I tell people I'm a webcam model, it amuses me to see their reaction.
If I didn't want someone to know, id just say i do online sales, which is also true

I say work from home copywriting, transcription (they can't get too many answers here because you can easily say that you are bound by contract not to talk about the "sensitive info" you transcribe), or customer support. You could also say you are a virtual assistant. When people try ask where so they can do the same just say that the money fluctuates and the paychecks are not always guaranteed. That normally prevents them from asking more questions.

Data Entry for various companies from home. Contracted work so there isn't a specific place you say you work. :)

I tell strangers that I do Online Marketing or Customer Service or something like that. My entire immediate family knows and so do my old friends, but it really gets annoying when new people ask what I do and having to explain all the work that goes into this job so I just use one of those two and change the subject. I don't really care if people know, but it annoys the living shit out of me when they want to have an in-depth conversation about it. Like, shut up. I've told these stories about a million times now.

I still work my vanilla job at the weekend because it's pretty good money and I can't work from my flat at the weekend anyway because that's when my neighbors are off. But it's a big establishment. I have about 80+ colleagues and most of them are middle-aged women so it's gossip city! My supervisor knows what I do and she finds it hilarious and I've told a few more I know I can trust, but there's definitely people I wouldn't tell because I want to keep the job as long as possible for the extra cash and can't risk it getting back to the big boss. It's not against my contract, but it is a public job so she'll probably sack me anyway even though I work in a quiet bit by myself. Even if she didn't sack me, I don't think I could be bothered with them talking behind my back or the stares.

When work people ask what I do during the week now (I used to do loads of overtime during the week there.) I just tell them I do market research and clean houses. When I do get discovered, then I will probably hand in my notice, but for now having some form of consistent income suits me fine. Hopefully by that time I will have a house lease out in the country so I have no darn neighbors to worry about!

I used to do camming and now do texting which is still adult work, but I do not want anyone to know I do texting either; so I just say I am a moderator on a chat site. Not too far off from the truth.

No one has asked me what site I work for, but I would just tell them it is for a dating site if they did.

Since my family and friends know, I tell everyone else that I am a freelance horror writer or freelance sales associate. :) No one ask me anything else about my job :)

Well, I literally turn nineteen in two days- er. In one day and fifteen minutes xD Being young like I am, I'm not sure how I could pass with some of these things. My boyfriend's folks are both therapists. And they're terrible, LOL. I certainly don't need them knowing I show my booty for a pretty penny c: But some of these are SUCH good ideas o:

You can tell them anything you want. Our job covers so many things that you really can just pick any activity that we do and make it a title. There really is no reason to tell people what you do if you don't want to. Off of the top of my head.....

affiliate marketer
internet marketer
social media manager
social media specialist
customer service rep
technical support
data entry
web designer
web developer
digital content producer/content producer
digital content developer/content developer
video producer
video editor
online/internet business owner
internet media specialist
live broadcaster
web broadcasting host
online/internet host
blogger
online personality
(All of the these titles are actually jobs btw)

Some people that do Youtube full-time call themselves content producers, content creators instead of Youtube gurus.
Some of the ladies who are very popular on Instagram are now calling themselves brand ambassadors instead of Instagram/IG models.

The titles you can come up with are really endless. Telling people what I do has become some what easy. First I was a customer service rep and marketer. For the last couple of years I've been a web designer/developer. The hard part is when people start to ask questions. I kind of want to come up with an online business or a vanilla website that I can do as a hobby just so that I can completely curve people when they start asking me questions. I don't even ask people what they do but they always want to ask me "what do you do for a living?" accompanied by 101 questions. I just want to be like I run this store, I make homemade items or I review the latest geek gadgets..... you should check it out..... end of convo.

I'm in university, but I'm a translator as a part-time job - I just tell them I'm taking more translator jobs and making more money ;D

The only one who knows is bf (he cams with me) and he keeps up the ruse too. lol

Website design. I used to do that stuff a lot- I could totally pass that off. I'm totally gonna go with that for now. I can even put something together to make it believable. I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner o:

I tell people I'm a freelance writer (which I do on fiverr) or simply that I do hair from home (I do that too).
Someone mentioned saying that you're a virtual assistant, that's a good one. That and all the other freelance/transcription/translation/etc work cuz that explains why you have a decent amount of free time (ha) and still pay bills. #pow

I normally just tell people that I am a cam girl or I'm a stay at home mom(my husband makes decent money so it's easy to believe we are doing fine on one income). There are only a couple I don't want know(my grandparents, uncles, etc) so most of the time it's not a problem. My friends are supportive and a couple of them hang out with me while I'm in free chat.

I either tell people I deal comic books on ebay or that I sell knives... and then I stare at them as creepy as possible. Works pretty well and rarely do people ask any more questions.

I did have an extremely prude grandfather type try to chat me up on a flight once when I had a really bad hangover (like barfing in barf bags multiple times bad) and after 45 minutes of him not shutting up, I straight up told him I was a camgirl. The sound of silence that followed for the next 5hrs was beyond lovely.

Say you do temp work. Then you can change what you are doing - e.g. oh my mom told you that I do advertising? Yeah that was just an assignment last week, this week I'm doing cleaning for a different agency, next week I'm stewarding at a music event...etc etc

I have all my earnings run through an LLC. The LLC has a "fake" website. If anyone asks, I say I do internet marketing. They ask for my company name? I give it to them. They go to the website... hey, she is telling the truth!

Some of these ideas are super great. I'm going over to the bf's family's house for Thanksgiving and I'm really not looking forward to explaining how I can afford such a nice apartment at my age...

I do the same thing and every once in a while I'll have someone really look it up. I even had one person ask me if I could get them a job there. I just said I think we're not hiring right now lol

Online sales and freelancing "a little of this, a little of that". I don't care too much if people find out, but it IS true, and if you Google my real name it comes up with tons of freelancing stuff.

I always told people that I do cleaning, advertising, dog grooming, hostess...BUT all people that ask are super nosy..ask questions like "what exactly?" and "how, when, how much do you make, etc". It gets so tiring to lie all the time and to make something up on every fucking question. I've noticed that I'm starting to avoid many people that I'm socialising with, just because of that. I dont mean close family and friends, but people we shared some common interests and went out sometimes etc. I dont plan to tell these people the truth about what I do, but also I dont want to cut all the contacts. How do you deal with the situation like this?

Another day i saw on youtube a video, woman works as mermaid. She ggot her silicon tail, she swims in an aquarium with fishes. You can say that you are an online mermaid.
But seriously. We should make a permanent thread here with that kind of support.i see this kind threads always appearing here p.

I hate having to lie about what I do, but we moved from a big city to a ridiculous Bible thumping area and I'm terrified if I answer anyone at my kids school honestly they're gonna get CPS involved and while I take extra precautions to make SURE my kids are never exposed to my job, they'd still be required to investigate and get all up in our business. So, I don't just have to lie to all the parents and teachers and such I have to lie to my kids, which always seems like in the long run I'm teaching them there's something shameful about adult work, and there's not.
Generally I say "I just do boring computer stuff " and because these people live in the dark ages they don't ask questions, but because my kids aren't dumb like the locals, my oldest has started asking questions, and suggesting a bring your kid to work day. /facepalm

^^ And THAT is the part that kills me..they can't ever leave it at a simple answer, can they?!
I've told a couple people what I do, but luckily the ones that I've told are openminded and not judgmental so phew!!

I'm a web evaluator. As with Evelyn's story mine sounds so boring (I really did used to do that job btw) no one asks any further questions. Explaining the flexibility to have weeks off at a time , or the money available for large purchases is harder!

This!! I'm going to use this. I just had to ( she asked ) exchange phone numbers with my neighbor across the street. Maybe to just take walks together at night. But I was dreading the "what do you do at home all day" question. And if she asks if she can do it for side work I'm just going to tell her I have enough people competing with me for the gigs. Maybe that and pt student. I need an excuse why I'm only available for an hour from 7-8 pm. LOL such a hermit. I just get so defensive when people start asking questions if I'm not prepared. Then I sound like a drug dealer because I'm not giving elaborate concrete answers. The sad thing is people are just trying to be friendly and I'm just like mind your own business. If people knew here it would get blabbed all over the hood. And there are some unsavory types here I'd rather not have knocking on my door.

I'm completely undercover for now :D I tell I work as a customer support, and since I live by myself nobody really knows what nasty stuff I do between my walls }:D
Honestly, before I hated lies and liars, but now I'm starting to appreciate it because most people are nasty and full of prejudice, and after all it's none of their business what I do for a living. I don't have many close friends, especially in the city I live in now, so I lie. I say basic stuff they expect to hear from a working girl. But I'm planning career in adult industry so when that time comes, I won't mind if people recognize me, because I will have much more $ to comfort me in this hypocrite society.

I've been telling people I'm doing freelance data entry and maybe when the money picks up I'll say I got a gig as a virtual assistant or a social media coordinator or something. I am def worried that people will want more info than I have about the work lol! So I will have to suppress my natural tendency to talk too much and give too many details!

I don't say SHIT about the camming stuff. People don't know how to act when they find out the truth, so fuck it. That will be the piece of information I make sure to omit from the annoying-ass "So what do you do?" conversations. I plan to soon have enough eggs in my basket anyway, where I can answer that question truthfully by listing NON-adult stuff, and just leaving out the camming part.

I should also add that just because some cam girls choose to withhold that information from people DOES NOT mean that they/we are "ashamed." I just wanted to point that out since I've seen girls on here saying stuff like "Well I'm not ashamed, so I don't have to hide anything." Um...yeah, we didn't say we're ashamed either. Lmao. We just wanna avoid the drama, the BS,and being treated differently by people, so we choose to not volunteer that info.

Marina Starr

I hate that because it somehow implies that if you CHOOSE to keep it private, you're ashamed and hiding when there's nothing to hide or be ashamed of in the first place, LOL. Disclosure is not a competition.
