I want to read a story about an autistic girl/woman who falls in love with a handsome vampire.
I don't even know if that exists.
It's called "Twilight: The Emo Depressive Saga"

I intend to subscribe to thepireatebay.
Haven't been there for a while. Need to catch up on how to use it. Mostly I downloaded obscure stuff and classic video game roms. Then I downloaded a huge Johnny Cash compilation and got a warning from my ISP for every single track.

Dude just get an iTunes account. I'm not bagging on you but musicians got to eat too, they still only get a percentage of sales of albums and then still have to tour to make money...….Pay for music please.

Agreed.
I recently met my sister's bf's family. His dad is a composer. I mean that's what he does for a living. He has BMI awards on display. I didn't get all the details. He must make a pretty good living because they have a really nice house.
Anywhoo, just agreeing.

I'll say McCoy, because he was facing the challenge of taking on a role played by a beloved actor.

So, I'm not without my nerdy hobbies. I don't get into sci-fi fandoms, or any of that shit. My nerdy hobby is radio. I've held a GMRS license for over 10 years, and I'll be testing for my Technician for amateur radio shortly. So, I got to apply that to the workplace recently.
Fun times. We're having a fundraising open house this weekend, and, since I'm one of the ones who has to play hostess for these things, it's been a light duty week for me. She about freaked when she found out I'd been working in the shop on Monday and Tuesday, but all the more reason for her to send up for manicures, after all.
So, it's been a week of working at the equestrian center. The latest pet project I got was radio work... we don't have a dedicated radio person, and company radios for the rest of his business ventures are handled by the vendors, and since I dabble in radio, I got stuck with it. The equestrian center had a GMRS license before July of 1987, so they were grandfathered in when the FCC stopped issuing GMRS licenses to businesses, and the individual GMRS licenses don't cover employees of a business for using the radios. So, they're able to do that because they've held the license for so long and never allowed it to lapse. The GMRS license is $70/10 years.... a business radio license can range from somewhere around $530 for each simplex frequency to close to $600 for each duplex frequency. So you can see why the equestrian center wants to maintain their GMRS license, especially as none of the unlicensed services (FRS, MURS, etc.) allow the use of repeaters or store-and-forward systems.
So they run two repeater frequencies.... one as a main channel, mostly for events which span the entirety of the facility (which is actually four separate properties), and one for trail rides in case they need to get in touch. Previously, they kept having to turn them off and on in order to keep the 'blister pack pirates' off of them, because they were set up so that equestrian center employees could use blister pack radios... the problem is, a lot of people bought them, and we'd get a lot of unauthorized access on the repeaters if we left them on, because they just used single tone CTSS, and the blister pack radios identify it right away. Suffice to say, we really don't want our customers, students, etc. having to be present with some of the things the pirates did and said over the radio. So, I got tasked with putting together a radio plan. So we ended up going with BaoFeng, because the equestrian program is a nonprofit, and doesn't have the expenditures budget of his for-profit companies (although the equestrian center itself is a for-profit organization).
We decided that not everyone needs to hit the repeater, especially since everyone is assigned to crews, and each crew has a lead. So, we figured we'd limit repeater access to supervisors/admin staff, crew leads, and riding instructors. So they went with BaoFeng BF-888S radios for regular crew members... they're UHF only, and only monitor one channel at a time, and they can be programmed with up to 16 channels.
Crew leads got BaoFeng UV-5Rs, as they are still readily available and inexpensive.
Other supervisors and admin personnel were going to get GMRS-V1 radios, but the programming limitations are too much on those, and, for the same price, you can get the UV82 series radios with 128 programmable channels. So, the crew leads and admin personnel have radios with dual watch that can monitor two channels at once (the UV-5R and UV-82).
I got the fun task of programming them all, so I made a template for each radio type. The nice thing about the BaoFeng/Pofung radios is that they're easily programmable with a free downloadable program called Chirp!
Rather than have everyone on separate frequencies, I slotted one frequency for category, and separated them by programming different DCS codes, so they can operate on the same channels without interfering with each other. The admins wanted a 'backdoor' channel that they could talk on without the other radios being able to access it, so I slotted one frequency as an admin channel. They wanted one that wasn't listed, to be a 'secret' channel, but I declined... I could've programmed another GMRS frequency or a MURS channel, but I don't see why they'd need that, especially when everyone has cell phones, anyhow.
51938
I reprogrammed the repeaters, as well, and had them use split DCS codes. That'll keep the blister pack pirates at bay. It also renders the blister pack radios they previously used obsolete, so they'll probably end up being sold off, especially since those are typically 1.5 watt radios, and the new rules make it legal to operate those under license by rule so long as the tranmission power is under two watts. I think the FCC's hand was forced on that one, so they just upped the wattage of the Family Radio Service and co-banded it with GMRS, because there was no way they were going to be able to even begin pursuing the various manufacturers putting out those blister pack radios and all the unlicensed users. Anyhow...
51939
Once the channels and DCS codes were put in, then I set it up so the channel name was shown on the display, rather than the channel number or frequency. Dual watch on the UV-5Rs and UV-82s is enabled by default, so all I did there was give channel priority... wish I could restrict the A channel to just the repeater frequencies, but they haven't set up Chirp! to be able to do that yet. The 82s also have an FM radio receiver, which I disabled... I really don't want them draining down the batteries of these radios listening to music on them. Then I disabled the ability to go from channel mode to frequency mode (VFO - where you can program in specific frequencies) and also all other menus so they can't mess with it.
Then I named each radio, and I disabled VHF transmission, because no VHF frequencies are programmed into those radios, ergo, there's no need for them. I could've added the MURS frequencies, but there are still several GMRS frequencies which can be programmed in later if need be, and I can always update that at any point later on, anyhow. I restricted the UHF upper and lower limit to bracket in the GMRS frequencies, because that's all they'll be using.
51940
51941
They're starting to do major equestrian events that'll involve a truck or two to transport horses and a coach bus to transport riders to the events, so he asked me if I thought it would be worthwhile to program in a "travel" channel. All of these frequencies are itinerant, so I really don't see why we couldn't just install 25 watt radios in the trucks, program them to the same channels, and use the 'event' channels on trips.
And... since the equestrian center vehicles tend to be my responsibility in the shop - leaving the other mechanics free to focus on the vehicles and equipment of his other business ventures - he said he wanted to make it so that every seat had a USB port so that people could keep their tablets, cell phones, etc. charged while traveling. Which is doable, but it's going to be a pain in the fucking ass to do all of that and run the wire so it isn't exposed. But, once he gets his mind set on something like that..... So, I feel like I know what my next big project is going to be.

Just got to the Red Wedding in the novels. Not quite as brutal as the HBO version. Now I'm looking forward to meeting a certain non-show character (not Patchface).
Also, I've found myself wondering what it would be like to have Dr. Hannibal Lecter as my psychiatrist. From the books, I gather that he used his patients to toy with and extort money from. Still better than the last psychiatrist I had. I also wonder what his hourly rate is and if he takes my insurance.

A good friend loves anime so I'm trying to get into it, so we can share excitement about it. We have kinda different tastes tho (I'm a firm horror/thriller/mystery chick, he likes action and cute shit). I've started Naruto because it seems like an anime staple but ... yeah. Not my thing. It'll be something I watch here & there. I'm enjoying Castlevania, liked Perfect Blue, am getting through Fullmetal Alchemist, and he told me to add Paprika and Paranoia Agent to my to-do list. If any of you have suggestions based on those, I would appreciate more recs!

Yeah...Naruto is no better than Pokemon in my opinion. Boring asf. One Piece is so long and never-ending that it's honestly hard to give a shit after a while. Like, jesus christ, when will it stop.
I know some others are supposed to be MUST SEES (like Bleach, Fairy Tale, Inuyasha, Trigun,
blah blah freggin blah...) but I get bored with the almost uniform plight of most anime characters....everything is cause for a theatrical conflict - complete with overblown speeches and hyperdramatic fight scenes. When every anime is doing it it gets hella old.
I like anime with an updated feel to it or at least a damn good plot. My attention span is shit so I usually recommend these for anyone stepping into anime life:
High School of The Dead
Samurai Champloo
Afro Samurai
YuYu Hakusho (the best fucking anime ever)
One Punch Man
Btw, I'm a horror chick too! It's so bad that even my six yr old loves scary movies. I wish they made more REALLY good horror flicks. I'm tired of watching Sinister over and over again.

I think it's more likely that SpaceX will transition to SpaceXXX type products than ever put a person on Mars.
They might change my mind if they can land someone on the Moon first. But they won't.
This is just more of Musk's usual exaggerated self promotion. Pure science fiction.

I’m kinda proud of myself. Our repeater transceivers were 100 watt LMRS units which could store over 500 channels. The low setting was 25 watts… way overkill for what we were doing. So there’s a pile of Kenwood TK-360 radios that were old business radios my employer had. Fabricated two boxes, took the internals from those radios, arranged them in the boxes, installed heat sinks and cooling fans, hardwired them into a 12v power supply, then tied them in together with a Jiseai duplexer. So now they retransmit are five watts, which is more than enough, and I’ve programmed in two channels each, with the second using standard +5 deviation and single tone CTSS, so that, if we host an event with other organizations, they can access the repeater as well, since they typically use those Motorola MR series and other blister pack radios which can’t do non-standard channel deviations and split tone DCS.
It’s hilarious to me, because pissed off custies like to throw out, “you’re just a stripper” (or something similar) as an insult when they get asshurt upon finding out you were serious when you told them what you don’t allow.

In the terminator universe I want you on my side
It’s not that big a deal. I just took the internals out of two UHF handhelds with damaged cases, figure out what size I’d need to make the boxes, cut out the metal and bent it as needed, cut out holes for the controls and connectors, cut vents, added the heat sinks and fans (both were donated by members of a ham radio operators group I’m a part of)… the biggest problem was necking down the 12v power supply to 3.7 volts for the radios themselves, so what I ended up doing was scouring Ebay for inexpensive 120v converters, then tied those into a single 120v feed with the 12v supplying the fans and the 3.7v supplying the radios. All in a day’s work.
There was some soldering involved, and you have to be careful with that to ensure the solder doesn’t disrupt the connection between the power supply and the contacts, because solder has really high resistance.
The antenna was already in place and the hard line was already installed, so it’s not like I set up the whole tower or anything.
