when I go drunk I have a lot more fun, but I do not want to upset the strippers. do you hate drunk customers? I do get more handsy but its not like im one of those guys that try to finger the dancers. And on an unrelated note, is it weird that a stripper refused to take my tip because she said she didnt want to "take advantage of me when I'm wasted" ?

I'm surprised that a club would even allow you inside of it's doors drunk. There are many ABC laws put in place where bars can't serve patrons who are already intoxicated.

Or puke on yourself while you wet yourself. On stage. During your bachelor party. Not that I saw that happen last month.

There are still a number of states that don't have "dram shop" laws and a number of others actually limit bars' liability unless they serve underage patrons or do something else extreme, like serve patrons who are clearly already smashed.

FL, where I now live, has dram shop laws, but is one of the most permissive states. In FL, a bar can only be held liable if the intoxicated person is either underage or if the bartender KNOWS that the patron is a habitual abuser of alcohol. So basically the clubs in Florida can serve you until you drop off your bar stool and plenty of them do IME.

Philosophies will differ here, but IMHO grown adults have to be responsible for themselves. It is impossible for club staff, especially in large clubs, to babysit every person or even to accurately track how much each person has had to drink. The nanny states that hold bars strictly liable have made it much more expensive for bars to do business because now these bars have to buy special insurance to protect themselves if they are sued. Lawyers and insurance companies of course love these types of laws, since they get rich off of this nonsense.

I don't know Rick. I'm partially with you on this but I also think, just out if basic humanity, you don't help someone be stupid if you can avoid it.

IOW, it's easy enough usually to tell when someone is sloppy. At that point you don't have to help get them to falling down drunk. Cutting them off is the right thing to do.

Sometimes these characters will get violent with a bartender who cuts them off.

Also, there are some clubs that it is very dangerous to be stupid drunk in, especially if you are the type to get belligerent. Some clubs either don't care, or even actively encourage the bouncers to rough up idiots.

Yep!
My home club was shut down last month due to this very reason. Bouncers were always very rough and the owner and managers encouraged it... Someone once pointed out they were able to do so because the cops rarely believe the drunk guy standing in a club parking lot with a nosebleed.
It's to their advantage to have you be drunk before they pound your face in.

Anyways, this guy was tipsy, gave them a tiny bit of back talk about something, and they beat the shit out of him so hard he died of a brain hemorrhage.

So yeah, stupid business decision for the owner and he IS getting sued by the guys family.

GR, for humanitarian and common sense reasons, I'm in the camp of cutting off a falling down drunk.

But I'm not in favor of making bars legally liable for morons who over-drink. Some guys are really good at hiding their inebriation until they are already fucked up. Also, it is just not practical to expect bar/club staff to be able to monitor the consumption of a large number of people, especially on busy nights. So in those states where strict liability applies, it is a pure game of chance. The club hopes that someone never causes a wreck after he/she leaves, but also keeps expensive insurance in case it does ever happen. Most states recognize this and don't really enforce their own dram shop laws too strictly from a criminal standpoint, but that doesn't prevent civil suits from popping up when some moron drinks and drives and does harm.

Go drunk. Just don't go broke.

Just kidding.

Like others have said, son go to a club if you can't handle your booze.

Yes, I think it's inappropriate to go to a club drunk. It shows disrepect for the strippers, other staff and fellow customers.

I hate quoting myself, but the article is a perfect example of what I was talking about above.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/m/6863d230-a215-3518-91e7-5d86b1a43f85/cafe-under-investigation-in.html

The wife of a well known sports broadcaster was recently involved in a car accident that killed herself and the person in the other car. She had just had lunch in a local cafe and now the state of Connecticut, one of the nanny states I was referring to above, is now investigating the cafe for serving alcohol to her. Apparently they are expected to determine just how many drinks are enough for a 67 year old woman to have with her lunch. That is truly scary if you are a bar or restaurant owner.

At common law a server of alcohol was not liable for the torts of the person served. "Dramshop" laws imposed liability, and now have provisions for immunity under certain conditions.
