I am very inspired by this thread however I do have a different experience when it comes to this.

I have been in this industry since 2012 mainly camming but also making videos and phone sex.
I am a single mom of two and I have some autoimmune issues which make it very hard for me to work 40 hours a week
I would say on a good day i can work 4 to 5 hours consecutively.
When i total my average earnings for the month on a good month I average about $1400 which i know is NOTHING compared to most girls here. I am one of those living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to make ends meet in this industry. I am doing everything on my part to better my content and my cam shows yet my average earning always stays the same between 40-60 dollars a day on a good day. I pay about $1500 in rent and bills so my expenses are exceeding my income at this time. In order for me to pay everything I have to work every single day with 0 days off. I am burnt out and exhausted to say the least. My financial stress makes me even more sick. But I am responsible for supporting my family all alone so I do this every single day, wake up and do it again. I would love to be able to save money and create an emergency fund but I don't see how. This is just my experience and it has been this way for years. I can't be the only one.

How can girls like me struggling very much to make a living in this industry ever save money or budget properly if we are not making enough to begin with.

Basically if you have reach your maximum earnings you need to create additional income. the whole lowering your expenses can only go so far where you just need more income coming in from different sources. and not all in the same industry.

out of curiosity I applied on rev.com to be a transcriber I got hired but the job is hard on me for the level of concentration on listening so you can write out the exact words they say so it can be submitted so you are paid for the job. pays weekly they pay you for the training as well. if I can figure out how to have a quiet room i might keep doing it as it does challenge me. but if it frustrates me too much I won't keep doing it.

There are plenty of things to do online it's just a matter of finding which ones you like to do and will stick with it. majority of how i make money over the years has always been at home. last time i left the house for a job was 2008. and at this point with the opportunities I am finding its a life time of working from home.

I can relate to the physical difficulties. I have days where I just simply can not work due to illness, and I battle several chronic issues on and off.

I didn't really start to bring in enough money until I learned to splitcam and gradually bought better and better equipment where I can stream 3 live sites and have several private-only no-free-chat sites running at the same time (skyprivate and other skype based sites plus Niteflirt). When you have physical issues and limited time to cam your hourly money that comes in is super important to maximize.

Also be sure you're charging a good rate (at least $3.99 to 7.99). When your rates are too low you can not really splitcam that much because they wear you out with their frequent short sessions, but I found when I raised my price even though I was in free chat longer, I made more from each session and was able to just pause the other free chat sites while I did a show on another. It's worked out really well once I learned to juggle them all.

I had to learn the hard way before I got into camming about saving money. When I was a stripper for 15 years or so I always made good $$$ but sadly that also came with my impulse retail therapy alongside rent, car insurance, groceries, gas, traveling trips. It came to a point where I hated the state I lived in (which caused major depression for me), my car was literally about to die (engine was done) that I had ZERO money saved & also was getting tired of dancing itself but I had no emergency funds whatsoever which really sucked.

Anyways, I now have more money saved thankfully than I've ever had even with dancing but that's bc I learned to live like I am poor & became VERY resourceful. I'm obsessed with Madonna & loved her money saving tactics she had before she was famous ,which I applied to my own life. Things I learned to do to save $$$ was to find extremely cheap rent(roommates don't bother me that much), I never buy expensive makeup, skincare or hair care. I always go to Sephora & load up on free samples on everything I love there. I'll only spend $$ on what I need such as hair color which I only use cheaper brands that are just as good, drugstore makeup which are complete dupes of the expensive stuff, and I reuse other things when I can. I also don't buy anything unless I must such as car repairs, food, etc.

If I do spoil myself on stuff, it's a rare thing & it must be something I want as well as need right then. I take handouts if offered & I also do those restaurant surveys for free food when I can which saves big $$$.

Yes some may see me as a complete cheapskate LOL but I honestly don't care! Seeing my bank account rising with every payout from my sites gives me power. Right now I'm able to save more due to my current living situation thankfully.

I can now move where I want when I want without limitations.

Save & live like a pauper for a couple years & you will have something to show for I promise :)

Oh yes! Btw don't be silly & have car payments if you can. That right there was always my big no no bc it came with full coverage insurance which is waaaay too expensive for a monthly thing. Everything I own is mine & paid for :)

Im such a basic bitch . I use movie maker and my logitech c920 for clip making.Later on im hoping to update my equipment for video making.Right now since camming is my main income im not to worried about super high quality for clips. These guys are hella spoiled, any clips priced 15.99 or higher is too expensive.IF they want cheaper clips their gonna get basic clip quality lol.

Preach girl <3 I'm with you 100%, if these guys think I'm gonna use my high end makeup on cam for them, they're nuts LOL I LOVE being a cheapskate actually haha ,I walk in Sephora like I own the damn place asking for samples galore & they actually last me awhile :) Also for perfumes same deal, I just can't fathom spending hundreds on fancy perfume to only litter my small space when I'm tired of using it.

It honestly takes awhile to get used to living so cheaply but I'm now used to it & have a nice little cushion in my bank as a result of it :)

Sooo yeah is that still even legitimately possible in 2018 and beyond?
I know many girls in the industry have become millionaires from sex work, both from the camming side and from the content making side of things.
This question sparked for two reasons. One, seeing a fellow content maker get a tribute of 1.3 million dollars only last week. She also mentioned this was not her first million from this career. Pretty impressive and it did shock me because I really did not think that was possible nowadays.

The second thing is the owner of Many vids was tweeting a few days ago saying how it's a 97 billion dollar industry and how SW's will be the future millionaires. I again struggled to see how that is possible. Yes, we are in a BIG money industry but a lot of that lies within Pornhub. We have to compete with free porn tube sites constantly and then we are in an oversaturated and highly competitive market, to which we then have to compete with each other. Narrowed down and spread out, us being future millionaires seems like a pipe dream.

What's your thoughts, is this a pipe dream that is no longer within reach?
If you believe it's very much within reach for us, do you believe the hard work we put in is the SAME hard work as you could put into anything else to become a millionaire or do you think as SW's and the competition means, we will have to work harder than any other industry to get there?

(When I say million, of course, many of us will make a million within our careers as a lifetime. I mean million as in perhaps $500k-$1 mill a year income)

I highly suggest you read "The Millionaire Next Door" by Thomas Stanley :) A millionaire mindset is much more about WHAT you do with your money, and how you utilize it / live under your means, rather than making millions+ each year. One of the most interesting points I found in the book was that millionaires net worth isn't in their income, it's in their investing and smart utilization of their dollars, using the money they have make more money for them.

*EDIT* I believe that making 300k - 500k a year is feasible for women/men in the sex indstury who are the best, most amazing / most established in their niche / have a huge fanbase. BUT you do not need to make 500k a year to become a true millionaire in your lifetime, if you are smart with money :)

It's not even about the job you are doing to make you a millionaire.

Is what are you doing with your money.

This topic has come up already.

and then I started documenting my debt free journey on my youtube channel.

estimate my low income I can be debt free in 1 year and 4 months. I didn't factor my income is USD to CAD which means I park my ass on webcam I can have the debt free scream a lot sooner then I think.

and it does not include my other income stream potential, but I look at my budget daily with higher income and my expenses are low as can be I can litterally have all the money I want and I will probably die before I use it all.

Bumping this cause it's gold! I *finally* got un top of my savings this year - granted I am making a lot more and working a lot more but have basically been putting away 50% of everything that hits my account. It took me a shameful amount of time to do this but I honestly think, in my case, it was just a maturity thing. I do invest, but I am only putting in small amounts until I have my own house. I bought myself some gym equipment and I order takeaway once per week, but honestly that's it for indulgences! When I have £100k plus saved, then I'll start treating myself here and there.

Uhg, good thread!
Personally, I managed to save a lot in 2020, but then I had some good opportunity to buy a land, in a very good area, to build a house and I spent all of my savings. Wich is not a bad thing, I just feel weird to see my bank account almost empty, especially since The last 3 months have been depressing :)))
What I got left to pay:
- Apartament loan (about $50k left- hoping to get done with it in 2-3 years).
- Car lease (about $15k left, hoping to get done with it in 1-2 years)

I averaged somehwere at $40k/ year from camming, so far, wich didn't let me do more amazing stuff, but I didn't really hustle and struggle too much either. Planning to start and put more sweat into this, because i really wanna make $200k a year, like some top models do.
I finally wanna live rich and save a lot too. I can't tell I didn't live good, but I still look at a 5 stars resort in an exotic place and think that $15k in a week is a shit ton of money. Or, traveling at business class is untouchable to me. This kind of rich I wanna get.
I am not into designer stuff, or expensive stuff, but I like to pay a hot ton of money for my comfort (living in a big 5 bedroom apartament, in an expensive and secure area, drive a nice car - i have a nice car, but i want nicer-, travel at business class, affording whatever hotel I want in vacation instead of sorting by price, etc).
And, the most important, see that fucking 7 figure savings in my bank account (ok, I am dreaming for 8 figure but hey... ).

You are doing absolutely amazingly. So cool that you had your own place built!! I've never had a big holiday. I only learnt to drive recently so was happy with a very simple car but now I'm better at driving, I'd like to upgrade. Something I can afford outright though when I do. Although I used to not have money, my debt has always been low and I'd like to keep it as low as possible. Having said that, that won't be possible when I buy a house (later this year is the plan). I can imagine it's a shock to see your accounts looking empty after buying property. I'm nervous about that feeling! But it'll be worth it.

Sorry girls! This is such a personal question and I respect not many will want to answer. But here goes.
I also posted this on the other cam girl forum (just to gain wider perspective)

Basically, after knowing many models within the industry and lurking on forums for years and obviously been doing this a long time myself. I seem to hear a lot of models that either have no savings/home owners/anything of value after years at working in this industry.
I also hear so many models living paycheck to paycheck.

I can't understand why and to be honest find it frightening. I'm also one of those girls, which I always made excuses as to why I don't have any of that stuff sitting behind me after years of plugging away at this.
It's such a good paying job whether you are camming or clip making or indie, it's way more per hour than any vanilla job out there.

So I guess I am looking for inspiration, have you managed to build up 'stability' or value within your life financially from this career choice? How long did it take you?
I know we have perks with the job but ultimately we all work for the money.
And also why do you think this industry is lacking wealthy women? (The percentage of those seem very small in comparison to how many models out there)

I've posted my debt free journey I got serious about in 2017. now I have my emergency fund and I am investing.

I've added in a high ticket affiliate marketing product while I webcam so that will come in and I can reach my investment goals faster. living with MS and my bipolar took a toll on me but I got over the loss of time and mourn the old me.

Now I am setting myself up to invest and save and stay out of debt. I might buy a house might not. but for me the big thing is making sure I have money for retirement. Even if I can still make money when I am older as I've seen this wonderful internet marketing couple do it they are past age 60 I still want to make sure my time as a cam model is worth it.

In my journey of taking care of myself financially I Realized it was old messages from society they think we don't have value so we don't save the money we make. I had to break that old message hard to get to the place I am at now.

So glad I did and did before the pandemic started and I am doing better right now then my friend who has a job outside of the house that just let her go until further notice.

Oh, you got it wrong :)) I just bought the land, didn't build anything there. I live in an apartament, also mine, but still paying the loan, haha :)))

I love this thread, it's mega inspiring.

I cleared off all my debt last year within about 4 months and started building my emergency fund, then I ended up off sick not long after for the best part of 2 months and I didn't have enough emergency savings to cover me for the entire time. What I did have helped massively!! But I ended up using my credit cards again. I'm not left with anything near to the extent of the debt I had before though.

This year I'm prioritising saving and I'm paying off credit cards in the background. Following that, I'm going to stack as much money as physically possible to invest elsewhere for the future. Hopefully I'll have something exciting to add to this thread in a years time or so!
