Not strictly. When the boss, Melanie, is around, she likes ot see us in gowns at least down to the knee. When she's not.... well.... some girls wear essentially strategically places bits of string- they look like that anyway haha!- and get away with it ;-) I usually just wear a meshy lacy top of sorts and small underwear or a basque or bodysuit with a sheer skirt, something along those lines :-)
Last night was a ridiculously quiet one again, tonight promises to be better but im on a date tonight so cant be there, boo! Still made an amount to keep me going until tuesday anyway, and more than thursday too :-)
I've heard platinum lace is fab, knew a lovely girl who worked there who could easily make 2 to 3 grand a night, secrets is supposedly as competitive as hell, so many girls and a little hostile too. Metropolis is one big family, we all help each other out, no sense of catty competition, everyone is rlly fun and lovely, a great variation of girls so we all offer something different to one another.... :-D Good luck anyway, please consider Metropolis, would be great to have you on board!

honestly im auditioning at secrets because they have auditions the day after i arrive in the country lol and I cant really afford to be waiting around for people to get back to me etc.
but once i arrive and sort out a phone and stuff, i'm gonna email both platinum lace & metropolis and then (if i get hired) pick which one i like the best
I feel like PL would have a lot of foot traffic because of it's location which is what is drawing me to it (but who knows if they'll spend tho lol) but metropolis does sound good and not catty so we'll see!

Does anyone happen to know if there are amateur nights being held in (one of) these pubs? Most of the information I find seems dated. Thank you in advance :)

Hi ladies! I've been scouring the boards for London threads and this seems to be the only one that isn't years old.
Any new goss?
I worked for over a year in the US and am used to the heavy contact dances, but I'm ready to try a new kind of hustle.
I've e-mailed Browns and they have asked me for pictures, so hopefully that pans out, although I know they are very difficult to get hired by.
From what I've read, my main hope is Metropolis, as it sounds the best overall - any updates on it?
Where are other London ladies working? :)

I worked a couple of nights at metropolis in november and wasn't very good. Im sure there are better options...just don't ask me where.

Hw not-good is "not very good"? I've heard the UK scene is really shit compared to the US one overall, so coming from that context I really have no idea what is considered good or bad here.

It was pretty quite and there were too many girls. I only worked there for two nights and I haven't worked in london for eight years before that. I dont really know how it compares to other london clubs but January is well known to be terrible. And yes generally money is much better in the US than the UK. Do you have a UK or EU passport? Otherwise you probably wont be able to work in london. And metropolis wanted a proof of address too. I didnt actually have one but they let me work a couple days without it.

Hiya britchick, thanks for getting back to me! I am a dual citizen so no issues there. Hmmmm, that's too bad. :/ I am quitting my full-time vanilla job soon to start freelancing, so I will really be counting on dancing for a while to support myself while I build up other things. I've heard back from the Griffin and Browns, the Griffin wants me to go in for an interview tomorrow, so hopefully that pans out. Are you working in London now?

No im not in London now. Unfortunately the cost of living in london is very high and income from dancing can be very up and down especially this time of year. You would probably be better off living somewhere else in the UK unless you have to be in London for another reason.

Just to let others know but I contacted the griffin and they're not hiring anyone for the near future as they have too many dancers at present.

Hmm, that's weird, as I've been asked to come in for an interview on Sunday. /:O I suppose they'll probably just tell me they will get in contact later?

^be prepared for taking a topless photo during the interview!
The Griffin is the only place, besides a ghetto club in LA, that has ever not hired me. They are super picky and yeah they will say they are not hiring when they are.
London sucks, and honestly the pubs are going to be rough if you are coming from the US. And I used to dance in LA, one of the shittiest places in the US to dance!

Do you think I would be better off trying to work in a club then? I am prepared for the shittiness I have heard abounds in London. I'm hoping it balances out at least somewhat, as in the US I was always a top earner, and I know how to hustle.

I wish I could give you good advice on where to go, but honestly I'm not dancing in London right now because I've tried half a dozen pubs/clubs (and worked at the 2 hardest places to get hired at in London) and hated it. The girls are beyond ruthless and I've worked with girls who will fight you for a customer in the US, Easter Europeans here are a whole other breed (and there are some pretty nasty British girls here too). The environment is just really negative and stressful. The money is incredibly sporadic, and add that to the fact that the cost of living in London is through the roof, it's a bad combination. It's really hard to sell rooms and dances because there is ZERO contact and the bouncers/hosts are watching you constantly, and the guys know this. Rooms come with an expensive bottle of champagne that guys usually don't want to buy. There are some big spenders but they're grab up pretty quick, and there's definite favoritism with the DJs/hosts with girls that have been there longer. The house fees are VERY high and there's usually a commission charge on credit cards. Tipping is absolutely non-exisitent here so that money is coming out of your dances, i.e you're doing some dances for free, you can't make it up in tips. And what you're charging for a room here is nothing compared to what you'd charge in the US.
I had some great nights when I worked, but overall it was not worth it to me... I miss dancing so much but just do not want to go back to that world here. I gave it about six months. I worked with a girl who has been dancing in London for ten years and is a great hustler and she taught me a lot, and did tons of research on SW, but it just wasn't worth it to me in the end. I made 3x what I'm making here in LA, doing clean dances at a club that took 40% of my money. If you read the reviews on the board, you'll see no one's talking about how great it is.
If I had to recommend somewhere to you I would say Sophistcats, it's a club so you get to pick your own days and work as much as you want (you do not pick when you work at pubs-- you will get some shitty day shifts and evening shifts and have to work them to get your one good weekend night shift) and usually fairly busy, but they're open very late and you have to stay until they close.
I'm guessing you're American? You need a passport, just FYI. They check everywhere in London.
Are you married to the idea of dancing in London? Cause it's a lot easier to make money in cities outside of London, and the environment is more fun/pleasant.

Hi Audrey, thanks for the detailed reply! I appreciate it.
I’m a dual citizen, so passports and work eligibility are not a problem.
You’re right, I’ve been scouring the boards and although most stuff is years out of date (hence why I brought this post back to life), the overall consensus is not good at all.
I’ve been working full time for a while now and am leaving my job to start freelancing, so as this takes a while to build up, I will need other income on the side. I figure I can give dancing a shot as well since I do genuinely miss it, but I’m not getting my hopes up for anything great – I am also looking at other flexible, part-time “vanilla” jobs.
Thanks for the recommendation. Where in London have you/did you work?

I've worked at a few pubs, the smaller clubs and then big super clubs, honestly I've worked everywhere, I just kept moving around cause everywhere sucked so much. There's a London thread with more recent info, I wrote up some reviews after going. Sophisticates was the best place I worked. But also known they will expect you to work 3 days minimum, everywhere, pub or club, so it is something you have to commit to, which is another reason I'm not working right now.
Now is not the best time to begin either, it go busier as March went along last year. Is travel dancing not an option for you?

Hmm, well, I've never really thought about it, but I suppose it could be an option... would that just involve travelling around and staying in different hotels and things? Which areas are good?
Sorry if it's a silly question. :)

Work outside of London on the weekends or every other weekend. Most clubs are pretty flexible. I've found it's a lot easier to make £ outside of London and the environment is more positive. But good luck on your interview, perhaps you'll like it!

I have been working at Ye Olde Axe during January. It is a small grotty old pub. No audition. You can turn up any night at 9pm and work. The only shifts you need to book in for are day shifts.
They didn't ask me for ID or address. They don't seem to care. The girls are mainly Brazilian and unfriendly. The changing room is the ladies toilet and is tiny. So it can be a stressful trying to get ready, my advice would be to get ready before arriving!!
Flat house fee and no commission on dances. You can charge what you want. I was regularly selling £40 dances... And it is actual lapdancing. Wheras a lot of other places in London are no contact.
The only issue I have is that I don't find that part of London particularly safe.

Hi Dorian, thanks for the good info!! honestly while I know I've read a lot of girls on here talking about the place's bad rep, etc., what you've said makes it more appealing to me! Im used to dancing in the US, very heavy contact, so I much prefer the idea of being able to sell actual lap dances. the only thing I'm worried about is the legality... Would dancers there run the risk of being charged for prostitution, etc.? Are you still working there? Also, I called yesterday and asked if they were hiring and they said no because they already have enough girls. Maybe I just got the wrong person on the phone, do you think I should just turn up there? Is there a dress code? And finally, how much is the house fee? Sorry for all the questions!

as far as im aware the club would be the one to get in trouble over high contact dances. Probably why most clubs are pretty strict about it.

They are very rude on the phone. You would be better turning up at 9pm one night and just saying you spoke to someone on the phone and they said to turn up at 9.
Its very unorganised.
House fee is £20 for 12-5. £30 5-9. And £50 after 9pm.
No dress code. Ummm I don'tknow about the legality of dances, but if the club allows it surely the problem is with the club and not the dancers personally??

Thanks for the response. Haha, sounds like I should just turn up then. :) I've heard that it turns into a kind of rockabilly club on either Friday or Saturday nights? Which is it?
Is there any particular day you would recommend I go in at 9pm?

One last question, a bit more random - what is the music like? Do girls have to bring their own?

Saturday is rockabilly... although I have never worked a Saturday so I don't know what it is like.
I would maybe go on quieter day like, Monday or Tuesday.
There CDs that you can play during the day or you can connect your phone to the sound system and play your own stuff. In the evening they have a DJ. Good luck!
