I don't understand why Skinceuticals has the reputation and price tag that they do in the world of skincare. They add fragrance and essential oils to many of their products. Sure, some essential oils aren't irritating to some skin types... but fragrance? Are you serious? And then they're charging hundreds of dollars for serums that have like three, basic ingredients.
Here's an example of a product they offer that's specifically designed to calm irritated skin. Yet what do we see near the top of the ingredient list? Ah, yes, our favorite friend, fragrance.

Okay, I'm done ranting now. :)

^ I was looking into getting their AOX eye serum, but it contains alcohol denat. Caroline Hirons reviewed it and loves it, despite being sceptical about the alcohol - but she asked Skinceuticals about it and their reasoning doesn't convince me.
https://www.carolinehirons.com/2015/07/skinceuticals-aox-eye-gel.html
I am definitely not putting such a harsh ingredient around my eyes.
Funny enough though, I do use and love a couple of Dermalogica products with essential oils that in theory my sensitive skin shouldn't like.
I just hope there isn't some invisible low-level inflammation or something happening - I honestly haven't found other products my skin likes as much and always go back to them.
Anyway another weird thing is that after years of using a good eye cream, for the past 6 months or so I've just been using a cheap 'Boots' (UK drugstore) own brand one and I can't see much, if any difference.
I was initially trying to save money and intended to alternate between a cheaper and higher end cream every month or so, but realised the crepiness and loose skin around my eyes has been increasing over the past 18 months whether I used the expensive cream or not.
For now I'm accepting that I'm just getting a bit old, LOL.

Yes, exactly, so many products with denatured alcohol, too! Now, i do understand that alcohol denat. can be used to improve product texture and absorption. So i think it's fine if it's lower on the list... and I've heard it can be especially helpful for thick hair masks, for example.
But yeah, I've seen Skinceuticals and iS Clinical put that like third on the ingredient list, so you're paying hundreds of dollars for a serum that's 99% water, glycerin, and denatured alcohol, with a few other ingredients appearing after that. I'd just rather buy something else. I don't mind paying a lot of money for great skincare... I'm no stranger to Neocutis, PCA Skin, Revision, and others. But I'm taking a really close look at the ingredients to see what I'm paying for in that case.
Like, i don't need a face cream that has eucalyptus extract in it. Instead, give me an active that's proven to work. Ascorbic acid, alpha arbutin, lactic acid, AHAs/BHAs, niacinamide, peptides, ceramides... something!
If you've noticed a change in the last 18 months, i might look at lifestyle - stress, diet, hydration, sleep - as possible culprits. Skincare can only take us so far, of course, and it doesn't seem like natural aging that's noticeable would happen so quickly unless there's something else at play there. My experience is also that i can start to hyperfocus on my skin, causing me to notice stuff that was probably there before.
And also start gently patting tretinoin or similar around the eyes at bedtime! It's a myth that you can't use it around the eyes. Just start slowly and go from there. I usually just apply tretinoin to the rest of my face and then lightly tap the extra product around my eyes, finishing with an eye cream. Eye creams aren't necessary, technically, but i like using them.

Skinceuticals and iS Clinical have cult followings that perplex me. This is one of their much-loved products:
https://www.lovelyskin.com/o/is-clinical-active-serum-1-fl-oz
The first few ingredients are just for the formulation of the product and include alcohol. Then we have a few extracts that might have some very modest anti-inflammatory benefits. Arbutin is a legitimate skin lightener. And then we end with MENTHOL. I don't want menthol on my skin just for the cooling sensation and fragrance. Menthol can cause irritation, especially when combined with denatured alcohol. It's so gimmicky.
You'd get a much better formulation from a budget option like Paula's Choice, or if you want to spend money, look at medspa brands like Revision, Skinmedica, etc.
I need to stop ranting, lol. No one is gonna read this jibber jabber haha.

No, Im interested, Charlie..I feel we should do product research.
As you know, Ive been looking at skin care..
I kinda decided on Tula brand, meanwhile I got The Ordinary cause it's affordable.
Also, I went on eBay & purchased 2 samples of Supergoop brand eye cream w/spf, to try for day use.
I like to buy samples on there to try, before springing on a big purchase.
Also, I want to mention, I previously ordered a face roller from MDNA, (Madonna) I never used it, but they were so nice about me returning it.
Id never opened or used it, they gave me samples which I didn't use, it was a while I had it.

And yeah, I've had some major skincare flops, too- you mentioned you returned the face roller. I bought that $400 Shani Darden wand, and it's basically just a vibrator for your face... it feels like I'm using my Hitachi Magic Wand on my face, haha. I almost wish I'd returned it, but i do like using it around my brows / temples when I'm holding stress there. That's a lot of damn money for something that's turned into a glorified temple massager, lol!

I bleached my hair a few weeks ago and its dry as fuck. I want to do a hair mask at home but I get all these crazy recipes. Coconut oil and an egg? Really? Did somebody try this? Does it work?
Didn't do the Olaplex this time. I find it very expensive (I have veryyyy thick hair and bottom of bra strap length) so they charge double. And if it would work miracles like everyone says I would think its worth it but I dont think its really worth it. Am I the only one who is not really a big fan of Olaplex?

Fellow oily skin makeup wearers: Which full coverage matte foundation do you use for long wear (10+ hr) situations? Added points if it can hold up in very humid/hot climates!
I've been using Double Wear, but go through it way too fast to justify spending $43 plus tax per bottle. So far I've tried KVD lock it (love the coverage, hate how flat the finish is & oily it gets after 4-6hrs), Fenty soft matte long wear (coverage is ok, but not the best undertone match for me), Tom Ford Traceless (love how skin like the finish is but it doesn't last more than 6hrs on me before melting plus it's like $80), Huda fauxfilter luminous matte (love the coverage/shade match/that a little goes a long way, but it gets super shiny at the 8hr mark no matter how I set it), Milani conceal +perfect (kind of cakey and melted like the KVD), Lancome's 24hr matte foundation (didn't like the coverage and gave me the worst acne), & the previous Tarte amazonian clay formula (perfect shade match, acceptable coverage, but melted after 4-5hrs). I try to steer clear of things with chemical spf because it usually gives me acne. :/

Oily AF here, the only thing I can make last 8+ hours is the dior forever matte. Horrible for touch ups and I think it makes me look like crap in person but lasts and looks great on cam. Nars soft matte is good for a combo of skinlike/mattte but does fall apart in my oiliest places after half a day.
Armani Luminous silk is my go to atm, actually lasts and looks fresh for about 7, but probably not the finish you are looking for. One that last even longer on my oily skin is the Shiseido
Synchro Skin I can get 10 hours in real life out of it but somehow only half that on cam.

It looks really patchy if you try to touch up once it’s set. It does oxidize. I actually mostly stopped setting because of my time trying to make it work. I buff with it instead, right now I am using the Laura Mercier candlelight glow but I really like the by terry ones. They have a pink toned one that makes even the worst formulas look great. I tried it on a gf of mine that has a darker skin tone then me and it had the same effect.
once summer is over and makeup stays on my face, I will probably pick up some of the hourglass powder as I always go back to it.

It is GOLD!
A bit pricey, ($34.00) 6 oz can, Ulta, or sometimes eBay.
I absolutely love it, its a bonding spray sounds weird, but it works!
So easy to use, Olaplex a major PIA to use .
All the IGK products are 4.5 - 5 stars, that's the only one Ive used, it's awesome!
Also try Chloresteral, from Sally's, it's cheap but good .
The one salonI go to buys it in huge drums.
It's probably like $3.99 for a large jar

I used to do the egg (yolk only) and olive oil 'hair mayonnaise' at home when I was in my teens. It works well for dry hair but as my hair is also quite fine I found it too rich. If you do try it, only rinse with lukewarm water, or you will have a head full of scrambled eggs!

I love primers! Have yet to try the Dermalogica one though so maybe I’ll grab it! Usually go with smashbox oil control (awesome for long wear, but will cause accentuated texture), Catrice Keep me Matt (great price, creamier, and texture blurring, but not as long lasting as the smashbox so I usually mix the two), or Touch in Sol Icy Sherbet (all time favorite! Makes your skin sooooo soft, matte, and doesn’t dry your skin out or accentuate texture).
tinted moisturizers scare me sh*tless. My skin isn’t bad at all, but I’m super scared of becoming an oil slick even faster than usual. Do matte tinted moisturizers even exist? Like that I could get behind!

Thankyou - yes it definitely seems more accelerated. I am almost certain I'm in perimenopause and think it could be related. The hollowing under my eyes has got much worse and that could be due to lack of estrogen causing fat loss there. I have an appointment with a specialist booked for October so really hope I can get some help with things.
My skin doesn't like retinoids but I've been using vitamin C serums for a while and like them - I've tried a few brands and forms and am actually buying a new combo today as I want to treat myself after a few months of being frugal with skincare.
Skinceuticals is good but a bit strong for me, and because I cut down to using it every 3rd day or so it meant the product was getting discoloured long before I could finish it...and it's too expensive!
I want to try a more stable form of vitamin C as I'm wondering if I may actually get more of the benefits that way (although I know L-ascorbic is meant to be most potent there are decent studies on some other forms and their benefits too).
My plan is to mix Paulas Choice Antioxidant serum with The Ordinary Ferulic and maybe add in a bit of The Ordinary L-ascorbic powder later on if I don't have any irritation...I have even ordered ph strips to test my concoctions. It'll be interesting.
I also enjoy the skincare ramblings, Charlie!

^I'm glad!! Packaging is a big deal with vitamin c...i don't like droppers, where you can see the product oxidizing over time.
I have my eye on this vitamin C product from Revision. I like that it's in air-tight packaging, and the ingredients look great. But it is very pricey. I have a 15-20% off code for Revision, but even then, this is really expensive.
https://www.lovelyskin.com/o/revision-skincare-c-correcting-complex-30
Paula's Choice has this option if you're looking for a big boost (i own this but haven't started using it). I've never tried higher C concentrations, so I'm not sure how my skin will handle it. This is only .5 oz... very expensive for PC. Always buy PC on sale, 15-20% - they always have coupon codes.
https://www.paulaschoice.com/c25-super-booster/785.html
And this product gets a huge thumbs up from a lot of skincare junkies... it's affordable, potent, and has good packaging. I think they sell it at Target.

Yeah, with a lot of this stuff, it's hard to tell if it works or not, because it's mostly powerful for prevention... reversing the natural aging process is tough, especially since we're actively aging every day! There are really only a handful of proven ingredients out there, so if you're on a budget, stick to what's been studied: tretinoin, vitamin c, etc. No need to spend a fortune.
I really liked the Revision neck cream and would buy it again, but it's hard for me to report on results, as I'm mostly focused on prevention, and i also use Nuface, etc. I'm using a neck cream by Neostrata right now that's nice. Hard for me to remember the neck in my routine.

I'd probably try an acid to slough the skin off and encourage cellular turnover. Paula's Choice makes a glycolic acid lotion for the body, i think. And yeah, other skin lighteners could help... though I'd be very careful applying those so close to intimate areas. Could be irritating or throw off your pH balance...
This has glycolic and vitamin c:

Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is old news in the beauty world, but I recently bought some in addition to the Cheriosa '71 body spray and I've gotten so many compliments. I went to donate some old clothing at a Salvation Army truck and the truck attendant was freaking out telling me how amazing I smelled. The lotion smells like pistachios, salted caramel and vanilla, and the body spray kind of reminds me of popcorn on first spray but then it fades into a beautiful white chocolate macadamia cookie scent. Supposedly the lotion is firms your bum -- can't attest to that (yet) -- and I honestly think the only thing that can really firm your butt are exercise and surgeons but that's beside the point. This stuff makes you smell like a literal snack.

^agreed! It's definitely not for everyone though. Worth a sniff before anyone purchases it, since it's pricey! I bought a tub of the cream blindly, and it's waaaay too heavily scented for my preferences, and my partner asked, "did you just spray yourself with vanilla?" Not good. Just not my thing, but lots of people looove it!

Anyone have a matte pressed powder suggestion? Something that comes in a compact. I'm medium tan if that helps at all. Want to use it on top of a full face of makeup to touch up breakthrough oil.
My top favourite for years has been Rimmel London Stay Matte. It's cheap as fuck but it's been the only one who doesn't look bad when doing touch ups. It's more than 7 years since I have been using it, over and over again :)))) The only one I am buying :))))
Also, try to use some oil blotting paper before applying the powder, for an even more fresh effect.

I'm on the hunt for serious, anti aging skin care, I'm considering Dr Lara Devan, she's a top NY plastic surgeon.
She's also on Sephora.
I'm tired of a lot of advertised shit, but the good stuff's expensive! :(
But how do you know it's good, other than reviews which can be fake.
Also, I'm looking at antiaging foundations

I just extend my face cream to my neck.
