I was talking to another SW member about double standards and they bought up the fact that for alt girls the stakes can be just as high as for WC and minority dancers. I am pretty heavily tattooed. :/ Oh well. I made my choices a long time ago.
I have to disagree. As long as ALT girls, like myself, have a regionally accepted body and pretty face, we do just fine.

^ i think she's just saying that a lot of club will not hire you if you have a lot of tattoos, which is true. i knew a girl with a gorgeous body who couldn't get into centerfolds ( which isn't even the most high end chain to begin with) because she had a lot of tattoos.some clubs really put their foot down about that.

Ask yourself this?
Can you dance?
Can you out dance the local girls at the clubs you work at now?
Do you have a stage presence?
Can you pull men to the stage with your presence aka STAR quality & make it rain?
Do the other dancers hate going up on other stages when you go on stage?
Do you have lap dances lined up after you get off stage?
Do guys get more than one dance from you?
When you walk in the door of any place do head turns?
When you are on main stage does all the girls & customers stop what they are doing to watch YOU?
Do you walk out the door with more money than all the other dancers?
If you can't do those things, then you need to work on them NOW
Work on social media as in Twitter, Instagram followers, find an angle to do a youtube channel & get famous there? You want to be able to pull in customers on your own to any club you work aka money into the owners pocket
Move to Atlanta, LA, Miami, New York & get an agent to be a dancer or it girl in rap videos rather than Porn.
Get bigger boobs & Ass.
Network... Network with the girls, the club managers, the djs. Follow them all on twitter & instagram. Become a promoting machine of yourself & them. Become an asset they didn't know they needed until now.
Use your imagination & come up with funny skits to put up on youtube. Learn how to film, lighting & editing to put out a quality product. Which all can be done from an Iphone or android. No excuses.
Get great at taking selfies, take plenty of them with other hot girls & hot guys or celebrities.
You have to work it from many angles.. Those who focus just on the body here are Bananas. You can be the hottest girl, but if you don't have STAR quality, STAGE presence, out dance everyone there, out hustle everyone there you wont make it to be a feature dancer.
You also need to learn how to sew & make your own costumes to keep the price down on them.

This is REALLY true, BUT it's almost a hierarchy.
You can be super vanilla and have a cute face and be a bit chubby at the same club where alt girls have to be hardbodies.... where a comparably hot black girl won't get hired.
I HATE to make the comparison... but I've auditioned at clubs with black girls who were WAY hotter that me, but I'm white so I has hired and they weren't. Alt girls have to live up to higher standards than girl-next-door types and POC often have to live up to an EVEN HIGHER standard than that.
Agree. I am a vanilla white girl (no pun intended)without tattoos and I often got hired over a woc or an alt girl. However, blondes with large (usually fake)boobs usually got hired over me. We all know that there are certain standards when it comes to dancing. We all know there is a lot of discrimination when it comes to hiring. However, in many cases there is a reason for it (right or wrong). A club that generally caters to an upscale crowd is generally (though not always)going to be harsher on girls outside of accepted standards of beauty. Yes it is bullshit because beauty comes in all colors but in these clubs they've either found that the norm is what sells or assume this is the case. I've worked at several clubs where they either didn't hire girls with tattoos or they had to be covered.
So if you want to be a very famous stripper... (this is TOTALLY offtopic from YOU Jules, this is addressing the rest of the thread) I don't think it's offensive or "body shaming" for girls to be like "Oh well you need to lose weight/tighten up" because WOC are held to a VERY high and unfair standard in the adult industry.
It's not body shaming someone to tell them "the current standards for someone with your look are much higher than where you're at"... which seems to be the case for the OP. OP looks good. She's cute, she's got good hair and makeup. She could strip at a TON of clubs... BUT. To be a famous stripper she WOULD need to up hair, makeup, and body.
For the record... nearly every feature dancer I've ever seen who wasn't a "novelty act" was literally within 3-4 inches of my height when I was >5' and was lighter than me when I was ~100 pounds.
I worked with many featured dancers and all had in common was the fact they were all either very thin or very toned (not always the same thing). These women had either won awards, been in porn movies or been in men's magazines. Of course this is before reality television and the web (or rather the web was around but not prevalent). Most were white.

I think it's not just looks but BEING entertaining. Definitely use social media and update every day. Urban clubs are really into this. Other clubs only book if you're a porn star or not at all. I know myc club doesn't give a shit for feature dancers lol reminds me of a girl throwing a fit because they wouldn't hire her and she was all like "but don't you know who I am" lmao

I read the first page and scanned through the rest. I assume you want to be like Jhonni Blaze, Blac Chyna, Lira Galore, Nya Lee, Miracle Watts, etc. If you don't, disregard everything below.
I think a lot of the advice given here applies to white girls. Doing porn will not help you at all. It will help a white girl but not you. None of the feature black dancers (the ones hosting clubs, the ones getting booked in other cities, etc) do porn (Ok, Jhonni Blaze did a porn but she was established before that).
All of the big dancers have had surgery. All of them. 38 inch butt is not big enough. You'd have to get a fat transfer to get your butt bigger. You see which girls are popular these days. The exaggerated hour glass shape is what's in.
Your face is beautiful so you're good in that department.
All you will need to do if you want to be a big dancer is basically try to get your instagram off the ground. You need to have a lot of followers. The way to get followers is to post a bunch of sexy pictures. Throw in some pictures of you with expensive purses, clothes, and cars. You want people to look at your IG and think "this girl is living lavish... I also want to do her". If you want to get a lot of followers quickly, you could make a video for Worldstar. That will get you a few thousand followers. Eventually, once you get enough followers, magazines will contact you to book you for photoshoots. You should never pay for a photoshoot. Once you get into some magazines (Straight Stuntin is easy to get into and that's kind of a big one for the urban model/stripper world) then you'll get some type of following. Clubs may contact you to book you to dance. I'm sure agencies will also contact you so that they can represent you and book clubs/shoots for you.
However, I will say, I work around a lot of dancers that have been in Smooth/Black Men/King, have 200,000 followers on IG, they "date" rappers and the whole 9 yet these girls are asking me for a ride home at the end of the night cause they don't have a car. All that glitters is not gold. For every Blac Chyna, there are 10,000 dancers that wanted her spot but didn't get it for various reasons. One girl that was such a famous stripper that she ended up on a reality show texted my bf trying to offer her body to him in exchange for free studio recording time. Another famous stripper was at the club with some random guy asking me to leave with them for a threesome because that's how a lot of these girls make the bulk of their money. It's a very seedy world that you're trying to get into.
If you just want to make a lot of money while dancing, I recommend for you to buy yourself an xpole and some expensive long human hair. If you get really good on the pole like Mizhani/Spyda/Magic, you can work at most any black club and make good stage money. If you had pole tricks, a new weave, and professional makeup (from the club's makeup artist), you'd be golden in a black club.

I agree...Im in your shoes too...im 5'4" 34-38-39 and pretty muscular. I feel that learning pole tricks will do you so much b/c many of those big time girls can only two step, twerk, and ass clap...but most cant do a trick to save thier souls. KOD miami has quite a few slim girls who rock that pole and BANK!!!! Look at Pole Assassin, Murda Mamas, as for thin...look at H town Ciara...someone spent 9 G's on her and she is about our size. I feel that as long you have confidence, skills, great personality, and can do well. You can tell the ones who are hungry for fame and f---- rappers to get ahead vs the ones who hustle hard and nit let nothing stop them. Pole Assassin makes about 30 racks/ month and she dont look like no big booty stereotypical stripper...she leads a normal life like everyone else. Skrawberry is another one from Miami...tall skinny and BANKS. I thinl the big ass thing is mainly a Houston thing...in ATL/Miami...women our size kill it too. Just get your hair/ makeup/ outfits and you will be good.

I am surprised at the amount of people thinking extremely thin is the way to go. I think it's probably a regional thing to a point, but all the urban girls/girls that have become famous lately are very curvy. (curvy as in coke bottle with ass, boobs and small waist)
I was under the impression that curves are in fashion at the moment.

there's a reason why Nerd/ Cosplay ignores models that aren't white passing or light skinned Asian - the guys are hostile to the idea of other women that aren't hoodrats. my vanilla job right now is a comic book store and I literally get yelled at once or twice a week for having the audacity to be a brown woman and having an opinion at the same time.
They also come for a culture of stealing entertainment online. I love geek culture but.... fuck em.

Continental Agency probably has the best club 'connections' in the industry. With that said, the feature industry isn't what it used to be.
At the bottom line, there is only one valid business reason that a clubowner will agree to pay out big money to bring in a feature ... because he expects to earn back even more money. To accomplish that, the feature has to be 'advertisable' thus able to attract the attention of local guys who would otherwise not think about going to that strip club ... and hopefully keep going to that strip club long after the feature has moved on. This typically means that, beyond individual skills / appearance, a truly successful feature needs to have advertisable 'credentials' ... i.e. boxcover porn actress, miss nude ___ ... or some unique physical features ... i.e. midget, huge boobs, 6'2" showgirl ... which the clubowner can promote.
Obviously it's possible for girls without such 'advertisable' credentials to work as features. However, the pay rate is going to be lower ... perhaps to the point where the actual earnings as a feature, less the additional travel and accommodation expenses, results in a net earnings level that isn't any different than that which could have been achieved as a regular dancer.
Additionally, these days, working as a feature is guaranteed to generate tons of 'adult' images of the girl being plastered all over local media / the internet, as well as creating a huge IRS 1099 'paper trail'. With improving facial recognition search technology, and increasing requirements for IRS 4506-T 'disclosure' by potential employers / lenders etc., working as a feature is now virtually guaranteed to 'out' the fact that the girl has worked in the 'adult' industry. Depending on what the girl plans to do during 'live beyond stripping', this can exert a huge negative influence.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGhFleeZCjk&feature=player_detailpage
Also, if the truth be told, these days some features view their club feature bookings as little more than a means to justify deducting the travel and accommodation expenses to travel to a particular city for a week. Their REAL earnings then stem from booking OTC 'private sessions' with fans between club stage performances, not feature fees or club customer spending. And, obviously, such girls don't need to worry much about being 'outed' by feature publicity ... since their boxcover porn star publicity has already guaranteed that result.

I haven't worked at a club with features in years. Since Penthouse Tampa. They were all pets except a few. The only one I ever saw bring in any type of crowd was the midget. I think her name was bridgette. Her husband carried her around on his shoulders.

It's a lot of hard work and a big time and money commitment. Try getting into magazines like Penthouse and Playboy, get ridiculously massive fake tits (look up Chelsea Charms), do porn (as many others said) enough to become a known name, enter competitions (most BIG stripper comps charge you $1000+ just to enter, on top of that there's travel costs and costume). Being an insanely talented performer still isn't really going to get you very far unless your pulling basically an entire circus out of your vagina.
Honestly, I wouldn't try... And I have tried. I've been doing this almost 7 years, I'm one of the top pole performers in Australia, I've been on a TV show here 'Blokesworld', I've featured around Western Canada, spent thousands on feature costumes and still wouldn't consider myself anywhere near being a 'famous stripper'.
Oh, and side note - the whole lose weight thing is bullshit, don't let it get to you. One of the famous strippers I have worked with is definitely bigger than most girls and would probably get even more shit about her body from girls here but she photographs amazingly, does magazines several times a year and often has customers coming in asking specifically for her. Again - it's from massive magazine exposure. She is also an awesome chick (just a random side note)

I hate to be a dream stomper, but the reality is:
a) You make it, but only as a sexual role model - think Lovelace and Deep Throat. You gain notoriety for being a porn star.
b) You OD on drugs or get beaten to death or become a prostitute
The choices are even worse, my advice as a former stripper/model - if you're pretty do shoots (which you do need to lose a bit of weight) then get a good client that will give you $1000/wk and use it to pay for school and get out.

I think OP wants to be famous like... Blac Chyna or Mila Doll. Not like white girl 90's bunny famous, lol. In this new age of stripping, the famous strippers are thick girls who know how to charm on social media, look hot af and make more than $10k per month via stripping, sugaring, and being sponsored by rappers etc. The whole 90's blonde bimbo stripper thing isn't what's going to make anyone famous today, a good grasp on social media and a good location and ability to promote yourself will.

I'm sorry, but this post left me confused as to whether I should laugh or feel sickened. Did either of these options happen to you? To Melonie? To Sam? To any of the retired or semi-retired girls on this forum? Do you genuinely believe that, in this industry, our only options are drug addiction, violence, or meaningless sexual objectification? I won't even touch prostitution because there is absolutely nothing wrong with a woman having consensual sex for money as long as she is doing it safely (as in brothels, screening, testing, condoms, etc.)
Aside from "getting beaten to death," which is the only option you list that I don't have control over and can happen to any person, I can say these options won't be the case for myself. When I look at some of the other women on this forum, I see lovely ladies -- role models in their own right outside of just sex -- that I would be honored to call friends and be supportive of.
Sorry that this little rant might be off topic or offensive to some, but posts like this on a forum that is supposed to be about supporting other members of the adult industry just really stick in my craw.

I hate to be a dream stomper, but the reality is:
a) You make it, but only as a sexual role model - think Lovelace and Deep Throat. You gain notoriety for being a porn star.
b) You OD on drugs or get beaten to death or become a prostitute
The choices are even worse, my advice as a former stripper/model - if you're pretty do shoots (which you do need to lose a bit of weight) then get a good client that will give you $1000/wk and use it to pay for school and get out.
ummmm...Im not really sure why you are so upset, but if you think that the only road that ends for a stripper is so dark then I feel sorry for you. I am quite happy with dancing at the moment, thats why I plan on making it a career for the next 5 or so years. Thank you for your opinion but I really dont think Ill be taking it into any type of consideration.

Please don't think I'm being mean, but that's a terribly pessimistic view. I've seen people from perfect families with great jobs OD and career sex workers buy homes for more money than most people will see in their lifetimes. I can appreciate you warning the OP of possible pitfalls, but as long as she has firmly set limits and doesn't succumb to pressure from industry folks with bad intentions,I think she'll be just fine. @OP, you don't necessarily have to be a porn star, but becoming a famous dancer is extremely difficult. Sadly, even harder for women of color. My immediate advice would be to moonlight at bigger clubs that get celebrity clientele and get a twitter account. Sell stripping videos on c4s and maybe try camming so your stage name comes up more in searches. Yes, the adult industry can chew you up and spit you out,but only if you let it. In the meantime, just enjoy what you do and I wish you the best.
