Welcome to SW. It sounds like you've done your homework, and that cam and those hours will be a great starting point. There are ladies who do not show their face, some who do show but only do non explicit Tease or domination shows, and others (like me) who keep their face off cam while doing something overtly explicit. All of us are making money so long as we show up to work, give a service our customers enjoy, and market ourselves to new clients. As Marina indicated it's not really if but when people you know find out, because they most likely will, and you need to make peace with that idea now before you start. You can make smart choices about where and how you work and who you speak to about it, but the chance is always there. People are usually outed through talking about their work to others though, rather than someone spotting them on a camsite x

Anything is possible, you can make $500 in a day or $5 in a week.
You can deny but doesn't mean people that know you will believe it. This is the World Wide Web, there's no secret.
Before you start camming, it's important to ask yourself would you still cam if everyone knew.
I'm not comfortable with people knowing but I really wanna cam. I've been wondering if it's possible to keep this as a secret job and from what I've read, most ladies say they get found out. I wasn't going to give any private info out like my email and I'm not planning on using PayPal or Amazon or any social media connected to my phone. I would really keep my personal info and cam life as separate as possible but is that possible? Idk. I'm a private person in general so it's not like I have shame I just wanna live and do what I want in peace without having to answer any questions about why I chose to cam

I honestly feel like being non nude and also not showing your face might make things difficult for you to make money. Its difficult to make money as either and if you aren't showing either your face or yr naked body that'll be even harder IMO. Most customers really want to see your face but if they can't they might be happy with seeing some titty and hoo ha but if you aren't showing that it either it might not be worth it to them. And there are successful non nude models but most of them show their faces. They wanna see you look them in the eye when they're playing and feel that connection. Making non nude fetish clips with no face might be a little easier though but I feel like live cam shows would be tough. But you never know until you try! Maybe you're an excellent dirty talker and can get inside their heads and make them drain their wallets. I'd say try it and see how it goes that's the only way you'll know. And never do anything you aren't comfortable with xox
That's true! I'll try not showing my face from the start and see how that goes for a month or two after my new model status. If I'm not make around 500 a week then I'll show my face.

if you are genuinely concerned about people finding out that you cam
i wouldn't even bother in the first place
this is the internet you can't really hide (as much as you try)
the second you broadcast it's out there forever

I want to point out that if people find out you're a camgirl they aren't really gonna look at "oh I never got naked or showed my face". They will see it as just another camgirl. Same with your tax records. Camgirl is camgirl. If you try to be a teacher/politician anything else where reputation is a huge deal it really won't matter u never got naked on webcam.
If you are that paranoid get a (good usually more pricy) wig that looks great on you from all angles. Do makeup different than your day to day life. Maybe put up some different room decor than people see in real life.. block certain states or countries.
Even then you might be found out though.

I, too, commend you for doing your research, joining SW and not falling for a studio advertisement. However, no face and no nudity will make achieving $500 in 15 hours extremely difficult. $33.33 per hour is a pretty high goal for a brand new camgirl, even if she's nude and showing face.
Perhaps you have already, but if not, I would recommend considering phone sex, texting, writing erotica (if you're a decent writer) and/or making audio clips (I recommend selling audio clips on NiteFlirt and Clips4Sale).

This is not about secrecy, it's about privacy. I understand you are entitled to your privacy as we all do. You can take extra precautions but if someone recognizes you and wants to gossip, that's really out of your control.
If you are not comfortable with people knowing you cam then it's probably best not doing it. Sex work is not the only job, are there other options and ways to make money.
You don't need to give out your personal information to get outed. It's not a question of will but when.

I'm on the fence on this one. I would hate for my parents to know other than that I don't really care. I wear an expensive wig and wear full make up which isn't anything like real life. I am down as a lot younger than me, talk in a totally different accent and the area is totally different. I wear clothes in a style no one would recognise either.
No one in the world knows what I do only me. I feel quite happy that there would be enough doubt that I could blag it. I don't have a huge social circle at all and certainly no one who is male let alone likely to be watching porn sites and I don't do clips.
It could come out of course and I can live with it but I have been quite careful to make sure it would be a hard guess. My cam room is my bedroom and no one goes in there but me.
Others are right be at peace with it but you can reduce the odds

For me the financial rewards are well and truly worth it and I have little other option at the moment anyway. I often see people who look like someone in all walks of life to be sure they were that person in a setting I wouldn't expect is a big jump.

On certain cam sites, you have the ability to block different regions from being able to see you. Also, sunglasses are an option if you want to hide your face.

Thank ladies! I'm thinking about doing phone sex and texting first and seeing how that goes. I think I'll still want to streamate because I think I'd really like it. Do you think streamate's new encoder will be good like 3 or 4 months from now? Hopefully it won't be buggy for long but I don't know how long it takes for streamate to fix bugs due to updates.
Also, how long did it take for the people in your life to discover your work?

Girls who dont show their face will make significantly less than those who do, on average. Just like if you dont have audio, dont get nude, etc. It's a tradeoff. But I agree with others in that if you have a problem with people finding out, you really shouldn't bother. Because eventually someone will. I thought some sites had rules where you HAD to show your face?
As far as how long it'll take for friends or family to find out.. there's really no telling that. Could happen in a month, a year.. or less. Who knows? Just go in assuming that it will eventually happen. My parents discovered me while I was working for kink.com (even though I had already told them what I do AND given my mom the site address.. my dad had been trawling for porn/camgirls and "found" me that way...) and they wanted to "disown" me lol

when i first started the only people i were concerned about is that my parents would find out
i finally told them after a year and they have mellowed over time
whenever i tell them i have to work they to pretend they don't know what the fuck I'm talking about and are like "oh you got a new job" lol
i used to wear wigs/heavy make then just said say fuck it
i'm never going into politics and I'm fine with having to explain this to my kids when the time comes
my parents already know I'm cool
and that blocking feature doesn't work 100% of the time
three times guys have ended up in my room from the same city i live in (which i have blocked)

Mine most probably suspect I make a lot and whenever they come here there isn't a hint of how and I won't work while they are here. My mother mentioned something about my sister being upset someone said she worked doing phone sex and I said why it's totally legal- that must be what they suspect. I have a family to suport and I have said many times I will do what it takes and that is what I do. I think most people who know me would find it very hard to believe it might be quite funny to see reactions!

MalloryBee,
Sorry to bust your bubble but non-nude and not showing your face rarely works. I mean you could get away with this if you have audio and can talk really dirty. Or if you have some sort of unique cam shows. If you do not want to show your face, then you should just do phone sex, texting and clips. Some international webcam sites will allow for you to wear a mask while doing your cam shows. :)
Hey ladies! Soon to be cam girl here! Never cammed for indy or a site. I haven't cammed yet because I need to get my passport and to get my passport I need to find my birth certificate. Hopefully I find it soon because I wanna start camming asap. In the meantime, I've been reading so much advice on sw. this site is amazing
One topic I haven't seen is not showing your face on cam. I planned on aiming the cam on the rest of my body but I really don't wanna show my face. Not because I don't think I'm attractive, i just think it would be easier to deny if anyone I knew came across my videos and other content I'll want to sell. I have a nice body so I figure it's nice enough to just focus on that.
This is my plan for camming: Im choosing to cam on streamate because I think I would like doing pvts and excl more than free chats. I'm gonna cam for at least 3 hours a day for at least 5 days a week and I plan on strictly following that schedule. I'm gonna start off at 4.99/5.99 if I can. (I'm not sure if those rates are available for a new girl but if not I'll do the highest available prices for beginners) I want to do non-nude so I was thinking about just focusing on teasing, dancing slowly, findom, sph, stockings, and foot fetish content. I plan to use a mic, Im pretty sure I will buy the Logitech c922, and after I get used to camming on streamate for a month or so, I'll sign up for niteflirt (I'm experienced with html)
Do you ladies think this is a good plan and do you think I can make at least $500 a week not showing my face? Thanks ladies!

After 1/ 1,5 years of camming I got outed in the little village I grew up, I am pretty sure a LOT of people there know what I do.
I werent living there there anymore for years so I coudnt care less.
I am pretty sure a close girlfriend who I trusted in knowing the truth outed me (not to the whole village, but 1 person takes enough to do the damage)
My parents already knew because I told them before I started camming

I don't show my face in free chat or private if I can get away with it but I am willing to show my face once they have been in paid chat for 5 mins or longer. I don't show my face because I hate staring endlessly into the cam like I'm some goldfish in a bowl though not for privacy reasons as I have already been outed. I also like to hide my disdain and eye-rolling for the freeloaders.
I disagree entirely with whoever said that not showing face means less money I make more than enough for a comfortable lifestyle and attract loads of big spenders who couldn't care less about seeing my face until they are paying. In fact the only people who have ever said to me 'show face bb' were FREELOADERS never has a spender big or small even mentioned it!
$500 a week is more than possible but maybe not on 15 hours, that could be a stretch some weeks. Also I do agree with whoever said that not showing face AND attempting to be non-nude is a recipe for disaster and I am a nude camgirl so that is something to consider.

When I first started, I kept myself disguised with a wig and glasses. I have found that my glasses created a reflection off of the lights sometimes. That kept me disguised the most. Nobody ever complained about it. Mostly they want to see expressions on your face like smiling, laughter, your sexual enjoyment. They can not connect with you if you don't show your face. Some of them do want to connect with you. Smiling, conversation combined with sensual teasing gets me a lot of tips. I like being a great cock tease! Sometimes I do not show my face in a Pvt. because I am doing something explicit. In free chat I don't even take my bra off. I make them take me private if they want to see more than a nipple slip. In free chat, I might do a nipple slip or play over bra and under bra in a very teasing way and move my hips.

I don't meant to be a debbie downer. I hope I'm allowed to politely share my opinion, since you did ask for opinions.
No, I don't think it's going to be easy. I'm not convinced it will be possible. Also, you want to make $500 a week in 15 hours? Are you serious? Without showing face or anything?
That's $33/hr.
You would need to be in private for 22 minutes,
and you would need to be in exclusive for 16 minutes
per hour.
I'll tell you this-- I'm personally on streamate with the same rates, high speed internet, and excellent cam quality. There's no way I could keep that up without getting regulars. It's hard to get regulars when they can't get to know you or see you. A lot of these guys come to cam sites because they want a personality behind the face. Yes, you might be able to pull it off. However, I really doubt it. You're going to be getting a lot of three minute men, and you're going to be unhappy when your paychecks aren't adding up even though you've spent a lot of time in free chat.
And you're new. I have to say, thinking you can pull this off is extremely optimistic. You want all the benefits of camming, without any of the downsides. Honestly, the other ladies are right. People aren't going to care if you're non nude on a cam site. They'll only see that you're on a cam site. I don't have a problem with optimism, I just want you to think this out intelligently.
But yeah, go ahead and try it. I think you'll see that I'm right. It's going to be difficult or downright impossible. You're asking for too much, and you're giving too little. That's just my two cents on the topic.

I know it's going to be hard work and I mentioned that I definitely want to dedicate at least 3 hours but I plan on adding a shift..perhaps it'll end up being one in the morning and one at night. Pics/audio/texts are a great start. You can also maintain a little more privacy by avoiding token sites. Skype is pretty good camming money, although you have to market yourself. CamModelDirectory, IndieBill, LiveCamModelShows (lovehooks' site) provide 80-85% payout, which is fantastic. I'd suggest marketing your pics/clips/texting services on Twitter and Tumblr, to increase your traffic. Phone sex (like Niteflirt) is also great for making $ without revealing too much of yourself.
I started out in a similar boat... I attempted to wear a wig and dramatic makeup, but it was so difficult to get ready to cam, that I just decided to be myself and do the things I mentioned above. Also, keeping your face out of cam some/most of the time helps, and I'm inclined to believe that talking a lot to the customer (saying their name, asking questions, etc) will help you avoid your cam shows ending up on clip sites. But keeping your identity a secret is unlikely in the long-term.

When I hide my face it's also to hide my eyerolling and mean or bored facial expressions. I understand some girls bank off that but some reason that always hurts my money if I don't look like I wanna be there.

I used to feel this way and still do sometimes (about having my face showing way too much) due to the type of vanilla work I've done in conjunction. But I've found that it is something you can play around with it from time to time depending on the site. Sometimes I don;t care and just show my face, sometimes, lips down is enough. It just depends. Steamate lets you block states I believe. I think I opened a profile on their but haven't been on it for a very long time. I mainly do cam on one site but PSO is my main go to.

Thanks for the tips! I'll keep it in mind not to be in the cam the whole time and to make my content seem personalized so I lower my chances of getting reuploaded. I was thinking if I promote myself by using social media, wouldn't I be increasing my risks of being found out sooner? Im planning on using the bidding system on niteflirt to show up higher in the pages. Would decent placement and selling content on multiple sites suffice? Do you think it's achievable to make $500 a week without using social media?

MalloryBee, I think it is very doable to make $500 a week without social media. Just know that you will be recorded no matter what site you are on. It does not matter if it is a private or token site. There is No privacy on the Internet. The first site I cammed on was Chaturbate. I googled my name 2 days later and tons of links came up with my stage name and videos were created and sold for their profit. Most of it was pretty vanilla too. I am just careful about what I do on Chaturbate in free chats. I do nude explicit shows, non nude fetish and role play in private. I get alot of privates on Chaturbate. Just got to learn your hustle so you can send them to private. I have not detected any of my privates online yet. But, they might be.

Noo they don't, the ones you've seen are EE studio girls of which there are quote a few on during the daytimes. Most UK girls set their rates around £2 group and £3 private. I and many others charge £4 ($5). On AW do not be cheap, guys are there to pay. 1 credit = £1 and you keep 65% - 70% of that.
Yes it is as beginner friendly as any other site. You need a passport for verification.

Generally, if you're that concerned with privacy, you won't do well camming in the current climate. There's exceptions of course, but the paranoia and energy involved with making sure everything is perfectly discrete will hurt your income.
You should always cam with the expectation that:
- Someone you know will see you.
- You will be recorded.
- There will be traces of your "camming time" on the internet somewhere after you quit.
If any of that would be a deal-breaker, then camming is not for you.

Understand and I had discussion with my boyfriend about that and he is excited to have pornstar at home Loll He is ok with that if I am. I'm in serious reflection. It's just that I want to be all in control like do my own pub and get the cash for me, be independante. Don't know how so I will search here for answer. Thanks girls !
