Whee! That was fun.
But, all good things do come to an end. ;)

Aw, damn. He left. I was really waiting to see how he'd defend the short lifespan of our career. 'Oh, you think this is a career?' 'Well that's what you get for being too stupid for a real job?' Oh, the butt hurt is strong here.
And since we all know the moron is still lurking, lemme just drive a point home here. Many of the women who've responded to this thread, myself included, are considered 'high end' earners. I think of myself as on the lower end of 'high' or even 'mid-range' when I put myself next to, say, Audri or Sam (just two names that came to mind in this thread). There are plenty of girls in this thread who do in fact earn an average of $20 per hour. They're building themselves to higher rates, but that can be the upper limit for some models. Not everyone can make $150-200 per hour. It's a mix of skill, hustle, and luck to get to that point. There's no shame in that here. But you really do enjoy assuming that it's not the standard. Yes, there are girls who make so much per hour that they could probably retire at 30 happily after ten years of work. That sure as hell isn't most. If your career has a 10-15 year life span 'realistically' and you assume that the average cam model makes $25-$30 per hour over the 'life time' of her career (building, from, let's say $15 low to $50 per hour high or some such), that's still gotta address the fact that they don't have a consistent $15 per hour job that'll last them 40 or 50 years to build a retirement.
And yes, I know how tax deductions work. They're built to cover part of the cost of doing business. I have a damned good CPA (whom I have to pay and, yes, he's a write off, but I still had to pay him somehow), but the IRS fine tooth combs adult industry workers. Even when my cost of business is figured in and my gross income is reduced, I still owe all those nice, shiny taxes.
And don't get me started on the added sign-on bonus of needing more capital for everything now that I'm self-employed? House down payment? Even getting approved for a loan of any sort ever? Harder? Check! Gotta have more money for that still.
Too long, didn't read: I'm glad that you have certain views of how other businesses are run that are equally incorrect, but the bottom line is this is an expenses versus total income game just like any other business. If we have our sweet spot for rates and it's higher than you like, tough shit. Find someone whose intersection point on that graph and associated tolerance for bull shit is lower and higher respectively.
But thank you anyway. You've given us two lovely things--a place to send girls who are unsure of the need to raise rates who worry they won't get business/customer's will be more demanding (clearly, the cheap ones are the only people who've come to bitch) and a play-by-play break down of why those higher rates are needed to address the higher cost of living/industry risks and expenses.

OP's back&forth was starting to get under my skin a bit, but the .gifs are more than worth coming back to this thread. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: You girls made my day!
Also appreciated the cost & procedural breakdowns of camming. Very educational. :graduate: FWIW this tech-tarded stripper greatly appreciates the info you posted here.

Agreed, this thread was endlessly entertaining, thank you to everyone who contributed. And BAM! he proved my point about customers who want lower rates being cheap and rude;). Raise those rates ladies and cut those guys out of your life!

Awww he's banned.....
I just wanted to point out that cam girls are legal to pay for in most places while escorts are not.
I think that knowing you won't get arrested for playing with us is so much more valuable.
Plus 6$ a min seems reasonable to me considering most dudes don't need more than 7 min or so lol

While a little off topic, yet brought up on this thread -- I really hate the 35% return back to the performer. Even as a would-be customer (which admittedly, I'm not right now), I'd be so annoyed knowing 2/3rds of my money was getting swallowed up by the website just for hosting the experience.
Cam girls should get a big co-op together that offers a much lower rate and stick it to these other sites.

I'm not familiar with the challenges of discovery in the industry, so it may be a fair point on the advertising and affiliate programs.
But with regard to the anonymity, have there been more attempts by cam girls to use bitcoin in conjunction with skype? Wouldn't that resolve the issue?
Beyond that, obviously a non-skype solution where the site hosts and manages the chatting, streaming, banning, privates, etc for multiple real-time users is certainly no small feat. It just sucks they take 65% out of it. Especially when you have to pay taxes on top of that.

We ARE ABLE to earn 70 percent or so if we get guys sign up under our profiles and have guys buy our shows.
We are able to earn 20 percent (or so?) as commission on ALL of earnings the custies (who signed up under our name) spent on the other models. It is up to us to market ourselves heavily to have that 20/70 percent.
