I'm going to try to reduce the amount of gluten I consume and increase vegetable and greens intake. I always eat whole - grain, but I think it tends to be a filler in places where I could substitute with a more nutrient - dense food. Like if I make chicken salad, I should eat it on a bed of spinach instead of on pita.

Summer is here, so I'm bringing green smoothies back, too.

I'm kind of irritated that I don't feel and look as healthy as I should. I mean, I'm nit picking. But like, I eat so healthily, exercise, focus on self care, get plenty of sleep.. just seems like I should look and feel effortlessly radiant all of the time. Some people treat their bodies like garbage disposals, and they look fine.. (i know it'll catch up to them over time, but still!)

That's why I'm looking for ways to optimize health even more. And I think I could do better with veggies and greens!

Re: clay masks

I didn't realize that using apple cider vinegar to mix with the clay not only results in a more neutral formula, but also makes it a million times easier to mix than with water. Facepalm...

I was literally just looking for a clay mask. I usually use Murad's clarifying mask but I guess I didn't look for it hard enough because I could not find it on there site. I did a little research and found Lush which is a store with great reviews for there products and I also found Aztec Indian Clay which I hear girls rave about. So I brought a pound of Aztec clay for under $10.
Sometimes natural products break me out really bad but fingers crossed on this one. Murads clay mask is $38 a tube but it works so well for me.

^yeah, the Aztec one is very good, especially when mixed with ACV. Be sure to apply a very gentle moisturizer afterwards! It's definitely an intense facial. Never breaks me out. But my skin is usually red for 1+ hours after applying!

Most natural skincare breaks me out too for some reason, but Aztec mask did not, it really helped to clear up my skin.

Beauty stuff I'm loving lately...

Black currant oil, 500 mg softgels.
Bellami extensions dyed to my hair color (even just a weft or two makes my hair look 20x healthier and thicker in ponytails, braids, etc. I bought these extensions years ago, never used them, and just recently started using them. Love them!!!)
Foreo Luna 2 with philosophy face wash
No flour products (Ezekiel bread instead)
Lots of greens
Biotin, coq10, zinc, fish oil (omegavia), vitamin c, b complex, vitamin D, magnesium, l-arginine + l-citruline..
Dr. Weil serum for Origins + Origins night-a-mins night cream
Sauna, hot yoga, elliptical, walks for exercise
Wet brush to comb hair in shower and when dry (love the wet brush!!)
Lotion every night that I add skin oils to, to enhance the lotion
Lots of green tea every day, hibiscus tea, lemon water first thing in the morning when I have time
1 mg melatonin nightly (instead of higher doses)
Careprost eyelash stuff for longer lashes (makes a huge difference, quickly!)
Makeup. I keep getting better and better with application and whatnot and rock the minimal makeup look to enhance my natural beauty optimally. It's such a relief to finally feel happy with the products I use and my techniques
Subscribed to Ipsy to receive fun new makeup products for $10/ month. Boxycharm offers full - size products at $21/month, but I prefer receiving smaller sizes, since I don't always love every single product.

Diet...Veggies, fruits, greens, full-fat dairy, lean white meats and fish, legumes and lentils, berries, 85% Lindt dark chocolate, rice and quinoa, olive oil, red wine occasionally, all of that good stuff. I never eat processed sugar, and I rarely eat flour products anymore (I eat gluten, but not if it has been ground into flour).

I'm getting a keratin treatment (nooooot Japanese straightening or a straight perm / relaxer) in a few weeks. I'll report back!

Re: Ipsy...i spent about a month on their waitlist before I was accepted. They really want you to skip the waitlist by sharing Ipsy via Facebook, but I don't have a Facebook, so I just waited it out.

Also am loving St. Ives green tea scrub. Put it on at the beginning of my shower to give it time to work, do the rest of my shower, then scrub it in circular motions on my face and rinse it off at the end of my shower. Gentle and very effective. I use it 2-3x/ week.

Yes!! And the 85% Lindt chocolate uses cacao not processed with alkali, whereas their 90% has been alkalyzed (it even says so on the list of ingredients on the back of the bar). Cacao processed without alkali is healthier!

Favorite foundations recently...

I have very good skin these days, so I was on the hunt for a sheer - coverage, natural finish, aaaand long - lasting foundation. My skin is a bit oily over the course of an 8- hour work day. But I hate the look of super matte foundations. I really need very little coverage, but I need it to last a long time! Oddly difficult to find foundations in this category.

I moisturize with Olay oil - free for sensitive skin with SPF, spritz my face with a couple of pumps of the Milani make it last setting spray, and let that dry while I brush my teeth. Then I use either...

Maybelline fit me - matte and poreless - dotted onto face and bounced into skin with a damp Real Techniques sponge. Set T- zone with setting powder. Lasts all day (with a powder touchup over lunch, natural finish that's matte without being too matte). Price point can't be beat for the quality IMO. I like their dewy finish foundation, too, though the matte one is better for my 8- hour day. I used their online quiz to find my perfect shade. Doesn't oxidize.
Or
MAC studio face and body, dotted onto face and smoothed in with my fingers. Set t-zone with setting powder.

I just got the MAC foundation and have only used it once, but I think it might be literally perfect for my specifications. I've never purchased a higher -end foundation before. Super natural finish, easy to apply and build where I want more coverage. It doesn't oxidize. I researched swatches and reviews online to find my perfect shade and am very pleased with the color (n1). The lasting power is the only thing I need to test - When I wear it to my day job this week. I will definitely update you guys!

I did it again. I've been layering a raspberry-colored Dior lipstick on top of a Kat von D lavender one and it gives me the best shade of purple. I think the next time I need to buy lipstick I'm just going to go to the drug store, close my eyes, pick 2 random colors and then go home and mix them since that seems to be the key to success.

Do you like a matte lip or a satin finish?

Beautiful purples from colourpop.com: lumiere 2, dopey

https://colourpop.com/products/dopey
https://colourpop.com/products/lumiere-2

Colourpop's descriptions and swatches aren't always accurate... the reviews seem to be truer to how they wear. These two are cooler - toned mauves on me that are fun to mix with other colors to achieve different looks. Their formulas are great... the tricky part is reading through reviews to see if the color is what you're looking for. Bad reviews are usually just about issues with expectations for the color; not issues with the formulas.

Their ulta satin lips are divine!! The ultra mattes are awesome for more dramatic looks.

Their makeup is so affordable that the occasional miss (due to the inaccuracy in their swatches) is worth the frequent hits. And they have plenty of more dramatic lip colors, like this one:

https://colourpop.com/products/mamacita

They have an Instagram where they post photos of real women's selfies, so those helped me pick out good color options, too. Allows you to see them on different skin tones.

Okay, last post for now, I promise!

Any suggestions for teeth whitening? Mouthwashes that you love? I tried the crest professional strips, but they made my teeth hurt so much that I could only use them like once a week, and even then, I had to take ibuprofen for the day afterwards...

I don't need super dramatic results. Just something that keeps my teeth decently white without hurting me!

I already floss, tongue scrape, use an electric toothbrush, use sensodyne + whitening toothpaste and a colgate whitening toothpaste.

I saw an ad that looked interesting, it's a woman that does laser teeth whitening in my area from her home. She has a lot of before and after pics and the results looked quite good. For $60, could be a scam tho. I've tried so many of those drugstore teeth whitening strips and trays and they hurt plus didn't see any results.

Yes, exactly. Pain and barely noticeable results that didn't last very long. My teeth are back to their normal, not-super-white color in a couple of weeks despite impeccable mouth care. Argh!

I feel like having super white teeth is one thing that really takes you to the next level for looking healthy and beautiful.

Have you tried Opalescence for teeth whitening? I normally have very sensitive teeth--to the point where I can't use whitestrips and their ilk--and these did not give me ANY pain. I've only done it once so far and kept them on for about 20 minutes. But it's wayyy better than other whitening strips.

Good idea! But the pain I felt was in my actual teeth. My gums didn't hurt at all.

i've been doing intense research on drugstore makeup so i can order some new stuff in preparation for returning to camming. i have almost no money so i'm looking at stuff under $10 a piece.

stuff i want:
covergirl clump crusher mascara $5 on ebay - i want long lashes that look fluttery

some kind of face makeup to cover acne and even skin tone. i've been looking at mineral foundation by meowcosmetics online. i'm overwhelmed at all the color choices lol so i'm holding back. they have $1 samples though! i've also been looking at maybelline's better skin powder foundation. i have some sensory issues where i'm really sensitive to stuff like bright lights, feeling tags on shirts, and feeling anything at all on my face lol so i need something i can't feel at all or my anxiety goes through the roof... hence me looking at powder foundation specifically since i assume it's light feeling.

a setting spray! i have been thinking of getting nyx's matte setting spray

concealer for covering acne and under eye circles. unsure of what to get here.

white eyeliner! i've been thinking of getting something by NYX. i have a wet n wild one that is ok, but i have issues with it not being vibrant enough on my waterline.

colored mascara. i've been looking at jordana's violet mascara. i have blue eyes and i think lavender will look fun. i can use it on my eyebrows for a fun look, on just the tips of my lashes, on my bottom lashes only if i want to tone stuff down, or full on if i want to be creative.

that's all rn. i'm being really careful about what i get since i don't have a ton to spend. i want to work on my look though!

I used left over coffee grounds to exfoliate my face. Omg was it soft and smooth after, felt way better than when I use my regular exfoliant. I heard you can use coffee grounds to exfoliate your body and it's good for cellulite.

Loreal Lash Paradise mascara (new product) is pretty bomb. No clumping and makes you look like you have a ton of lashes. I've heard it be compared to the Better than Sex mascara by Too Faced, which is far pricier.

I sold my nuface on ebay as I am too low maintenence to use it regularly. It was having to cleanse, apply the stupid microcurrent gel to use the device, then rinse/cleanse again each time that annoyed me and irritated my skin. I tried using aloe gel instead and that somehow burned my face even more.

I don't really like treatments and regimes I have to top up or maintain too often, I think I prefer the idea of full blown surgery which takes a while to recover from and then is good for many years...so I will save for my brow/facelift instead.

I had always heard that sleeping on a satin pillow case was better than cotton because less friction on your hair and skin.. Never thought to get one cuz I don't like the feel of satin. Well today I saw one at the store. It said on the package it helps to prevent wrinkles and keeps hair smooth. So that sold me on it. I will just have to get used to the feel of satin

Actually not satin, silk is the best. Satin is synthetic. Silk is a natural protein. Satin is non breathable, will cause electric discharge, its really hot to sleep on it too. silk has properties to temp regulate itself, you will not feel hot or cold if you cover or sleep on it. What a pleasure to sleep on amino acids.

Manuka honey is the best for your skin, to prevent scarring and it's the best antibiotic. I've used it on a ring worm, and it killed it fast with no mark. My friend used it on an incision and no mark. Using it on my tits right now.

Maybe you can make your own personal hair solution. Keep it in a spray bottle and mist it on. Small amounts of chloride may be the common denominator. Maybe a hair detangler might help? My curls are usually softer after being in the rain.
