It’s not that big a deal. I just took the internals out of two UHF handhelds with damaged cases, figure out what size I’d need to make the boxes, cut out the metal and bent it as needed, cut out holes for the controls and connectors, cut vents, added the heat sinks and fans (both were donated by members of a ham radio operators group I’m a part of)… the biggest problem was necking down the 12v power supply to 3.7 volts for the radios themselves, so what I ended up doing was scouring Ebay for inexpensive 120v converters, then tied those into a single 120v feed with the 12v supplying the fans and the 3.7v supplying the radios. All in a day’s work.

There was some soldering involved, and you have to be careful with that to ensure the solder doesn’t disrupt the connection between the power supply and the contacts, because solder has really high resistance.

Well, sure. Everyone does that before the first cup of coffee!

I don’t know. Electrical and electronic stuff just clicks with me a certain way. Majority of what I do in the shop is electrical diagnosis. When I ran power to the shed in my backyard, I did all that myself, as well.

I am convinced electricity, particularly automotive, is witchcraft.

AChildOfBoredom

It’s not that bad. The problem with modern vehicles is that so many people teach this notion that the voltage drop test is the be all, end all of electrical diagnosis. Well, when you’re dealing with systems which use Pulse Width Modulation, a multimeter is way too slow to read that, so the reading you end up getting is incredibly skewed. For example, if you compare voltage readings between a CAN-H and a CAN-L wire, the offset you get isn’t going to look right.

I took a class on electric diagrams because I wanted to learn more about circuits, etc. I thought I was a smart guy and the class would be filled with regular joe electricians so I skipped the intro class. Three classes in I realized I had self-pwned. I'm glad I learned that lesson early in life.

Lets put it this way... I remember where i WAS when i read the Red Wedding. Sitting there waiting for a bus, and all of a sudden i'm like OH MY GODOH MY GODOH MY GODOH MY GODOH MY GOD. Yeah, it's stayed with me since that was a paperback.

Would have been 2001, maybe.

Why is she trying to solder a motherboard? The circuit board is made of multiple layers to conserve space. She starts heating the top layer she's going to screw up all the layers underneath.

Like some girls with guns, she is a pretty girl posing with something someone handed her. Your combination of beauty and intelligence is not commonly found among the general population

Okay, you need Disney+ to see this, The Mandalorian is really, really good. It's the best Star Wars content since the original three. It's so good, I believe people not into Star Wars will like it.

The twitter responses are funny!!

Someone at the newspaper worded that headline knowing that editor or whomever checks wouldn't catch that.

Finally finished "A Feast for Crows." Didn't hate it, but it's definitely my least favorite so far.
The bit at the end was hilarious, especially since I thought I had a few chapters to go (forgot about the Appendix).

Now onto "A Dance with Dragons." Hope I finish it in time for "Winds of Winter"!

Yeah since it's an mmo it's kind of a money sink on both buying the game and maintaining your sub. Plus then there is all the cosmetic cash shop stuff that I just can't resist...I'm awful! I'm not as bad as one of my friends though who has dumped 4 digits on it so far on cosmetics and collectibles; he makes me feel better about how much I spend on it.

But for me it's worth it, since it's both a fun game and also a social media for me since I play with a group of friends. I'm at endgame and my group is currently progressing through the (second) toughest fight currently in the game. We're still getting our asses handed to us, but we're trying!

Can someone see if this includes the base game for Final Fantasy xiv or is it an expansion?

You're right I love it! I've only watched two episodes so far and Henry Cavill is killing it. He was made to play Geralt. Everytime he grunts or says Hmmm, I crack up.

The Yennefer actress is good too. At first I thought she may have been too young for role but she's pretty good.

RE: The Witcher.

I thought it was ok. It'll be better when they get to the novels and stuff can extend a bit and it's not as episodic. Currently they are just doing the first two books, which are both just collections of short stories. The first five episodes were all from the book "The Last Wish", the final 3 were from "The Sword of Destiny." They still have 2 (I think, possibly 3) stories from Sword of Destiny, but after that it's all novels. So after they finish that it should be one story cut across several episodes. More like Game of Thrones was.

Thank you! I just bought it. I was hesitant to purchase it because the price is so much lower than the other options. I thought there was a catch somewhere. For some reason I can't get my Amazon page to switch back over to English. I let my mother use it for one hour and it's like it's not even my computer anymore. :'(

Agreed, there were "timelines" which is the new thing now in shows (thanks, Westworld) and a ton of exposition, but I have very high hopes. I really enjoyed the series and I bet they do a 5 season arc
