This exactly. Restraining orders are crap.
They are. Stalkers are sick fucks, and don't care to spend sometime in jail at least they got to their victim to talk or have sex etc.
Also Restraining Orders tend to piss these guys off! Better off letting them know you are aware and not afraid, they usually move on to easier targets.
Stalking is about control, not love.

I agree restraining orders are crap however it could give her some leeway to force the police to arrest him if he shows up at her house. As for the episode of law and order SVU yeah that exact episode went through my head and I strongly suspect that by getting a restraining order the perv will infact have to know her address just like in that episode. The problem is the police likely don't have the man power to sit outside watching her place to make sure this guy doesn't show up.

I don't know what state the OP lives in, but it doesn't sound like she meets the qualifications to get an order of protection. If she wants to have a legal document in place so that the police can actually do something if he continues this behavior, she needs to file for an Injunction Against Harassment (which I've outlined in my first post of this thread). Also, police are not mandated to serve injunctions. Essentially, when you get an order of protection it goes into effect starting at the time it is actually served. With injunctions against harassment they go into effect immediately, whether it is served to the offending party or not. Thus, he wouldn't have to see her address.

^In order to qualify for an injunction against harassment you need to prove that the person has engaged in a series of acts over any amount of time that would cause a reasonable person to be seriously alarmed, annoyed, or harassed. If your stalker is engaging in any behavior like that I do recommend going to the courthouse and filing for an injunction. Unlike orders of protection, injunctions against harassment can even be used against strangers. (Keep in mind that everything I'm saying pertains to orders and injunctions in the state of Arizona, the laws in your individual state may vary.)
