Write bad reviews everywhere you can on that place. Contact bbb also. What a bitch! Your hair and how you feel about it, is your money. Im so mad for you. I would not give in until I ruined her business.

Surprise, the salon was closed today. Why would a salon always be closed?? It says "Open 6 Days a week." Well, it wasn't open on Monday or Tuesday....let's see about tomorrow. I made a friend call and leave a msg about an appointment. Even if she gives me my money back, I'm totally writing the worst yelp review, reporting her, everything.

I think I've moved on from shock, to sadness and now I'm at the total ANGER stage! Grrrrr!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your hair. The Walmart California brand Hair pills can make your hair grow fast, within two months. Massage your scalp with some oils too.

Awww. Was hoping you'd at least be able to get in touch w/her..see about tomorrow, & if not then contact your Chamber of Commerce. Tell them you're trying to resolve something with a licensed business that doesn't seem to be open hardly ever despite it advertising being open 6 days, & that you'e already contacted by her phone w/o an answer. See if they'll give you her legal name..
Also, I'd start contacting your state's licensing complaint department, under Business Professional Regulation, file a complaint, cosmetology/esthetics section.
Also, I bet she did not display a beauty license..it doesn't necessarily mean she doesn't have one..I've been to a lot of salons that don't have them displayed on the wall, & by law they all have to.
So I would report that as well. As well beginning the file w/ the Better Business Bureau.org. I'd start getting this rolling now.
Try your state's Attorney General's Office..
I understand about writing a bad review..not saying it's not a good idea..my feeling is, she's dodging you, & she will most likely continue to do so (I hope not though!) & eventually (maybe sooner than you think) is going to abandon/pull out of there, & just open up somewhere else w/a totally different name, so by you doing that is not going do much, if anything.
Hence, my above suggestions^ & to start it now, as soon as possible.
Also.
Do NOT worry about, (if you do happen to see her in the meantime) all the above affecting her giving your money back..I had a salon under state investigation & still got my $ back.
Good luck, hon.

You should start writing those reviews! Write them everywhere you can imagine and take pictures! (You don't have to show your face though). I've written some scathing reviews about bad hair salons I've been to and several people wrote back saying thanks for saving me from wasting my money. It really does work, thank God for internet reviews!

I just went in. I'm crying so hard right now!!

She had the AUDACITY to tell me "Highlights don't go all the way to the root"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And looked at me like I was CRAZY!!!!! And when I was like "Look how much my side layers are choppy, thinned out and uneven and my two sides don't even match!" And she was like "Well sorry and all but maybe I can make them match...." UHM NO! I told her I do not want her to do my hair if she can tell me straight faced that "highlights don't go all the way to the root." And she goes "Oh well I am not giving you money back."

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried being diplomatic saying hey look, you did not give me what I asked for at all and considering that you don't even think you did anything wrong I do not trust that you'll achieve the vision I have for my hair so all I want to do is get my money back. And she refused.

I can't believe this just happened and a grown woman, a supposed stylist and salon owner would be so deranged.

Wow I am so sorry... :(

I would leave all the worse reviews possible online, on various websites like some members here said... Is there any Afro-american hair salon near you? Where I live it's possible to get good quality hair extensions (16-18 inches) of real remy hair for cheap around $100 a pack. Many girls I work with buy their extensions at those stores instead of spending over $500 in "upscale salons".

We'll start leaving as many terrible reviews as you can. Yelp, Facebook, google plus, Angie's list, BBB. Any little review site you can find. Post photos of your hair so people can see her hackjob. Do not swear in your reviews. Be professional and descriptive.

Thanks guys.....

I wrote a very descriptive and calm review on yelp and also reported her to the BBB. Called the Chamber of Commerce but they said she's not listed with them and the best thing I could do was write a complaint to the BBB. I'm going to write a review on Angie's List too and any other review site I can find.

I'm totally taking her to small claim's court.

Good! When you file your court case, be sure to add on everything, time lost from work, additional $ needed for re-do's/wigs/products etc, upset caused.. also time spent trying to chase her a** down..you can also add the cost of filing to your amount requested.
Edit: Ok, sorry, I just saw that you'd seen her, & she refused returning your $. What.the.actual. F**!

Don't forget to file also w/your State Board of Professional Regulations! They will send a rep out to investigate.

Agh I just wrote a whole post and it got deleted grrrrr!

Update: I went into a really nice and highly recommended salon today (should have gone there in the first place but thought it was too pricy! Oh what a fool!) and the stylist was speechless. I showed her pictures of me just the day before The Incident and she couldn't believe it. Took so much time with my color to correct it and we did have to cut my hair into a chin length bob to get rid of all the damage and thinned out layers. And guess what? SHE WOULD NOT CHARGE ME FOR IT!!!!!!! Just refused to take my money!! So I tipped her $$$$ and bought product too. What a difference from that disgusting hag!!

Going into work tonight, let's see how my new 'do goes over in the club.

Not to be mean, but I've just been sitting back with the popcorn with this thread. I am sooooo glad that you were able to find a competent stylist to help you out of this situation. Your new stylist did everything in the book right and even went the extra mile with you. THAT is how you do customer service. That first "stylist/owner" needs to take some lessons.

My night went pretty well!!!! I'm the ONLY girl with short hair at my club, it never occurred to me that we all had long hair :) the guys seemed to enjoy it and complimented me on it. Only one dancer was kinda rude, she looked at me and said "Uh you look....different. I guess." I didn't ask her so not sure what the deal was. Oh well, all that matters is the guys seemed to really like it!

I'm so happy you found a good stylist that fixed it up for you! That was so nice of her to do it for free, if I were a stylist I would too. You should write a good review for her if you haven't already. And good for you for sticking up for yourself! I cannot believe what a nasty bitch that woman was to you. And LOL at her saying that highlights aren't supposed to go all the way to the roots, I would have laughed in her face. Hopefully her business fails, what a loser.

Hooooly SHIT, dude. I'm speechless at how that hairstylist treated you when you went back to talk to her. Maybe she refused to refund you because she's so fucking terrible that she has no paying customers and that was her only income for the month?

Ugh, I'm sorry. But at least you found an awesome new stylist who's a good person too!

04-24-2015, 11:01 AM
omg hoola I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm very happy you found a good stylist that gave you a bob that you love. You're gonna love short hair. It's so much easier growing long healthy hair out from a short full cut than trying to fix damaged long, thin hair. I made the mistake of trying to salvage the damage and if I had just cut my hair short a year ago, my hair would've been same healthy length already.

Hair salons are so hit or miss. I was tired of paying $600 to get my roots done in Manhattan so I gave the formula to my nail lady and she gets me to the best blonde I've ever had for $50. My roots are white, no hot roots, and not one hair fell out in the sink. She didn't even use olaplex and my boyfriend commented how my hair feels so soft. Its amazing really. I was so pissed for wasting all my money in Manhattan. Hair salons are such a gamble.

I'm glad your first shift with short hair went well. Dont listen to the naysayers. A lot of girls told me to get a wig, wear a weave, the housemom even brought me a fake ponytail to wear a work. I was sick of it and wasn't doing well moneywise so I threw it out and my last shift with short hair I was the top earner in a dead dead club. Confidence is key! I bet you look fabulous.

Hey maybe thats why the salon is never even open in the first place? lol she's ruining her business herself. I was looking for a lady who does extensions on Yelp and came across this one lady who would literally argue with the bad reviews saying it was their fault! Some people just do not know how to run a business.

Congrats on the hair success at work!

Edit: In the meantime, you can go to another salon for a CONSULTATION ONLY. Show them your hair, & get their feedback, have them write it down if possible!
Take pictures, & hopefully you have 'before' pics, IF you need them for the court case.
I honestly feel she will give your $ back. Try to stay as calm as possible, when you talk to her, but FIRM & confident!.
Edit again: Bring in (if you have) a 'before' pic & show her..if you don't have one, don't worry about it.

Here's some links http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/lawsuits-court
http://www.bbb.org/

Without hazarding an opinion whether she has a cause of action, she should probably consult another stylist for possible services as an expert witness.

OK I'm so soooooo mad!! The lengthy yelp review I wrote for that horrible salon?? It all of a sudden was pushed into the "not recommended" review section!! Wtf?! They have two other reviews and they are both five stars (how that is possible I do not know) so it looks like they are a five star salon! If anyone with any review accounts would like to write a one star review, pm me and I'll let you know the place. Grrrrrr, so unfair. I bet the salon owner lady is totally laughing her ass off.

She prob had her friends/relatives write those good reviews. Did you report her to BBB or your state?

HoolaTwister
05-30-2015, 12:17 PM
Yes I did report her to the BBB. They said she has not responded at all. I'm not sure what the next step is for them. And yes, I'm pretty sure her friends and family wrote those two five star reviews. On the second page, where yelp (for whatever lame reason) puts the actual reviews, there are reviews that say they got their hair styled nice by someone else but when they came back all the staff was gone and she wouldn't tell them where to? So she is basically a shrew who can't even keep staff.

I'm not sure how to report her to the State? I looked and looked but was so depressed and gave up on the website. Super confusing :(

HoolaTwister

I'll write a google review too.

About Yelp -- They definitely manipulate their reviews. They're almost like an online protection racket!

http://sfist.com/2014/09/04/yelp_is_allowed_to_manipulate_ratin.php

http://www.sddt.com/commentary/article.cfm?SourceCode=20130930tbc&Commentary_ID=140&_t=Growing+number+of+businesses+give+Yelp+ratings+ one+star#.VWoOqaZHbCQ

While it sucks that they moved your review, it's most likely not personal. The "hairstylist" lady (scare quotes because her knowledge of hair and styling are obviously questionable) probably just purchased a ton of ad space from Yelp so her salon gets the best algorithm for filtering reviews. An additional Google review is a great idea though.

ETA: State reporting will probably be through the health department at the county level. Can you go to your city's chamber of commerce?

HoolaTwister

For we frugal folks with long hair (as requested in the confessions thread):

So I used this girl's tutorial for the main cut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ-TDoJX1zU

And then I blended the haircut using this lady's "cut into the hair" technique, seen at 5:30 (she's less fun to watch, but the technique of cutting into the hair really does work): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLqRMH5nlcA

So as I did each different layer / section of the first tutorial's cuts, I'd use the second tutorials technique of "cutting into the hair," which helps blend each layer and make the cuts look less blunt.

At first I was pretty nervous and cautious, but then I really started to get the hang of it and had fun doing it. Cutting hair became more and more intuitive and less and less scary as I did it.

I watched the tutorial a few times before attempting it and then stood in front of my mirror with the video playing during the actual cut. I found it easiest to do topless with my hair straightened. Definitely buy haircutting scissors if you go this route - they're nice and sharp (can be found at Walgreens or basically anywhere).

Be sure to straighten your hair and cut it dry for these techniques. Have a brush and comb nearby to ensure that your hair is gathered nicely and tangle free for each section. And cut conservatively until you get a feel for what each cut is doing to your hair. It won't look perfect when your hair is bone straight, but it'll look and feel great once you've showered afterwards and styled it normally!

Thanks, Charlie!

Hoola, I thought you'd already went to chamb./comm. & she wasn't a member, so nothing could be done?

Look/google/bing your State Board of Professional Regulation - Cosmetology. You can report her, & they will send a rep out to follow up. They may or may not do anything. I reported a licensed hair dresser who left bleach sitting on my head, (lucky I still have hair @ all) & they basically did nothing. I did get my $ back & an apology.

With BBB, they are giving her time to respond, they say she hasn't, so ask them what's the next step? They're prob waiting to hear from you? This's prob your best bet @ this point.
I'd forget about Yelp & all that, you tried, & it sounds like it's fixed, or she'll just have more people write good reviews to counter it.
Good luck, I hope it works out. If not, surely in time she'll get hers.

Doh that's right! I did contact them and she wasn't a member ugh

I do have to report her to the State board. This is just so so unfair. Every time I pass by the place I shudder. You know, when I was there she was talking so much sh*t about a boutique across the street and the coffee shop next door, how horrible they both are. Well it's funny because she gets a coffee at that place every day (the barista told me) and I saw that the boutique is having a fashion show and she's gonna do the hair. Maybe I should stop by and let them know what she thinks of their business.

EastCoastDancer01
05-31-2015, 11:12 AM
I cant believe this bitch is still in business! I figured she would have your reviews removed or hidden, she sounds very conniving and sneaky. The fact that all her good former employees quit and she now refuses to tell people where they work now is just fucked up. Definitely call up the boutique and let them know she's talking shit about them, and tell them word for word what she said. Remain anonymous though. Most importantly, report her to the state board. Did you write your google review yet? I would also HIGHLY recommend going on RipOffReport.com. When people do a search on her business, that'll be one of the first things that pops up, and it cannot be removed!

The thing that bothers me the most is that she's gonna do this to some other girl. Her measly clientele probably consists of simple one process root touch ups and soccer mom haircuts you know? But some girl or woman will stumble in there and have their beautiful hair fuc*ed up just like I did. And I wouldn't wish that upon anybody.

OP - perhaps just leave a negative review on Google, have your contact information there in case anyone wants to hear your full story, and call it a day? Sometimes these sorts of things can result in simply extending the pain that you've already endured (by jumping through hoops to try to bring the other person down). Maybe it's time to dust your hands off and move on?
