Okay ladies... let's talk about brushes. For years I've applied my make-up with my fingers. But I now realize that some looks do better with a brush. Who do you recommend.
Colourpop has decent brushes for an inexpensive price point. I have so many brushes it's ridiculous, from all sorts of brands, but my favorite brushes of all come from Wayne Goss. Super expensive BUT they are like applying your makeup with fingertips of a furry angel lol. My favorite powder brush comes from Too Faced, the Mr. Perfect brush. It's the perfect shape and is adjustable with the little bow-tie strap. Royal & Langnickel is another great brush line, and I believe they are sold everywhere....their Moda Pro line are the best affordable eye brushes out there. Sigma is another amazing brush line, albeit bordering on the more expensive. Theres really so many great brushes out there at all different price points. I'd advise grabbing a brush set from R &L or Morphe or BH Cosmetics if this is your first foray into using brushes and just try them out and see what you like and what you dont in brushes, before really investing in your long-term brushes

I wanna be touched by a furry angel. ♥️ But I think Wayne Goss (and Sonia G) are out of my league right now. Her set is like $400. But I ain't mad at the hustle, I just want to make sure I'm making an appropriate investment. Thank you for other suggestions to start with.

BTW I'm getting the brush set in this video. The Zoeva Aristo brush kit. I'm gonna add a few others to test out too. Right now it's all loaded in my shopping cart and waiting for me to pull the trigger.

Damn you have some skill! I wish my makeup looked even half as good as your when I used my fingers lol!
I have a variety of brushes that I love and have stood the test of time.
This set (https://www.amazon.com/BESTOPE-Belly-type-Professional-Foundation-Highlighter/dp/B07QY683BY?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1) is excellent for the price. It's great for highlighter, setting/loose powder, and some eyeshadow looks. Had it almost a year and haven't had any bristles fall out so that's a win in my book!
IT cosmetics is pricier but makes stellar brushes if the price point isn't a factor. Their brushes are well made and don't fall apart.
My all time shadow brush is by Luxie. it's a precision shader (https://www.luxiebeauty.com/products/luxie-239-precision-shader-rose-gold) that blends like a dream. Their brushes are awesome and fairly inexpensive for the quality you're getting (they also have a 20% off coupon rn for new "stay in touch" subscribers and any order over $20 gets free shipping in the US)
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I'd stay away from MAC brushes. I've purchased 3 over the years directly from MAC stores and while they are excellent in many ways (soft & did what they advertised to do quite well), I always have bristles that start falling out after a few months and eventually throw them away. For the kind of $$ they charge, I expect them to hold up better than $10 brushes from amazon.

Sigma or Zoeva. I got some Sigma this year for 40% during black friday. I truly advise agaisnt Morphe. Cheaply made, not a good investment on the long run (and I'm talking about months, that's so fast they break).
I love Regina! She's so talented and 100% makeup, no drama around her. Very relaxing to watch her tutorials, plus you can pick up skills.

i vote for sigma or zoeva. I have some amazing sigma ones of like 4-5 years and they are holding on good. The paint on the handle kinda starts fading as they are purple but the bristles are still freaking amazing.

I'm glad I asked this question because you guys really helped narrow things down. I just ordered that Zoeva Aristo set and two Luxie brushes. Honestly I just want to see what the difference will be vs my finger tips. Occasionally I'd use a brush leftover from a paint set. ☺️
I'm gonna read up on Sigma and Chikuhodo next. Normally I try to avoid the comment section on YT, but honestly that's the only way I would have ever learned about some these brushes.

Japanese brushes are bomb, but not worth investing from my POV. I don't think they can level up your makeup game that much, compared to decent priced ones. If you have the budget, go for it, otherwise not life changing.
I have a few Sonia G and Wayne. I like them, but I still do the blend, maybe 10% better than a good Sigma. Way sooofter, tho.
For creamy products I usually use sponges (foundation, concealer, cream blush). They leave no marks behind and have an airbrushed finish. I usually buy on sale wherever I can find, most of them are BeautyBlender, cause they have limited editions all the time.

PETA has updated the list of companies that do test their products on animals. Even tho, they claim to be cruelty free in Europe and USA, they do pay for animal testing in China. A part of the brands: OPI, Victoria's Secret, Benefit, Estee Lauder, La Mer, Clinique, Makeup Forever, Maybelline.
I am sad to read about this, since I am a big fan of lots of theese brands. I'll have to look for replacements.

Any company that SELLS in china (made is fine) puts your money into animal testing. Even through they all say they don't test, they do if this is the case as it is required by law in china. As a vegan i only ever buy truly cruelty free. These blogs are my go to https://www.crueltyfreekitty.com/ and https://ethicalelephant.com/cruelty-free-brand-list/ (and peta is also useful). The above companies have never been truly cruelty free.

Yeah, I am starting to learn now. Unfortunately, I haven't documented myself too much, when I was seeing that the package says "cruelty free", I was trusting them. For some reason, I am dumb enough to believe not all the companies are evil and some really do have good intentions and wouldn't do such a thing, as, lying the clients.
How wrong I was. I will be more careful from now.
I am really sad, because L'oreal is the only mascara brand I have been using for years, because it really makes my lashes fabulous, ugh... need to find a good replacement...

It's not dumb at all, it's how most of us operate unless you have reason to look deeper. These companies use deliberate tactics to hide what they really do. When you read "we do not test on animals", you believe it. They are master manipulators.

i was just mentioning how the essence mascaras are the exception to the "more expensive products last longer" rule. They are the bomb ! Especially lash princess (the green one).
IF we talk about amazing cheap products, wet and wild mega glo highlighter is freaking amazing and lasts forever (the packaging breaks kinda easy but who cares? lol ).
The rmca translucent powder also. It is 12 $ for 3 oz. I adore it. Oh, oh, I recently discovered the artdeco clear lash and brow gel (it's like 10$) but it lasts also a long time and it holds my eyebrows in place like none (i was looking for a cheap alternative to the abh one).
If i remeber something I will come back and edit or post here haha !

I have oily skin so if you have recommendations for balancing/toner/collagen masks, it's a plus!

I use a bunch of the Que Bella mask you find at both Target and Walmart. I have oily skin too so I tend to use ones that have charcoal in it and sometimes a citrus blend.
This one is my favorite https://www.quebellabeauty.com/our-range/intense-detoxifying-black-peel-off-mask/
My life long face mask remedy is diy: egg whites mixed with ground up coffee. It tightens and energizes your skin and then exfoliates dead skin when you wash it off. I do this once a month and the que bella mask three times a month. My daily face wash is Clearasil Deep Rescue Treatment with Salicylic Acid. I don't have acne but it's helped to fade my dark spots. Whenever I feel like I'm starting to get a little dry I use a hyaluronic acid formula from Neutrogena. I've been thinking about investing in a mircrodermabrasian device because Spa visits are expensive.

I'm pulling longer shifts on cam to pre-empt for slower days, what with how uncertain things are, atm.
This is a bit of a weird one, but I just wanted to get some of your experiences with this..I am planning on upping my 8-10 hour shifts to more like 12-15. So, with make up, obviously I do what I can to make it last..primer, moisturiser soaked in first etc etc. But do you girls touch up your make up by adding more base/concealer, highlighter and so on? Or do you find when it gets to that point, you need to reapply make up from scratch? I don't want things to look cakey but I also don't want to waste time. Would love to hear what you do. Thanks. x

I start over with fresh makeup because after awhile there's just no saving it. But I also have oily skin and after seven hours my make-up moves around a bit. It's very noticeable under my eyes. Using a color corrector and a blur stick from elf are my two best weapons to fight this and hold it together for as long as I can.

With things as they are and all the nail salons closed for heaven only knows how long, I decided to take the plunge and buy a full set. I also purchased some regular glue on nails in case shit hits the fan and the polygel doesn't pan out.
Update: I tried the Modelone version of polygel nails (https://www.amazon.com/Modelones-Polish-Starter-Glitter-Manicure/dp/B07SS8BC4R?ref_=ast_sto_dp) and unless you like them on the short side & redo your nails often, it's a waste of $ without also using tips and forming to those (verses using the provided duel forms that you fill and just stick on). I found the kit relatively thorough, especially if you like nail art or have never used gel polish before and need a light/polish (you do still have to buy something called slip solution or use rubbing alcohol though to use the kit). You definitely need to be precise and have an electric nail drill with multiple bits as well. On its own, Polygel is MUCH weaker than acrylic BUT it doesn't dry until it's cured under an UV or LED light, so you can work with the shape endlessly, add to it with ease, and clean up your cuticles all without fear of it drying on you. That being said, if you don't nail the application (no pun intended), the polygel chips, breaks, or starts peeling off within hours. Like 3 of mine either started peeling, chipped, or straight up broke within 12 hours (cured each nail for 2 minutes on top, and 30 seconds on the bottom so I don't think the cure was the issue for the polygel itself). once I got the hang of the application process, it was very easy and the shorter/thicker nails have stayed in place. also their gel polish is excellent quality, though I wish it came in better colors.
If you decide to give this a shot, I highly recommend watching a bunch of polygel youtube videos before trying it yourself, as the directions aren't nearly as thorough as they could be.
Because short nails are not my jam and due to the fact that they definitely need reinforcement if you want any kind of length beyond half an inch or so, I'm going to give it another shot with some tips and see how they hold up. I'm also going to buy another brand of polygel and see if that was part of the issue.

If you shop around a bit you can find some legit sites that sell pro quality stuff if you pinky swear you are pro.
I haven't taken the full plunge into redoing my nails because I feel they deserve this break, my beds are rough. But I have been doing my own gels and taking all the vitamins. I will probably break down and do some acrylics or gel forms in like 3 weeks.
I am also finding that I have become quite a pro at false lashes but so desperate for extensions. But a lot of companies have really upped their quality all of a sudden. Like a lot of companies during this time to fulfill a need. If you ever wanted to try dyi this is the time.

Omg so, I discovered this brand, called Revolution Makeup.
Ok, I have been hearing about them for a while, but now I saw a pallete at a good price, a dupe of a much more expensive pallete and I decided to give it a try.
All I can tell is: I am SHOCKED! The colors are sooo pigmented, the price is a fucking steal, just paid like $15 for a pallete with 36 eyeshadows. Basically I bought 2 palletes?!?
Oh, this is the pallete: https://www.revolutionbeauty.com/us/us/makeup/eyeshadow-palettes/x-petra-eyeshadow-palette/20803.html

revolution is my favourite brand - I literally use revolution EVERYTHING but lipstick lol
Out of curiosity, why do you avoid their lipsticks?
I rarely use it, but I'm trying to perfect a decent lipstick look both for cam and off. it has been an undertaking. I tend to stick with stains because they don't smudge or smear as easily and I do a lot of BJ shows.

god every bj show I have to redo my chin foundation, it's annoying but anything I have tried that doesn't do the transfer just feels like it is suffocating my lips! The new huda lip products works fairly well but I apply with my finger so it's more of a stain. Oh and Charlotte tilbury lip products tend not to smear horribly.

*bump*
So on my quest for nice long nails (even with all the salons here closed probably through july or August), I decided to throw down with some different polygel than before. My nails weren't lasting & i was super discouraged, but I'd already invested in nail lights, polishes, drills, and basically a while kit of other odds and ends. Started watching a bunch of videos from "LongHairPrettyNails (https://www.youtube.com/user/00MarsReiko00/videos)" and realized that the modelone polygel I had received must have been a really bad batch because they were basically jelly and broke or ripped off constantly. tbh, for all the time, effort, and precision it took to prep, fill, shape, cure, and paint the damn nails just to have them break in a day or two, their polygel made me feel utterly defeated. After watching some of LHPN's other polygel videos, I decided to give it one last spin, as her nails come out gorgeous, long, and most importantly sturdy. Purchased some Gershion brand polygel (https://www.amazon.com/Gershion-Extension-Builder-Enhancement-Thickening/dp/B07MXCQLX2?ref_=ast_sto_dp) in the color clear and HOLY EFFING HECK it was like opening a whole new world of possibilities!!! It's harder than acrylic nails and yet lighter! I haven't had to reinforce them with any kind of tip & can just use duel forms to put them on. the best part, they actually cure! I've had my current set on for 2 weeks without breaking a single nail or peeling up and even did a halfway decent job filling them. With a bit of practice, I can actually see myself not having to rely on a nail salon at all (and seeing as I was spending well over 1.5k per year on acrylics and pedicures, that would be a lot of saved $$$).
I do have a question: Can anyone recommend some gel polishes that aren't crazy expensive? I'd like to expand my collection but don't really want to drop $100 on like 10 polishes

sorry I didnt see this!
I wouldnt say I avoid them - I just buy more expensive ones usually - lipsticks are the only thing I spend a lot on makeup wise lol
I do have a dark purple revolution one and it's fine especially for cam - but it does peel and come off after a while. I like liquid lipsticks that are matte so Im uber fussy

I love revolution. Got the nude palette today as a freebie from the local drugstore here. Swatched it and it has great color payoff. Excited to try it out tomorrow. I use a lot of makeup on cam so I prefer to use budget makeup for cam. I tend to reserve my higher end make up for my time off :P
I love doing makeup! Got a few tips also:
- For cam, its better to go a little darker than lighter on your foundation shades. When I use my 'normal' color, I tend to look pale. When I use a more tanned color, it looks better on cam.
- You can't find a good foundation tone? If you are pale and feel like even the lightest color is ' too dark ' for you, you are probably using the wrong undertone. Try using a different undertone. There are three. Yellow, Rose and Neutral. Very few of us are neutral: most people are more pink or more olive. This goes for darker skin tones as well!
- On cam I go heavy with contouring and highlighting. You can put A LOT on before you look like a clown. Especially when you use a lot of lights.
- Same goes for overlining your lips. And eyeliner :)

Found the perfect lockdown lashes solution - lolas magnetic lashes! You can get them in uk but theres probably a good alt in usa. Just bought my 2nd set (diamond) and love them.
For gel nails i haven't found a brand that beats bluesky. I bought a set with a lamp on amazon acouple of years ago and it's been a lifesaver though this lockdown.
I went back to using my st tropez self tan and herbatint hair dye as well and it's honestly not bad. I might stick with all this and save myself a bunch of money. The only thing I'm really missing is botox!
