Jason Momoa, Kevin Conroy, and a whole host of my favorite comic book creators are coming to KC next month. I'm torn between spending the money to go meet them all, or going to my favorite club!

Momoa is like, 300 by himself! Though, I'm more interested in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. Autographs are looking hard to get without spending a pretty penny though.

The convention is called Planet Comicon. Looks nuts for where it's at.

always go to cons when you can. panels are always worth it...even with the smaller cons. though if you get time and money, NYCC, Emerald city comicon, and SDCC are ones worth putting on a bucketlist to go atleast once...as is star wars celebration. Clubs are always there, but a good panel or signings at local conventions are rare treats that chance yearly and con to con.

I've never been to one before, and if I'm being perfectly honest, the thought of going to a place crammed with people is very daunting for me. Crowds and I don't get along. That said, I really do want to go. It's just a matter of getting the anxiety under control and making the decision to just do it. This one looks really awesome, and it's only 2 hours away from me. That's hard to beat, and I am expecting a sizeable refund soon, so maybe I won't have to choose one or the other!

normally the free swag, and early previews and such alone can make it worth it ! pop some antihistamine to help dull the anxiety abit and just enjoy it.. also have a blast watching cosplayers and just how much work and how amazing some of their costumes turn out to be! ( and trust me, look at enough cosplay photos you learn very very quickly that there are so many utterly, mind boggling gorgeous women dressed as everything from ivy, harley, gwen etc all the way to some of the most obscure indi characters and as a woman and comic fan from day one, is lovely to see so many gals, and gys utterly destroy sooooooooo many stereotypes about fandoms

Morrigan is right - go. You'll be glad you did. Especially as a writer you need to see a con. There are people that really find themselves at cons and it's fun to see. Plus the cosplay is incredible. I used to think it was dumb til I went to one. Nothing like a lot of happy people in a huge place filled with things that make them happy.

its not bad, some cons are cheaper some are way more expensive.... but like Emerald city , the ? second largest? on the west coast next to San Diego - most tickets are already sold out https://www.emeraldcitycomiccon.com/Tickets/Buy-Tickets/

Have you read Hickman's Fantastic Four or FF? That's a commonly mentioned "best of" for them. Really great stuff that builds into my favorite event, Secret Wars. Brings in the truly multiversal aspect of Marvel. Otherwise, 4 by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (or something like that) is phenomenal and focuses on the family aspect of the team. Otherwise though, if you base them off the movies, yah they suck. I remember I used to think they were a joke before I really got into reading them.

Agree Doom is best though. Books of Doom remains one of the best comics I've read, and I've read A LOT

Yes, I just don't understand FF's characteristics at all. Even in the silver age, they're so self righteous and dry. Mister Fantastic is often boring and Invisible Woman is quite nagging. Meanwhile, human torch and the thing are secondary characters at best. I know that Mister Fantastic was created by Lee and Kirby to be dull but he has not changed in 50 years. However, when Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman had Franklin Richards than they were interesting. This is only because Franklin is an omega class mutant like Legion or Iceman :) Victor von Doom is quite interesting because he is a more fleshy comic character.

I definitely agree about the silver age FF. They were very one-dimensional. I think modern FF stories have changed that though, particularly for Sue and Reed. Sue has really come into her own as one of the most powerful characters in Marvel, especially when her kids are threatened. Her ability to manipulate micro forcefields in someone's arteries to cause a stroke.. terrifying!

For Reed, his genius is what fascinates me. He often neglects his family accidentally when lost on a project. He's a troubled genius trying to do right by the world.

I like the Ultimate Reed the most though, especially after his fall from grace and transition to The Maker. Perhaps the only villain on Doom's level.

That said, I get the dislike of the first family of Marvel. They're definitely not for everyone.

hey SG gets credits though for being that " annoying and overly thoughtful" friend to wolverine ( laura, not logan/james ) and even gave her a pet wolverine ( Jonathan ) thinking laura could talk to wolverines like she can squirrels id say doing anything like that and NOT pissing off that quick to temper Howlette blood is a pretty good skill

Can't believe I just found this thread now!! I'm a HUGE nerd - video games, anime, TV shows, Disney movies, movies in general, books, some comics... you name it! I LOVE cosplaying and attending cons, such a fun (altho expensive) hobby :)

Check out Altered Carbon on Netflix. I've seen the first half, and it's fantastic!

Second half of Altered Carbon down. It's even better than the first. It features Dichen Lachman pretty heavily in the second half (she's only in a few flashed in the first five episodes). Folks may remember Dichen Lachman from Dollhouse (Sierra), Agents of Shield's second season (Jiaying, the season's big villain), The Last Ship (Jesse) and a few guest appearances on Supergirl (Roulette).

I would love to see Storm and Black Panther's relationship in a new film. Either bring Black Panther into an X-men film or bring Storm into an Avengers film. However, I confess that I don't understand Scarlet Witch and Vision's relationship.

Vision has fought his entire life to try and be perceived more human. That pretty much culminated with his marriage to SW, and her subsequent manifestation of two children using chaos magic. An appropriate comparison would be Pinocchio. Vision just wants to be a real boy and get out from underneath the shadow of his creator.

I'm so excited about the discovery of a "new organ" in the human body (it's basically fascia tissue.) The articles keep mentioning a detail about the discovery & it confirms something I noticed when I was caring for a terminal cancer patient many years ago.

I just binge watched 25 episodes of Attack on Titan on a long haul flight. I originally watched the first one and gave up half way through, but because 15 hours with nothing to do except listen to the guy next to me brag about how he is a director at a bank and has a 10m line of credit .... It really gets interesting.

Yeah, definitely. I actually sort of liked Terminator: Genisys or however it's misspelled.

ALSO: Finally saw "Justice League" last night, after putting it off forever due to the massive backlash. It's really not that bad. Gal Gadot outshines everyone, of course. And I liked this version of Flash more than I thought. Don't know why they didn't throw in Green Lantern while they were at it.

i think DC is holding back on more GL stuff for a little bit until the stench of the GL movie wears off more. im more interested to see what they do with the supposed slew of harley movies.... which i hope they do something that focuses on her romance with Ivy more, as that really is imho one of the most natural feeling relationships in comics..well as natural as anything ms quinn can be involved in, besides Ivy looks after her and shes been much stronger in my opinion after beating the hell out of joker and walking away for good.

I think people only remember that movie when Deadpool insults it. Last I heard, the next GL was going to be a Hal Jordan/Jon Stewart buddy movie, which would be awesome.

Not yet, but it surprises me how quickly movies go from theater to Blu-ray to Netflix to HBO to basic cable to network TV. In a couple months, "Infinity War" will be on right after Jeopardy!

It's like "The Last Jedi;" not a perfect film, but not even remotely deserving of the hate it gets. Maybe Russian bots are responsible?

Next: "Infinity War." I am looking forward to this movie. If one of the main Avengers is to die, I'm going to guess Stark.

I can't wait for Infinity War! I messed up though. I scheduled my company for a field exercise the weekend it comes out, so I'm going to have to wait a week or two before I get to see it.
