Why the fuck is shitty stuff popular? I call it "the Justin Beiber effect." Apparently, the shittier it is, the more popular it is.
In order for something to be popular it has to be catered to teenagers. Teenagers are dumb as fuck. So stuff they like is going to be horrible.

Fun fact: 50 Shades was the most popular book among Guantanamo prisoners. Great fun for the family, yes?

^^From the article:
"“These guys are going nowhere, so what the hell”, Mr Moran said on Monday. “Apparently they’d been offered the Koran, but preferred 50 Shades”."
...That is a funny coincidence, I talked about wanting to burn the Koran and FSOG in a bonfire a few pages back. LOL!

I hate this book/movie mostly because it made every dude wanna be Christian Grey and led them to believe every woman wants to be Anastasia. Just browse through profiles on any sugar daddy site. It's eyeroll-inducingly obnoxious. The crap writing is just the beginning.

I came across this article today on yahoo: http://news.yahoo.com/fifty-shades-ask-e-l-james-twitter-chat-145756707.html
LOL, the author was SLAYED by all those twitter comments! Hilarious!
Some of the best comments to her were:
"My boss said no when I asked if I could kiss him and then I did anyway because no means yes right? Things at work are awkward." #AskELJames
— Anna (@thatswedishgirl)
"how do you feel knowing you've made your riches from convincing young impressionable girls that abuse is 'love'?" #AskELJames
— dione tennant // 29 (@alIonsytennant)
"How does it feel to have written the only book series that isn't a better love story than Twilight?" pic.twitter.com/KdmZkjbU3Q
— Clare Hardy (@ClareH222)
"What do you dislike more, Independent strong woman or the English language?" #AskELJames
— Trevor Donovan (@TrevDon)
"Do all these negative tweets sent to you seem abusive to you? I think it's romantic enough to be turned into a novel!"
— Stephan Krosecz (@Krosecz)

I watched some of the film on a plane because I was desperately bored.... at least it put me to sleep. Seriously, it was the dumbest shit I've ever seen. I stopped watching when he took her virginity, without is Irish accent even Jamie Dornan's hotness couldn't save it.
Admittedly up until then I didn't really see anything besides the normal this-is-a-dumb-fantasy-where-women-have-no-power-and-wait-for-me-to-give-it-to-them (wait... that's very movie) and didn't see any of the rape aspects.

I'm not really one to beat a dead Horse, here; but Twilight's pretty similar. Not suprising since 50 shades started out as fan-fiction for Twilight.

Not a girl i'd want. The other two are pretty cool though, even if one has to cook a little longer than the other (at least at the time these pics were taken).

What do you expect from a 'novel' that started off as Twilight fan fiction?
The difference to me is that this is mass-marketed book/film that is being pushed on young children and teens, and nowhere is there ANY awareness that what is being shown is an abusive relationship. If the writer acknowledge how unhealthy the relationship was that would be different. If you want to make rape porn or whatever, fine, go ahead. But don't show it to 13 year olds and tell them that's how everyone has sex.
I think I said the same thing. ;D

LOL! GMTA! I missed your post. It's pretty well known though, it's not outside the realm that two folks would post it independently of one another.
As far as Twilight goes, if it gets the kids reading... Could use some better subject matter, though.

I am writing a racy novel about how this vampire billionaire (if you've lived thousands of years, all that bank interest adds up) expresses his obsession for this girl by handing her his black Amex and seeing what she comes up with. There are lover's quarrels where he has to buy her more cars or take her on vacations in order to get her back as well. Do you think it will sell?

If 50 shades of shit can sell, anything can sell.

A little late to the party, I know. 50 Shades of Crap was on hbo at the hotel I was staying at last night, so I figured, why not.
Im a pro domme, and was taking a break between clients.
I just read all of the comments on here, so im not going to repeat what was said, but..yeah...
Im in total agreement with this film being a representation of abuse, not bdsm.
Horrible movie. Bland characters. Surprised Melonie and Don would let their daughter get tangled up in this piece of shit movie.
