The movie looks so fucking stupid, I cringe when it's mentioned on tv or the internet. JLO looks great for her age but the one word that comes to mind whenever I think of her is, OVERRATED. And same with her real or fake for their image bf, Alex Rodriguez, he usually dates only blondes...

I wonder if she did the movie for AROD, he definitely likes strippers from what I heard from dancers that danced for him.

I am going to see it tomorrow. Will report back. I have an ex dancer friend who said it was good.

I saw it today....

It was entertaining with funny moments but it wasnt the best movie I’ve seen this year by a long shot. I actually don’t think it will make a lot of new women want to come dance because it quickly went from being a movie about dancers making money at the club to instead being about dancers who couldn’t make money after the economy crashed and resorted to drugging random men in bars. It was less about strippers working at a club than I thought from the ad despite how much of the movie takes place in one.

It does annoy me that it absolutely promotes the stereotype of dancers doing extras and being thieves. Men who see this movie most likely will not want to go to a strip club anytime soon afterwards and will trust us even less.

Arod, seems to be really into Jlo tho? Sounds like he snatched his all time celeb crush. https://www.instagram.com/p/ByUFOCpgpwW/

Not sure an insecurity was the intention for the film. Jlo looks very strippery in most of her music videos. She just seemed fitting to play a stripper in her mid 30s, like Samantha at that time.

A great example of LOA, or visioning.
If anyone is interested in watching jlo practice pole dancing to prepare for the movie. It's on her YouTube channel.
Her trainer has an out of this world body. A bit too masculine for me, but still to be admired.

Funny you mention. She was a big fan of Louis Hay too.

I saw it today and it was entertaining. I went with two people who have danced before and honestly I suspect the entire theatre may have worked in a club...at some point. Not a long stretch for Florida. When Lizzo came on screen the entire theatre started talking and groaning!!! Like "Oh Hell NAW!". That's why I think there were alot of dancers there. They know a girl her size is not gonna get a job in an upscale club in NYC.

Other than that I liked it. It gave me Ocean 11 type vibes. To be honest I don't see many men going to see this movie. I think this is a girls night out sorta film.

Really?
Funny you should mention Louise Hay.
I got an email from Hay House on Friday, giving me a free audio lecture of Louise's.
Even from the beyond she's influencing lives.
When I met her, I immediately said, " You've changed my life."
She replied sternly, " You changed your own life.":O

While I can't stand Cardi B, and am usually very skeptical of movies like this, I like the idea that the women aren't docile little playthings or 'supporting actresses'.

I bet there's going to be some funny parts too, if they do even a half ass job of portraying some of the weird shit that goes on. :D

I didn't expect this to be a quality movie, but it has 90% on Rotten Tomatoes... has anyone actually seen it yet?

I saw a couple of J.Lo interviews where she talks about how pole dancing is extremely hard, and that the film is a bit of a political commentary.

Not gonna lie, I usually hate this shit but I'm curious. :)

Not to throw shade but those reviews were made by a ton of 1 posters. There is a lot of money in ensuring a strong opening through strong word of mouth. Once people get wind of what the movie really is, it will fall off...dramatically. I mean some are saying J Lo deserves and Oscar. Pure nutty hypefest.

I like J Lo and have seen a few of her movies, but I won't be going to this one.

To me, a hustler is a dancer who is able to SELL customers on their experience with her. They willingly give her their money, she doesn't have to steal it.

I danced for twenty years (and have successfully transitioned into a vanilla job) but in that time, I never stole from a customer or another dancer.

I'm afraid that mainstream people will view dancers as thieves.

I know it's Hollywood and casting depends on box office draws, but I see these actors as wanna-be strippers safely living out their fantasy of stripper life without experiencing the stigma or rejection we constantly face.

JLO is looking great and she has shaved about 6 years off her real age which makes her look even better. I didn't know about AROD crushing on her but I definitely believe it. And I don't think she's insecure in the slightest. I just thought maybe it was his fantasy to see his chick as a stripper. I have to look at the instagram photo you posted. He's still a wuss to me, being a Yankees and Derek Jeter fan but to each is own and what does my opinion matter. lol! She's definitely a man-eater and why not??!!

This movie has been blamed for slowness in the clubs. Ya'll agree or no?

I already voided the discussion of that movie 2 times with clientele. Eh. Why be a kill joy...

No, I don't think a movie with J Loe can affect the business.

I had a customer say he saw it and enjoyed it but was also like "Woahhh they robbed those guys blind!"

He is still coming in and spending money, so at least one guy was able to separate Hollywood from real life.

I'm curious but I'm going to wait until it comes out on disc so I can catch it on TV or rent the DVD instead.

Cardi B has influenced some wannabe strippers... you know the young clueless ones who think stripping (and other sex work) is all rainbows and sunshine, glamour and easy money, but then quit within the first week after they come to face reality. But I don't think this movie will add any more of that mentality than there already is.

About the trailer with Lizzo. I've never seen a truly obese dancer either. Even at the most run down dives I've been at. I've seen "skinny fat" (like 5'5, 120 pound girls with some belly flab) and overweight but with plus-size model bodies that are bigger T&A than belly (think Angelina Castro or Elly Mayday), but not completely out of shape.

I saw it today. I thought it was good, but I had trouble getting past the fact that the lady on the screen was a stripper hustling men, and not JLo.

Men too busy making money don't have time to watch the movie and to care much. Maybe they just bought this up as an icebreaker to have a discussion with you. They're going to spend their money on women, whatever makes them feel less lonely or feel alive anyway. You know one of the "victims" repeatly visited the club and spend his money there.

The thing the film could have mentioned is that those men probably asked those girls for drugs.
Rich guys like that were always asking for drugs. and they were the ones who paid for the drugs.
They wanted to get annihilated.
And they asked the strippers to help.

I've had guys ask me if we were going to drug and rob them, I just fucking laughed and said, "you saw that fucking movie didn't you?" Like it's an extreme example of a stupid story, it's not really real. Oh and don't drug me either, lmao

I would believe it somewhat, but not the full reason, it's a lot of factors, one being everything suddenly costing more and people are stressed about holidays. We may just half skip xmas this year, the kids literally already have everything anyways. Change it up so it's not all get get get

As somebody that did rush to see it it was so-so. Like everyone else said...not realistic. I do like some of the issues they touched on like how hard it is to go back to minimum wage after making on average a couple hundred a night. Nice soundtrack to boot. Sent me back to my childhood a little bit. Lol.

The only person who asked me about it had 0 intention of spending money anyhow. It actually is realistic for Manhattan strip clubs.

Welp it looks like JLo is getting sued...

Jennifer Lopez’s production company is being sued for $40 million dollars by the real-life stripper who inspired the actress’ character Ramona in “Hustlers.”

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Samatha Barbash has filed a federal lawsuit against Jennifer Lopez’s production company Nuyorican Productions, STX Entertainment, Gloria Sanchez Productions, and Pole Sisters LLC.

I can't say that I'm surprised. Full article is here....Jennifer Lopez Sued For $40 Million By Stripper Who Inspired 'Hustlers' (https://theblast.com/c/jennifer-lopez-sued-40-million-hustlers-real-life-stripper-Samatha-Barbash-drug-scene-lawsuit-court-golden-globes-alex-rodriguez)

1) She has a right to sue. 2) Due to her reported personality, Samantha Barbash was going to do that anyways lol.

In NY, there is a law that prohibits criminals from profiting from their own stories. If the lady was convicted and lives in nyc, this law may apply.

From a sw/stripper point of view though, yes, she has the right to sue. Hollywood steals too much of sw stories and/or takes immense liberties with how sex workers are portrayed, almost always to the detriment of the sw. Ironically enough, most of the actresses playing the sw come from extremely privileged backgrounds, no matter how much they want to downplay it. Yet they are put in roles where they are essentially stealing the story of someone who really needs the money and should be making the money off of their own story.
