*bumping this thread*

I'm about to do my first ever Skype show with a long-term regular tomorrow night (paid via LCMS) so I'm getting all my stuff in order today.

Is NordVPN still a good option? Has anyone ever used ExpressVPN? (I found two articles that went into detail as to why Express is the "best VPN for Skype", but I have no clue how true or subjective that is.)

My main concern is that I just don't want Skype running slow or lagging, and I would also prefer it to be simple to use. I've never used a VPN before. I just want to be able to turn it on and open up/use Skype safely. Thoughts?

Edit -- I just paid for a ExpressVPN subscription which has a 30 day free trial. It is SUPER easy to use. Literally just click a "connect" button on the app to your chosen server. I ran some speed tests and nothing seems to be significantly affected. I will see how it goes on the actual Skype call tomorrow but I am very hopeful.

How did it go? I am looking for a new VPN so the timing on your post was magic.

I use CyberGhost and I love it.

Still use CyberGhost. Fantastic product and they have really good support too.

great! No issues, super simple to toggle on and off, very fast speeds. Live chat tech support was helpful in answering some basic questions and putting any of my concerns at ease. Worth the price (plus it's a tax write off anyway.) Would recommend.

I've been researching this and it seems that Skype by default is protecting I.P. addresses now, is this true? Do we still need a VPN for hiding location/I.P?

Just don't click any links or open anything a customer/potential sends you, as it could also track your ip address.

am I right in thinking all the IP address shows is the city you're in?

no, it can be more specific. There are websites where you can test it out, and it shows your IP address plus a map. I tested mine and it basically showed the general vicinity of my neighborhood. Like, street names around my house.

if you sign up for ProtonMail (much better privacy policy email service than google) they give you a free VPN
