So I reassessed the situation and it looks like I only need $600 a week to survive with bills paid. But I like to aim for $1k for plenty of financial room lol.

Psychs and therapists are expensive. I didn't add my therapist on my list but it's $140 an hour.

A TON!!! I live in one of the most expensive resort areas in the world (have to, since I'm a single mom with NO support except the occasional kid watching by my dad who lives here, won't leave the area)
Typical: a crappy studio rents for more than $2K/month, including nothing and FREEZING in winter, burning in summer. So a spendy life! But it seems to work out without debt or borrowing because of camming....
Babysitters? $20/hour IF you can possibly find them! They prefer the resort visitors who tip huge.
Ain't easy, but life with my son is priceless!

This is our estimated expenses for a family of 5.

Rent $1400
Utilties $275
Cell $150
Cable & Internet $200
Car $250
Car Insurance $75
Food, Gas, Household Supplies, Pets $1100

Ouch

Our rent used to be $2,000 and utlities around $500 but we moved 3 years ago to another state to save some money. Considering moving back in a few months since that is where all of our family is but I'm not sure if I wanna take on that extra cost. It's kinda scary to look at it all written out lol

Skeeerewed update! I posted on this early, but now the situation has sky-rocketed. Son made it to elite level gymnastics, no more program available where I live, so major league travel to spendy new gym, and lots of competition costs. I'm not in the income tax bracket to be a second home owner, but looks like that's the dealio....

Issabelle
07-12-2014, 12:25 PM
^^ Magic! Haha. I get to write off a big chunk of my premium, so it's really closer to $210 per month and I only pay $88 because of my income level/state. Obamacare strikes again! But seriously, my father picked it out for me since he did insurance and other related things for so long.

My car insurance is covered under our family policy still since it doubles in price for me to pay it apart from them. I don't have any other insurance. At least that's cheap. More beer money, wooo!

Man, I have been with Direct auto insurance (or Direct General) for years. I started out paying $150 a month, now I pay $70 a month (would have been $60 but I got some points on my license). Every time I renew it gets cheaper. If you haven't had any accidents/major tickets and your insurance isn't going down in price every six months/year than you should get new insurance company.

I just redid my budget and I can comfortably live off of $2,305 a month being a bitch hemit. AKA, $27,660 a year :D This includes an emergency fund as well. However, I plan on actually aiming for $1,800-2k a week and putting the rest into my 2 year business interest account.

TheYazter

I guess I'm lucky that I still live with my parents. They pay the rent and everything and all I have to pay is about $243 for monthly school fees.

Rent- $850
Electric - 120
Water- $80
Food- $1500 a month (not including eating out)
Car payment - $300
Car insurance - $120
Internet- $120
Chiropractor - $199
Phone- $95

I think that's it. There's 4 of us in our household, eating organic is ridiculously expensive but i'm sure if I was smarter about it and made/froze meals and meal planned better I could get it down by a lot.

Almost a year since I last posted in this thread, wow. Things have changed.

Rent/Utilities/Internet: $668
Phone: $35
Food: $200ish
Alcohol/cigarettes: $100ish
Misc toiletries and such: $20ish

I only get my hair cut maybe twice a year (long and layered, doesn't take a lot of upkeep), do all the other beauty stuff myself, ditched the car and walk everywhere (I miss driving though, need to save up for another one), don't buy new clothes all that often, have completed my transformation to total hermit so I don't spend much on going out. Insurance is covered by my family but I never use it.

Total: about $1023/month. Not too bad.

This thread makes me want a 'budget goals' thread so badly. I feel like it belongs in Dollar Den, but I think cammers have their own specific budgeting stuff to think about. I'd love to get a group of girls together for support in cutting back on needless spending and getting my money in order!

I haven't been budgeting lately which is bad, but.. Approximately..

rent, utilities, bills = $2,800
food =$300
drinks = $50
going out = $200
shopping/household stuff = $100
dog = $50 (whatever I don't spend goes to savings)
tax savings = $1000
other savings = $500

So $5,000. But honestly I am trying to get out of debt right now so saving money is kind of just wishful thinking... I have about $16k of debt including my car I'm paying off. Is that a lot or is that normal? It's car, back taxes, and credit cards...

I need to get back on track! Actually I just need to make about twice as much $ as I'm making now haha. Here we go!

Issabelle
07-15-2014, 03:36 PM
I just got a dog, which some might thing would blow my budget. Nope. Now I can't go out all night every night and bar hop because I have a baby at home full-time. I get her tomorrow and I'm getting ready to get online now to pay off her adoption fee and new stuff! Whee!
