I often feel so paralyzed by how much work there is to be done in the world that I feel like my measly $5/month (or whatever) isn't even worth the effort. But...it is. And my new employer matches our charitable donations.
The biggest thing I do is rescuing animals from shelters, but I can't take any more on, so now I feel like I'm not contributing anything to the world.
If your shelter has something like this, you could volunteer to be an adoption counselor, helping people pick out animals and vetting them to make sure they're a good fit, or doing stuff like taking nice pictures of the animals and writing up fun personality blurbs on them to help them get noticed online/in shelter and adopted. I want to take home all the animals too, but I satisfy that need by trying to help the other animals go to good homes. I recommend it if you have the time/your local shelter has programs like that.
And even if you can't, yes, any money is helpful. They need to buy so much stuff that comes purely from donations/extra money, every little bit helps!
