i get the best lighting with that set up. A cheap 14$ 2light lamp from target, with a clip on ring light from amazon
on the back of my pc, and my fancy accent lighting 5 dollar clip on light in the back corner :)

Dollar tree sells little black led desk lamps. compact, bendable and bright.
I want more. great accent lighting :)

The clip-on ring light doesn't hurt your eyes? I have had to send back my last 2 tripod ring lights. They stopped working soon after I got them so I'm looking for something different.

attached to the middle back of my computer.
when i used a laptop in the past, I clipped it to a old light stand

the light can be adjusted on on all 3 settings. :)
sometimes I need the brightest light but have to flip it up. it still gives off great light tilting it up. i love the bendable arm bc it can move anywhere.

i like it above my head 1 or 2 inches. it doesn't hurt the eyes

my stand light has a indoor outdoor flood light in the top and the arm has a regular bulb.. idk if its safe but it works for good ceiling light.

Hello everyone 😇
I have no idea where to ask. I think it’s related to lighting but I am not sure.

She's either very tanned or she may have made changes in her webcam software to saturate the colors. Also it doesn't look like she's using very much lighting at all? Perhaps she's using a small ringlight? You should ask her to say what the exact lighting is.

I don’t think it’s any particular lighting secret she just looks like she has a tan? Try some fake tan and possibly darken your webcam brightness or adjust the colours. I agree she doesn’t look like she’s using much lighting at all, only the glare off her computer screen in my opinion.

If you wanted a darker background effect while still being lit up, what I sometimes do is change the color on my hue bulb that is in an old school ceiling lamp lamp to like a dark blue or purple. I then use the Neewer 18 inch (from the recs here thank you) to one side of my station and a powerful LED torch style floor lamp to the other. This one I usually keep warm, because I like a little warmth. I then move these around based on my outfit and makeup, and get the look I want.

other then getting a tan, you just need to adjust on the cam software with saturation and brightness and whatnot till you achieve the look you want. Honestly it is one of my fun parts of the day to day job, trying to create a mood.

I think another word for it is "hair light" to light up your hair. I use a small clip-on ring light for that effect. I've never tried that kind of softbox but I'm curious about them.

I know that in photography it's used commonly with portraits because it draw the shadows to under your face and gets rid of them to a point on your face directly.

Here's a good video showing what it can do when used alone.
Never tried it for camming. I do use a back light (adjustable brightness led light strip (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JP5375R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&pldnSite=1&th=1)) right behind my couch so I'm not flat lighting, along with two umbrella lights and an adjustable ring light in front of me. One of my customer is an amazing professional photographer and has been generous about giving lighting advice. my set up has come leaps and bounds!

How do you put led light strip behind your couch? Right on the floor?
I use ring light in front of me too, and it's amazing! I had 1 umbrella, but then it got broken and I bought 1 softbox. But it's so bright even with 1 light bulb (it kind of should be used with 4), that I have to turn it to the wall!
Also, do you turn the 'normal' light on in your room? Or its strictly umbrellas , ring light and led light strip?

I have the led strip light right behind the top of the couch (like an inch below the top of the couch mounted to the wall) so the lighting shines up and frames me.
I also use an overhead light but it's dimmed so it doesn't cast too many shadows. My last house didn't have an overhead room light and I made do without it for years, but I definitely prefer to have the overhead light on and dimmed down a bit.

Having two umbrella lights (one to the left and one to the right of where you sit) with a ring light in the middle creates a lovely well lit look for me. The LEDs are just there to add a pop of color & light lighting behind me so I'm not flat lighting. It just looks better. If you really want to go hard core, you can get a bar light, put it on the floor, shine it at the wall, and then you'd have a very bright/more harsh light behind you. Here's an example: Bar Light (https://www.amazon.com/Multicolor-Controlled-Waterproof-Restaurant-Backlighting/dp/B01NBVCR8L/ref=sr_1_18?dchild=1&keywords=bar+light+multicolor+rgb&qid=1620011307&sr=8-18)

The reason I didn't go the bar light route was purely for financial reasons. the LED strip lights I mentioned in my last post are extremely bright and inexpensive. Plus they're easy to replace and don't use as much power.

Can I get someone's opinion on this light-
https://www.amazon.com/GVM-Video-Detachable-3200K-5600K-Self-Portrait/dp/B07ZDQYJWY/ref=sr_1_16?crid=PKTK4USL5SV1&keywords=gvm+led+light&qid=1646779876&refinements=p_89%3AGVM+Great+Video+Maker&rnid=2528832011&s=electronics&sprefix=gvm+led+light%2Celectronics%2C101&sr=1-16

I haven't ever used a ring light, I like this one because you can move some of the bar's for hair light- etc.

Would I have the same effect if I used a ring light instead of 2 small desk lamps from Target? I'm on a budget right now for equipment so not looking to spending more than $10 on lighting.

I used to sell on Poshmark and I used two HUGE box lamps for that, and my cam. Actually, I want to sell my box lamps and mannequins, if anyone is interested in lighting. Someone may have to verify me or something if they want them. I may still have a ring light I used for my Posh. The best lighting I had was a small table lamp from the Dollar General, I put those older bulbs you can't get any longer CFL in it, and used an off white shade. I placed it right about 3 ft in front of my face, right behind my monitor. Then I turned on my ceiling light. I used a pretty aqua for my walls and I had grey sheets on my bed. I painted my trim white and bed frame white.

I looked great. No need to change settings on cam or anything. The box lights were really BRIGHT. But I liked that I could move them up and down more.

I've started using box lights for other online work, as well as videos but I find myself squinting. I started with 135W bulb, dropped to 105W but still got same problem. I am only using 1 box light in the space I have. Any tips, do I need to drop the bulb wattage again?
