i'm five years late to the thread and i wasn't even old enough to strip back then when this thread was written lol, but i have some things to say and add. i see that the op has given up on stripping in la due to the clubs anti blackness and bs hiring policies, and that the op is now more focused on camming instead.

anyways, i notice its a trend out there in the west coast with the strip clubs shooing away unambiguous black dancers away from attempting to audition or even showing up on the club premises and i find it horrible that y'all were dismissing the op claims and feelings about being shooed away from those places because of racism and focusing on their body type instead. yes, having a fit body is the most important thing for this job and for this industry indeed, but it doesn't matter to some of these club managers. we could easily get our make up done professionally, wear nice outfits, and have "wonderful bodies" and still be shooed away from auditioning. i've experienced the same shit while i was out living in phoenix these past couple of months and when i recently visited la. i would seriously call up and message these clubs on their social media pages and they would happily tell me their times and days when to show up to audition, and i would show up, then they will be like "sorry we aren't hiring right now"/"we are full of girls"/"come back *this certain time of day/month/year when we are busier*"/blah blah blah *insert whatever bs lie*. if that was the case, then why tell me over the phone or on social media that y'all weren't hiring?! i even came back the times, days, and months when they said they are busy and willing to audition me and they still shooed my black ass away lol. for those who are reading this & wondering my hair and makeup were always on point, and im 6' tall and i have a body like a early 2000's video vixen. im not the skinniest nor im not the fattest either, my tummy could use some slight toning, but it wont deter me from getting a job ya feel me? like it was bearable and i still got shooed away. i know deep down in my heart it be racism/anti blackness/colorism or whatever type of discrimination, because white or light skin dancers would show up as well to audition and they get a chance, but i don't?! wtf!!!! that's bs!!!! like that's common thing out there in the west coast and pretty much anywhere i assume that isn't the south/urban clubs lol. anti blackness is global. i have personally experience the bs that was covered during the #nycstripperstrike thing when i was living out there two years ago, but at least they'll let you work, audition, etc. out there in the west, they don't even let you enter the premises when they see that you are black lmao! what kind of shit? but yeah that's all i gotta say, i can see why the op had given up on the idea on stripping and moved onto online sex work instead. the op isn't buggin out and is hella valid on what they are saying! i've experienced the same thing and apparently im a little more thinner than them from what they have described on this thread. when poc feel something is racist or unjustifiable let them feel that way!

I agree wholeheartedly

I'm not black, but I've definitely seen a lot of anti-black racism on the part of hiring managers and owners...I believe it. It's really dumb too because even in the whitest of clubs there are usually plenty of guys that love an unambiguous black woman. On the other hand- in clubs that are mostly white- the one or few black girls always do relatively well because they have no competition from similar looking girls.

Yeup, I walked into one club and one black dancer was coming in before me and I overheard the manager say they are not hiring to her. I walked up and asked if they were hiring and just filled out the paperwork to work. It happens a lot more than you think. The high end clubs are very selective with who they choose that is black. I think it's not right to do that. I've been turned down by white men saying "sorry I'm only interested in black girls" and off they went to get dances with the few black girls they hired. Guys like all different types, give everyone a chance and let the strong money makers stay.

These club managers and owners man
Like they make girls feel so shitty
I know its not helpful right now bc other people telling you “me too” when you need a job isnt helpful but i an having trouble too.
Usually for the most part places hire me or at the very least always at least let me audition if i show up at the correct time but i also cant audition right now , although theyve told me so over the phone.
I think it has to do with recent legal changes and clubs trying to figure out how to comply without losing current dancers and what the pay structure for new dancers may be. Bigger chain clubs just changed over to some shitty system bc they dont need to worry about losing all their girls but other clubs wont have such an easy transition

It is heartbreaking that some managers suggest you audition or work at a club you clearly won't fit in at.

Some girls do have unrealistic expectations when they don't fit the part, too.
