To be completely honest if it werent for the existence of articles and interviews of camgirls talking about their life and how camming works I would've never signed up as a camgirl myself. At the same time no amount of interviews and words written can accurately describe every camgirl's experience. I think a better article would be to interview 3+ girls and ask them the same questions to see how each girl answers differently. An older woman who specializes in dom, vs a younger girl doing it part-time who may not even go full nude, vs a bbw (just throwing out random ideas).

A thing I've learned is that camming isn't just one "job", its a super broad category of the adult entertainment industry and one girl's experience can not and will not speak for camgirls in general.

I myself am in the age range mentioned, and started off part time, and didn't follow many of the tips of the trade (twitter account, photos, any sort of promotion really) but was still able support myself with camming only after two months working maybe 20 hours a week. I have no "niche", no specialty, and I know I sure as hell don't work as hard as I could, im cute but nothing special (honestly, I've been single AF for a year now). What does this mean? Other than the fact that im very lucky, it means that our experiences are SOOO varied that I can't imagine having one girl represent our experiences.

I just hope whoever does the interview is able to paint a relatively accurate picture of camming and what it means to be in this industry. Goodluck whoever you are!

I guess my main concern is that their actual demographic is more than likely 14-18 year old women. I know I personally haven't even glanced at a Cosmo since I was a teenager and I most certainly haven't seen them laying about my friend's houses either since about 18 as well.

I find it interesting that the dominatrix is allowed to be in her 40s. ;)

Foxxydiva,
How are girls in this thread resentful? Most girls are quite helpful on this site towards each other.A lot of girls on here have room to be concern with this "reporter" making up fairy tales to sell to girls trying to get into this industry. She also make another up fairy tales to all of those Instagram sugar babies as well:) Most of the girls believe that it is easy work but they get disappointed in the end. The girls who are willing to stick out can grain great awards.

Eh. I dunno. This whole thread is making me rethink the whole cam girl sisterhood thing though. I'm still a newbie and thought this was the spot for advice but it seems some are resentful. Getting the "we don't want you, go home" vibe everywhere it seems. #sadpanda

I like to read articles about camming that are honest and real, too bad most of them are bullshit. They present it like awful, degrading job, bad parenting, web whores who would do anything for the money etc, or they present it like "get rich fast" kind of job, luxurious life camgirls "have". I don't like any of that because it's not true! For the most of us at least. Because of that idiotic marketing ads "Earn 10k a week" I was once fooled to think about it as easy job and I think most of the new girls are too. Just because you have pussy doesn't mean you can bank, it takes so much more. When I signed up for it, did I think I'll work hard, promote myself, expose myself? NO. I did not. After few months of camming I had to think hard is this the job I want, do I really want to be in adult industry. And I had to figure that out by myself, based on my personal experience, and with the help of SW community. That fake, exaggerated stories about cam world are so annoying and what's worst misleading for many girls out there. Camming is a legit job! And like any other job out there you have to WORK for your money. If you want to be good at you have to pay the price.
THIS.

I don't understand why there's even an author credited in this... it's not an interview, it's literally just a first-person essay written by the dominatrix herself.

Because the author would have re-written/edited the domme's words to suit the in-house style.

heads up. we get an interview request here like monthly. when it's thesis season for lazy grad students, they post for interviews. personally, i find it pretty exploitative as fuck. all the information is out there. fuck the writer could sign up herself and try it. do some actual journalism, really research your topic from the inside.

oh and sisterhood is there. we are one hell of an opinionated group.

oh so work? lol.

I sent her an email. They need to do a full story on camming and how it is not an easy career to have.
Oh Jane! But you and I are both past their 18-25 age requirement! Cuz God knows, you won't make a cent after the second midnight hits at 25!-signed, a 31 year old literally rolling around naked in a tub full of money right now :)

I'm pretty sure the majority of the highest earning girls are over 25.

Im 45 and i do pretty well. As the others have mentioned i also would like to see something like this that is done with all the aspects of camming the good and the bad. Alot of women start off on a site and dont really know the whole side of this job and the repercussions that can come from it without proper knowledge, thats why im glad we have these amazing ladies and this forum to go to for information. Thats just my input on it.

There was this tv so-called star (where i live locally) that started doing camming. She is a star because she dated some really stupid famous musician. And they invited her on a late night show & they called a psychologist too. Guess what? They are talking about camming as if we whore around for some easy money. And that fucking terrible pgychologist started sayin at one point that the members that enter this type of sites are all criminals. At that point i closed the tv. I couldn't take it anymore. And for it not to be enough that so called star said she did 5000 $ in her first week. Like really? Both of the lies in the same context.
It is ridiculous what tv is willing to do for ratings and some money. I never ever saw a positive type of journalism when it comes to us camgirls. Ever.

This won't be doing anyone any favors, but whatever. I knew it wouldn't be too long until a featured cam piece would grace the pages. Actually, I'm quite surprised they waited this late.

Any who, I have Cosmo to thank for everything. When I was 15 I discovered it. I would read through it, end up at the horoscopes, and not before long I'd discovered the very back where the free phone sex lines (for ladies)were. I'd lie about my age, and I'd call the guys and get them off for free until I was about 19 when I discovered I could actually get paid for this work.

I'm waiting for a journalist who has the balls to print the real issues we deal with in our industry but I know that won't happen in cosmo because cosmo is more concerned with regurgitating the same sex positions and latest airbrushed, photo shopped celeb. We have dirt and stories for decades that 18-25 yr olds don't know shit about, but they aren't listening. That's okay, though. I won't be buying it because I ditched cosmo when I was about 20.

Honestly I get way more interviews now than I did at 25. Its hilarious because so many performers are over 25, most are in their 30's and 40's.

If you want to see an accurate article on the web cam industry hit up a magazine like Allure, Glamour or Marie Claire and ask them to write one. They all seem to have more real pieces than Cosmo ever had.

I didn't even start until I was 30 ;) My theory is they only ask for that age range as the youngsters are the only ones daft enough to talk to them!

I've considered pitching a piece about camming to both men's and women's magazines (different pieces obviously) and Marie Claire was on my list to contact...going to add Allure and Glamour. I would (obviously) be writing a very different type of piece than this writer, since I am over 25, not a top-row perfect-10 type, and do this full time. In my opinion a freelance piece by an active camgirl who also interviews other camgirls across the spectrum would be far more accurate (obviously) and interesting than a staff writer cranking out Cosmo Crap...but could be tough to place. 2017 goals, y'all.

Wow, I used the word "obviously" a lot. Maybe I'm not such a great writer...

I made the mistake of speaking to a writer once, turned everything around, misquoted me, took things out of context... never again... you want to know what it is like, get a Webcam and take off your clothes
