I am looking for a mic. That's fine, I will look at the recommendations on this thread.

HOWEVER. My other half (musician) has informed me that "it would be better if you got an interface so that you can run the headphones through it". He's tried to explain that it's better cos the plug/socket connection is better....? Really??

So ladies - do you have a piece of kit that you run your mic/headphone/equipment through? Or do you plug straight into the computer and he's just making everything more complicated and my eyes glaze over?

He's talking about a mixer and it doesn't sound like you need one of those. Unless you want to really get into manipulating your audio, a usb mic is just fine. The blue yeti is the current standard for usb microphones.

When you're ready to upgrade check out the GoXlr products and the Elgato Wave. It just depends on what you want to do with your audio? Because there are even more high end products than what I listed.

Nah no need to complicate things unless you specifically want an xlr mic. There are plenty of usb mics, and others you can plug in to an external recorder like the zoom or tascam series, and then into your computer or phone.

Thanks, no not a mixer (I don't think, he didn't use that word), I am guessing it's kind of like an external sound...carrier? Processor? Dunno lol. I did think I had never ever heard of ladies using any extra hardware but thought I would check in case I had missed something.

Blue Yeti is on my "research" list :)

EDITED... oooh I like the look of the Blue Yeti.

I just came across this USB condenser mic (hard to find) on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y1C6GDS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ZSCXXV56XBV4YR83JQDG?_encodin g=UTF8&psc=1

Its great for starting out (asmr) because it comes with an articulated arm plus a pop filter!

I use bluetooth earbuds for cam. You have to make sure your computer is compatible with them but I find it to be the best sound if you move around a lot. For Example during shows with my back to the camera I am still nice and clear.

I'm currently using a Blue Snowball. I'm happy with the way it sounds. I don't think it's crisp enough for asmr, but for camming and clips I'm happy. I will note that it can pick up sounds your ears don't hear. I just recorded a voiceover for one of my clips today and I can hear a tv in the background which must be coming from someone else's apartment. So, yeah, pretty powerful.

I wish the stupid OBS encoder would stop fucking with my microphone settings, and just LEAVE IT to the microphone I've had it on. This is why dudes don't be hearing me half the time (and I don't even realize it)...because the stupid encoder keeps selecting a different mic than my Brio.

You just need to plug in a headset into the mic so you can hear the input properly

Ok, so I want tp uograde my microphone to something crispier and more clear. Now I use a Blue Snowball and most of my customers are crazy for it, but the magic dissapears when I get away from the desk, or even when I just rest my back in my chair :))

So, any suggestions? I was thinking to get a Blue Yeti, but is there any better option? My budget is up to $500, so I am really open to suggestions.

Also, I was thinking to get a bluetooth headset, since it looks like the best option for my needs, aka having my mouth close to the microphone every single time. I have been looking all over youtube for the best ones and this is the best I could have find: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-OfficeRunner-Convertible-Wireless-Microphone/dp/B003VKVXF2/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1AQLSXBF0XFEZ&dchild=1&keywords=EPOS+IMPACT+DW+Office+ML&qid=1635901391&qsid=147-5726287-3825122&sprefix=epos+impact+dw+office+ml%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-4&sres=B00EVNVIUS%2CB07F1GH9Z3%2CB00JPFUVUU%2CB003VK VXF2%2CB07P68C84D%2CB088LV8RLD%2CB006UGTB30%2CB085 2XM2KC%2CB08Q7Q6KFY%2CB07K9MPWFF%2CB0056DHZ6S%2CB0 1N5CS28J%2CB01MV4I26D%2CB01LA746D8%2CB002AFECOI%2C B01N5QBUUT%2CB01MRDNCF1%2CB01NCEELHW%2CB01MF9DJCG% 2CB098NCJ8SP&srpt=HEADPHONES

I don't know what to choose between a microphone or a headset. It's really difficult to find a headset that is as good as a broadcasting microphone, but the option above seems decent. Anyone has experience with a more pricey bluetooth headset? Is it suitable for live streaming, as I see no mentions about it? Everyone talks about calls, as I want to broadcast with it.

I am open for both suggestions for headsets or microphones, at this point, haha. I have been looking all over youtube, but you know... none of the reviews are from camgirls looking to make men horny with their voice :))).

I currently use a deity pro mic in conjunction with a Canon DSLR and that works perfectly for me. But I still believe the yeti is the best USB microphone for plug and play streaming.

Something just mildly more expensive than the Yeti will yield vastly better results. In our line of work it's rather unusual? That we'd be just an inch away from the mic we're speaking into, and I can recommend just a basic xlr audio interface (I have the Focusrite Scarlet 2i2, but something even cheaper, or with just one single XLR connection will do just fine!) and any shotgun mic (I have the AT875R - budget option - and BP28 - not so budget option lying around, can recommend both, and these too can perform amazingly well for how cheap they can be.). Those reject noise from any angle they are not facing.

This just comes with the added "annoyance" of having to deal with an xlr mic, but it really only means there is one additional device between your computer and your mic. Mic goes into interface, interface goes into computer, done.

A big plus though is that xlr cables can have near infinite range where USB cannot. They're also industry standard.

Alternatively, you'd be surprised just how good Lavalier mics can be, if you can carry one on your person in such a way that it's not annoying or too visible. They can sound absolutely amazing and be very affordable too, they can just be mildly annoying until you get used to them. These are definitely not suitable for your son(lol), but they start at 60 bucks. Those are those tiny "interview mics" you wear on your person. Now - those don't work as well for performers who get 100% nude, but honestly, even then, men don't really care too much.

Any mic has info on its polar pattern available, and I assume you'll usually want one that:
Picks up sound well at the desired range(s), and at the desired angle
Has total or near total rejection from behind, or at 210/90deg. Think about what your setup looks like and how much you move around (or do not).

The Blue Yeti is basically "fine", it'll usually just sound a little tin-y, and a little static-y and a little echo-y, and I'll be a little elitist and say "it sounds cheap." At least when you can contrast it with some perfectly "clean" audio, because it:

- Picks up far more trash noise and echos than you'll usually want it to
- Produces static
- Doesn't have very good medium range performance (are you really only ever going to be an inch or two or three away form your mic?)

Now I also use my mic for filming videos, and I move around *a lot*, so range and clean audio is very important to me, and I have according needs.

Now if you really want to learn "a little" about how "professional" audio can be done at a budget, even just tech youtubers are usually a perfectly adequate choice to get informed about how to put a setup together and what the good budget options are, with plenty tutorials on how to install an xlr mic. But really, it's basically as simple as mic into interface, interface into computer. Some mics will say the require phantom power. In this case, you need an interface that provides 48v/phantom power - which it'll state in the description.

Tip though: If you want to get serious about audio, don't buy the cheap Neewer mics. That type of Omni or Semi- cardioid mic will, again, sound like crap at long-range, and also- pick up all the background noise IN THE WORLD. Google will usually tell you at what angle a mic pics up, and up to what range it produces good results, and it's smart to choose accordingly. You'll find mic tests on Youtube for basically any mic - so - you can always just listen to what they sound like before you buy one. Make sure the tester shows what the mic sounds like at the range from which *you* will be speaking into yours. If you are actually going to bother getting an xlr mic, you might as well get one that'll actually surpass the comfortable usb mic options.

I second this, I upgraded in 2021 from a blue yeti to a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface with a rode nt1 mic, the quality is superb and made a huge difference with clips and making mp3s to send out on either niteflirt or sextpanther. The yeti's are good and will last one a long time, they do require some fine tuning in obs to unlock it's full potential, If I have some time this week I'll try to post the quality difference's as well with distance

Does anyone here use the Logitech 4k webcam (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5UOYC4/)? I'm still on my C920 and looking to upgrade. Wondering if the internal mic is good enough or if I should just invest in an ext. mic as well.

I want to be able to record with it between cam sessions. I wonder if doing so will give me the same issue as before with hearing the camera adjusting sounds on auto focus....?

Many of us are using it, I think I was one of the first in here who got it, back in 2018 and never looked back. It's a pretty dope webcam, especially if you play with the contrast, it makes the skin look flawless :)).
The internal mic is decent and it doesn't make any sounds, but if you want to record videos, I reccomend you an external mic. It's not that expensive, but worth the $$$, customers love a clear audio (just go trough different cam rooms and see how annoying it is to not be able to clearly hear what the model says). I use Blue Yeti Nano and I am pleased with it.

I am looking to buy a good quality headset but not one that completely breaks the bank. I need one that picks up sound very well and has noise cancellation. I want to be able to talk/moan in a very low tone where customers can still hear me. I was looking at this one https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-Voyager-Wireless-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B00DQ5NU76/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=Plantronics&qid=1652121734&sr=8-2-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzU0dYVDhQVUJVM0NUJ mVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzEzODQ2MkxXQ0xBQ0ozWUk5TCZlbmN yeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMjI2NTgzM0c1VkdHT1o1MjNMQyZ3aWRnZ XROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05 vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1

After reading the reviews I'm not so sure this will be a great choice. A lot of the reviews are saying it has some "feature" where it disconnects on its own often because it has a sensor that detects if you are wearing it or not. I don't want to buy it based on that alone. Does anyone have any recommendations for one in a similar price range?

Hmmm, can you return it if you don't like it? I think the best way is to get it and test it yourself. Unfortunately, for something under $100, it can always come with some cons, but you can test it. I looked at it and it has 25k reviews and almost 70% are 5 stars reviews, so... the chances to work good are pretty high. As time as you can return it if you're not pleased, give it a try and see!

I highly recommend 1) Bluetooth Airpod Pros (NOT THE REGULAR AIR PODS) and 2) My HyperX Quadcast S. I use the Elgato rig with the multiflex arm and an adapter I bought off Amazon!

The only thing w/Amazon returns is you have a month only, which is pretty standard.
Also, I think some of their reviews aren't genuine?

I like to buy electronics from http://www.newegg.com it may be about the same return duration (depending on vendor) but they have a decent track record for stuff.

I bought a Snowball to replace a Yeti which I wanted to use somewhere else and was fed up of moving things all the time.

Then I read this thread again, and panicked.

However I've found the Snowball is absolutely fine, and I no longer have the laptop automatically selecting Yeti as speaker.

Very happy suits my space. I tested it by making a video walking around the room, different distances away. I do have volume turned right up, used Windows settings menu for this.

Ladies, i read this thread and the Cammodel Technology thread and still not sure - please advice a great external microphone to use when i have really noisy background - cats, dogs and hubby in the next room. I don't want that custies hear them. Figured out Yetti is picking out background sounds too much. Also don't want a headset. Thank you!

Hmmmm, any mic will pick up background sounds, but there are a few ways to reduce this... here's an article about it: https://www.alphr.com/reduce-background-noise-mic/

Anyway, the closer you got the mic to you, it will pick your voice better and less of the other sounds. Maybe someone else can give a better advice...

You need a cardioid microphone aka a unidirectional mic. They only pick up sound from one direction, the front. The Yeti has a cardioid setting on it. Switch it to the symbol that looks like a heart and then make sure the outside noise is coming from behind the mic. Deity and Rode also make high quality mics. A step up from those would be the Shure brand.

Another great option is Rode they are excellent and have $100 and up pricing depending on their mics you can see via Amazon

I must have missed the part where you said to make sure the outside noise is coming from behind the mic.

I have a Yeti and I didn't think it was working right. I was looking to replace it but I decided to check this thread first. I turned it around and what a difference! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
