She has a new video and her figure looks great. The song is nice and she's already has over 20 million viewers in less than 24 hours. The licking hammer thing and nudity probably shocks many but again I think this is the uncomfortable reaction to someone that had a child audience not that long ago. I've seen other performers do much worse but you can see comments everywhere that say " ugg how distasteful".

I liked it-- the song and the video but I did find the hammer licking cheesy.

Is it just me or does the song seem like one of the 80s rock love-anthems?

indeed Miley's broadcast 'antics' are stirring up pressure to pass the 'A La Carte Cable Bill' ...

(snip)"Parents disgusted by former Disney star Miley Cyrus' act on Sunday night's "MTV Video Music Awards" are demanding Congress pass the Television Consumer Freedom Act so they can choose and pay only for networks they want to see.

"Why must families be forced to subsidize MTV or any other network with their cable bills? It's time for consumers to be able to choose and pay for only the cable networks they want," Dan Isett, director of public policy for the Parents Television Council told Fox News.

The act would give consumers a solution for future MTV VMA programs — the ability to choose and pay for cable networks that they want versus having to pay for networks they don't want.

Earlier this year, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called the current cable TV package system an "injustice being inflicted on the American people," while introducing the "a la carte cable bill," a measure co-sponsored by Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut.

The bill has been in limbo since it was introduced in May, but supporters stress Cyrus' bikini-clad performance and Lady Gaga's performance in nothing but a thong and seashell bikini top was over the edge. In addition, they were upset at condom commercials being aired during a telecast that was aimed at young teens.

Quantum Networks CEO Ari Zoldan told Fox that he wants to just get the channels he wants, and not "these channels that have become the bloatware of the cable business."

He also said cable packaging creates a "delusion" for added channels, and if people were allowed to pay only for the channels they want, subscribers to questionable channels would "substantially drop."(snip)

The real irony here is that if Miley's TV performances do result in the 'A La Carte Cable Bill' being passed, one of the first probable 'casualties' will be the Black Entertainment Television network.

Anyway, when did the booty clap get renamed twerking?

Maybe I'm just too old, but this all comes across as goofy. Her performance at the awards just made her look stupid, like she was a goofy kid trying too hard to look sexy. I cringed out of embarrassment for her more than anything else.

The video wasn't much better IMHO. The song in her video reminded me of an adult version of a Disney song - lol. It was like they had to shit a few words on a piece of paper and add some decent background harmonization to it in order to give her an excuse to prance around a video nude.

Idk. Maybe I'm out of touch with pop culture now, but for me all of that was more comedic than sexy.

I liked this quote from Miley--exactly what she will probably say about the controversial VMA performance in another few years: "“Right now, when people go to iTunes and listen to my old music, it's so irritating to me because I can't just erase that stuff and start over."

I missed all the Hannah Montana stuff, never seen it & not about to go look now.

Really, I have to agree--except it wasn't even a booty clap but just a couple little tiny ass shakes. I don't get it (renaming any and all ass shaking 'twerking'), or the outrage over the fact that she actually shook her ass a couple times and thus apparently attempted to hijack black culture somehow. Belly dancers did it long before there were rap videos. Hell the fucking Egyptians probably invented it 5,000 years ago. If she actually tried the full on twerking like in that one video it would be different. Thank all the gods she didn't.

1) Miley is not fat. In fact, she's very very thin, has been shrinking rapidly, possibly due to any number of things, but either way, shame on the ones who were criticizing her ass. It's probably nicer than 90% of the asses on the planet so fuck off.

2)But her outfit was hanus. She needs to fire her stylist and hire me instead :)

3)Tonge thing was bad. I liked the rest of it.

4) Most significant: This forces people to acknowledge that seemingly "good" girls also have a sexuality. In retaliation to oppression, she's unleashing it and making an attempt to desensitize people to it. I don't think the performance fully achieved this goal because it was a bit too lewd.

5) I find the original "blurred lines" video far more offensive than miley's performance. It's appalling that Robin Thicke can get away with fully nude women in his video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwT6DZCQi9k
but Miley Cyrus can't even give a sexualized performance without being labelled as "crazy", "unstable", "insane", and "the new lindsay lohan"

6) Both performers and videos aside though, this version definitely takes the cake :) AND does a better job of saying what Miley probably was aiming to accomplish.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC1XtnLRLPM#t=19

I have to agree with this. The jeans shorts in the German video looked great, though why she used dwarves as a backup band is beyond me--obviously just another attempt to shock.

Except I lost interest in the remake of the video when the women kept going on about cutting off the penis. If I made a video singing about cutting out women's vaginas, people would not be laughing.

I admit that I haven't watched Thicke's original video of the song. I'm not about to either as I loathe music videos from all genres, except maybe that Massive Attack dubstep 'Paradise' which was smoking hot. Rap, PopTop40, and current rock videos are the worst though.

I still cannot believe all the outrage over the extremely minimal ass shaking, while Thicke continues to get rich ripping off Marvin Gaye with this fucking song.

quoted from above-- lol:

From the complaint letters to the FCC:

"But that does not lessen their pure entertainment value, as seen in the following sampling of the missives. Click on each excerpt [in the link above] for a larger version of the respective letters.

FCC officials redacted the names of correspondents, most of whom lodged their beefs via a form on the agency's web site.

The highlights:

* Cyrus accused of “licking the butt of a stuff bear.”

* “Humped him like a bitch in heat.”

* Cyrus “touched the genitals of an older man while performing music.”

* “The scars on our childrens minds cannot be easily erased.”

* Cyrus’s performance was “racist in that she was objectifying black women.”

* “Miley Cyrus needs to be spanked.”

* Woman’s 10-year-old girl “was compelled to bury her head under the covers.”

* “Much worse than that disaster at the super bowl with one of the jackson girls.”

* Dressed like a “whore,” Cyrus “put her face in a fake butt.”

* “It had children running to their parents, and parents jaws dropping.”

* “Miss Milly Cyrus should be fined and jailed.”

* Cyrus “groped a woman’s posterior—without hesitation.”

* “My daughter was even surprised of Slutty Cyrus.”

* Cyrus left “much of her lower buttocks hanging out of the bikini bottom.”

* “My family was horrified by this performance.”

* “She should be banned from all TV performances in the future!”

* Singer was guilty of “indicating oral sex, dog sex, etc.”

* “Good heavens! I’m certainly no prude, but even I was shocked.”

* Cyrus appeared “under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

* “Just disgusting and almost made me want to puke.”

* Woman’s 10-year-old niece’s “excitement quickly turned into shock.”

* “As an educator I have to stand up and say, ‘Enough is enough.’”

* “I was subjugated to 4 minutes of Miley Cyrus.”

* “Miley should be excommunicated from the music community!”

* “Where has censorship gone?”

^ This shows how fucked up society is that they let their 10 year old watch that! I wasn't even allowed to watch mtv growing up until I was almost 16. I mean I agree she looked like an untalented idiot but seriously people need to be in control of what their chidren watch and I don't think anyone under 15 should be viewing that any ways!

If something is shown on cable-- isn't the whole point that the FCC doesn't have control over that? That's why there's public television

Well, this is the essence of the thinking behind the 'A La Carte' Cable bill. While the FCC cannot directly regulate content of a given cable channel since its transmission does not utilize the 'public' airwaves, the FCC DOES regulate revenues flowing to cable channels. Under the existing 'cable bundling' arrangement, cable customers are not given the option NOT to purchase MTV ( or any other specific cable channels in the bundle ) while at the same time customers are being required to see a portion of their cable bill paid to MTV in the form of bundle revenues, even if they do not ever watch MTV. The new bill would change this, requiring cable customers to select and pay a particular amount for access to MTV only if they make an active selection ... meaning that if cable customers do NOT actively select to access and pay a monthly fee for access to MTV that in turn MTV would no longer receive any revenues from that customer.

Of course, given 'equal treatment under the law', all other cable channels would find themselves in the same situation of no longer receiving revenue money simply for producing channel programming, but only receiving revenues if cable customers actively select to access their cable channel and agree to pay a specific monthly access fee in exchange for that access. So this potentially places many existing cable channels at risk of bankruptcy ... because their content primarily appeals to a 'small' segment of total cable customers, because the demographics of that 'small' segment of cable customers isn't particularly affluent ( affects advertiser revenues as well as cable access fee revenues ), etc.

There's a difference between the two. The uninitiated masses wouldn't understand. As long as they see someone moving their butt (or hip/pelvic area) they assume it's twerking. Even Miss "I wanna be down" Cyrus can't do it well despite what the syncophants around her led her to believe.

I haven't even read this yet and possibly never will, but for those of you who have been following the Miley thing it could be interesting. Sinead O'conner writes Miley an open letter to warn her she is being 'pimped' by the pop industry.

i think her letter is a bit..idk, puritanical. a woman who gets naked and markets her sexuality will, in the end, be alone and miserable and washed up..of course!! please, what celeb, male or female, doesn't market themselves to be sexually pleasing..unless they are a goofy comedian or something lol.

Her performance was supposed to be a "F U" to Disney. The animated bear, her hair done like ears, and the big white gloves are evidence of that. She's not sexy so she went the vulgar route. She's appearing like she is rebelling against her handlers but they have more control over her than ever. Disney owns everything and if she wants to make money after puberty she has to show skin and act cheap. It's not new and fresh it's the same shit that the entertainment industry puts out all the time. Empty soulless trash.

As someone who mildly respects Sinead O'Connor I think it's more to do with the fact that this is how Miley is trying to break her image, by overtly "sexualizing" herself so there's no way anyone could see her in her old roles. Sinead's just saying that if you are talented you can do it in a respectful way without making the sexuality overcome you. I definitely see why you say that it's a bit puritanical, but I don't think those were her intentions.
