John lewis daylight bulbs
To save on space the el gato keylight is amazing, but depends on your budget

Thank you Susie! Will look into these. Can't thank your post or some reason. x

And thank you PhatGirl! Lots of really helpful suggestions here. Now to make a decision!

You can get daylight bulbs on amazon, but they are usually horribly bright. I have extremely sensitive eyes so I found the best solution (not overly cheap though)
i got the Phillips ambience bulbs and kit where you can pick exactly what tone and brightness on your phone and I use those bulbs in ikea Fido lamps. I find 2 to be the perfect balance x

And just saw your reply too, Scarletl! Thank you.:heartbeat

Are these the ones you mean?

So , I purchased smart rgb strips, and installed them in my room all around. Rbg flood light 60w - 1 piece for testing. If i use only these lights, my cam image is just dark, too dark for stream.
If i add more light - turn on one softbox i have, these colored lights just disappear. My room looks nothing like in the video/pics. Idk what now.

There is one more item, that can be interesting maybe:

Or just a colored softbox diffuser would do, for cheaper. No idea.

One more thing: what if u put something like this on ur camera? Someone smarter than me maybe can tell me, if that Could work, or it s a fail?

A 60 RGB light is going to have more lumens than the smart strips. If you want them to be vibrant and appear in the background you will need to adjust your camera settings. Yes it's gonna be a bit dark in your camspace but if you are close to your key light then you should be illuminated just fine. Using only the rgb's isn't going to be enough lighting. One other tip is you may also need to use a difussion gel on your softbox so it doesn't wash out your floodlight in the background. My favorite set up is a dimmable ring light directly behind my camera and the flood lights in the back to the left and right of my bed. My rgb flood lights can be turned down to avoid having that bright washed out globe on that reflects off of the wall. Sometimes I switch out my ring light for the elgato keylight. The brightness on those can be adjusted to and I've

Now if you're looking to have an all around glowing light effect you will need to have those sort of lights placed behind your camera as well. Pinks, Blues and Greens work the best. Those lens filters that you linked to on Amazon might make your room look weird. I suggest ordering color gels from Amazon. You can buy them to cover a softbox or even place them over your rgb floodlight if its not as vibrant as you'd like.

All of this information will vary depending on if you're using a webcam or a dslr camera. Most of this is still possible with just a webcam. If you're using a webcam then color gels will only work if you place them directly over your lighting ie softbox.

I use one Elgato Keylight plus a ring light in the front. That's more than enough light for me. But you will need to have some back ground lighting especially if you're using a webcam. The Elgato Keylight doesn't get as bright as a softbox but honestly I prefer that to being blinde.

what ring light do you use? thanks

My newest one is from Neewer and it only cost me $99 on Amazon. It came with a stand plus a carrying case. ^^thanks so much for sharing. I'm so curious about all this, the longer I cam the more I learn from all of you. You learn something every day and I saw 'color gels" in this thread and WOW so cool what you can do. And a kicker light? Never heard of that, but I'm familiar with the effect it makes.

This stand works well with the Neewer 18. It takes less space putting it on table behind monitor, than use the ground stand.

I just had this desk ringlight delivered. I am super pleased with it!!
It's pretty big, perfect for desk. I bought the biggest size.
It has a small remote attached and you can set the light intensity (wich i love, i can make it as bright as i want) and the tone (warm, cold or combined).
It's USB connected.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32988718566.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.43d04c4dYu4 OEU

The tripod is for desk, you won't be able to use it on the ground, for example and extend it.

Thanks to it, I was able to ditch one of my umbrellas and left with only one. I am thinking to buy one more and put both on the sides of the monitor and get rid of the actual umbrellas.
The webcam stream is clear and I love how it pops my eyes!!!:hyper::hyper::hyper:

that s cool. I m planning to get a second ring lift. Since i have a 2 desktop setup.
On my first ring light, I spent 80 euro at least, I think. Got a 18 inch ring with floor stand, and ... idk with some stuff I have never used.
I really regret I spent that amount on it now.

The one from ali looks just enough for stream. I dont have ali account, but i m planning to get this:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07TFQSBMJ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A38ECRKLBGKTUE&psc=1

waste of money to spend more on them imo.

Yes, it came in pristine condition. One rule to shop from Aliexpress is to ALWAYS sort the products by "ORDERS" and make sure they have reviews with pictures.
That one from amazon looks like what's on Ali. It should be good.

I learned a trick about facing the main key light at the wall in front of you, it not only makes a giant 'softbox' effect but it keeps the light out of your eyes :)

I found a new product for ambient lighting that's inexpensive and effective. The Ustellar RGB LED floodlights. I got a 15watt set for $29 on Amazon. However I am considering switching them for the 30watt version. You can see what they look like at the end of this article Cammodel Lighting (https://admin.boleynmodels.com/ref?page=blog/new-gadgets-for-cammodel-lighting/&campaign=12&affToken=NTc2).

LOVE these lights! I got them in 30watt and that's perfect for my room. Very pretty light and just enough glow behind me. I only use one right now, but love it! I also got the 18inch ring light you suggested. I'll start using that this next week. Probably right behind my laptop/cam.
Other than those things, I'm still using an old soft box on one side of my room just to add light. Lucky my room has a lot of natural light too. I hate the soft boxes, (want the el gato key light so bad!!) I'll use it till them bulbs go out. My husband will kill me if I order more lights LOL

Awesome! You can even synch both rgb lights with the one remote. Sometimes it takes a few clicks but what I love about them is theres some sort of memory built in. Every time I turn them on it's set what ever color I used last.

I tried this technique over the weekend with colored gels to create an ombre background and it didn't work very well with a webcam but came all the way through with a dslr. If the video doesn't start at the right place just skip ahead to 5:23

https://youtu.be/e-gGbVWXS-8?t=323

I used the bright white setting for my rgb lights and then cut out gels to fit over them so that the vibrant colors blended in my background. Using a bright whit light with a pink color gel gave me better results than when I used a pink color setting on the rgb paired with a pink gel. I'm trying to figure out why that is.

Originally they are meant for outdoor use. But you can use them indoors as well. I think the reason why they're so vibrant and inexpensive is because they were designed for outdoor use. It seems that once something is marketed for technology and photography the price goes up. If anyone gets them go for at least the 30 watts. Just skip over the 15 watts.

Yes that's how the flood lights work. BUT I've only been able to get the ombre effect (purple/pink) using a DSLR. The colors don't seem to pick up or blend as well with a webcam. If you just want a color effect to the left or right in the background then they work perfectly with either a webcam or DSLR.

Also keep in mind he is using a color gel overlay to intensify the color.

I want them but cant find any decent ones in uk, just cheap crap from china. Do you think it's worth trying those out or should i order from the US and just wait for them? I have the phillips hue bloom which is a very pretty (and expensive!) Light but it only covers a tiny bit of my huge beige wall!

These look pretty similar. £27 for 2 for the 15w .. or you can get them in higher wattage. Can’t find what the lumen output is anywhere...

I always struggle with my lighting when it's autumn/winter because it's so dark and cloudy outside. Finally I got myself a ring light thinking I'm just gonna have amazing lighting, it's good, but it's really waaayy too bright(even on the lowest settings) and makes all my flaws come out.

This is how I want my room to look.(sorry for bad picture, but hope you'll understand what i mean) No idea how to make it look that way tho. Should I add floor lamp with color changing bulb in the back and some fairylights? Maybe lamp with paper shade?

That’s exactly how I want mine to look too!! however the ring light in front of me just makes it too “studio looking” but if I don’t have it then the room is way too dark. Currently I’m using a LIFX bulb in a floor lamp behind me but it doesn’t give that effect, it’s nowhere near as intense .. I’ve just ordered the flood lights that someone suggested, they should be a lot more intense than just a regular LIFX bulb. does anyone know what she would be using as her key light? As it doesn’t look bright but her body is still lit up.. lighting is so hard !!

She could be using rgb floodlights or a Philips Hue color system. Notice that she also has a color effect in the front of her as well. You have to play around with your setup. Another important thing to keep in mind is color depiction varies depending on the device. Ask her if she's using a webcam or a DSLR. It's hard to tell from this pic. I hit up models on social media all the time to ask them what they're using. Most are super friendly and others don't bother responding. It's all good. :)

You can place your DSLR on a stand. If you have a ringlight there's standard 35 milimeter threading that fits modern webcams and DSLRs. Also newer cameras have viewfinders that you can flip around to see yourself. And then there's always the software on your computer (OBS,xsplit, encoders) that show the stream.

Yup, you can get a remote to control the optical zoom. You can get them for as little as $15 or go with a Transmitter from $60-$160. Or you can use software on your phone or computer. If you think zooming in and out is something you may do very often, then make sure your camera has an autofocus feature. If it doesn't you can wind up with a blurry stream.

Hi! new here to the forum.

I've been camming on skype and chaturbate for a long time now but I feel I still am figuring out my ideal camroom set up and lighting situation. I use the c920 cam and daylight bulbs. sometimes I feel my room is either too light or too dark (I use multiple lights around the room but still have to have my exposure and gain settings high) and the c920 is slightly grainy (just with background stuff, but I wonder if it's possible to get the cam looking even better). For you camming experts, what lightbulbs/setup are you using for lighting? I'm specifically wondering about information not only how many light bulbs are ideal but also the placement of them, the lumens, & temperature of the bulbs themselves (currently I use 5000k which seems to be ideal but I was thinking of switching to more neutral tone).

I use OBS when broadcasting on chaturbate as well, if anyone knows any tricks for obs that'd be helpful too. thanks :)

These are the ones I have, the Ustellar RGB floodlights in 15 watts and the 60 watts. Skip over the 15 watts and go for either the 30 or 60 watts.

https://www.amazon.com/Ustellar-Changing-Floodlight-Waterproof-Dimmable/dp/B06XJ5QH9T/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=ustellar+2+pack+rgb+led+fl ood+light&qid=1574832224&sr=8-3

If you want to do your own search use terms like RGB floodlights. If you don't mention RGB you will only get white floodlights.

I came across a Neewer 2 pack of panel lights for only $32!!!! They're completely dimmable up to 5600k. They're small but I think they would be perfect if you're trying to keep your budget down or just need something small to fill in some light. This guy is using them as a key light. I think they're selling pretty quickly because they weren't in stock on Cyber Monday. Already there's only 8 left.
