Family of 3
Rent $215 my half (2 bed 2 bath renting a house in NC)
Light Bill $100 my half
Broadband Turbo Internet $30 my half
Cell Phone Bill $55
Car insurance $157
Gas: $120+ (I drive alot)
Food $100-$150 my part (we try to bargain shop for food. We snack or cook 90% of the time)
Charity $45 (I send $30 to a little girl in china and $15 to a food program every month)
Random mommy work and/or things I think I need XD varies Normally $200+
Runescape: $8.50 month and I hardly play it XD
Probably a few other things I randomly forgot bc they get autodrafted to my card...
Boyfriend pays his half of the main bills. 3 year old pays her own bills has child support that comes in randomly from my ex, so all her stuff is paid for with her card: any snacks she wants, food, toys, pullups clothes, etc. When that doesnt come in, another $125+ (my part) for her insurance, pullups, clothes, and other items 3 year olds need (me and my bf split this when we need to)
So averaging around: $1000-$1500+ normally not including what I need to put back for taxes and emergencies that I need money for that always seem to arise.

Rent & Utilities: Free as of right now, but I'm trying to start budgeting for about $500 a month to pull my weight
Car insurance: $50
Gas: $150
Food: $300
And.. that's it for now. I'm pretty well taken care of, by my mother and boyfriend. But considering things are changing, I'll expect that I need to start saving cause my expenses are going to triple in the next few months.

Your car insurance is so low!!!
I remember when I was 17 and mine was $70/month full coverge then I got in an accident and it went to like $300+...
Four years later I finally have it back down to $90 for min coverage but $50 oh that would be nice

Lol I don't think your expenses are too out of control, judging by your rent you just live in an expensive area..
But if i had to cut something out of that I'd cut out the gym...Running, swimming, and biking can keep you in great shape and are all free...it may only come down to $5/day but that's still $1860 a year..
And the gas I know lol Im usually arround $100/mo too....if I had a regular job I could see my gas being like $300+ /month which I couldn't afford then anyways..

How on earth do you keep your pet costs so low????
3 dogs and a cat for $100 a month?
I have ONE dog and a cat, and it costs me around $150....
Here is how my pet costs break down p/month:
Insurance (for the dog only, the cat is apparently uninsurable...despite being insured in the UK.): $50
Cat litter: 1bag a month $10
Cat food: 3/4 of a bag a month $15
Dog food: 3/4 of a bag a month $50
Dog poop bags: 4 rolls a month $5 (yup, she poops a LOT. We use around 4 bags a day)
Chew toys/bones: at least one a month $10 (she is a serious chewer)
Other: $10-30 a month - this is sometimes training tools, replacing stuff like a ruined leash, broken tag ring, getting new clippers, portable water dish for hikes, rope toys, rawhide bones, tennis balls.
And that is just the average monthly cost.
Other, less regular costs include:
Vet bills! The past year is expensive because she is a puppy, so had all her extra shots, as well as her spaying, but even just an average year would have her annual shots and de-worming, and probably a couple extra visits (lets say one for picking up bacteria playing in the ponds/mud/ocean in the summer, and antibiotics for it, and one minor "injury" although she has already had two this year - cat scratch to the eye and a hurt leg)...you are still looking at $500 a year or so...or $40 a month. Oh yes, and the cat's annual vaccination and check up, for another $200 this year (because she is OLD so gets a bigger check up, and her 3yr vaccines are up for renewal). Add $15 a month.
Flea stuff: We really only do it in flea season, because it is so expensive (and a little toxic!) but to de-flea both of them with revolution or with the pills still costs $50 a month. 6 months of the year, that adds another $25 a month.
Training: We intend to do some training this year so that we can start getting her qualified in some sort of "job" - starting with a trainer coming out to work with a small group of dogs we KNOW, then doing her canine good citizenship and probably starting to train as a S&R tracker....this is going to easily add $50 a month to her costs, if not more.
Grooming: We don't take her to a groomer, we do it ourselves, but if we did, a full service grooming for her would cost $30-50 a time....even once a month that would be a lot!
Other stuff: Like this year I am taking a $200 pet first aid course, not just for my own pets, but for my volunteer work with animals. I also went to a Cesar Milan seminar (kind of just for fun, but also for tips and ideas) that was $50. Then there is dog walking stuff, like buying a new waterproof jacket, and new rubber boots for beach walking....
If I add in all THOSE, averaged out over the year....my monthly pet costs go from $150 a month to around $300 a month.
How do you keep it so low with twice the number of animals?

I'd like to know too lol....
Here's how mine breaks down
$30/mo health savings....This is my version of having her insured...basically just an account I keep money for her in incase anything was to go wrong.
$50/mo food...she eats Blue which is not cheap but she loves it and I don't feel guilty feeding her it
$17.50/heartworm...since I live in the south I have to keep her on heartworm year round.
....
$100 is without any extras like toys, bones, new collars/leashes, or vet visits...
Luckily mine isn't a heavy chewer and only goes through about 2 femur bones a month and still is chewing on her deer antler I bought 4 months ago
Plus she doesn't tear up toys so I don't have to buy them often...although she does have a bin full of toys so I went a little overboard with buying them for awhile
For flea control I use diatomaceous earth...its not as effective as frontline or another name brand but it gets the job done and is chemical/toxin free...
Oh yeah and its $4/pound at my local organic pet store so it lasts A LONG time...
You dust your dog with it once a week and use it on the carpet then vacuum it up.
While I wish I could get my pet expenses down I guess I don't mind them being high as long as it keeps my little fur monster healthy *sigh*

Jeez, I want a pup but you all are scaring me. when I had mine I was in the military, medical was free since we had an on post vet. I remember food being expensive, but neither of them were destructive so beyond the usual chew stuff, there wasnt much to replace.
My best friend cooks all the food for her pup, granted though its a small pup not a big one...she doesnt trust packaged food. She doesnt feed her scraps though, she has recipies esp for her pup so there is still that cost, but its way cheaper, though not as convenient as bagged food. Really good to hear though the budget you all have for pet care, cause Im looking into doing some shelter searching by this summer, so all this is good to keep in consideration.

If you are an animal person like me it is worth it :)
I grew up always having a dog when I didn't have one for over a year after I moved out i felt like there was a huge hole in my life.
If summer comes and you still want to get one do some shelter searching for sure...
Humane societies are great....but those dogs usually have been rescued from kill shelters and are not at risk for being put down...if you can find the kill shelter in your area (usually run by animal services...at least here.)
The kill shelter here is VERY hard to find and is not even advertised, it was recommended to us by the Humane Society while looking at dogs...
I found the best thing that ever happened to me there and her adoption fees were only $40 fully vaccinated, spayed, dewormed, micro-chipped, and a free vet visit.
As far as making food I have been looking into it but there is so much to read about...I want to make sure I'm 100% satisfying my dogs nutritional needs and it is so tedious lol
But yeah I don't trust packaged food either....
A few years ago I had dog who got leukemia...a few weeks after the "cheap" major dog food brand she was eating had a recall...
So now I try to feed my dog the best food I can and hope its safe.

Don't be too freaked out, but bear in mind that it is a HUGE expense and time commitment, and it is a good idea to do as much research as possible before making the leap. I sat down and worked out a budget, but even then I didn't account for certain things....
$100 a month is a reasonable assumption for a monthly cost...but it does depend on a range of things.
Puppies are more expensive than adult dogs as a rule - the medical expenses are often higher than grown dogs, just because of the initial vaccines and the spay/neuter cost. But they also are more likely to chew through toys, beds, leashes, etc. They can also outgrow crates, palypens, and collars, so you need to buy more in the first year. They also eat waaay more than an adult dog, so the food cost is much higher.
Puppies are also usually more work...all of the training has to be done from scratch, and housetraining tends to screw with your schedule for a few weeks when you are taking them out every hour!!! They also are higher energy and need more exercise, than a grown dog of the same breed.
That said, I LOVE having a puppy, I am totally happy to put in all the extra work and cash to have her for her whole life, and to be able to watch her grow...totally worth it for me!!
There are also cheaper ways of doing things, obviously. I am really careful with food, and feed only local, organic, filler-free food...so it is much pricier than cheap kibble from the grocery store! My pup also tends to BURN through toys and chewables, so we have to buy new stuff practically weekly! My pup is also enormous...so that means that every item she needs is the biggest in the range...and so the most expensive. Collars, beds, crates, water carriers, toys....all of it!
Not everyone insures, but having used it when the cat was insured in the UK, I would never go without! At the very least, have a "dog fund" where you pay in x amount each month. I would do that if I wasn't terrible with my money. You also don't need to have a trainer, I am just going through "official" training because I want her to become certified to work. Same with the first aid - most people don't have pet first aid, but I wanted to do it.
No question, dogs are expensive and time-consuming. But there is also no question that they are WORTH IT! I would pay double and go without other things for myself for my pup - I just love her so much, and would do anything for her.

Thanks for the flea recommendation! I don't like using the toxic stuff, but I also don't see the point in buying cheap stuff that is less toxic but doesn't work! Sadly, we have hardwood floors, and no vaccum...would it still work? And is it ok if they lick a bit up, obviously?
I WISH that I could have a bin full of toys!! She just tears through ALL of them. In days, if not hours. Big bear has big jaws....we occasionally give her antlers or those big leg bones...and they will last a few days. A week at the absolute max. On the plus side, all that chewing makes her teeth super clean!

Yeah its fine if they lick it up, just be careful to make sure it doesn't get in their eyes and be careful how much is breathed in(if your rough with it it will make a powder cloud)! Diatomaceous earth (DE) is actually used in grain feed to keep bugs out, so cows, horses etc eat it all the time... The way it works is by destroying the exoskeleton of pests (ie fleas) causing them to die.
It should work fine on hardwood and tile because it pretty much kills fleas on contact (although I leave it down for a few hours). As long as you don't mind white powder on you hardwood and have a way to get it all up it will work fine :)
You can also use it on your yard or patio if you have one.
If you have an organic pet store near you they should sell it, other wise you can get it online or at a store like home depot.
Wow I cant imagine a dog going through an antler in a week lol
Yours HAS to be a crazy chewer because mine chews her antler about an hour at a time quite a few times a week and has BARELY made a dent in it in months...then again she's pretty dainty lol
I actually use a toothbrush + doggy toothpaste to keep her teeth white...Im a crazy pet person haha

This is for the month.

Lights-250
Cable/internert-$128
Cell phone-$85
Car insurance-$95
Daycare-$55
Gas-200
licquor-$150
expenses for my daughter/clothes,toys,diapers-$200
food-$200
Clubbing-$100
Hair/nails-$300
credit cards-$500/only have a $1000 dollars left to pay ,yay!!
Students loans-$250
Luxurious and free of charge.
haha I read that as "money for nothin and chicks for free"
I can't really contribute much here. Besides $400 a month (which I assume goes towards internet/electricity/whatevs) my SO takes care of almost everything else, so the rest of my money goes towards buying our next home. The places in my area rent for about 1.5k though. I think the evil mortgage wizard requires $700 on this place, but it won't be too much longer before he is vanquished.

Family of 3 plus 2 cats and 2 dogs:
House: NONE! YAY!
Electric: 40-200 depending on the time of year.
Water: NONE! We have a well.
Food: 500 approx. I like to eat organic/all natural as well as buy local when I can. It costs a little more, but for me, it's worth it.
Pet expenses: 125 approx. if no vet bills.
Baby expenses: 600 if we're lucky... she's spoiled.
Vehicle payment: 400
Vehicle insurance: 200
Cigarettes: approx 20
Internet: 65
Cable 50
My boyfriend pays whatever I don't. And I'm new so (and am only on and started on MFC...) I'm not really making that great of money.
Monthly total: 1,450 averaging the electric at 100.
We also pay property taxes, but I'm not counting that. Also, alcohol has been left out because I really don't know how much he drinks, but I know it's A LOT!!! And I drink probably 10 dollars worth a month... lol

This is another threadjack but I just have to say it's so nice seeing so many girls who care SO much and so genuinely about their pets!
I'm an ex rodent-rescuer, not the same as dogs but still-I follow animal rights news a LOT, and I have seen some horrific things and it's nice to be reminded that some people are so seriously into care for their animals, (especially regards rescuing!) whatever the animal. Kinda restores my faith and reminds me that people who are kind to animals are still in their plenty!
Threadjack over, as you were ladies! :)

Do I regret it though? Hell no I'd do/pay anything to be happy <--true fiend
:D Me toooo! I think me and you would get along great, haha. My booze bill is about the same, $300-$400 a month.

Oooh, neat thread. These were my expenses before shit hit the fan (things are a lot more expensive now because I decided to pay for drugs instead of my living expenses. Don't do that, lol.)
Rent: $450 (in a nice house with roomies, utilities/kick ass Internet/cable/etc included)
Food: $50 (if I really cut it down, I had a bad Mexican food habit so $200/mo was more typical)
Gas: $100 (again, if I really cut it down... I love driving so $200+/mo was typical)
Car: $112
Car insurance: $120
Phone: $35
= $867/mo
This was in Southern California. Man, I miss it. Seriously, drugs are bad and not paying your bills gets really fucking expensive. /PSA

I kinda wish I was an alcoholic.
No, sweetheart. No you don't. (((hugs)))
Aside from the financial cost of drinking and the amount of work you miss because you're drunk, it takes a major toll on you. You feel worthless, but you can't stop because the pain becomes unbearable if you try. I know I am going to end up drinking myself to death. Alcoholism runs in my family and I have relatives who have died of cirrhosis but I am terrified that one of these days (soon) my body is just going to give out. When I lay down at night there are many times I am afraid to go to sleep because I know in my heart I won't wake up in the morning, and I have to sober up first. I have literally seen demons from the other side and have had to fight just to stay alive after days long benders. And this is accidental. I've been to the hospital several times for my drinking. The last time I accidentally drank myself up to a BAC of 0.36. You should have heard how the doctor admonished me, and you know why? Because when your BAC hits 0.40 you slip into a coma and die. I was *this close* to death and I didn't even know it, I wasn't even trying, it was just accidental because that is the extent of my addiction (luckily I was not home alone and the person I was with saw that my breathing was compromised when I went to sleep, so he called 911). Oh, and I've been through inpatient detox at a hospital, because the doctors told me that due to the quantity and frequency of my drinking I could not stop cold turkey, because I would most likely have life threatening seizures if I tried. After a week I was discharged, and within 24 hours I was drinking a 40 as though nothing happened. PM me if you ever want to talk.

Mine is probably a little over three grand a month for basics. I'm married thankfully so I don't have to pay it all myself. That would really suck if I did.

Water - $150 to $200 (I have a pool)
Cell Phone - $150
Home phone - $45

Car Insurance - $150

Frugal living right here and we wouldn't have it any other way. We like saving for fun things to do in the future rather than living beyond our means. No vanilla jobs or side work currently since camming is supporting us pretty well.
Rent - $475 (UGH just went up from $410)
Water/garbage - included^
Electricity - $70
Cell phone - $15 or a lawn mow since we're added on someone elses plan
Internet - graciously shared by the only nice neighbor we have
Groceries - $250 + $40 in late night fast food (bad, we know)
Pets - $18 for the cat's food/litter
car insurance - $40
gas: $20 (we have a scooter + car)

Right now it's something like
Rent $400
Internet $50
Phone $45
Gas $65
Food $500
ummmmm
it's about to change a bit though because I'm moving into a bigger place and my utilities will be separate (HOLD ME).
I'm so used to just getting by on around $1K a month... But having more space means I will be able to expand my art studio = more money, and having a devoted room for camming will REALLY help.
I hope.
Also I'm glad I own a really old car with super cheap insurance (I pay once a year) but it's coming up on repair time... and I need a new computer... and dildos... And I want to go to massage school and pay for private school...
So if I could just make like $8,000 a month honestly that would be great

Grand total: 3033. Yep, I am paying more in credit card minimums than I am in rent. And I am striving to pay an extra $500-1000 on top of the minimums if I want to pay the cards off before I die. Thinking about getting a loan to consolidate my debt but my credit is shot (had a bad last year moving for a job that fell through–went through my savings then had to live on cards until I discovered camming and am just starting to dig out).
Also trying to pare down some expenses but budgeting is hard because I am incredibly impulsive (thanks ADHD) and bad with numbers and organization (shout out to dyslexia!). Like, I get confused when trying to track spending when it overlaps months, and get frustrated, then say "Oh, eff it, I haven't spent THAT much on clothes this month, plus I deserve a break so let's see what's new at TJ Maxx!" I need to stop using shopping as entertainment when I need a break from camming, but I know no one here. Blergh.
ETA: Even though my situation looks pretty bleak I am in SUCH a better place thanks to camming and I am grateful for that every day.
