One obstacle to replacing actors with CGI- their voices. Whoever voiced Tarkin did a good job, but I can't recall how closely he matches Cushing. Some actors have such inimitable voices that no one could do them justice. I've never heard anyone do Bugs Bunny like Mel Blanc did. There was an animated Batman movie where the actor did a really good impression of Mark Hamill's Joker, but you could still tell it wasn't him. Good thing he's still with us!
Read a rumor that Disney is creating a "phonetic library" of James Earl Jones' voice, so they can have him play Darth Vader long after he's gone.

Speaking of the expanse, there's a scene where Miller uses a voice modulator to copy Julie Mao's voice. I bet we have that in 30 years.

Has anyone seen "The Santa Clarita Diet" on Netflix? After seeing the latest "American Gods" trailer with Ian McShane, I had to wonder what Timothy Olyphant was up to. Later, while randomly browsing YouTube, I found a clip of him on Conan promoting this show, which started the very next day.
It's fun and quick- each episode is only half an hour. Drew Berrymore costars. I watched the first episode without the slightest clue as to what it was about, which made it more fun.

I suspect that as technologies get better, Disney will edit in a better Tarkin and Leia.
Probably. There's precedent for it. Maybe they can get rid of the stupid musical number in Jedi and get Greedo back to shooting first.
.IMHO Tron. Watch it in 3D - CLU sometimes looks real, where you can forget him, I.e. Uncanny valley crossed.
It helps that Clu is supposed to be artificial, and kind of old.

In the scene on the grid he's the same age as Flynn was when he entered. The point being, in some scenes you don't notice he's not real. Tarkin has close ups and his skin, which admittedly is very very difficult, looks a little artificial. Others he's good. But the real UNcanny Valley is Leia. This is Star Wars. The pinnacle of effects. This is my opinion, of course, I'm only a well informed layman in these matters.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they improved Leia for the home release; at least I hope they will.
Something else they need to get rid of is Jabba in Ep. 4. They replaced him with a less horrible model, but it still looks bad. Plus it's just an unnecessary scene. And they even kept the original dialogue from the script, which doesn't match up to the Jabba we know from Ep. 6.
Although Han's "You're a wonderful human being" line is now accidentally funny.

^^IMHO that Jabba scene is like adding a mustache on the Venus de Milo. As someone said the other day ::cringe::

I forgot about the tail stomp! Sure, they couldn't find another way to maneuver Harrison Ford around where the stand-in actor was, but maybe that should have told them it was a bad idea in the first place. Jabba would have had Han killed on the spot for that.

Not to mention that the inserted scene repeats the dialogue from the Greedo scene, just a couple minutes before. We get it, even Han gets boarded sometimes.

I don't think so. I'm pretty versed in comic lore and i don't recall any Marvel/DC crossovers where Galactus fought anyone. Probably just a fan theory.

Galactus faced off against Darkseid in a story called "The Hunger (https://www.amazon.com/Darkseid-vs-Galactus-John-Byrne/dp/1563891824)."
I suspect Disney/Marvel will buy DC in a few years. How much money would "Batman vs. Wolverine" make? Lots of possibilities before they get to "Avengers vs. The Justice League" in 2055 or so.

I stand corrected.
i doubt Warner Brothers will let DC go. Disney might have piles of money, but Time/Warner has a few of its own.

I just saw it and I thought it was very well done. I imagined the Bilquis scene as a more graphic way. As this giant (v-blank) swallowing the guy, the way a python swallows a mouse.

^^Yes - he does it fairly frequently.
ELuxx I thought that Bilquis scene was kind of weird but maybe it gets explained more later. The scene with Anansi was fantastic. I really geeked out when Odin named himself Wednesday, because Wednesday is actually "Odin's Tag" or Odin's Day. I caught myself looking at the TV and saying that. Geek Power = Maximum!

When they leave Krypton, Kara is older than Kal and is sent to protect him. But Kara's pod (in which she doesn't age) gets diverted and she lands on Earth when Kal is fully grown and already Superman.
Unless that all got changed with the reboot they just did in the comics.

Supergirl has been hinted at as being more powerful than Superman in the comics at various times as well, the reasoning being that Clark has spent his whole life learning to control his powers and is almost always holding back while Kara does not. However, since Superman believed he was fighting Zod, he would probably be fighting at full strength. So this version of Supergirl is unequivocally more powerful.
Kara is much better at keeping her secret identity than the Flash. But why does she wear glasses in her own apartment or the DEO?
I'm guessing that was Doomsday we saw at the end. Wonder if Superman will be back? And poor Martian Manhunter. The writers keep having to find ways to take him out of a fight since he's crazy-powerful.
Also, American Gods. Last night's episode was the best yet, owing mainly to the Laura and Mad Sweeney scenes. I'd take an entire series like that.

Nah. It was Reign (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Reign_(Prime_Earth)).
Odette Annable has signed on to play her. She's similar to Doomsday, but specific to Supergirl.

I kinda want to see it, even though superhero movies aren't usually my thing. I like that it was a female director who directed it. The movie made history at the box office. So yeah, I would watch it. I'll probably wait until after it leaves theaters and is on streaming sites though.

:P It's terrific. That's my non-spoiler review. Saying anything about it, really, is a spoiler since most people aren't as familiar with WW's origin as they are with Superman, Spiderman or Batman'. As in where she gets her powers from, etc... How it is she can pick up a tank and that stuff (Hint: No other Amazon can do that, there's something else about her). That's all act 1. Act 2 is her in 1918 London, dealing with the gender roles of the day and a bit of politics. There's a lot of amusing moments where she is faced with stuff that was par-for-the-course in WW1, meanwhile having been raised among nothing but warrior females she has no frame of reference to understand what she's seeing. She's a bit naive but not, annoyingly so. She's never seen a baby before, for instance. But they don't stay on the fish out of water story long. Act 3 is all Wonder Woman. There's a scene with her crossing no-man's-land that will knock you flat. It was just a great scene.

The last movie Patty Jenkins directed was "Monster" with Charlize Theron. Not a bad resume.

Most of these ideas are from comic books and fan theories

3. Batman vs. Predator
4. Prometheus Fire and Stone

Know what's weird? I have never, in my life, encountered the word "syllabub." It is apparently an English drink/dessert of some kind. I first learned of it yesterday while reading "The Princess Bride," which I talked about in the book thread. The weird part is that I just watched tonight's "American Gods" and the same word pops up!

Everyone knows the famous Superman comic in which he fought Muhammad Ali, right?
Ali has a daughter, Laila, who was a boxer herself for a time.
There is currently a popular show featuring Supergirl.
Why hasn't this happened already?

alittle self boast moment, and I cant get into too much detail, but I just finished a little Mini book to go along with the infinite glory comic from Cali comics.it's not my usual style of art that i did, but I've also done more than a few character concepts that remained true in the actual bo9oks that are currently out, but its a really good series so far. only books 0 and 1 are out for physical books or downloads- a nice break from the norm and getting back to my comic roots ^_^

Yeah syllabub was a drink popular during the Victorian era, when there was no coke, etc. It tastes kind of like a warm alcoholic milkshake. I haven't had a second one. Some people still drink it.
