Also just found a nice hardcover copy of "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" at a yard sale.

I've been listening to the audio book of "Off to Be the Wizard (Magic 2.0)" by Scott Meyer. The most enjoyable book since "Good Omens." Really guys you have to read this book. It is hilarious. OMG!!! So funny. Such funny characters and situations. Highly recommend. I started listening to "Spell or High Water" and so far just as good. Let me know what you think.

I started Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time," but my brain began to melt halfway through. So, I switched to the Elmore Leonard novels upon which the great television series "Justified" was based.

Very hard hitting & scary.
Also, it talks about battered women, & when they try to get help, they end up evicted.

So I've been settled for the easy reads lately since too much stuff is going on in life to be able to process anything above middle school level in my off time.
For this particular case, Terry Pratchett's Discworld series has become my "runaway from reality" destination. I'm basically done with over half of this 40-book escapade. It's really simple, funny and witty at times and it helps forget about whatever shit is going on outside of the book for a while, so if that's what you're looking for I'd recommend it. To be honest I'm thoroughly fed up with it by now and am looking to pick up something else for a time and then coming back to the rest of the 20 books, but I'm lately too busy to search and track down the books I'd want to skip to so I'm just binging on these. Any suggestions of something easy and different would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm....if you like Pratchett, you might enjoy his collaboration with Stephen Baxter "The Long Earth". It's still escapist but doesn't have quite the same feel as his Discworld series. If you enjoy it there are more in that series.

If you're looking for fantasy by another author I would recommend either Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series (starts with "Storm Front") or Seanan McGuire's October Daye series (starts with "Rosemary and Rue"). Both series are funny and escapist, and have more of an urban or modern-day feel, which I personally enjoy.

Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series (starts with "Storm Front")

Oh my goodness, thank you for recommending this! I had never heard about that series before reading your recommendation and now I'm on the second book. Reminds me a bit of the early Anita Blake books, which is a good thing. Unfortunately that series down the line became almost nothing but supernatural sex scenes to the point where it became unreadable.

I know what you mean, I got a few books into that series and just couldn't get through it. When you get to the end of that series you might want to check out Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series (starts with Ill Wind).

EAT HIM IF YOU LIKE by Jean Teulé. It was an birthday present and I would have to say that is very disturbing book. It is based on Hautefaye's incident where this young French nobleman named Alain de Moneys was tragically made the scapegoat for a whole town because of someone's else rude remark.

I'm reading a series right now called KingKiller Chronicles: The Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fears.

Ok, so that's not actually the title but it's pretty apt. It's kind of like if you mix a little bit of A Song of Ice and Fire with Harry Potter series. Also, the protagonist kind of has Mary Sue tendencies. It's almost like Twilight for men. But I'm enjoying it so far.

I'm almost done with it, but the author took a page out of the Martin way of writing books... as in write a bit, and then take a vacation for a few years.

(I'm also reading a book called Erasing Death by Sam Parnia which goes into detail of post-resuscitation sickness and talks about near death experience phenomena.)

Next I'm going to read The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.

I wasn't able to watch the series after reading the books, just all wrong compared to how I imagined it, like watching a bad remake of a good movie. But I'm thinking to try again now that I thoroughly forgot the plot 4 years later.

I'm on the second book of Dresden Files, thanks a lot again thatgingercamgirl!
I love the style and how it's packed with action, just one drawback though - Jim Butcher really likes to give a lot of details on crime scenes, and then when he's done a ton of details of how sick it makes the main character feel... it's a bit more blood and guts then I generally like, but it doesn't spoil the book overall.

Starling, I blushed ::)

This season has been amazing. It's hard to believe we're so close to the end.

Also, the leads in the adaptation of "Good Omens" have been cast (http://screenrant.com/good-omens-tv-series-michael-sheen-david-tennant-cast/). I think they made good choices.
