I'm with Jane on the no tits policy. I really hope they follow through on it. I've NEVER shown my tits in free chat, and hate how difficult it is to do a gold show without popping them out.
To be honest, I don't like the idea of tipping for showing ANYTHING in free chat. Take me private and if you don't like what you see, leave! But tits-- that shit isn't legal on the street! Why should we give it away for 35% of 5 gold, and free to everyone else in the room?!
^^^ it is very legal, just not practiced bc how society reacts.
FACT state of NC I can walk around topless just like a man.
It might be different for different states, like marijuana laws

In Canada it is legal for a woman to be topless anywhere, but the only ladies I've seen exercise this (outside of music festivals) is breastfeeding mothers.

Here's my theory about streamate placement:
I don't think hours spent online has much to do with our placement. I think that it's all based on earnings... so in theory a girl who spends more time online will make more than a girl that spends less. It says right in the my ranking tool that "Performers who stream regularly have better ranking than performers who stream less frequently. If you are online more, members see you more often and may give you higher ratings." I think that the reason they want us to spend more hours online is so that we will earn more for them. The my ranking tool I am sure is just a trojan horse. They want all the girls to have a certain standard of streaming quality as well as offering more of a selection of girls online at a time for their members.. and the way to guarantee that is to make girls think that they will have a better placement if they do all of these things. They also know that a girl who spends more time online will get more regulars which translate to more money for her and the site.
The reason I think its based on earnings is because I have seen girls in the top row who are online all day but not making very much, but then girls who are not online very much but making a lot in that period of time. So it evens out. The girls who spend all day online are probably making the same as those who are not online very much.
I mean when it comes down to it is streamate really going to spend the money to develop a complex algorithm for placement? Or is it like other sites such as MFC and chaturbate that have a very simple rule for placement. MFC is how much tips vs. time spent online, and chaturbate is how many viewers you have in your room. I'm sure for streamate it comes down to something just as simple. Is it earnings? Who knows.

Thanks to splitting, my only poor rating is time spent online as well. I clocked in at 18.75, lmao. My other scores are excellent and good.

I think you're right. The overall money made has to be a huge factor. Why can I, working an average of 9 hours per week right now, stay placed right next to models who are online ALL the time? It must be because the amount of money I make in my work week of 9 hours is similar to the amount they make in their 20 (as an example) hours.
Similar, why is a model using standard def with a choppy stream who logs on maybe once or twice a week placed higher than me and others working all the time while using widescreen and crystal clear steams? Simply because in the short appearances online she makes more than our longer hours spent online.
It all comes down to money. I don't know why they don't just say it.

mine is the exact same way. It could be the average, so if you have a big drop it lowers it.

It was actually your post earlier in this thread that made me come to this conclusion. I worked in website development before I started on this and even after reading all the threads on here that say "encoder is key", "fast internet will bump your placement" it just didn't make sense to me that this site had such a complex algorithm for placement. It would cost an absurd amount of money to incorporate all these different factors. Facebook algorithm cost millions and I would argue that theirs it a lot more simple than what us cam girls assume streamate's is.
I read a post from one of streamates largest affiliates about how they wanted streamate to have a certain look and using the HD encoder for video helped make the site look more high quality and professional. I just assume that the reason they are pushing all these things like HD encoder, high connection speed, is so that they can make the site a better experience for the customers. I'm sure that girls who put the effort into having a high quality stream do earn better which is why they are promoting but it probably doesn't have anything to do with placement. If they make us think that it does then a bunch of girls are going to run and upgrade their internet and start using the encoder. It helps them ensure we're going to use it and that they can have their site looking a certain way. I mean, would you use the encoder if you didn't think it helped your placement? I hate the thing! haha.

It's very sneaky of them to put the onus on time online.
For example, you might only do 30 hours per month or something and have a high % in paid chat, earn what you want, and be satisfied completely with how much time you devote to SM. Then SM are like "well they'd triple our income if they tripled their time here to 90 hours, so let's tell them How Very Important it is, scare these high earning chicks into being around more by acting like they'll lose placement if they only do a 'poor/average' 30 hours. Ker-ching!"
They forget that we chat amongst ourselves and know that the top rows aren't full of girls pulling crazily long shifts. Just successful girls who are good at their jobs!

Hours online only matter if your hourly isn't massive (over $100/hr on avg according to SM's calculations I would consider "entering massive").
Hypothetically, for example, if a girl never works more than 15-20 hours per week, but her hourly is $155/hr, she will automatically be in the top 3 rows. However, if that same girl with a $155/hr average were to work 30+ hours per week EVERY week and be in the "excellent" category with "time online," she would automatically be in the first row.
Your hourly and % in paid chat matter A LOT. If that girl's hourly is not massive, she better be spending a lot of time online if she wants good placement.

There are also performers in different contracts with the site that guarantee them top spots. Those performers don't have to fight for a top spot like everyone else does.

ohhhh i posted about this in the sm thread, im late to this lol
i notice my placement doesnt ever really change...even when i was doing my crazy 72 hour weeks...my placement didnt move up much (like 2 pgs in offline models)..and i was making like wayyyy more.
even this month i barely worked...and my placement is still the same as when i made like 5x as much. /:O
i was really thinking % in paid mattered more than $ because it would make sense to put the busiest girls on top...because they would get taken pvt quickly and be out of the way for the other girls...but mine sometimes is up or down 20% and it makes no change in placement.
i am going to try and get my bitrate thing fixed because its the only thing i have that's "Average", and see if my placement moves up }:D

Can splitcamming affect the round trip time? I have 26mbps upload and ping is 12, i have i5 processor and the rank report says that my round trip time is 459.
i split cam alot and mine came back 126 graded good, pretty close to excellent
my ping is worse than urs (i think mine is 21 and higher # is bad)
my upload is worse too..i have not even half the upload u have
i have an i7 tho...that might be it??

I can't do anything about my shitty internet, and I certainly don't do 90 hours a month. At least I have good ratings! ;-)
It's a bit more frustrating for me. I have the best connection I can buy and it's very good within my region, but being so far from the server I have unsolvable distance issues. No matter how good my connection is, there's a bottle neck on the international pipelines.
Europe or North America are the places to be.

Where are you streaming from. Distance from server will determine the lowest ping you are capable of.

Depends where you are! In the UK they are only now working on high speed internet. They have plans for where I am but there's no definite dates. Sickening to read about the amazing speeds in the USA. Until there's fibre optic in my area, I need to put up with an upload of under 1! This means my video stream isn't the best it can be, splitting is a struggle, and uploading videos takes forever! I've been camming like this for 3 years.

I know how you feel. I've been streaming with under 1Mb for over 8 years, but at a distance far greater than you from server. I just got fiber optic this week, but due to distance and bottlenecks, it's not much better despite showing 5x as fast on paper...so basically it's like driving a fast sports car on a congested road.

My service is bad also - I should be at 3 down and 3 up - but I have been at 1.35 down and .21ish up - I had a tech out this morning and they said it is my modem - the modem is new since january - waiting for my replacement now - anywho - can you tell me if you are using he encoder or have you tried it with any success ? Nikki,
0.21? That's rubbish. :-( I used to be at 0.37 and I would only run SM, with the encoder. I had my bitrate set to 300 (so with the added bitrate for audio, there wasn't much left over). Not sure how you'll get on with your upload, but you've got to try! You'll need to have bitrate at 200 at the very very most. I had and still have a resolution of 640x360 (if I'm remembering the numbers right).
Ps: my DOWNLOAD is 18! That's a whole load of use to me! Lol

Honestly I think that what you make overall is a much bigger factor than the number of hours. Because I've had a number of weeks and months where I've cammed embarrassingly little but my placement is pretty good considering, and I see other girls who, from what I can tell, don't work very many hours per week either but stay in the top rows. And there are other girls who cam more than I do, and have been on streamate longer than I have, who have a lower placement.
I wonder how many of these factors are actually calculated into their algorithm, and how much is theoretically tied to earnings which is the main factor, like "oh, if you work more and have a better connection then your placement will be better", but what they actually mean is that you'll make more money, and then in turn have better placement.
I do think that the number of hours are calculated to some degree, which is pretty evident when someone takes a long break (well, part of that is earnings too...nvm maybe). But it's also tied in with seniority (or overall past earnings or hours worked, or something), because if one of the top 15 girls takes a long break, she'll be in the same spot even months later. I've seen it happen.
Though now that I think of it, there are a few girls in the top rows who cam a lot and I'm sure the number of hours they put in has something to do with it because I don't think they're pulling in amazing money for every hour that they're on. Maybe there's some kind of threshold where the average amount of money you make per day or week over a period of time becomes a bigger determining factor than the exact ratio of hours worked and money made per hour because you have more of an established earnings history. Part of that ties into the above theory. If that makes sense? lol

I was thinking the same thing, but you said it better. I don't think it will translate to more money for us though. My fear is that they're purposefully fostering a competitive environment, in which models contend to offer more for less (not that we appear to need a lot of motivation). It's good for their bottom line. It keeps the customers coming back to streamate. It's not good for us.
I reckon you're right on the money. My guess is that money earned per day/week/month is the primary factor to placement. Improving streaming quality, increasing hours online etc HELP you to make you more money, but money earned is key.
For example - why did they give me Gold Show status when streaming in 256K with a very poor connection? ... when they're harping on about how one must stream in HD to get that status. The only answer is that my earnings gave me that privilege, nothing else.
It makes perfect business sense to put the highest earning models above lower earning models no matter what their streaming quality and hours on line.

Yesterday I kept checking my ranking while streaming, and I figured it would stay the same and update like, a day later or something. However, it seemed that my round trip time jumped all over the place.
Also, my bitrate had previously been around 625, and for the last few days has hovered close to 800, but it has not updated. I wonder why the round trip time is the only thing that updates in real time.

I just made the speedtest -
ping: 2 - downloading:63,97 - upload:48,67
These are crazy numbers (in Bulgaria the internet is affordable)
But some how my rankings shows something else - to be specific the Round trip time - which says it's poor.
I have contacted the support but they just aimed me to the 'How to improve...' page
So I don't really have an answer to what is stands for.
So does any of you have an idea what is that?
And how to actually imrove it?
I am using wired connection, HD enonder, and a core i7 laptop....
It's a mindfucking situation for me.
Thank you!

I haven't noticed that my round trip time has an impact on placement at all. Mine is all over the place, and usually shows poor and I stay the same in placement regardless what the round trip time is. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it.
