I don't know about the college educated as my statement was about those still in school being encapsulated in a bubble where liberal thinking is the only thing they are taught. There really isn't much political diversity in American universities. Yes, there are some exceptions to the rule. Once people get out of that and into the "real world" they experience a more diverse political culture and often change their views.
And it isn't that they don't care about other people, it's that they tend to think only one way is the right way. I mean if you read that article it says how many professors identify themselves as liberal. We talk about diversity a lot but when the ones doing the teaching aren't diverse how can the students really be expected to have diverse points of view?
I'm college educated, I went to a large public state university, and I live in a red state... so I've personally had plenty of experience learning from conservative/republican educators and peers... as well as people from many walks of life. I'm a registered independent, but I lean liberal. I was raised by a working class family. Not sure college changed me much politically, but it did make me more of a critical thinker.
Is there ever really a downside to being educated? I don't understand how college could keep students from having "real world" experience these days, when most of us have to work anyway due to the cost of education and high interest student loans. We know what it's like to work our asses off in shitty jobs in an unfair world. College campuses tend to be pretty diverse in terms of race and background, as well... the government makes them do this, it's why many grants and scholarships exist.
I read the article, and while it had some interesting facts, I honestly think it could easily be turned around to show that uneducated people need to be exposed to more "real world" ideas. Science, world history, logic... these subjects are not liberal fluff.
That said, I do think people who are more well-off, even the working middle class, need to see what life is like in the lowest income brackets. The poorest places in the U.S. These are the real "forgotten" men and women who voted for Trump, and they do need to be understood. I had NO idea how bad things were in my own state until I started teaching, and while I don't agree with Trump's election, I get why they want change.

Some thoughts...
I hope most people can agree college is much less about calculus/econ 101/English comp/whatever than it is about learning how to think and analyze information. I am going to throw something out there I have not admitted 'publicly' but said to a few friends who agree with me. The working class/not college educated rallied behind Trump because...they cannot (or don't make the effort to) think critically. They didn't look for what was behind his angry rhetoric.
I watched a lot of Trump rallies (I have a smart tv, no cable, they were live streamed every night). People keep screaming Hillary Clinton is a liar and not trust worthy but Trump lied OVER AND OVER. About late term abortion, screaming he was cutting middle class taxes (kind of true but much larger benefit for the wealthy), that Clinton wanted to increase middle class taxes (not true at all), that she was being indicted (not true), the FBI is crooked, the FBI is standing up to corruption, the FBI is crooked again, the whole system is rigged against him!! I couldn't believe my eyes watching the second debate, I could never imagine being so whiny at work (3 on 1 nice, system is rigged, my microphone was faulty!!) Making promise after promise with no plan. How do you make insurance companies sell insurance to those with pre-existing conditions without a mandate? I do not care so much about his taxes taking a billion dollar deduction is shitty and pathetic but legal so whatever. I could even get over 12 women accusing him of sexual assault, no charges not proven, whatever. But he said some of those women weren't attractive enough for him to sexually assault. WHAT. I think any rational person can realize Trump university was a fraud. He got an official warning letter from the state about using the word university and ignored it. It is a fact that he straight up did not pay his contractors. Contractors are the working class!!! I don't know what happened. He is not a self made man. Bill and Hillary are wealthy now but started off poor. Does anyone think Trump REALLY cares about blue collar workers? Understands budgeting at the grocery store? Again, I obviously have a bias but I think anyone who has a thought process can determine that climate instability is real and man made (confession I kind of love the sweet revenge of Texas flooding earlier this year) and vaccines don't cause autism.
Hilary Clinton has been serving the public for over 40 years. She stopped using her maiden name so her husband could get re elected as governor. She changed her look again for his 1996 campaign. I don't think people are malicious but I think subconsciously a lot of people didn't want her because she is a woman. Her voice is annoying. her laugh is a cackle. More didn't like her because she is deep in the system. I get that. I didn't love her either. I never volunteered for her campaign and only donated to her at the end when Trump was closing in on the polls.
I think HRC lost even though she was far more qualified because she ran a logical campaign built on the inclusiveness America was founded on. I think Trump won because people needed ANYTHING to be angry about and he gave them things to be angry about and people to blame.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone but this is what I think. Now that the damage is done and this is really happening...I have to admit it. I'm a registered independent. I didn't love Obama and I did not like the ACA. I was selfish and did not care about others as long as I had good insurance. I think education teaches us the only evil thing out there is misinformation. If we were all working from the same data set I think there would be a lot more agreement.
Edit: I also watched the video highlighting the worst of the wikileak emails. A lot seemed typical for a politician tbh, some were disappointing. But again if you look up the Clinton Foundation's non profit forms online they all seem legit to me...but again at the last debate Trump was screaming the foundation was corrupt. At least part of his foundation is used fraudulently and he hasn't donated to his own foundation since something like 2008.

But with the electoral college, red states and blue states don't get much attention. The candidates focus exclusively on a small number of swing states. Texas and California are the two most populous states in the country, and I don't think either candidate even bothered to make a campaign stop in either state, except maybe to fund-raise.
Given how evenly divided we are, if we went by popular vote, candidates would have to focus on every state, big and small, to get every single vote they possibly can. There was less than one percent difference between the two candidates this year. Ignoring a few small states could easily be the difference between winning and losing.
It is possible we might go to a popular vote in the near future. A number of states have passed laws that would give all of their electoral votes to the candidate who wins the popular vote, and the laws will go into effect when enough states pass laws like this to make up more than 50 percent of the electoral college.
That old gag? LOL. Adopted, of course, by the 11 most liberal leaning jurisdictions in the country, some of which are also among the most populous. They obviously feel that this will convey some advantage to the left. I don't know if that is true or not, but good luck finding any traditionally red state, or even a swing state, to adopt something that might cede control over its electoral votes to the likes of urbanites in NYC, California, Chicago and Boston, among others. That thing has been floating around for 9 years now if memory serves and I suspect that it has obtained about all of the low hanging fruit that it is going to get. ;)

I totally agree that she didn't get elected because she's a strong woman. That scares people, including women. It becomes a question of "Why does she want power? What is she up to?" Male politicians can put their greed/pride/flaws all out in the open... we only have to look as far as Trump to see that... but it's accepted. Women have to navigate this impossible obstacle course of achieving big goals while still being attractive, demure, having a perfect track record...
The Late Night show with Seth Myers had a great monologue about how the next female U.S. president is still out there somewhere. Our world will be ready for her one day.
I really want to buy a "Nasty Woman" t-shirt, but I'm nervous about people seeing it without not knowing the context, lol...

No, it will make the election more fair, and every vote will count. Under our current system, getting 50.1 percent of the vote in most states gets the same results as getting 100 percent.

I disagree, she didn't get elected because she has too many baggages. She's not just a strong woman, she's a criminal. If obama doesn't pardon her, or she doesn't strike a deal with trump now. She's facing jail time.
Plus, she has all the bad qualities you can think of for a politician. She lies like it's her instinct. Elizabeth warren has warned everyone about her.
Hillary reminds me everything wrong about our government, Trump reminds me everything wrong about our culture.
Add:
If I think about it, in the debate, she has not said anything different or attractive to the middle class people. The forgotten men and women are tired of politician making empty promises. Trump is new, people tend to believe what he said. Like he asked her many times, where were you the past 30 years? What have you done in the past 30 years if you knew these things need to be fixed.
May I pose a question to the republicans? I haven't read all the thread but this is burning in my soul for about a year now. When Trump says "make America great again " which years are he referring to? Which years were America not great?

We won't be going with the popular vote. At least anytime soon.
It's not about fair. It's about politics. Don't see the big 3 CA, TX, and NY wanting to give up their heavy influence for their candidate nor any heavy leaning state for that matter. Good luck convincing them otherwise. Strike one
ETA: Funny how it's always the losing side that wants to change to the system. Strike two.
How about swing states. Think they're going to give up their position as Swing States and leverage? Strike three.

I'm not a Republican, but there are some things in America's past that definitely weren't great. Slavery, segregation, persecution of gays, to name a few. What has made America great are those people who have fought and continue to fight against such injustices.

That's why I needed the opinion of the republicans. They keep saying "again" and that they want their country back. Back to when exactly? For your life long republicans those things won't factor in to their equation.

If you voted for trump, you voted for white supremacy. All of his supporters are absolutely racist and to think otherwise is incredibly harmful.
8% of black voters, 29% of Asian and Latino voters are "absolutely racist" and "voted for white supremacy?" And these (very quickly found and read) publications are incredibly harmful and do not offer any explanation for the disillusioned middle class?

As for the 8% blacks......that's omerosa, Stacy dash, and their black friends (if they have any lol)
As much as America has progressed, in many ways things are similar to early 1900's and earlier. Back in those times during slavery there were a percentage of blacks who surprise! we're not comfortable in their own skin for whatever reason. They hate being black and side with those who hate it too....white supremacists. Even if they truely love their cultural heritage ethnicity what they enjoy more is the privilege they think they'll get voting for/associating with the group who holds the most power.
Yes people can be racist against their own race. Not all black people like other black people/people that associate with black people/etc.
Anyone remember that Chappell show episode where he was blind and didn't know he was black, joined the KKK (always masked of course), married a white woman, then when he regained his vision he divorced his loyal white wife because he discovered she was a n*gg*r lover. This is comedy however art and real life are often the same. Those 8% black who voted for trump I have no doubt many of them are similar to this.
I also have Asian ancestry but that side of my family did not vote for trump .... or so they say lol but I have no theory on why it's 29%

So that's the guy's name! I keep seeing him in news clips, and omg he is freaking hot... and well-spoken, I love it! :D
To the above comment about racism... yes, it's possible to be racist and a minority. Minorities do not magically love all other minorities... they're human beings and often have their own prejudices. My Mexican grandparents hated black people... and they loved people with fair skin. My cousin comes from a Mexican family yet he is a Republican who voted for Trump. He's half white with a Caucasian last name, so he probably identifies more with that side and doesn't face the same issues a dark-skinned Mexican would... but I bet he labeled himself as "Hispanic" or "Latino" when he registered to vote.
Also, a lot of people simply vote based on their party, and many minority groups vote Republican due to religion or other social values.

I remember it vividly. But if they were like him (Clayton Bigsby), they would have identified as white (he was told he was white by teachers at his school for the blind, since every other student was white) and filled out the exit poll accordingly. He learned he was black after taking off his hood at that KKK book signing, and never regained his vision. They can hate their own race, but it's just as likely a scenario that they simply (illogically) supported their perceptions of other platforms. Also, traditional Asians are pretty racist.
From that first aforementioned article:
"Nope, the real reasons Trump won have been real in America for at least the last 40 or so years. They are all the same reasons I finally recognized five-plus months ago when I first realized he was headed to victory. It's simple: The largest single economic group in our country has been sold out and ignored by the leaders of both parties for more than a generation. They are the hourly wage-earning Americans who have been bounced around from good manufacturing jobs, to service jobs, to seasonal work without the rest of us noticing that much. And that's even though there are a lot more of them than the college-educated white collar office workers out there. You know the financial uncertainty you felt last night when you saw the Dow futures crash down by 750 points? That's the kind of emotion millions of your fellow Americans have been feeling every night for years even though they're not "poor" or even necessarily unemployed."

I'm sure they secretly self identify as white. Think Racheal Dolezal or however you spell her name but in reverse.
But yes. I suppose the other portion of the 8% are those who were less concerned about cultural race related issues and voted for him for other reasons as you say.

Did anyone here watch the Brexit, live? I did. Yes, I'm a nerd.
It was amazing to see how similar the two were. The shock and disbelief in the pundits' eyes. The slow realization that they're living in a world they don't understand. Your entire reality crumbling before you. Anger, disbelief, frustration - both events unfolded the exact same way.
This is Rural America giving the finger to Urban America. Globalization's losers taking out on Globalization's winners. Blue-collar vs white-collar and "Budweiser America" vs "Starbucks America". The elites have learned nothing. The masses are angry and want blood. And populists like Trump know how to exploit that anger.
Trump will not, and cannot, bring back 1970's factory jobs. Nobody's paying the barely educated high-school quarterback in Bumfuck, Missouri, $20/hr to turn a wrench. Those days are gone. So how long until the masses turn on their God-Emperor? I give it two years.
If we're lucky, Trump does nothing drastic. But there is *one* way he can "help" the angry mob - by hurting everyone else. Protectionism on American goods. Tariffs on foreign goods. Stop trade with China, renegotiate NAFTA and other agreements. Put the brakes on the Free Trade/Globalization train. Roll-back the EPA and drill the shit out of everything. Who cares about the environment when you got a family to feed and a mortgage, right? And everyone will be worse off - except for his supporters. Oh and if he does go down that path, there'll probably be a war. A real one.
Anyway, Trump isn't that scary. Pence is scarier. Pence was born in 1894 and was cryogenically frozen in 1952. They thaw him out whenever Conservative Values are under attack, like this weird Bible-thumping super hero. He then goes back to his cryochamber to slumber once the danger has passed. Trump probably can't stand the guy. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a coup against Trump and Pence takes the reigns. The GOP's wet dream.....
I really need to stop at two beers.

White men being screwed over for years????
I thought your post was an April fools joke but it's October.
Um. Ok.
You'll neveR see an escort ad saying no white men allowed
There's a reason strippers flock to white customers over any other race
You'll never see a white man move into a majority non white area and property value drop.
Forbes list is majority white men
All the presidents except one was white
No one is threatening to deport white men
White men aren't systematically oppressed
At one point in time white men were the only ones who could vote
I could go on and on
Newsflash white men have held the power in many sectors for many centuries.
Please enlighten on how white men have been getting screwed? If you were screwed it's not cause you're white or anything related to your race.
And why is it so hard for racist people to admit they are racist? If a person thinks they are superior and is cool with oppression of people who are not white or full white ... own it.
And you vote for someone just to get revenge for your perceived "injustice"?!? I have No words for you.

Yes! This.
It's crazy to look at a map of the US election results... predictably, the middle of America is almost entirely republican, while the coastal cities are democrat. Brings to mind the civil war... our ways of life/philosophies are geographically separated. But how do we fix it?

Unfortunately, this is not true. This was not the work of just rural uneducated folks. College kids voted for him. And I mean lots of them. The upper middle class/white collar voted for him. Millennials. The data is there.
The one group of supporters I ran into at work were late 20's trust fund babies/consultants.

^^^^That is sad. Only 3 days in and the wheels are already falling off.
Meanwhile, all the people who love oppression elect a racist, sexist, homophobic leader now have an excuse to act just like him ... All while denying Oppression doesn't exist .....what a shocker.
Donald trump is waking up in the lap of luxury probably getting a thrill out of his minions doing his dirty work. If trump won then why are these people mad? Wouldn't they be celebrating or be happy?
I certainly hope this is not the way things are going to be and sane educated people will have sense to rise above the hate.
I am thankful I haven't yet had to deal with any hate but it is unfortunate to see this going on across the country.

This is just the beginning!
As a retired stripper, my heart goes to many of you ladies. Today I feel truly grateful to be out of the industry. If you think for a second this won't have an impact on the way men treat sex-workers in the future, you are living in la-la land! I'm sure we all remember that guy who violated our personal boundaries, licked, bit, kissed, or did something you didn't like? Those guys are magnets for strippers and strip clubs. Donald Trump is also THAT guy. Expect the misogyny to get worse. As it stands, men have little to no respect for female sex workers and this guy has validated their behavior. It's going to get worse.

Why do people always think racism is the main theme here? Many people voted for trump aren't KKK like, they simply don't like what happened to their lives in the past 8 year. Obama failed on many issues. Trump won for a reason, and it 's not because he's a white supremacist. He started out campaigning mostly as a narcissist stunt and seems to have realized over time that he was actually needed as someone capable to do the most important development job and deal making in the nation. Make America great again doesn't equal make America white again. It means make living in America desirable again. on the side note, white will not be majority in about 50 years. That's a fact, it is what it is. As of the misbehaved customers, an asshole is an asshole. he will act like one despite who the president is. If hillary wins, he will not treat us any better.

Thanks for clarifying a bit. And I am not saying people don't have rights to feelings and feeling how they want to feel.
However,
I wonder how some of these white men would feel if they woke up tomorrow as a woman or as a person of color or as a person with special needs, etc. Or as a group who as REALLY been oppressed for decades or longer.
White men Have been at the top of the power chain since ..... forever ..... and they're angry?!? For what???
Please give real example of groups of white men being oppressed? The only oppression they face is what they manufactured in their head when they thought that equality for all meant losing their power and privilege.

Hmmm.... Where to start?
There have been hiring policies for years to encourage hiring women and minorities over equally or better qualified white males. I understand the reasons for this, but it still has a "screw" effect for white males. Also, as a white male, my right to express myself has been restricted greatly in recent years.
Let me give you just one example. This guy is a developer for Electronics Arts, a major video game company. If I ever said any of the things he said, I would be fired immediately. He makes threats against whites with no action taken by his employer.
http://heatst.com/culture-wars/mass-effect-designer-manveer-heir-hates-white-people-and-wants-the-world-to-know/
This is just one example of many. People take shots at us, and yet there is a double standard, as we cannot respond without being persecuted.
I assume that the reason escorts don't exclude whites, is that because they are treated better by whites, or have had bad experiences with non-whites.
If we can move to a non-white area and not have property values drop, maybe it is because we are good neighbors.
Maybe another reasons why whites are on the Forbes lists is because we work hard, improve ourselves through education, and don't have an entitlement attitude like many millennials do today.
People who have been threatened with deportation are in the country illegally. Many Hispanics who entered legally are in agreement with this. Trump actually got a large number of votes from Hispanics, blacks and women.
I won't dispute that there have been inequalities in the past. I think slavery was horribly wrong and inexcusable, and I am not proud of our treatment of blacks in the past. But realize this. The white males today had no part in slavery or creating those unfair policies. I'm sick of being blamed for something that I had absolutely no part in.
I don't know how you think all whites were born with silver spoons in their mouths. My grandmother saved "used string" so we didn't have to buy new string. I worked my way through college. Yes, I have become very successful through hard work, and I argue that anyone in America can do the same if they are willing to do so.
Our current president is black. How can you say that black's don't have opportunity in America? Obama has risen to the top position in the country. He is the most powerful man in the world. (I also voted for him twice, btw). I don't care about a person's race or sex, as long as they are qualified, and do a good job.
And I didn't vote for Trump for "revenge". He was simply the better of two simply awful candidates. I actually didn't expect him to win. The liberal tears were just an unexpected benefit.

He didn't post "rural uneducated" just "rural." Looking at the map below from the WSJ, it's right. There's a big sociopolitical divide and people living on the coasts or in cities for big parts of their lives are unlikely to see it. Hopefully the Democratic party learns their lesson and, instead of assuming they have the working class votes, figures out what is important to them and actively tries to win it back. This outcome should not be stunning after analyzing the results.

No, it will make the election more fair, and every vote will count. Under our current system, getting 50.1 percent of the vote in most states gets the same results as getting 100 percent.
First of all we have a FEDERAL system. Secondly we are a Republic and do not have a Parliamentary system. Third , if you like the riots and disturbances that are going on now ( afaic it's a national hissy fit by a lot of people who didn't bother to vote or volunteer ) just wait and see what happens if a few unelected party hacks in a few states vote contrary to the vote in their state in the Electoral College. That giant click you will hear will be the safety being taken off a couple million guns. At least.
We haven't had an Electoral College debate since Bush The Dumber won in 2000. And win he did. The Florida recount showed he won by about 900 votes. Abolishing the Electoral College will NEVER happen. The Constitution will have to be amended requiring approval by 3/4 of the states i.e. 38 states. Good luck getting states like Wyoming , Montana , the Dakotas , Alaska , Rhode Island , Delaware , Oklahoma , Idaho etc. to go along. Under the current system they have a voice in the process that will disappear if we just go to a national popular vote. The candidates will spend all their time in cities and suburbs.

<snip>
Plus, if it's possible, we need to change our voting process. The electoral college votes have to reflect the popular votes proportionally, in which Hillary could have won this election. But that's what the real democracy is about. The "all or nothing rule" is absurd.
Don't forget that Bernie Sanders won the NH Primary, but Hillary got most of the delegates including 'super delegates'. Voters wanted an outsider, someone to shake up Washington, since Hillary, the DNC and her machine shut him out, voters looking for someone new it happened to be Trump. I'm as shocked as anyone, but that's what happens when you rig the system.
Hillary spent $1.2B to Trump's $790M (Couldn't $2.1B be put to a better use?!) Trump didn't need to spend as much because media followed his every move so they could report what dumb thing he would say next. Dumb like a fox?
Nothing is ever as good as you think or as bad. One of Obama's campaign promises was to close Guantanamo. (A 'black eye' to the US on the world stage, locking people up with no due process.) Once the problem of what to do with the bad actors there, no other countries wanting them, Guantanamo is still there.

How did that old movie line go? "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore! ". I guess there are 50 million of us that are tired of it as well.
The problem with SJW's are that if you disagree with them, you are racist, sexist, etc. and yet they respond with racist diatribes against whites, and no one dares call them out. Enough!
Bwaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahhaha.
What????
He's already flip flopping on his supporters and you think this is a win for white men? The wall is not happening, the muslim ban was just a hook and your mining jobs ain't coming back. The ONLY whites that should be jumping for joy are those the top. Donald Trump doesn't even trust Donald Trump and you're putting so much faith in him. Give it a year - you'll be crying too. Trust the dancers who avoid black men in the club (cause they don't want to waste their time with low/non spenders which is wise but also cause being seen with black men lowers their value in eyes of the white male spenders) are the same ones with black boyfriends and mixed kids at home. Dancers flock to white men cause its assumed they're they ones with money. And on average, they really are. Saying white men treat women better is not accurate. White men are just as likely to assault a woman as any other race of men.
Escorts....ima leave that topic alone cause the transaction is more intimate and they have no security or surveillance like strippers do.
I thought Our current president is half black and half white. He just happens to have caramel tone skin and look like the average black male. But I get what you're saying though. And yes that was a major breakthrough and success to show young people of color they can be leaders and accomplish positive goals too.
I never said blacks don't have opportunities. Im not sure how old you are, But we were coming out of an era where opportunities were denied to people of color and it took things like affirmative action to get equal opportunities. Otherwise seeing "Denzel" on an application means instant disqualification. Now I'm not talking about instances where affirmative action was intentionally abused Im talking legitimate situations. Affirmative action is not always synonymous with less qualified people getting hired. Affirmative action is not going to put Ray Ray from the hood with a GED into a corporate CEO position. It doesnt work like that. In the instances a person is less qualified gets hired --- think why? Schools with majority black or hispanic populations are often times not the same quality as majority white schools....And why are schools still segregated anyways???
Are there lazy people who suck up government resources, unfortunately yes. But this is a small percentage and not the majority besides, living off welfare is not a satisfying way to live in my opinion. Most successful people I know do work hard, contribute to society, and achieve worthwhile goals. And I believe you don't necessarily have to work your fingers to the bone slaving away relentlessly to get ahead but you do have to work smarter and efficiently.
I never said all white men today should be blamed for past oppression. Not all white men are like the slave owners or white supremacist. I have white family members and they are not like that at all.
I am saying our country, despite the advancements in civil rights/women's rights/etc., is still divisive there are still huge gaps in inequality.
The thing is America is so abundant and we ALL have opportunities as long as we can view each other as equal but there has always got to be some narcissist or someone who has to take control and power over others.
I guarantee. If you could be reincarnated as any race or gender, you'd chose white man over anything else......

This is where it gets sticky and where EVERYONE needs to take a deep breath and try to relax. We are veering toward emotional as opposed to factual arguments and it doesn't take much for one or two posters to lose their cool and start with the name-calling.
If Obama and Trump can be civil toward each other then so can all of us. And they can't stand each other. If Obama can smile and campaign for Hillary , If Ryan and McConnell and a host of other "Never Trumpers" can accept the result of the election then so can all of us.
I have been saddened by listening to guys like Van Jones and Al Sharpton complain that this election was racial. They obviously didn't look at the numbers. As other posters have noted , Trump got more Black , Latino and Asian votes than Romney did. Hillary got fewer black votes than Obama did. You wanna know why she lost Ohio and Pa. ? A lot of black voters in Cleveland , Pittsburgh and Philly stayed home . If you want to blame somebody, blame Hillary. Or blame Warren for not running . Or Biden BUT he had a great reason not to as he was mourning the death of his son.
Generally the tone of this thread has been excellent. Everyone is having their say and venting within reasonable parameters. And that's fine. If I'd supported Hillary ; if I was so anxious to see a female President that I was willing to overlook a lot of things ; if I'd bought into the polls and media reports on Tuesday BEFORE the results came in I too would be very disappointed.
Likewise , one reason I did NOT vote for Trump is I didn't like him. I didn't like his rhetoric. I didn't like him mocking a disabled person. I didn't like him going after a "Gold Star Family ". I give him a pass on Rosie O'Donnell because 1. she started it and 2. has said worse things about him . I don't want him to build a wall. I do however want him to keep us safe and there are people in this world that wish us harm. Just add up all the terrorist attacks IN the U.S. AFTER 9/11. Should we ban all Muslims ? No and Trump is NOT going to do it. Should we vet them carefully ? Absolutely and as president Trump has the power and discretion to enforce the immigration laws. He NEVER said that he was going to have mass roundups of Muslims or an "Operation Wetback " as Eisenhower and FDR both did. Yeah, that's right. FDR was not much of a libertarian. So when Van Jones makes up silly stories of his Muslim friends calling him with irrational worries or Latinos LEGALLY in this country fearing deportation it doesn't help matters. We all know what Sharpton is and if he didn't say something inflammatory and factually delinquent he'd be rendered totally mute.
Some people are talking and behaving as though Trump led a military coup. Or Republicans were caught stuffing the ballot box. Hillary lost AN ELECTION. Now let's see how Trump governs. I cautiously predict that IF he focuses on improving the economy and keeping us safe he may very well be a very good President. If he gets distracted by silly stuff ,if he gets down in the gutter with his opponents and critics then he is likely to be a one-term President.
There were a lot of people who didn't like it when Obama won. ( I voted for him in 2008 btw ) And there was some of this " Not My President " nonsense that we are seeing and hearing now. Those people were just as wrong as those holding up those signs now. YES HE WAS ( Obama ). YES HE IS ( Trump ). If you don't like his policy proposals then there will be plenty of time and opportunity to protest , peacefully demonstrate and vote for those who promise to oppose his policies. Why are those demonstrators trashing downtown Portland or smashing the car windows of people who voted for Hillary ?
Earl Warren knew Nixon well. Nixon was a California congressman when Warren was governor. Then Eisenhower appointed him to the SCOTUS. Nixon and Warren couldn't stand each other . And yet Warren always showed Nixon respect when he was President. When asked why Warren said : "Respect the office , not the man." The military has a corollary : "We salute the rank not the person." If we are going to have a civil society and a civil board here at S-Web then we all have to respect each other and our right to opinions.Especially opinions that we don't like or agree with. We can all agree about the lunatic fringes . There is no reason to respect Nazi or Klan ideas and anyone that espouses them. That's not what we are talking about . I disagree with Eagle all the time about many things. But I always try to be civil with him and he with me. Let's all try to do likewise and this can really be a fun and educational board. We have already seen a wide variety of views and postings and I think it is great. How boring would this board be if we always agreed with each other about everything ? But let's keep it civil and be VERY careful about any racial element.
Wishing well to one and all.

As I expected.... first thing trump did: Shutdown TPP.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership is dead. Trump and congress cancelled unfair trade deal with Asia.
“There is no way to fix the TPP,” Trump said in a June economic address. “We need bilateral trade deals. We do not need to enter into another massive international agreement that ties us up and binds us down.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2016/11/10/the-trans-pacific-partnership-is-dead-schumer-tells-labor-leaders/
Next thing, get China and TPP countries back to negotiation table and make a new deal.
