Ever since I started being completely direct and ASKING FOR MONEY for this and that.. and extras.. I make MORE money.. You have to ask for it!.. sure someone will be put off by it and some will leave. but the majority will give it to you if you ask for it!.
Oops, cut my post in half:
Myth: Never ask for tokens, tips, to go private, to call, or to book a session. It looks cheap.
Reality: So? So what? Seriously. I feel like the people who say this are camgirls and freeloaders who both spend an inordinate amount of time not spending on camsites. Look, not everyone knows why youre there or worse hope you wont remember why youre there. You dont have to be super direct about it. Some need reminders. Some dont. Some may find it a turnoff, but some may not be convinced into buying - but theperception of you wanting money isnt the end of the world bc youre there.... for it. But if you dont want to ask, dont? But dont get stuck in a single belief system about how to sell.
I have been considering trying this, and this thread has convinced me. I keep getting guys who seem like they want to spend but are shy. I'm not even concerned about coming across as needy, trashy, or whatever else. I just want to make more money while I'm camming, and I thought that if I try asking when appropriate I will end up with less customers. I was going to try it anyway as soon as I made enough money this week, though.
I've learned that working a 4 hour shift camming is not only NOT easy, it feels more like 8 hours when I'm finished, both emotionally AND physically. And here I thought being a cashier was exhausting. It makes me want to raise my rates to $50/min. ;D

Haha, yes, it's exhausting. Back in the day when I was doing MFC, it was either INCREDIBLE for me or horribly, horribly slow (which is the reason I'm switching to SM). On the days it was incredible, I'd go out of my room after sometimes 6 hours of not eating and drinking and losing all sense of time and I'd be like, "whoa, is this real life?". But I always always always prefer it over sitting in front of the screen doing absolutely nothing at all when it's dead. Used to really depress me.
Oh, and about the $50/min thing... lol, yes, that could be nice. But I think as long as someone on SM is not going any lower than $4.99, the money's truly great (EDIT: that's just my opinion, of course. I'm sure there are many girls in here who charge less than that and are banking).

I use all those terms and then some. ;) They do love it.
LOL. I was really surprised when I discovered this to be true. I was kind of bitching about a certain girl to my husband and he said that he agreed it was a turn-off generally, but he explained to me that really trashy girls are a turn on in some ways, especially for guys who just want to be aggressive. Like I was kind of bitching about a girl who calls herself "whore, bitch, and cum dumpster" on cam (I was still very new at this point, and just didn't *get* the whole "hustle" and "niche" thing). I was like "that's soooo degrading, and I hate it that she's perpetuating that stereotype," blah blah, but he said, "Yeah, but some guys just wanna cum on a girl's face sometimes." I guess I started to understand at that point.

Myth: Nobody is making $100/hr
Fact: If you don't count time in free chat but only paid time then you make more. I make $125-$150 for every hour customer time. If you count free chat as work because you're talking, smiling, doing flashes then I get it. You may want to count your whole shift. I personally just sit like a bump on log & watch tv. Only answering vague simple questions to be polite...3max per customer. I only 'work' in private.

I have noticed a thing about being on a period and not working. If you just cut the string off and shove the tampon in there you can use toys and nobody knows. You may have to go digging it out, and it will be messy then, but that's what I do.

I didn't think of that. Birth control pills will help you to have a lighter period if that's something you would consider. I don't know, and I'm not about to talk to you about your personal choices in the matter. But...just putting it out there because it does work.

Oh sure sweetie no worries, u have good intentions, i am sure every woman camming knows what is working and not working for her, period time is a delicate time of month and every of us feels it different, i know i feel tired, weak and am in pain, if money are not an emergency i prefer to take a little time off and let my body rest; i am 38 now and single so taking birth control pills is not an option anymore in my case, been on heavy periods since 13. Anyway, yes the method is working when period is moderate and light.

Birth control isn't just for sexually active/involved women. I'm 30, single, and can't even remember the last time I had sex, but I'm on the pill because my periods used to be out of control. I remember getting it for 19 days straight, it finally ending, and then starting right back up a few days later. And it leaking right through my pants. It was awful. The pill has made a huge difference.
Also, God forbid a woman is raped while she's ovulating. :( The pill would most likely prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

Yes, i live in EE, not sure how they do things in US but here is like that, what Vlodina said, after the age of 35 u not supposed to take the pill anymore.
Of course there are other methods of treatment if u have a medical condition or if u want to avoid pregnancy.

Studies have said hormonal bc is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Especially if you are older and you smoke. However, just because it's associated doesn't mean it's the causal factor and it also doesn't mean it actually is a factor at all. If you smoke, the older you get the more exposure you have had to the chemicals and the more damage they have done to your body. The older you are, the more likely you are to develop breast cancer/ovarian cancer anyway as you have had more time to be exposed to things that can change cellular structures and cause abnormal growth. They also say bc pills stop working on antibiotics. But if you look at scientific studies not one study shows that's true and now doctors are saying that it only happened with ONE antibiotic. The one they used on patients with tuberculosis. In the USA if a woman can get pregnant she can ask for bc and get it. It does shorten periods, lessen flow and it also helps with pms and pmdd. I feel bc is pretty safe and I've been on it since I first started periods way back in the 90's. It elevates my mood and I don't even have pms at all. Which is a good thing for everyone.
For example...lets say that I smoke and I'm also a painter and I have restored old houses my whole life who have lead paint and silica dust. And then I get lung cancer. Well, all of the above can cause lung cancer, was it a combination? Was it just one factor? So I could have gotten cancer from breathing in the dust particles from sanding the paint, and smoking may not even have played any role. Yet it's still associated with my lung cancer. I hope this helps to explain it better.

how many of them tip u and dont just freeload becos u r social to them?
In my case, I can say a lot of them do. Probably most of my tips are from being social, period. Not from nudity, acting like I'm horny, nailing myself with a dildo, etc. Not even exaggerating a little bit. It is refreshing for some of them when you don't come off as a fake nymphomaniac and actually have something to say and a personality. This won't work for everyone, but I know for a fact it works for me.

My two cents:
Myth: I can't tell customers "no"! They'll leave and I won't get any customers! So I have to do XYZ, even if I don't like it.
Fact: You can definitely tell customers "no". In fact, it's one of my favorite things to do LOL. Every girl has different limits, and I think it is vital to stick with those. It's important that we are able to log off and look in the mirror and feel good about ourselves. If you have a request from someone that you know will make you feel badly later, DON'T DO IT. It isn't worth it. You don't want customers who don't care if you are uncomfortable, anyway. Those guys can hit "next model", and someone will be right behind them to take their place. Save your sanity and just say "no" to shit you don't like doing!

I dunno tho. I mean, I get what you're saying, but to me, I'm working from the moment I put the makeup on until the moment I log off because I could have been doing other things with that time. If you're doing phone support you say that you're at work from clock in to clock out, even if you're not actively on the phone. If you're a waitress you're working the same, regardless of if you've got a table or not.
Sadly, my hustle is heavy on the free chat interaction, so I'm working more than just hanging out (oh how I wish I could hang out) but even so, I'd still be burning that time, needing to be in front of the cam, wearing makeup and looking pretty. It's marginally different if you're indy or paid chat only, because then you can be working on other stuff while you're "on cam" but still, you can't just get up and go to the mailbox or go for a pee or work in the garden. To me, it's still blocked out as work time because I HAVE to be in front of the computer and paying attention. Can't go do other stuff like go out with friends or go to the store.

Yes. If I'm in free chat I factor that into my total paid time because I'm "working" even though I'm not being paid. I run my cam time like if I were a dancer. I may be in the cam room/club but I'm not always getting paid. Dancers will chat with customers for free but the expectation is either a tip, some food, a drink or a lap dance. Since they can't buy me food or drinks, they better tip me. And, like a dancer, if I get no tip from someone I'll just forget they exist and move on to someone who is there to spend money.

No, I think KimKlass was referring to when models are in SM free chat doing over-the-top dirty talk, deepthroating their dildos, and whatnot in free chat.
And she might have been referring to MFC...I don't know? When she was talking about guys liking conversation and personality, I immediately thought of MFC because that's how MFC is. The site isn't for everybody though, and it's not quite as wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am as SM tends to be.

Ohhhhh. I see. I'll do conversation if I'm getting paid for it. I have little conversation in free chat although there's one regular who has spent a ton of money on me who sits in my free chat EVERY night all night. He goes pvt about every other day I log on, so that's ok, but i'm looking for the day he over stays his welcome and realizes that it's a hustle and I'm not interested in him personally.

Myth: BBW wont make as much as a slim girl
Reality: That lie makes a lot of BBW cam models doubt themselves and convince themselves that they are not worth more.
Myth: BBWs cant make a grand( I actually read that on a thread here) camming. The person didn't say if they meant a day, a week, or a pay period but I took it as pay period (2wks).
Reality: This myth is actually very true. Im new to camming so I only have one check to speak of but that one check was 6,488.92 so maybe if I try really hard this pay period I can make only one grand and prove her wrong.
-I actually cam for 50hrs a week so that amount took me some time but anyone, no matter your size, age, gender, skin color if you treat this as a job, full or part, you can make a very good income. Do no let the small minded people who aren't even the same size, age, or gender as you dictate what you are and are not worth.
Myth: Black girls & BBWs should have a lower price per min, its the only way you'll get privates
Reality: Only girls with shitting cams and bad lighting should charge themselves at 1.99 or less. The size of you ass or color of skin should not be how you set you rate.
Myth: You'll get more privates if your at .99 but you'll suffer burn out faster
Reality: You'll suffer poverty before you suffer burnout
How many girls at the price rate of .99 every been in private for an hour, hour and a half with the same guy? How many girls who charge more then $3 have been in a blocked session for an hour, 45min, 30?
The reality is the .99 cent guy is looking for .99 cent girls because he doesn't have any money. Why the hell would you what to spend your work hours with those losers.
Myth: You need a lot of traffic in your room to make a lot of money
Reality: 200 broke people in your room does nothing for you, the 2 or 4 guys who actually become your regulars and take you for long privates every time that your on, that's the better number.

Myth: You will make 300.00 everyday.
Reality: Yeah, right. Sit there on a Tuesday for twelve hours and see that you managed to make 150.00.
Myth: You will only be a good camgirl if you're thin.
Reality: Sure, being in shape helps, but I'm not exactly skinny and I still make awesome money.
Myth: You have to do your hair and makeup perfectly to do well.
Reality: Again, it may help, but many guys like a natural girl as well.
Myth: Wearing less = more money,
Reality: So completely false. What motivation do men have to pay you ? They can jack off for free if they don't need to pay to take your shirt off .
Myth: Talking instead of typing makes you more money.
Reality: I've tried both methods. Guess what? I make exactly the same . Therefore, I incorporate both methods.

I just have to say: I LOVE LOVE LOVE this forum! I am a new camgirl and so grateful for all of the input of experienced camgirls. It cracks me up when I get all worked up about something, wondering if I should do things this way or that...I come to the forum and inevitably find that whatever it is works for some, and not for others. Trial and error for each camgirl is what it comes down too.

Popular opinion: You should talk very little on Streamate to get the most amount of privates! Talking ONLY encourages freeloaders to sit in your freechat and talk.
My opinion: You shouldn't talk TOO much as it does stop privates. But ultimately what we are selling in this business is our own unique personalities-and how can your personality POSSIBLY shine through if you don't talk?!! I get waaaay more paid privates to talk when I talk in free chat-because ppl see who I am beyond just the sexual stuff, and the people who are into my personality get their little preview. Personality gets you regulars, it gets you paid chat time, it is, at the end of the day, everything. So don't be afraid to let your personality shine through just because you're scared of talking too much!!! A little too much is a lot better than way too little in my opinion-I think you'll lose way more privates if you're boring and seem uninterested/uninteresting!
If guys DO just sit in freechat and talk to you without spending money, just ignore them! Talk to someone else! Talk about something else! Just don't give them that attention for free, but you don't have to shut up and not let your personality shine through.

Thanks girls for all the awesome insights! I've been a cam girl on and off since ... 2007! with quite good results. But this forum is really the key to amazing results! :D
I'll write a bit about what I found to be a myth, at least in my case: Some think you must use toys and offer a porn start experience, lots of outfits and perform a show. It's sometimes enough to just be yourself, not use too much "gear" and still be popular. Different people want and like different things, never forget that! :)

Do you mean muting basics? Most models don't block basics; they mute them. It's a personal preference. In my time on MFC, I can only recall one basic who upgraded because of me. And when he finally upgraded, he would not shut up letting everyone in the room know it (suddenly, he thought he's all big and bad now), and he became one of those 20-point premiums who never buys tokens again. Also, he offered to pay my Sprint phone bill for me and have my favorite fruit shipped to my house...lmao. Yeah, I'm really gonna give you my personal info for you to have my name, number, and address...smh. That dude was weird. But you know what it was that made him upgrade? When I had started muting basics. It drove him crazy not being able to talk in my room anymore. I used to let basics talk because I wanted to give them a chance, and I thought two of them were "nice." But even both of those guys got a little too comfortable...one of them started bugging me on Twitter to give him my phone number and eventually needed to be banned, and the other one I mentioned earlier was trying to invite himself to my area to buy me lunch. LOL.
Also, with guests/basics unmuted, I think you have more of a chance of someone you know blurting out your real name and personal info when they do find you. That happened to a cam girl buddy of mine on her birthday! Some douche basic came to her room and started posting her personal info, and it sort of ruined her mood during her birthday celebration. A person has got to be pretty damn miserable with their life to be trolling a sweet girl like that on her birthday.
Like I said, it's a personal preference to mute or not mute. Also keep in mind that there are some premiums who say they've stopped visiting certain rooms because they couldn't stand seeing guests/basics taking up the chat screen with the foolishness. I'm happy with my decision to keep guests and basics muted, and I won't knock any model who chooses to let them talk. After all, it's your room...you call the shots. :)

Love this forum...I started SM a few days ago and have been playing around it with prices, outfits, asking for pvt not asking, dancing around, just focusing the camera on my boobs lol everything that comes to mind...what i found out is extremely hard work , gosh i feel exhauseted sometimes, and so discouraged i feel like just ditching it ..but i really want to figure it out and make it work lol ...i was reading through the forum like looking for a magic formula to make everyone stay in my room and tip me lol and then i get those guys on the site always ready to give ideas...dont say hi..just ask them if they are horny or show a little boob or give me your skype and ill teach you ....well for 4 days i learned that ...its very very tiring to try to please the guys and try to figure out what is that they like, so from now on i decide ill just be myself ...wear as much make up as i feel like it, dance or not dance, smile or not, greet or not ..talk or not ..place the prices i like etc ...its my room and at the end of the day i am the one that should be happier instead trying to anticipate other peoples needs ...and i am not letting SM take the best of me :)

being genuine, real, and not always talking about sex has gotten me recurring regulars. I think it's different for everyone, but i've found that being a little vulnerable and honest builds trust, and a surprisingly large amount of people come on MFC for companionship vs. sex.

Yeah, that shit is NOT cool. If you have to resort to badmouthing the competition and referring to them as 'fake bitches' or 'fake whores', and ridiculing guys for visiting other models, that's way over the top and makes you look like a bully. And I don't care if it's his "hustle"...it's making the model (who's actually a sweetheart, from what I can tell) look bad.

Having said that, if I give serious props to anyone, she has to be one of the biggest because she's one hell of a business lady and works like a motherfucker. *in awe of her*
I am in awe of her too. That guy that is always shouting stuff out in the background. I just don't understand how that helps her hustle.....but hey, what do I know. She is still on top despite it. Maybe having an annoying guy during your gold shows works.

Sometimes an obnoxious guy can actually be a major boon - I have this one guy who occasionally ducks in and starts shit with the other customers. I don't know what it is, but his mocking everyone almost always seems to get the tips flowing. I once got a bidding war going to ban him - HA!
I think he gets off on pissing them all off - sometimes he'll take me to private *immediately* after someone finishes my countdown. I'll accept, but then I'll just read a book or play on my phone until he gets tired of paying me just to piss off the others. He once stayed there for almost 15 minutes, while I flipped through a novel and occasionally told him what a massive fucking douchebag he is. The private-spies were like "WTF is this?" Heheheh.

Sabihah ^^ I agree with You. However, when other models are on and trying to do their own hustle, the guy in your room shouldn't be calling attention to them and telling guys not to go to their rooms-That's what I'm talking about. Her friend does it also-the one who sits with a huge bottle of vodka, a pit bull, and points out other models.
No wonder she's never in prvt.

I've seen guys in her room complaining about him.
I really think she does well in spite of him not because of him. She should really get rid of his ass, ugh!

I know who you're talking about. She bitches incessantly about another model who does a similar show, which is really annoying but a good lesson in 'what not to do'. I like the other model's hustle much more and will pop into her room occasionally when I'm going to attempt gold shows that day.
