My club is going downhill because management keeps hiring/won't fire old, nasty, ratchet bitches who literally scare the customers off. A customer told me yesterday that aside from me and one of the other girls I'm friendly with, the girls aren't that good looking. The club has resorted to hiring average girls just for their house fees and tips, but they are so short -sighted, they can't see how this is hurting business overall. Then some of these girls take the biz OTC, give the customers STDs, etc. And they ruin it for everyone.
I'm going to try and change clubs and in the meantime, work on my creative projects.
This is in southern CA. It was never as good as say TX or Vegas, but at least I could make a solid living. Not anymore...

If you are a good dancer, the decline of strip clubs will not hurt your numbers. If anything it's a good time to look at ourselves and see what we can do to improve our game. It's easy to focus on the outside but the inside is where the magic happens. As long as you take care of the inside none of this matters.
Strongly agree with this.

i remember back in the day knowing a few older ladies who worked at Captain Cream's (i say older ladies cuz i was in high school so anyone over 22 was an "older lady") and they made me want to be strippers cuz they were so glamorous and had big nice houses in orange county. i wasn't dancing yet then but i can tell it's changed a lot! even though that same owner still owns the most successful club in the area, the type of clientele they cater to now seems waaay different. and not in a good way.

As I’ve gotten older, I don’t stress because I’m a good hustler. Guys expect more for less-even the price of lap dance has never adjusted for inflation. I think out of desperation more girls are showing up and willing to do more for less. I’m just trying to milk this cow for as long as I can. As soon as I’m expected to do extras, I’m out!

If you're not in a state flooded with illegal immigrants in the club, then you're better off. A state I work in regularly is flooded with illegal Brazilians. They are willing to have sex for 3 lap dances. Meaning the dancer makes $60 minus $10 to the house for sex. And most of these ladies are beautiful. Haiir, nails done, extensions, eyelash extensions, perfect makeup, great outfits, boobs and asses done, lipo, daily gym visits. it's a non sex stripper's nightmare!

This is some racist bullshit. If the club is allowing open extras don't work there.

Blame the management for allowing these things to go on. Cause as long as they allow girls to do extras, extras will go on regardless if its local girls, Russian hustlers or drop dead gorgeous Brazilians.

I didn't think it was racist. It's true. If a girl doesn't speak English and the money is to be made in VIP rooms, how is she gonna hustle?
I've seen some shit go down for petty change. I also heard a girl offer really really low cheap sex in vip. Those girls got fired. For that, my club no longer hires girls who don't speak English. Thank goodness.

Theres plenty of native english speaking girls who are dumb as rocks and can barely put together a coherent sentence together .. How do they hustle?
Honestly these comments are pretty BS. Living in an english speaking part of a bilingual country means that a good part of my coworkers are primarily french speakers and they do just fine, if not better than the rest of us. There's also a huge number of people who speak other languages because the club in a microcosm of Toronto, a very multicultural city. Believe it or not, most customers top priority usually isn't our wit and banter.

Thanks! It wasn't racist. But you and I have been in the biz for awhile and we get what's going on in some states. SniffleUffleGrass doesn't like me.So she wants to hit below the belt without a reason.

No respectable strip bar allows enough extras to where the extras girls are looking perfectly immaculate AND "doing extras for $50"....ffs.

^^^^ whoever said these clubs are respectable??? Anyone who has worked in the northeast for a while must know what I'm talking about. Otherwise, they're baby strippers. Or, have only worked in one club or two. This is the norm now in many states in the NE.

If that's true you might want to re-consider where you work. Just a hunch....

You're referring to a different country. You really can't compare the two. And you always mention that you are relatively new to this business. I completely agree with Vyanks.

Nyla19 for your own good re-consider what you put on the Internet.
I'm sorry if I triggered you but I honestly think you get a kick out of starting drama over nothing. Remember we have friends in common.....

I have been dancing for *a while.* Before the recession we ALL made money, but we did
DANCES
That’s all we did. If these men can all get the same thing from every dancer and nothing more than that thing, they will still buy the thing. If we ALL do not supply extras, then no extras can be consumed. We can all make money still, we did it before.

^^^^Right! Unfortunately, the clubs are full of desperate women. They along with management have helped to make money making for us "Old School" dancers incredibly difficult.

I was at Flashdancers NYC about a week ago. There was a woman next to me, also a new hire, who could hardly speak English. She had her Japanese passport as proof of id during new hire orientation. The management had her scroll through the contract. Of course, she wasn't proficient enough in the English language to actually read the contract, so they had her scroll through and initial it and scribble her final signature and off she went to work. She said she was forty years old. Not that its a requirement to be proficient in English, whether you are trying to be a legal resident alien in the US or you are born here, but still... that is what we are competing with.
There many more clubs in Southern CA that didn't require proof of verification of being legally able to work in the US. There was one club in particular that had a lot of big spenders due to where it was located, but plenty of illegals that would do all sorts of stuff that no one should have to compete with if their job title is "stripper." One of the owners of that club actually approached me and tried to demonstrate to me how I should rub myself all over customers in order to try to get them to get a dance with me or vip, as if giving them a freebie should be a way to leer them in to spend more money. Not my style.
I'm certainly not the pick of the litter, so maybe I, too, am guilty of bringing the caliber of some of the places I've worked down as well. I also wonder if I'm hired sometimes, not because I'm hot enough to be there, but so that I could be an extra body to collect a house fee and tip out of.
I feel that dancing is still very good money compared to a lot of jobs, especially if you don't have marketable skills. As long as you steer clear of being pimped out too much, it's good money. Then again, during Courtney Love's time of bringing 200-300/night, that 200-300 is not the same money nowadays as it once was with increased gentrification of everywhere and inflation.
Supposedly, the 90s was the high-money making era for everyone in the industry.

Time has changed.
Men today aren't willing pay for something they can't have. That's how they generally feel about strippers/clubs. Really, most men already had sex, girlfriends, and baby mama drama. Women, today, are just giving it away easily.
"What's the reason to pay for a woman when I'm getting sex for free?"
Plus, with so much free pornographic content on the Internet and the rising cost-of-living and expenses, we, strippers, are feeling the pinch. The middle-class is disappearing. Generally, our industry is catered for older white males and those dateless-wonder virgin men. But now, they're becoming the minority in the strip club scene.
Men come in to strip clubs for personal, live interaction, and emotional company from a beautiful woman because they don't get it anywhere else. If men are asking you why they should pay you, you're doing it wrong. Most of the job is emotional labor.

This exactly! And the stock market tanking this week won't be good for business either. Focus on what you can make now. But all dancers need to have another career or other skills. So they have something to fall back on. Just do the best you can. Try and save as much as you can. Invest, get an education and have a bit of fun with the money you make in the clubs too. That's also important.

???????????
That’s exactly why they pay for it????? Because paying for it is the key to having it????

Men LOVE what they can’t have, the chase is their holy grail. My best customers are married. So that makes no difference, if anything a bad relationship drives them into the clubs.

Mine has gone to absolute shit. Part of the reason that I haven't posted in so long is because I stopped working. I ended up starting a degree at the local CC and lived off grant money and student loans, along with that I made off of a regular once a month. Dancing just wasn't worth the time and the income steadily declined. My regular is currently AWOL and I refuse to chase him.
I just got a full ride scholarship to a major university and it includes money for living expenses and transportation. In August, I'll be working only to build savings, for extra cash or just to get out of the house. In January, I'll have an internship that pays more that stripping does. When I'm done with my degree, the jobs I'll qualify for have 6 figure starting salaries. That can't come soon enough.
My exit from dancing is eminent.
There are two main issues with clubs in the area: The girls and the customers. My club does hire anybody who walks in the door, so we have this revolving cast of dancers who don't have the looks or skills to do well with dancing, but will pay house and mandatory minimum tip for the opportunity to fail. They either leave or start the extras quickly. We also have the grizzled veterans who can't compete with the younger, hotter hustlers that occasionally do show up. Girls who were above board a year ago are now doing extras too. The rest of us have another means of income. Stripping just isn't enough to be an only job anymore. We're trying to deal with the extras girls but they outnumber us 3 to 1 on most shifts. I have quite a few of them terrified, but it doesn't really stop them. The Back Page shutdown is only making it worse.
The customers have declined too. Young thug ballers who "don't pay for it" are the vast majority. Some speak enough English get a dance, but mysteriously don't understand the word no. It's gotten to a point that I've just stopped hustling customers that I suspect will do this as I'm tired of having to hit them or stomp on their nuts to get them to stop trying to pull my thong off during a floor dance. Or donkey kick them for grabbing me at the tip rail. I had to physically stop customers from assaulting me twice last night. A guy tried to choke me a few months ago and other customers stopped it after I kicked over a table to get someone's attention. Management just watched. I took a swing at the manager afterward and I thought one of the regulars was going to also. It's bad.
The spenders who don't want extras show up, see a sea of bottom of the barrel talent and leave. Occasionally, I can get to them before that happens but they're usually gone after one of the resident junkies turns them off completely. Cutthroating has gotten really bad and I have a long list of "one more time and I'll make it look like an accident" dancers who will literally push other dancers out of the way to swipe a customer. I've ripped out some extensions...
It's sad. It's SO sad. And it's just going to get sadder.

But are they willing to pay? Or how long they'll keep paying?
At some point, when they pay a little, they expect things in return. Like the poster above me said that young-thug-baller-types are the vast majority of her club, guest what they're the majority of the clubs over here. All of them have that "I-don't-pay-for-dances" mentality.
