Actually gambling has been something new for me this year. I got caught up in Second Life's "skilled games". Most of the time you win but then there are games that no matter what you'll lose. The problem with this is the scams. Some games will pay our usually the first or second try. Usually 2x games. Then 3x at worse is usually max 3 tries but at certain game sims you'll see the game loose over 10 times before paying out. Obviously at that point even if you win you've lost so much.
Now since I started playing I've noticed some games sims no matter what you play they all loose. These places are typicall scams or places that have "xxxx won $5000L" usually is a person that owns the sim and has one of it's ALTs playing games.
I do really well at skilled games. Some games I can play back to back and win but just in the same way I can play properly and still loose the game because it doesn't provide enough options.
Most game sims have games from 10L up to 20,000L ( 1 L =0.04) So at 20,000L game is about $80.00
Now I initially went into SL just to do adult work from camming to escorting and the like. I ended up getting a show where the guy refunded about $200+ and that's where I started getting bored and started playing.
I was suprised how I just strolled in and after a day of playing I went from 5,000L or $10,000Land ended up winning over $291,000L
The problem is if you ever get that high you need to cash out most of it and leave maybe 5k L in your acct. I'm not sure what it is but I think some of the sim owners may be able to see how much you have to play. Because any time I get up too high any game I play doesn't seem to matter what it is will loose back to back almost on command.
My only issue with this type of "gambling" is that it's probably worse than any other. It makes you feel that your skill of playing the game will always win out. The issue is that the skill part is great but it will not work for every game. When you hit the scam game you're thinking hmm maybe I hit the wrong key so you play another and another. Then it dawns on you that the machine is shit and it's best to move on to another machine, perhaps playing higher.
SecondLIfe kinda outlawed gambling there but now they do the same by calling it "skilled gaming". It's a nice little loophole that gets them by gambling laws and restrictions.
Don't get me wrong I rock the hell out of those games but then i get stumped usually the 2KL-5KL game that seems to keep spitting out scam games. Then after you loose about 20,000L playing the blasted scam game you move up to 10KL to win that back . If that doesnt pay out then you move on again to maybe a 20k or higher game.
Today I was pissed kept loosing and then I hit 3 machines the 10K 20K and 40K machines and boom got all of my lindens back.
But it's always the 2.5-5k games that seems to be off no matter where you play.
Then one day I was at a game sim and watched a player sit and play the hell out of a 1k-2k L game. I check out their profile and noticed they were only 3weeks old. What does this tell me? Most likely it's a sim owner's alt. They play the game like crazy so that when someone new plays it it will not pay out or they will just loose a bunch of times.
Now the object of all games is pretty much the same. Beat the score and win. So you have to first figure out what each box or item represent in numbers and then you're playing like a champ.
I haven't really gotten into casinos in real life because it just seems to noisy and it's seem 100% chance. What I find is odd is that couting cards is an issue when the person is just using their skill at playing hands that make sense not just hoping for the best.
