna start getting back into the Clips4Sale stuff too, so I'll also let you know how that goes, as far as the ease and speed of video uploading and all. I'm not too thrilled, though, about how long it sometimes takes for webpages to respond/open. I'm not sure if it's because there are several of us in the house on the internet at the same time or what. But I do like how fast I'm at the main screen after pressing the power button, and the fact that I can log on using a 4-digit PIN rather than a password. I'm excited to have my first-ever touch screen laptop though! Lol.

I overheard this conversation between my son and my nephew:

My 12-year old son: "My mom got a new laptop with a touchscreen!"
My 7-year old nephew: "It has a touchscreen? Cool!"

LOL.

Anyone have experience with this ASUS ROG make? I gave my techy BF a list of all the things ya'll said a perfect laptop should have and we came up with this after a couple wks of looking and going back and forth on it. I'm pretty sure i'll be ordering this today or tmrw, unless one of u tell me it sucks! I know it seems a bit jacked up for what I may actually need for camming, but i'm in school too and want to use it for both. BF will likely use it a lot too. So lots of streaming, photo edits, video editing (something that was impossible on my shit 2008 macbook-YAY $$$), school projects. Basically it has to do it all and do it well. Some of the negative reviews scare me but then again it does a lot for the price... Let me know if any of u have experience w/ this model. I plan to order the cheaper version w/ 2GB VRAM and purchase SSD separately to install myself, leaving the total just shy of $1100.

I'm trying to decide between 2 Dell laptops... I think they both meet streamates minimum requirements for streaming in HD720. They are both I7 quad cores; one has 8gb memory and is non-touch. The other has 16 gb memory, a touch screen, and some "revolutionary cooling technology."

I'm leaning towards the cheaper one... It's about 900$ vs 1300$. I'm guessing the 8gb should be enough. I'm just working on streamate right now. Eventually I might try other sites and split camming.

Does anyone know, does the cheaper one with 8GB sound good for my needs? I'm hoping my new laptop will last me for a few years.

Thanks :)

Twitch. You do twitch world of war craft streams

Twitch is a live stream gamer metwork where they perform live playing games. And require an beefy Internet connection just like us.

They tend to be full 1080p. Hell they even work for tips like us.

Your better off with a desktop. It will be cheaper for tje same spec and run cooler. If you need to upgrade its a few parts not a whole new machine.

Hubbies been writing tutorials on how to do bits like add ram and stuff as its very easy to do on desktop. Where as on a laptop you have to either take it semi apart. To get to the ports. Or they will have a locked down bios that wont allow you to go past a point.

I know that if it was me, I would prefer the 16 GB one with the touch screen. :) More RAM is great, plus I love finally having a touch screen laptop! If you can afford it, I'd say go for the 16 GB one.

This is what I was considering along with the (better but louder) msi ghost pro. It's pretty ideal for camming. In the end I selected my own components so i got the better graphics and bigger memory as i edit video as well but otherwise I'd have gone for one of those.

Hi y'all! I'm not techy what so ever, and I was hoping for some guidance.

I have been camming for years with my macbook pro. It has worked well for me, but I have only been camming on one site. Now I feel like I would like to branch out and try camming on 2 sites at the same time. I tried doing IF & SM at once but my video was terrible and everything just seemed to lag. I was looking at a desktop computer on amazon, and was hoping for your advice. Do you think this would be a good fit for working more than one site and in high quality? Also I have really good internet speed and upload.

I really appreciate any help!!

Hello,

I'm undecided between 2 refurbished laptops (I'm not from US so I'm not buying from Amazon and the specs are not completly the same as on the links):

-2 years old Lenovo Ideapad Z510, i7 4702MQ, 16 GB RAM,... , its the one from the link:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-Z510-15-6-inch-Laptop-i7-4702MQ/dp/B00HR6TYZC (the hard drive and ram is different by "my" model, its 500GB HDD and 8 GB SDD instad of 1 TB)

-a couple of months old HP Pavilion 15 Gaming, i7 6700HQ, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD,...

http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-15-ak010nr-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B015GF557G/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463175153&sr=1-1&keywords=HP+Pavilion+15+Gaming (it has 16 GB of RAM instead of 8)

The price difference is ~150 eur. Should I go for HP even though its more expensive? Its a more recent model and processor is from the last generation and a bit more powerful+ it has a matt screen and Lenovo has a glossy one, which I don't like. Also I've read reviews and a lot of people seemed to have battery and overheating issues with Z510, even though I know that HP in general also isn't that reliable...So I'm completely lost here. Any experiences with these brands or refurbished laptops?

My computer can't run the encoder. Would it be worth it to rent a computer from No Compromise Gaming at $225 a month for 18 months or just to keep saving up?

If using the encoder enables you to earn more, then yes.- opportunity cost. Rent the computer - is there a 90 days same as cash plan? Can you end the contract early?

I recently worked for a finance and leasing company for business equipment. Although I am unsure of the exact details (wish Melanie was still here), these businesses were able to write off the cost of the leased equipment and enjoyed other tax benefits as a result.

Do you have a CPA to go to for planing?

Hey everyone well unfortunately last night my laptop finally cramped out. The hard drive was corrupted even though I just replaced it in may, I reset my computer and now I don't have an operating system installed and I can't get it installed on a USB or disk right now.

I also can't sit around and lose time not being able to work.

I'm looking as seeing some laptops are only like $250 and I think it's time I just get a new one and worry about this laptop later and use it as a back up so this never happens to me again.

This is so stressful!!! Ugh! Right when I started getting into the groove of working every single day :(

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for while shopping like GB,HDD, brands that are usually better, any direct links to laptops or pcs that are being sold now at a good price

Stores that are near me are Walmart and BJ's, but I have Amazon prime so I can do 2 day or one day shipping to get a better deal.

I am in a rush and need to place an order or pick one up tonight, but I also don't want to waste my money on a crappie laptop or PC while I am in a panic.

Thanks for the help girls!

You need to check the laptop and make sure they have the specs most cam sites require. A typical cheap laptop wont work on a site like SM.

So I posted before that my laptop broke last night and I need to buy a new PC to work. I am thinking about buying one of these, can anyone tell me if these are good for camming and or give me links to other good examples?

Also I am thinking of using my TV as a monitor for now, it has HDMi and is 32" I feel like it's better to use it for now just to cut some cost on having to buy a monitor with the PC

Thats crazy! Well if you still want it you can always get a USB adapter. Sometime the built in ones suck anyways. Okay, girls, I have been reading trough posts and I come with my issue.
My computer (that it was bomb, 4 years ago, when I built it), decided it's too old to keep up with the actual sites requirements.
I have an Intel Core I7 3770k, 3,80 GHz, 12 GB of RAM (I used to have 8, but when I saw that the CPU goes suddenly to 80% with 3 sites in HD, streaming, I decided to add some RAM memory), SSD hard disk, NVIDIA GeForect GTX 1 GB graphics card .
Obviously, the extra RAM memory isn't helping. My CPU is the same.
When I try to split Jasmin and Streamate in same time, it's over. The CPU goes up to 90% without a bat of lash :))
So, I keep streamate and ifriends and the CPU stays in 50-70%. Or Jasmin and Ifriends, is same result.
I'd like to splitcam on 5 sites, if possible (3 with free and 2 without free).
*
*
*
*
Conclusion: I need to get a new desktop computer. My budget is about $1200+ . I don't buy it pre-built. I am going to buy my own pieces and build it myself. My actual computer, costed the same like 4 years ago and it served me well.
It still does serve well, if I don't spread myself thin on many sites, but that's it. I will say good bye to it and sell it.

What exactly should I look to get, to have a lower CPU with all theese sites requirements? The processor? The video graphics card?
I've read that Intel Core i7 6700k is the best choice for processor. There are so many combinations, lol.
The RAM, obivously will be 16 GB. It will obivously have a SSD.
MY concern is the processor and the graphics card. I don't know exactly wich one is the best.
Also, soon I will start using the TV as a monitor so, I guess that one will be consuming too.
Oh and I plan to upgrade the webcam. I will either get that 4K Logitech cam x 2. Or I will get the Sony Evi camera. However, lots of upgrading needed.

I mention I did read all the suggestions above, but, from what I noticed, most of the girls are not splitting Jasmin+ Streamate. Those are some kind of KING OF CPU CONSUME :)))) They are competing on wich one is eating the most of a computer :))).

PS: I did read the other thread about computer shopping, but it's mostly about laptops.

Oh, forgot to ask the most important question: What kind of windows is the best for camming?
Windows 7 or windows 10?
Right now I use windows 7 64 bit. Maybe that could be a problem too? I never knew wich one is the best for this job lol :)))

I don't know but in the Uk the price of a decent laptop seems to have doubled in the last 3 years.

My current laptop is a Toshiba Satellite AMD A10 and it been a fantastic laptop over the last few years and it still runs fast but its always had problems with getting very hot and its starting to just switch off sometimes when it gets really hot.

Toshiba are not making laptops any more according to John Lewis & I can't anything half as good unless I want to pay about a grand.

The latest AMD chips don't seem to offer quad core any more :(

Hi all, I need to upgrade both my laptop and internet. Which do you all think is most important? I can only upgrade one this month. I've read this great thread and am leaning towards the Lenova Z50 since I'm on a budget. But I'm also crawling along with only a 1.9mb upload. My current laptop is only an I3 also, which , using OBS I'm still able to stream steadily at a lower resolution and bitrate. But I really want to stream at the highest resolution/bitrate asap to help my placement. I'm on SM and in the states. I don't splitcam because I can't with my current setup, but might if better equipment / connection make that possible. Also considering renting a laptop while upping my internet. Anyhoo, any thoughts? Hoping to compensate for the summer slump by upping my placement via these upgrades soon. Thanks.

Well, not the most knowledgeable on here, but I think both are equally important?
Can you maybe get a WiFi hotspot or a WiFi card ( not sure how those work, I myself have a WiFi hotspot for a backup in case my wifi drops or goes out.

My ? is, I want to get a small, lighter lappie for travel camming, any ideas?
I'm thinking a Lenovo too.

my computer just committed suicide lol, I have a back up but really hate using it. Are there any new things coming out soon like for example we will need an i9 not an i7 anymore or just get a new one now. Thanks

If you can afford 16 cores and an I9 then I say go for it! But at this time I personally dont think its necessary for camming unless you're into creating high quality 4k clips or vr content. No camsite requires that sort of strength.

Hi girls,
currently I'm using my MacBook Air from 2012 with an 1,8 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4gb RAM.
Besides the battery that became a bit weak it totally works alright for "normal" stuff and I would love to keep it but:
When I'm streaming it get so hot that I can hardly touch it, it seems like it can't handle what I'm doing. I don't do split camming yet because the internet is too poor but I'm planning on doing it as soon as I'm back in Europe.
Also, I'm using the Logitech C920 and I still couldn't make it record clips in 1080p, only 720. (One of you suggested using OBS and I set it all up with the help of a youtube video but it still looks like 720 plus it is lagging like CRAZY.)

So I was thinking about getting a new Laptop and, because it seems like everything is easier with Windows, to give up on Apple. I'm traveling a lot so it shouldn't be too big and too heavy. I oriented on the thread here and I'm wondering what you girls think about this one:

(I swear it's a coincidence that it looks like a MacBook Air lol)

A SSD is the new HDD. It's a faster, upgraded version of it. So you have it, actually :)

Now, i don't know what you want to use it for.
Everyone reccomends a desktop pc, if you work on more than 2 sites.

unfortunately I can’t have pc. Only laptop

Edit: I used to work on 5 sites at the same time but just for a while and it was okay, a laptop was able to handle it

This laptop should work on 3 sites without a problem. But that's it. Things have changed since 2 years ago, when I was able to handle 6 sites on a powerful computer, now i can handle 3-4. Sites are eating more and more resources. Good luck!
