OMG!!! STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS WAS SO AWESOME!!! I really can't get over how much I love the movie!

Just got back from seeing it and....

HAAAAAAAAAN!!!! WHY?!?! I know, thematically, it was to parallel Obi-Wan's death in Ep IV, but still! Now we'll never see the original cast together on screen. NEVER. When the Falcon returns later in the movie, I was like, "Yeah! Han and Chewie to the resc-- oh." And I knew Luke wouldn't get much screen time, but I was hoping for a bit more than that! I was slightly terrified that he would be behind the Supreme Leader's hologram, like a twisted "Wizard of Oz," so I'm glad they didn't do that.

Also:

*Really liked Finn, Rey, and most of the new cast. I was afraid BB-8 would be stupid, but I adored him and now want to buy the remote controlled toy.
*Orange goggles alien lady looked a little too prequel-y. And how did she get Luke/Anakin's light saber? How did Kylo get Vader's mask? Why didn't Luke make sure it was destroyed in the funeral pyre? Were the Ewoks supposed to take care of it? And what is the story with C-3PO's red arm?
*ADMIRAL AKBAR!

Overall, really enjoyed it. One of the only movies I'd consider seeing twice in the theater. I'll admit to tearing up a bit when the theme music and opening crawl started. "I'm sitting in a theater, watching a new Star Wars movie!" I felt like a little kid.

Invisotext:
The guy never would have again reprized the role, anyway. So what do you do with him in the first act of a trilogy that has a habit of whacking old guys from the previous trilogy. "Oh him> He's off.... buying Tibanna gas, he'll be back.. sometime." Han had to die. Were GODDAMNED lucky with one more Han Solo movie, which would have taken the virgin fucking mary back in 2005. It was an intense scene, and a good way for the character to go out. Plus KYLO REN in that scene!!! It establishes Kylo as someone teetering on the edge, and chooses the Darkness. Most importantly, the scene matters on multiple levels. Ending Han Solo's character arc, and setting up Kylo Ren as a BEAST!
Invisotext ends.

No one read that until you see the movie. Especially you, Electra, but all other stripperweb star wars fans out there no matter what number they exist in. SW fans, too.

I know I couldn't believe it. The horrible way Han Solo died. His own son killed him. The surprise and then sadness on his face. I almost cried. I still think there is a chance he may not be dead. Another thing, at first I got the feeling that Rey was Han and Leia's daughter, then I thought, nope that's to easy. Then I thought. nope it has to be Luke's daughter. And Finn, I'm not sure.

Well, in Rey's vision she looked about six or seven. I'd think if Han and Leia were her parents at least one of them would have recognized her. I also think she is Luke's daughter (plus, that idea sets up Luke's very own "I am your father" moment. Star Wars has always been about family first and foremost. They have part of a third generation with Kylo Ren/Ben Solo, but without someone on the Light-side the family dynamic just doesn't work. Rey, being the Jedi lead of this trilogy, literally has to be a third generation Skywalker or the main theme of Star Wars is lost. Also, if you watch it again, Han begins to tell Leia about Rey then the scene cuts just as he begins. This happens several times. I think she is his niece-in-law and Leia's niece. Why else would Leia send Rey to the Jedi planet and not go herself. Also, look at the look on Luke's face when he sees her. He knows. Any man would.

After Kylo Ren's rampage at Luke's academy, he may have decided that Skywalkers were just too dangerous to be trained (there's a two out of three Darkside score among trained Skywalkers, and only Luke knows how close he, himself, came while dueling his father on the Death Star II). This may be why he left her with a memory of a family that would return to Jakku as long as she stayed there and did not leave the planet.

Han's death was rumored as soon as it was announced that he'd be in the movie. In fact, Ford wanted him to die in "Empire," which is why they did the whole carbonite thing. I was holding out hope that they'd let him live just to go against expectations, but as soon as he called out "Ben!" on that bridge, you knew what was coming and it didn't make it any easier.

I would have put money on Rey being Han and Leia's kid. That trailer where the goggles lady alien is going on about eyes cuts directly from Rey to Han, giving the impression that there is a strong connection between them. Now everyone's thinking that Luke is her father, which would be the obvious choice. So I think they'll shock us by having her father be... Snoke, who is a reincarnation of the Emperor? Maybe that Darth Plagueis guy?

A couple other thoughts:

SO glad to see this movie unspoiled! Although I really, really wish they'd left Vader's helmet out of the trailers and let it be a surprise. That would have been an incredible moment.

Why did they cast Gwendoline Christie and never show her face or let her do anything badass, and then have her shut down the shields without a fight while Han and Finn were making jokes about shoving her in the trash compactor?

Lucas apparently had extensive outlines for the sequels before the Disney deal. They surely wouldn't have been as good as what we're getting, but it would still be fascinating to see his original ideas.

Going to see it in 2 hours at 8:45 am for craps sake so I can get 2 good seats at IMEX theater near Lincoln Center. The middle seats were taken for literally 2 weeks (we have assigned seats here). My friends keep asking me shit like "do you think Snorp (sp?) is Darth Plagueis?" So I have to see it to know what they're talking about.

I thought it was better than episodes I, II and III, but not as good as the originals. I loved that it had the "look and feel" of the originals, and the sound was superb.

SPOLIERS
Was it really necessary to make Rey the best person ever at everything ever? She has to be the new Han and the new Luke? That being said, I still liked her character as a main protagonist. So pissed that Leia is not a Jedi master, though. She's supposed to be a Jedi master. That's what Luke does in episode VII of George Lucas' original imagining of the nine-part story: he trains Leia (someone who is also uber-strong with the force) and together they rebuild the Jedi order. I bet if Carrie Fisher were as young as Daisy Rider (or whatever her fake porn star name is) then she'd be a Jedi. Pfft...Hollywood.

Edit: Forgot to mention that Kylo Ren is as much a little whiny emo bitch boy as Hayden Christensen's Vader. You're not scary, now go write in your blog about how you're going to cry later and watch My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic until you feel better. That's a good boy. Who's my big man, killing Daddy? You are. Yes you are! Here's a cupcake.

Saw this last night. After hearing all the negative reviews, and the steep box office drop, I went in with low expectations. Overall, I enjoyed it, but felt it was a little too long. Yes, it helps a LOT if you already have a thorough knowledge of the comics, and I can understand why many average moviegoers may have been confused as hell about certain things, like Robin's costume, the Parademons, and especially the time-travelling Flash cameo.

Also:

Kinda got lost on how everyone figured out everyone else's secret identities.

Really liked Ben Affleck's Batman, and Jeremy Irons' Alfred.

Loved Gal Gadot (and her accent) as Wonder Woman.

Did not care for this version of Lex Luthor, although it's not really Eisenberg's fault. I may be harboring resentment that those early Bryan Cranston rumors weren't true.

Oh, and Batman seems to kill a lot of people. That's not right...

Surprised that they're apparently doing the "Death of Superman" story. I wonder if they'll adapt the comics and include Cyborg Superman et al.

Did you notice that the actors who play Bruce's parents are Maggie and Negan from "The Walking Dead"?

Bonus: the trailer for the LEGO Batman movie ran ahead of BvS. Awesome.

It's supposed to be a prequel, set just before the first movie (the 1977 original). This isn't a main sequence film. Rey and Finn and Poe aren't in it. Disney hasn't done a very good job of explaining that. Good news, though, is Ewan McGreggor is open to an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie...

Its about the people who stole the plans for the original Death Star.

If any of that makes sense.

R-209
04-10-2016, 06:12 PM
I wonder why they thought "Rouge One" was a story that needed to be told? We already know that they succeed in stealing the plans, so where's the drama? And why make yet another movie set before "A New Hope" when there's so much interesting ground to cover between "Return of the Jedi" and "The Force Awakens"? I think the answer may be: DARTH VADER. There have been rumors that he appears in this movie, possibly playing a large part.

There's a very brief shot of the Emperor's guards (the red guys) in the trailer, so it seems likely that the two of them will show up. Vader=$$$

And the red guys were my favorite Star Wars figure as a kid. They had cloth capes and were just so damn cool looking...

Raziel

How else are you going to have Darth Vader? He dies in Return of the jedi. Disney is not stupid. Wanna use Darth Vader, gotta make a disconnected movie of it. One doesn't pay four BILLION dollars for a property and not use every aspect of it.

Wow...

Gaiman previously stated that he would not be adapting the novel without Pratchett, who died in March of 2015 of a rare form of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Recalling a conversation with Pratchett’s longtime assistant Rob Wilkins, Gaiman explained why he didn’t want to adapt the work.

“Terry and I had a deal that we would only work on ‘Good Omens’ things together. Everything that was ever written – bookmarks and tiny little things – we would always collaborate, everything was a collaboration. So, obviously, no.”

However, the author had a change of heart after he received a letter written by Pratchett, intended to be read after his death, urging Gaiman to write the adaptation himself. Gaiman made the announcement that he will be penning the adaptation at a memorial held for Pratchett in London earlier this week. It was also revealed that the adaptation would be in the form of a six-part television series.

To begin...

Mark Hamill will return to his role as the Joker (http://collider.com/batman-the-killing-joke-mark-hamill-voicing-joker/) in the animated adaptation of one of the best-known Batman stories of all time, The Killing Joke. No word yet on whether Kevin Conroy will be back as Batman.

Speaking of Batman, I recently saw an earlier animated movie, Year One. The actor who voiced Batman here would later go on to play Jim Gordon on Gotham, while Gordon is voiced by none other than Bryan Cranston.

The movie contains what I believe to be the first instance of any version of the character dropping an F bomb:
