I actually have a CreditOne card that is behind and they have been working with me to get it caught up. The actually haven't closed the account even though it's behind. They just told me to catch up and it would be unrestricted again. I'm going to use them and my student loans to fix my credit.
My VS card charged off and I spoke to DB today to get on a hardship plan.
CareCredit was closed but I can apply to re-open. I kind of need that card, I don't have health insurance...
Still have to call the United collections agency because USAA has practically locked me out of my bank account. -_-; Hopefully I can get on a payment plan.
I'm going to meet with a credit counselor.
I'm still pretty conflicted though. My husband has a ton of debt that will never be repaid, but it's probably all charged off at this point. We're pretty screwed regardless for the next 7-10 years.
Pull your credit and your husband's credit. www.annualcreditreport.com You can pull it once a year for free.
Once you know what is on it, feel free to ask me here or pm and I can walk you through how to start cleaning it up. It is not hard but it is tedious and time consuming but it is well worth it. Glam and this thread helped me so much.

Well for starters, some how my ex boyfriends current address (one I've never lived at, and he didn't live at when we were together) is being shown as an address for me, even though it's been nearly 10 years since we dated. So every so often he contacts me bitching about super old collection places sending him stuff for me. These collections are near expiration so they are starting to get more aggressive as the 7 year expire date is approaching. I just want the wrong address off there because it's being show as my current address, along with my actual current address, and I can't seem to get anywhere with the credit bureaus when it comes to correcting it.
Also I have an "alternate SSN" showing on one of my reports, that I have no idea who it belongs to. It could be the ex boyfriends... but I am not sure, and I highly doubt since we never had a joint account or anything where it would link his SSN and mine...? There wasn't anything unusual showing up on my report, other than that - no weird accounts or anything, last I checked (a year ago) so I'm lost as to how to fix it. Again, credit bureaus aren't helping with it.
My biggest thing currently is an old car loan. I purchased a car from a "buy here pay here" place a long time ago and paid the car off. However, they were reporting it to my credit and then all of a sudden stopped reporting, so it's showing like a current ongoing payment that I'm still making. When I bought my most recent vehicle, they gave me a bit of crap over "already having a car payment" and seemed to think I was trying to hide it, when in fact it just hasn't been updated as being paid in full. The company I bought from says they will fix it and haven't.
And then just a couple of old little collections that I could pay, but if it's just going to sit there and not be removed in exchange for payment I'm kind of like... why bother? I need to get the places to agree to remove the items in exchange for full payment. I wasn't always the best at keeping up with bills and budgeting so I had several small things end up in collections because I would be like "oh a bill, I'll pay that later" and then forget or whatever and keep intending to do it and then it ends up in collections. Thankfully I don't do that anymore, but the damage from being careless in the past is still there unfortunately.

About annual credit reports... I just recently tried to pull mine for the current year and the security questions they ask you, I had to answer "none of the above" on every single one, and then they were like "sorry we cannot verify your identity blah blah send us a letter etc". Even though I KNOW for a fact I answered them right. You know how they are like "you may have a loan that was opened in or around whatever month and year". And my answer to everything was "none of the above" because I didn't have anything they were giving as options.
Also one of them told me I had already received a free report this year, and I know I haven't because I keep all of them that I pull and note the date I got it so that I know when a full year has passed.
So, now I'm kind of getting worried.

So I just went over what I posted... and I'm kind of getting concerned...
- Alternate SSN showing on my report
- ex boyfriend from 10 years ago address showing as my current address
- one credit bureaus saying I already got a report recently when I know I have not
- security questions when trying to obtain my credit reports are not matching any known accounts that I have, leading me to apparently incorrectly answer all the security questions and not be able to obtain my reports
Does this sound fishy?

Credit reports can be full of wrong info.
Anyway, you asked about the co. I use, it's http://www.creditattorney.com
I had good results, but I had to stop using them for awhile. I just recently reinstated.
I've previously tried doing it on my own but didn't have great results.

Let's start with your address situation. Here is the letter I used to have all of my old addresses removed off my credit report. I mailed my letters to the credit bureaus and they removed my addresses very quickly:
Your name
address 1
address 2
month, day year
big bad credit bureau
address 1
address 2
address 3
Dear Consumer Relations:

2. My current address is: your address. Please remove all other addresses IMMEDIATELY. They are not accurate!
Please delete these disputed items. Thirty (30) days constitutes a reasonable amount of time for investigation. Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, send me notification that these items have been deleted, as well as an updated copy of my credit report.
Sincerely,
Your name

Regarding the social security number, use the same letter as above but change it to say that there is a wrong social security number on your credit report and you would like it removed.
Transunion would not let me have my account online because I answered a question incorrectly. So I had to send them a letter requesting it along with a copy of my DL. I would do that as soon as possible just so you know that your account has not been compromised.
Regarding the small items on your collections, I would dispute all of them. I am sure a bunch will fall off just from disputes. I would start there and then once that is done, you can work on removing the more difficult items.

@LAChloe
This summer we're looking to launch a credit clean-up/credit builder option as part of our standard service (zero fees for models). We have an accountant and lawyer in our area, but they're a bit clueless when it comes to this. We do have some help from 501(c)'s (CBA, for example) that are doing similar programs and wanted to know if you're up for some consulting work also.

Oh goodness, I don't know that I know enough to consult but feel free to ask me any questions. I have read a lot of books and forums. Glam's advice also helped me. I am more than happy to pay it forward and help anyone who needs help.
<3 Thank you for thinking of me. <3

I just want to bump this thread. I know a lot of people make New Years resolutions to get their finances in order. This thread is gold! My credit score went up over 100 points in the past year after following the advice in this thread. It was not easy but it definitely is possible. It should go up even more next month when one of my collections ages off.
Another thing that really helped me get my finances in order and help me save for the vanilla business that I started this year was Dave Ramsey's books/radio shows. I can not recommend them enough.
Anything is possible, girls!...as long as you stay focused.

And this thread is amazing! Thank you ladies! I just got a Capital One credit card to start building my credit, but still need to do some disputes. Luckily I've never had credit card debt (this is my first credit card) and I've never filed bankruptcy. So I feel hopeful!

Capital One is amazing to deal with! I just got approved for another secure card after a not so good idea in which affected my first one so it went to collections. One year later & they allowed me to get a second chance with them so I'm thankful for that.
The first time with them, I got the limit increase after my 5 on time payments....and each & every month I had the card & paid on time & in full, my credit score increased. It was awesome.
Now I've been disputing crap on my credit, trying to clean it up but it has proven quite a task....I have come to find out that even if you dispute the stuff, and even if it doesnt appear to you on your credit report, it could very well appear to a loan officer (for example) but with a note that simply says that the consumer if disputing it. I was quite upset by this so I've been working extra hard to get the things I've disputed off my report completely...been at this for over a year now. They really make it tough.

I used a law firm that specializes in credit clean up.
I know there's DIY people, but I've used & liked their results I had to stop for awhile, but everything's close to complete now

Any cam models or independent contractors i.e. strippers escorts have experience with filing bankruptcy? Ive been a cam model for 3 years while attending school and a member of this site for a while.... I have a degree now and make less money camming a lot less than I did the past 2 years I got into debt before sex work. I used credit cards for my school books tuition and living expenses and everything just kept compounding......no student loans but now its become overwhelming with what i owe embarrassingly enough and I just can't keep up at this point and honestly my credit score is so bad that I just want to start over at this point. Do i need to tell my lawyer that I am a sex worker when I file? All my money was direct deposits Is that how you prove income verification? Anyone with a similar experience would be greatly appreciated thank u!!
