View Full Version : Objectifying men okay? Objectifying women is a no no.

I suppose Cut and shredded both mean low fat.
Most people tend to use shredded to mean a bodybuilder in contest shape, so less than 5% where you can see muscle striations and veins. You can only maintain 5% for the day of the contest though.
Most people say cut when they mean you can see definition, which can be anywhere less than 10%.
Bruce Lee and Marky Mark had different training goals, hence looked different.
Frank Zane had the ideal physique because he was smalled boned and had a small waist, I think he even looked better than Arnie.
Another dude today is Alberto Nunez.

Thanks for the clarification, and Mark Zane looks like one those superheros, its that V shape he has going on. Looks good to me, but no more than that in terms of muscle/mass.
True, very different regimens for Bruce and Mark.

I like Bruce's body.

BlackSheep, fuck the muscle look--go for Bruce Lee instead, that's my take on it, and probably more your natural body type anyway if you really get into a training regimen. Since the 90s women have increasingly gone for the muscle look, but you will never go wrong if you look like Lee.
Focus on the pushups a lot more, also go for pushups with your feet up on a couch, or try handstand pushups--though those can be tough to get started with. I can advise you on the latter if you are interested. You will get results pretty quickly I bet. It took me fucking forever to gain any bulk at all but it is not my natural body type--until now apparently haha. But if I quit my routine I would lose the muscular build.
Safado that was pretty funny with the 'Manlet' post. I used to be the shortest kid in the class growing up (then grew 6" in one summer when I was 16), so I know what it's like at both ends of the spectrum. But they are totally wrong when they say that shirt guys can't fight. Some of the toughest guys I have ever known were short. Especially if they know jujitsu--then look the fuck out.
There are a lot of interesting ideas being discussed in this thread. I am especially impressed with the Vamp/GlamourRouge debate.
And the very appropriate quote by MissSassyPickles hit on the same comparison I was making before, in a somewhat different way. Interesting...

I liked the whole 'golden era' of bodybuilding. Like Frank Zane and Arnie. Back then it was focused on aesthetics.
Frank Zane was perfect looking, small waist, wide shoulders, small boned.
Arnie had good shaped muscles, and a large frame, but wide hips so he had to make his muscles big to make his waist look small.
Now it's just gone crazy with Phil Heath. Not good at all. :(
Bruce Lee, well he was focused more on being athletic and being able to perform athletically.

Djoser, that's what I am talking about. I always liked Bruce Lee's body, to me its the perfect balance of muscle/shape/tone. Simply put in my opinion, he was a lean mean fighting machine (literally and figuratively). And its classic too...that body type is timeless looking.
What I have been doing is running 7 days a week an hour each day (I literally run...rarely jog). And I use minimalist shoes with a zero drop, at the most a 4mm drop and I always land midfoot, sometimes forefoot if I am sprinting but never ever heal strike. I know and believe good form running will save most people if not all from any unnecessary injuries. I was never passionate about running till I got my first runner's high...it was a feeling like no other. Breaking second wind and going over the "hurdle"....it just felt so good with the rush of endorphins. I was tired, but I was happy.
So for the push ups, I do about 10-20. Then for pulls up (we have a bar in the yard) I do 10 with my palms facing me, and 10 with my palms facing away from me. Thats about it lol, this is every day as well. As you can tell, I am definitely a cardio head...with my main activity being running and occasionally I hop on our spin bike.
Any advice on the handstand push ups? I am terrified I will break my neck lol.
As for my meals, its always oatmeal every morning (the old fashioned kind, not the instant/sweet stuff) but lunch and dinner is quesitonable. Sometimes I am super healthy with water packed tuna on wheat bread, brown rice/lean meats, fruits, etc. And other times I am eating double doubles from In-N-Out Burger and chicken from Wingstop.
TheOne, you know just thought I'd mention this. I was recently at Planet Fitness with a friend (he's a member, I was there as a guest) and this dude was lifting weights and breathing hard, and grunting. Then the "lunkhead" alarm went off...I was like WTF is that. And the staff member there told that its for the meatheads, to keep em in check and so they dont scare the other people working out. I thought to myself...for a judgement free zone they like to advertise this is something else. Its just funny because from what I hear, if your really into lifting you don't go to Planet Fitness anyways...thats more for cardio bunnies/heads. But that lunk alarm...memorable to say the least.

You won't break your neck doing handstand pushups. The best way to break into doing them is to get into the fully extended handstand position and lower yourself as slowly as possible, several times in succession. After you get more comfortable with this, put a thick folded towel on the floor and try doing it from headstand to handstand. If it doesn't work, go back to lowering yourself slowly until you can do one. After you can do one that way, concentrate on doing more of them, and slowly decrease the thickness of the folded towel or pillow.
Pullups are also great!
Your running, combined with pushups at increased amounts/methods of difficulty, pullups, and maybe some curls (they add a lot of bulk to arms--more than triceps stuff will), will probably give you your Bruce Lee ideal pretty quickly. It sounds like you have the dedication to get what you want.

Oh and I would do the handstand pushups every other day--it's basically the same as lifting very heavy weights.

Awesome, I appreciate the input.
And I am excited to see what I can achieve with dedication. I have the cardio down for sure...but building some form would be a welcome change.

This is the pull up bar in our backyard my aunt made. I also like to hang from it at the end of the day. I just hang for a couple minutes, feels great for my spine. A nice stretch and decompression going on.

I never realized how sexy Bruce Lee looked. Yes I do prefer men who are muscled but also like thin men as well. Strangely the guy I am interested in is both short and chubby. I didn't think he was hot at all when I met him but he keeps impressing me by his personality and other things and yes he is also trying to improve his appearance.
This thread is going in so many directions it's hard to keep up. Yes, people like attractive people in shape, however the less likely one is towards that the less likely they will find. A good looking in shape 25 year old man will get a woman like that. An older out of shape man? probably not unless he is rich and the woman is a gold digger. Yet it doesn't stop these men from trying for the same women as attractive in shape men. These guys either end up falling for someone not the type they wanted or end up alone. I used to laugh at the 45 year old obese men on dating sites asking for in shape women only.
I generally agree with the men pursuing but there are exceptions. Many shy men often don't have the confidence to approach or think they will be rejected. I have come across several men like this.

Lol. I suppose the niche they are targetting is the newbie who doesn't want to be intimidated by being surrounded by people in shape, yet wants to maybe do a little bit of training to feel good.
By the way, if you want to have fast food, at least make sure it fits in with your macros. It might be unhealthy, but at least you're consuming the same amount of carbs, fat and protein you would be when eating clean.

@!TheOne what do you mean by "fits in with your macros"? like the amount of carbos for the day overall? and did you ever have a gut? if yes, how did you get rid of it. I am happy with my build but I have trouble getting rid of the last 1.5 inches around my waist. gave up beer, potatoes, bread even pasta, but it still won't go away. My chest is bigger and have a bunch of shirts that 'hang just right' so you cannot tell I have the gut, but I would love to get that rip.
hey BlackSheep3, play Bruce Lee using nunchakus in slow motion sometime (eg. on computer). fking awesome. complete control.
Kellydancer: Yeah, Bruce Lee is a beast. The guy who has caught your interest has done so with his personality, that can go a long way. But as humans we are shallow for the most part (ill speak for myself at least) but when someone can win us over without that initial physical attraction...they must be something special then. And yup a hot young stud can definitely get chicks...granted he has enough sense/game. Some people are really just low in IQ or nuts....not even their looks will save em there. I don't care how hot the girl is...if she is a psycho I am running away. Haha literally...running away...and I got the speed to do so.
TheOne: My thoughts exactly and you are right on the money. I asked my cousin who I recently found out is an employee at Planet Fitness...and she told me that a guy was on the treadmill running at a vigorous pace (he was in split short shorts and tank top...one of them crazy marathoners) and was starting to breathe hard...they didn't sound the lunk alarm but they told him to take it easy. She told me there were some king sized customers beside him who looked uncomfortable. Wow, that gym is really wack. So you cant breathe loudly...you cant grunt a little when lifting...whats next? Sweating excessively is bad too? Yikes.
And what does fit in with my macros mean as Loverherbutton inquired? I read about that on the body building forums a while back but don't know exactly what it means? And by eating "clean" do you mean the healthy stuff ie. steel cut/old fashioned oatmeal, lean meats/chicken, vegetables, brown rice, nuts, fruits, etc?
And to LoveHerButton, will check out that Bruce Lee footage you suggested. Thanks.
And I too have a gut...its a small one now but I am having a hard time getting rid of it. I run like mad, try to cross train, etc. but stomach fat is the hardest to lose in my opinion. And while I do eat bad food occasionally, for the most part its good stuff with the brown rice, whole wheat bread, lean meat/chicken, vegetables, fruits. I limit my salt/sugar intake. Drink lots of green tea/water. No sodas here.

It just means work out how many carbs, fats and protein you are eating each day.
Then if you want to have a big mac, just make sure the amount of carbs, fats and protein in the big mac doesn't change the totals for the day.
Which would usually mean you would have to cut down the fat and carbs in the other meals, so the totals don't change.
It's not healthy, but it's better than nothing.
